Contact List File - P3600 ROM Development

Hi
Does anybody know where the contact lists are kept? I want to be able to copy and store the contact list into my SD card, so whenever i want to do a hard reset i don't have to sync back to outlook and can instead just copy the list back into the phone.
Read something about PIM.VOL as one of the likely places but i can't find the file in Mun's Indigo Lite....
Same thing for 'tasks' as well.
Thanks

Its called PIM.VOL in the root directory, I use a program called PIMBackup it does the job for me.

Thanks taiseer,
Works like a charm... though haven't tried restoring the back-up file yet... but i'm sure it'll work.
Thanks again

Moving PIM from WM5 to WM6?

This should be easy to search for.. and yes I did find the PIM Backup thread.. and yes I wish I had used it...
Note: I do NOT have Outlook sync as an option.. so I need/needed a way to do this without going via a PC.
So I tried 2 methods:
a) Database backup with Sprite Backup
b) copied pim.vol to my Storage Card
What I'm finding post-WM6-upgrade is that I can read my PIM data.. but I cannot create new PIM data (appts, contacts).
Do I have any practical way to recover (short of flashing back to WM5 and using PIM Backup?)
Thanks,
Mike
Confused.
AFAI understand, you seems to have backed up with Sprite Backup and copied the pim.vol. And you have flashed into WM6, now unable to get these info back.
If so, you may want to try the WM5 emulator (from M$) for the PC.
Try PIM-Backup??
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=299705
works a treat.

Aye, I found PIMBackup... but does it do me any good in my current state... or do I need to go back to WM5 1st.. PIMBackup, then back to WM6?
Thanks!
Mike
Have you already flashed WM6 then i take it?

Yep. Held out all this time, watching the ROMs and finally thought it was worth the plunge.
Mike
The best thing you could do is start using exchange. Your PIM data is right there, all you do is sync once youve flashed and your contacts/calendar etc... is back on the device.
DeniaL's service is good, a $10 donation isnt much to ask for a good service especially with exchange 2007 (so you get HTML mail in WM6). Youl get push email aswell, if somebody emails you at (for example) [email protected] it instantly arrives at your device.
I do not want my personal PIM mixed into my work environment (which is my only PC). So I am mostly self-contained on the Hermes. Perhaps DeniaL's service would help me work around that... its a little beyond my knowledge scope (unix guy)
I use my work PC to install apps, and move things on/off the storage card. Not as convenient as it could be, but hopefully makes a little (if wacky) sense.
For the WM5 downgrade, I have the link to the "WM5 Downgrade guide v2".. could I cheat the steps by using ROM #3 from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=302092 (since I was Cingular before, tho a slightly older version)?
Thanks,
Mike
I've been playing with PIMBackup... what I've found so far...
I can rename the WM6 compatible pim.vol to temp name and copy in my old pim.vol
PIMBackup will extract and save off the Appts and Tasks. I can see them with Verbose. It does not seem to be able to read the Contacts.
The WM6 contacts program also barfs.
PI2007 is able to read the contacts, but doesn't seem to have any way to backup/export.
Back to some more fiddling...

pim.vol create/repair/restore/extract on desktop

Please post all utilites for handling/copying/extracting/repairing/
restoring/upgrading etc for pim.vol
I have backed up a pim.vol and changed my device with same OS WM 5.0 however when the pim.vol is restored the contacts do not appear.
1)Is there any software to read pim.vol and extract it in txt,csv file.
2)Is there any software to rewrite pim.vol to fit in newer roms.
3)Is there any software to upgrade or repair pim.vol files.
4)Is there any way to add data from pim.vol to Outlook .
5)I have two pim.vol files both of different devices but WM5,
Is their way to interchange data between them so that each other device
has data of the other device. (One is empty in my case)
Thank You

