To put a shortcut to any EXE file onto your start menu, all you have to do is the following:
1) Using FileExplorer, navigate to the directory containing the EXE you want a shortcut to.
2) Tap and hold on the EXE file, and select Copy from the context menu that popped up.
3) Navigate to Windows\Start Menu and you will see your current start menu programs in that folder. Scroll all the way to the bottom of the list and tap and hold in white space (a blank part of the screen below all other programs), then choose Paste Shortcut. This will place a shortcut in your start menu. You can then rename the shortcut to whatever you choose.
Hope that helps!

You don't have a touchscreen, do you? I guess my directions won't help too much, will they? You could try to apply something similar using the keyboard (and standard windows ctrl-key functions). It might work to just literally copy the EXE file to the Windows\Start Menu directory. Not sure if that will play nicely if your program has to reference files in it's "home" directory.
This might be closer to what you will need to be able to do that:

thanks a lot! works. i couldn't find the /windows/start menu before, don't know why. but thank you!!

sofware for xda keyboard

I bought the expandable/foldable xda keyboard from o2 for my xda, but my phone crashed and I lost the cd a few months ago. I don't have any documents that would tell me about the makers website so I have no idea about what to do. Does anyone know where you can download the installation software
Here you are
Dear you is what you need to install to make it work. Note that you should DISABLE the "recieve all incoming beam" option in the setting to aviod possible port conflict when using the foldable keyboard.
HTH
How do you install this CAB file?
Ken,
I finally got a G7B0 folding keyboard for my SX56 (XDA). I lacked the CD, so I downloaded the driver from the Darfon site that was labeled G7B0. I installed it and it turned up on the list of Programs on the phone, but nothing happens when I put it on the keyboard. And when I click on the lower right corner, I get the usual list of choices (letter recognizer, on-screen keyboard, etc) but no mention of the folding keyboard. It does appear in "Remove Programs" as being in memory, though.
I downloaded the CAB file you attached (thank you) and clicked on it; au unzip program appeared and extracted seven files, ending in .001, .002, etc.
Now what? I can transfer these into the phone, but in which directory? And how do I get the phone to recognize and use these?
Dan
Dear Boston,
The file I attached here is already in .CAB format, You need not extract the file, just copy it to whatever location you prefer on your device (XDA) and then double click on it for self-installation.
Once the installation is complete, the keyboard icon should appear in the program menu and not in the "input method panel" in the lower right corner.
Once it's complete, activate the program, and in the window of setting, select "Keyboard" (not Infrared and serial). And as I mentioned, to aviod possible port conflicts, UNselect the "recieve all incoming beam" in the setting window.
HTH
Ken
Thanks
Jusy a note to say thank you to those who post replies to those of us who need to be spoon-fed when we hit problems, and to the site for archiving these replies.
Special thanks to Ken, I have just successfully installed the driver for a keyboard given to me by a friend.
Regards,
Dave

Reverting to Factory Settings. HELP!

I installed the WM6 Black, and my keyboard is not inputing the right chars...I tried the RegEdit fix but nothing. I am trying to revert to the factory Cingular settings and I am using RUU_Hermes_CINGULAR_WWE_2_1_.06.502.3_6275_1.33.31.00_108_Ship.exe. I keep on getting update error message. I have no idea what to do...Please help me. I am getting very frustrated with this thing. I looked at the Wiki and I see nothing regarding my question. Same thing for the forum.
Thank you in advance.
I had this with my T-Mobile ROM, the .exe file expands the files into a temp directory, the only one you need is the .NBH.
1. Copy this file to your storage card and rename it 'HERMIMG.nbh'.
2. Plug device into mains charger.
3. Push & Hold the side 'OK' and 'Power' buttons.
4. Reset the device.
5. Your now in bootloader.
6. Holding the 'Reset' button with the other two will make the device search for and run the HERMIMG.nbh file.
7. Make a coffe or something... (It takes about 25 minutes).

This is the quickest fix I have read about. Works with out a hitch for everyone who has done it.
Cool. I m happy I can finally do this. Although I would like to fix the keyboard instead...Anyways what solution do you guys know of that will fix the keyboard? Also where can I get that .nbh file?
Thanks a lot!!!
You can either use WinRAR to unpack it or if you run the .exe it will unpack to '\Documents and Settings\User\Local Settings\Temp'.
I would suggest going back to this ROM as a diagnostic tool to make sure the keyboard isn't faulty...Just make sure you upgrade to SPL 1.35 Olipro first as this makes your phone almost unbrickable in future! If you do brick it so either your stuck in bootloader mode or the OS won't start follow the above instructions...
Well, I know for sure that my keyboard was working perfectly fine before doing the WM6 rom. I have tried fooling around in the Registry...didn't make it worse, but didn't make it better either. What values do you guys have for the qwerty in the registry? Also is there a program that will let you program what key gets what symbol?
I know I am trying to decide between factory, or trying to fix this keyboard characters mix up...
Thanks again.
Not to over-simplify, but what phone are you using? If it's the 8525, there's a CAB file to remap the keys to right places... just search for 8525 keyboard fix.

