sorry to say, but this is a known bug and long time problem of Windows Mobile.
When syncing Office documents (Word, Excel), those docs get converted from Office (on your PC) to Pocket Office and thereby loose different features (loosing formatting, linked text, graphics etc. in Word, complex formulas, etc. in Excel).
So sad but true, this is a "normal" behaviour in Pocket Word and Pocket Excel.
It's said that this is corrected in upcoming Windows Mobile 2005 (Magneto), but as I didn't have the chance to check this until yet, I hardly believe it... :?

Ok I want to know if I can create or modify a word or Excel document in my excalibur?

uhm no you can't. its only for editing.

yes u can (as long as you wm6).. here is the link to download the program that allows you to do so:

of course you can use blank docs from your pc or use the modaco app.
the op was asking if mobile office allowed you to create docs though when obviously it does not.
we don't even know if he has mobile office or wm6 so this could all be moot.

So, the more complete answer is:
1) If you are still running WM5, then:
a) You can buy Docs2Go, which will allow you to create and edit Word/Excel docs, or...
b) You can "port" the WM6 Office Mobile apps (Word, Excel) to WM5, then...
2) If you have the WM6 Office Mobile apps running (either on WM6 or WM5), then:
a) You can use the MoDaCo app DoNew which creates new Word/Excel docs, which you can then edit with the WM6 Office apps, or...
b) You can simply create a blank Word and Excel doc on your PC and then keep them around on your Dash, and copy each time you want a new doc, or edit and use SaveAs.

When you click on the new doc, it will ask you where to save your new doc. and Word Mobile will start.In Word Mobile, you need to click on menu and choose edit, which will allows you to type in your next text.

Please read the Wiki. Official WM6 ROM release doesn't come with Office2007. There maybe hope in the Europe WWE release, but doubtful.
Microsoft is planning to offically release Office2007 this fall sometime as a free upgrade to WM6 users, so I've read. If this has changed, then correct me.

Sounds reasonable - they have to use the Windows Update Util for something after all

If you open docx and xlsx, the answer is Yes. Probably you ROm was filled with the Office Mobile 2007 appz.

Well it is standard Official DOPOD WM 6 ROM. The only thing I have installed is OneNote Mobile... From One Note App on my Lappy.

Many cooked ROMs come with Office2007. Satin does (minus OneNote, which can be installed separately).
I'm pretty impressed with O2K7. PowerPoint is particularly good. It renders presentations very well indeed, including transitions.

I was under the impression that no released version of Office 2007 Mobile has the ability to open .%%%x documents yet, and that this would be available as a downloadable update in the fall.. I read that on Jason Landridge's blog.
The version of Office 2007 Mobile that comes in the Treo 750 WM6 ROM definitely cannot open .docx, xlsx, etc.

My DOPOD ROM I looked in the WORD Mobile Settings and I see that the default template is set to .docx so I guess it does open *.%%%X files, plus I have tryed to open docx and xlsx files and no problem

Official HTC wm6 also includes Office 2007, minus outlook :-(
So you get: Powerpoint, Word and Excel.
Outlook is the old one and OneNote can be installed from pc if you have Onenote on it.

Issues saving WM6 Excel files. Please help!

I know that this is arguably in the wrong forum, but I've been posting my issue in the "General" forum for weeks without one response. Trying to get some exposure.
I'm just wondering if this is just my issue or if it's a common issue with WM5/WM6 and or the latest ActiveSync, 4.5. I'm having issues with syncing Excel files that used to sync just fine on WM2003. I have large spreadsheets that are about 325kb in size on the desktop. When I sync the file, it's the same size until I open it and try to make changes and save it. Then I get the following error:
"Unsupported content and formatting may be lost if you save this workbook..."
The only way I can save the spreadsheet is to rename it and create a new one with the same name. It then writes over the original file, taking up to 30 seconds to save. The file is then 969kbs in size (almost triple!). And every time I edit on the PC it goes back to 325kbs. Then when I edit on the PPC, it goes through this again, making the file almost a Meg again.
Is there any way to just sync the file with just one format? WM2003 doesn't have this problem at all. It syncs the file and it's still the same size on both the desktop and the PC, 325kbs. But not for WM5 or WM6. This is really annoying. Also, sometimes my date formats are changed from month-day-year to day-year-month, or something retarded like that. Really freakin annoying to say the least. You buy MS products and they're not even compatible. I feel like I have a Palm trying to sync Apple documents or something. It's really ridiculous! I'm hoping that one of you genius' can point me to a setting that I've overlooked to fix this. Or some kind of cab or hack to make Excel save documents in the same format as WM2003. Please help!
PS, I've tried to change the conversion settings in Active sync as well with no apparant effects.

As cuurent ppc office uses same format as pc why not copy and paste documents rather than synching - its what i do with any documents i want to have on my ppc.

I get the same error whether I use activesync or not. That's the problem - they're not the same format. When saving on the desktop it converts to XLS work book. When saving on the device it converts to a PXL file. Thery're different. As a matter of fact, I found out last night the WM2003 is converting the files the same way but it shows the storage size as if it were in the XLS form (says 352Kbs but desktop shows 950Kbs actual size until opened and saved on desktop) It's been doing this all along, so I guess the only difference is that now, I'm getting an warning before I save and rewrite the file and I have to rename it.
Strange thing is that no one seems to have this issue but me. I've only found like 2 or 3 posts on the internet with people having this issue with WM6. So, there's a way to bypass it - Just don't know how.

I tried to edit-save using WM5 storeage on the device and then edit-save on the desk top. Created the document on the device and it was saved as "Excel 2007 Workbook"(default). Save to storage card and then turned on WM5 storage and connected to the desktop. Went to the storage card, opened the same file and I got a brief message "file conversion in progress" before the file opened. I went to "save as" and the file type was the same "Excel 2007 Workbook". So, like you said, why is there a need for conversion if they're in the same format? Says there're the same but I don't think they really are. Desktop file size is always smaller than the device file size.
Appreciate your help, but I guess I'm just going to have to live with it.
PS and yes, it still asks me to rename the file if I try to edit it after coming from the desktop.

Office Mobile not Work

Having a problem with my Excalibur T-Mobile Dash. When I run office mobile word excel or powerpoint happens nothing...only folders come. I tried to install office mobile 5 and also 6 got in this forum but the error comes like "can't open...... " etc etc. I upgraded and downgraded between Windows MObile 6 and 5. But no result. I can't use either word or excel or prpnt.
Please help

If memory serves, Office Mobile v6 only allows you to OPEN Word, Excel, or PPT files and, in my experience, not all of them successfully opened. Office Mobile 6.1 lets you CREATE new Word, Excel or PPT files as well as open them (and, once again, that open thing is spotty).
Office Mobile 6.1 came with my Kavana wm6.1 ROM.

yea to create docs you actually have to import a blank one from your pc and then on the phone modify and save that....