Same problem
I have a similar problem. I would like to fix a failing pim.vol. If I put it on my device I get "no service" on the phone and can't access my calendar or contacts.
I found a perl script that parses pim.vol for contacts, but it only extracted about 20 out of over 100.
I have exactly the same problem as drkosse except that my contact list is around 4000 and I just updated like 5% of it last week without sync. So I really need it back up. Any tools to fix it?
Hey,
I am also urgently needing some application to read or extract my contacts from a pim.vol.
Any suggestions>?
I thought there is an answer for this...
I would also be highly interested in something that could do that.
yes im having the same problem! i went froma moto Q to HTC Mogul 6.1
i copied the pim file from the storage card after renaming the first one.
the soft reset. then clicked contacts and it just shuts out!
im not sure what to do now. i need those numbers!
lol
I had the same problem, flashed my Omnia with a new rom, forgotten to extract all contacts appointments etcpp, so had searched for a tool to extract the information from the pim.vol (which i saved wisly before)
had found this:
http://www.phatware.com/index.php?q=product/details/dbexplorer
looks like it works, doing now an extract of the data and restore into the systems pim.vol (else it won't work, the pim.vol's are incompatible through different roms ): )
I also really do need a tool for repairing my pim.vol DB. Isn't there any solution available yet? Calendar and Contacts won't start anymore, also I get shown thet there is no Service available, if I use my broken pim.vol. If I rename it and it gots replaced with a newone, everthing is working fine again, but all my data is lost, of course. Also DBExplorer isn't working for me, it says that file is no valid database or broken. :-( Can anyone help me pleaze! Greetz, BKC

Importing CSV contacts directly into Windows Mobile device

I'm trying to find a free solution to synchronize my Google Apps contacts with my HTC Touch. I have decided to export my Google Apps contacts into a CSV file and import them directly into my Windows Mobile wirelessly using the data plan...
Is there any software that will let me import my Google Apps contacts directly to my Windows Mobile address book?
I needed to do something similar and found this web page: http://manish.wordpress.com/2008/11/14/importing-contacts-to-windows-mobile-without-ms-outlook/
So here you rename your CSV file to whatever.CSC, zip the file and rename the zip to whatever.PIB.
Then you can use the PIMBackup software to import the contacts.
I've done this just now while I typed this message and it worked.
I didn't need to zip * rename to PIB, I simply imported the CSC file.
The reply is a bit late, but maybe it will help someone, I certainly found this thread.
Well I think now you can just do it directly from google. m.google.com/sync
yeah but google sync works spuriously and will delete all contacts when the server is deleted so it is not good for a reliable 2 way backup. A .csv import tool is still needed.
i cant do the same with messages, it pimbackup always assumes the csv is contacts, any solution anyone?
fixed that, now pimbackup wont accept teh format
Importing the easy way!!
@ amahfouz
Try and get the CSV imported to your Outlook contacts and then just sync your phone with your PC. This should be the easiest solution I can think of!!
I had the same problem and didnt find a good solution, so i wrote an app for importing contacts from a google csv, havent tested it with other csv-files.
Works good for me.
If you have contacts on your phone already you should back them up using PIMBackup or som other app before using this app.
There might be errors in the csv-file and if there are the contacts will be created with errors like phonenumber in the name-field and so on.
How to use it, your three step guide to a better life:
1. click on "Choose file" and select the file you want to import
2. click the "Read contacts" and it will load all rows into memory and display how many rows it found
3. click "Import contacts" and it will create a contact for each row it found
if something went wrong and the contacts look wierd or something, just clik on the "Clear contacts" button, click yes when asked if you want to delete all contacts, and it will remove all contacts. Note that it deletes ALL contacts, not just the ones it just created, so if you had contact before importing these you should have made a backup like i told you to do, because now you haveto delete every contact manually.
ofcourse you use this app at your own risk, i dont take any responsabilities to what might happend to your phone, not that i think something will.
Its just reading a file and creating/deleting contacts.
Hope it helps someone...
im gunna give this a try, sounds like it will do the trick

(works perfectly )
Do you run this application on your phone or PC?
Worked a treat, Cheers
Very useful thread! Thanks a lot!
Thanks guys! This saved my skin!