Here is keyboard .cab file fix.
Thank you very much guys. I solved the issue. The fix I ended up using was; going to my local Cingular store and beaming a reg editor into the live 8525 they have there, and looking at the registry where the qwerty is located the hexadecimal value on it is 40409 (located @ local machine/software/oem/qwerty/). Please let others know about this fix for the Cingular 8525.
Also thanks a million to those who actually put a linky and not just say there is something somewhere...
Thanks again,
Cris

mouse mode in WM6

I have a problem and hope that some of the Artemis experts can help me
In WM6 you can select the mouse mode. Normally it is disabled which is fine since I use the keys more.
However, from time to time the mouse spontanious appears, probably after pressing a button too often or too long.....
How can I remove completely this function?? I don't use it and it is bugging me..
I have looked at the registry but there is nothing I can find..
what rom?
what button u press?
rename mousemode.exe in the /windows folder of the ppc into mousemode.bak
Use totalcommander instead of the normal ppc explorer, otherwise its a pain to do it...
soft reset.
I have tried to rename the file by using total comander CE and each time after I choose the enter after changing the exe to bak the file remains a .exe file????
Are you using Meschles Touch 2.1 ROM? Or do you have Hbutton installed? Meschled set the Start Menu Button to Activate the mouse when you hold it until it vibrates. If you don't use his ROM then it's not the reason.

Or after you close TomTom??
See this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1536593&postcount=2
I am using the Fracoon 2.2 ROM.
I have tried to press and hold the start menu but nothing happens.
To be quite honest, I have no idea what triggers the enabling of the mouse mode but it is irritating that it sometimes comes up
I know it is not when you close TomTom

I am sorry you are right. Work around is this.
1. Copy the mousemode.exe to another folder on the storage card(for save keeping).
2. open notepad or pword and make a tekst document. save it as mousemode.exe in \mydocuments (it will save as mousemode.exe.txt)
3. opentotal commander and rename mousemode.exe.txt into mousemode.exe
4. copy the new mousemode.exe into the windows folder (it will overwrite the old mousemode.exe.
5. soft reset.
Update:
Try to disable the mousemode via settings and afterwards do the steps above. Otherwise you will have a mousemode, but cannot shut it down an it treloads at a soft reset.
ready!
Just want to know if there is any Cab for
Mouse Mode in WM6

Can an exe file be altered to launch another app

I'm here in the windows directory and I'm playing around with Tasksmgr.exe and I'm wondering if i can change that to launch celetask.

Change the shortcut would be the easy way. If you have no LNK file (since on a BJII its a long press) I would search the reg to find the Tasksmgr value thats called by the long press then change it there.
Or the sneaky way, rename celetask to Tasksmgr and see if that works

So did renaming it work at all man? I am just curious.
I'm trying to find the reg key first, give me a sec
I found this:
\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ControlPanel\TaskMgr\
Value Name:
Redirect
Value Data:
:MSTASKMGR
could this be it, I wonder

Rename the exe file
I tried changing the "Task Manager.Ink" to "CeleTask.Ink" and that did not work it just launched the Task Manager
Think your best bet is waiting for NRG to come online or send him a PM asking for detailed instructions of what you have to do?
Going to be hard for any of us as we wont have the same reg.
Another way is just to set up space to open up CeleTask with SmartToolKit for now untill you get the answer.
Thanks Stylez !!! I will

Sounds like you did it backwards from what Bupahs told you. Go to Windows folder and find task manager exe file. Rename it to taskmanagerbackup.exe. Now rename your celetask.exe to taskmanager.exe(make sure its exactly the same as the original was named to start with) and place it in windows. This way when any link goes to open taskmanager, it will open(thinking its taskmanager) the newly renamed celetask(which is now taskmanager.exe). Might need a soft reset for good measure.
thanks so much, I'll try it right now, you see I was confused, lol, but I appreciate your advice, thanks

That is weird then, are you sure you did what showaco told you to do?
Resco Explorer 07 it won't let me rename, taskmgr.exe like showaco suggest, do you know of another way, thanks
it says the file is "in Rom" but I remember back in the Palm pilot days, that there was a way to use a file manager to let you edit rom files, I wondering how that can be done here.

If your just trying to remap this to celetask, then go in registry here:
\HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Shell\Rai\:MSTASKMGR\1
Change that to Celetask.exe, if its in windows then thats all you need to enter, if its in program files, then put \Program Files\Celetask.exe
After changing you will have to do a soft reset. I tried that and changed long press of home key to file explorer. I have bj1, not sure if bj2 has it mapped to a key and thats what your trying to change, but if it is then this will work.
thanks showaco, I tried that and it points exactly to what you're saying but for some reason it didn't update to celetask.exe, how funny is that ?

Left/Right Button assignment to ANY exe, or file

Can someone help me to set the hard left and right buttons to anything I want rather than only to those which are on the list?
P.S. I've been searching the forum all day, sorry if this was already discussed.

try this'
its called x1bc by one of my friends.. jkingdev..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=468007&highlight=x1bc
solved the issue from registry editor, but thanks for helping, and the application seems very useful
i also found out that there's a very easy way to do this. just copy the link file of the program you want included in button settings (not the actual program exe) to the folder windows\start menu\programs. this way you can do that without modifying anything. you must do it from the device itself, it can't be done from the PC via activesync.