Ughhhhh the SMS counter

Is there any way for the SMS counter to go back to 0 when viewing several messages from one sender? Other wise I have to keep going back and opening for the counter to tick down.
On my 6800 I upgraded to the last DCD rom and it did the same. Only for that reason did I go back to his previous rom. This drives me nuts. The worst part is I recieved 15 angry texts from my ex wife. Who the heck wants to open that up 15 times for it to clear?
just go to the threaded messages & use the arrow keys to go select each & every one of them & it'll set the counter right. hope that makes sense.
I found a better fix. This adds "Mark all messages read"
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=379265
Is there still not a cab/real fix for this? I know that it is a problem with the version of WM that it shipped with but this is kind of ridiculous and Sprint/Whoever can't expect us to deal with this or install a cab that "makes it easier"
All other version of WM that i've ever used have never had this problem before and it is quite annoying if you stay in a text message for a while and then go out and have to click through 100 messages... Yes I've already installed the cab that adds "Mark all as read" but its still annoying.
Cheers

Download install that DLL into your windows and your all set. This is a well known issue with the DLL not letting go of the message properly. Fix thanks to Yay4juggs

Downloaded and copied over to /Windows folder.
Works great!
Thanks a bunch for linking the file and thank you to Yay4juggs for fixing this.
One less thing about the TP2 that is annoying... Damn you stock sprint manilla icons and inability to use the FM radio yet!
Cheers
htmlnote.dll
My TP2 says it cannot copy over the file.

try using total commander to copy over.
For those that backup on a regular using sprite etc u have to add "htmlnote.dll" & "HTMLNOTE.DLL" to the exclude list other wise the backup will fail.

I'm using Sprite Backup 6.5 and it works just fine without adding it to the exclusion list.
can someone please tell me what i need and what to do to install this!
I have this problem almost everytime I get a text. Its sooooo annoying!!
come on, all I need to do is install it. I copy it over to my tp2 and it doesn't show up. I installed total commander like someone said but all that did was let me see it. It has an error when I click on it.
You need to move the file and replace the old one, not try to open it. Try deleting the old one and then moving the new one in its place.
Delete the old what? And move it where? And once it's moved do I have to install something or does it just fix it by being there?
I'm not trying to be a jerk but if you read all the posts in this forum topic you would know what to do. I'll write out instructions for you however.
1. First, download this DLL
HTML NOTE DLL
2. Extract the file onto your desktop and then transfer it over to your phone via activesync, SD card, bluetooth, etc.
3. Wherever the file was copied to (be in in the root folder of the storage card or any other place, fire up Total Commander/Resco File Explorer and copy/move the "htmlnote.dll" over to /Windows folder. which is in the root folder of 'My Device'
*You will know that you are copying/moving it to the right location if you get a message stating that you would be overwriting the current file. If you do NOT get this message than you are either putting the modified "htmlnote.dll" in the wrong spot or your already deleted it from /Windows.
If you are still having further issues, please PM me and we will work this out.
Cheers
thank you, when I moved it over I didn't get a overwrite message but eversince I put that file in there I haven't had the problem. Slowly my phone is becoming more useable and less annoying
Thank you for the information, I have found this particular bug to be exceedingly annoying. I followed all the given instructions, but when i try to copy/move the file from my storage card, and get prompted to overwrite the existing file, Total Commander returns an error 'Cannot copy or move file!'
I had already tried this a few times, without any issue, and then soft reset my Sprint TP2. Since i still had the single unread sms bubble, i tried it again and got the error above.
Any ideas? Thanks in advance...
UPDATE:
I renamed the original to '000original' and was able to copy over the new .dll. However, after a soft reset, the problem still exists.
OK, found this thread and installed the cab. Worked like a charm...
Looks like i can't post links yet, so just search for FixUnreadCount.zip and that does the trick.
FINALLY
Thanks you for finding this .. ive spent the last week searching through files on my tp2 trying to find the right one .

Serious help needed please!!!

Hello i have need from someone who want to make me a favor and help me.
Im ex Blackstone user and i move to Android.
I did some updates etc and i lost all my contacts from the SIM card and everything.
THe good news is that i still have on my PC a PIMbackup.pib file but its made like binary one..
There is a chance to get my contacts back!!!
WHat i need is someone with WinMo device can do it for one minute.
Just to run Pimbackup on his own Device and to restore the Contacts from the .PIB file i will provide
After this is done just re Backup them again BUT in normal mode without binary etc
in this case the final .pib file will be able to transfer it to a zip .csv file and Put all the contacts back in my SIM card via Gmail
So if somene want to help me will be really thankfull for that its emergency.
The other variant if someone do not want to use HIS device is to do the same procedure with a Windows Mobile Emulator but i don`t know how to work with this and make it to work on my desktop PC i already try several hours to set up everything but just not working
Thanks in advance
Hi
Try rename pib file to zip and open with winrar.
