Hi all
I have come across the problem that I can't send SMS larger than 160 chars after I upgraded to the "official" WM6. I am using the Swedish version on a HTC TyTN. When I try and send a message that is larger than the 160 chars i get a message saying (loosely translated from Swedish) Can't send SMS. After I click ok I also get notification on the bottom left part of the sms window saying synchronization error.
Has anyone else got the same problem and if so have anyone found a solution.
/Nicklas
Just to clarify...
I take it to mean that you could sent sms that were over 160 characters before you upgraded?
Because most of the providers that I know don't allow that.
Found something on the forums about this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=293505
Hope it helps.
Yes I could since the SMS program automatically sends the large SMS in smaller parts.
Say I make an SMS with 203 chars then it would send it as 2 sms, one with the first 160 chars and then a second sms with 43 chars and when the SMS arrive to the recieving phone it will be put together if that phone is capable of that. Now days I think all phones can do this. Or at least should be able to do this but after the upgrade to WM6 this fails on my TyTN.
i guess the previous version of the SMS application was allowing what is called multiparts message, meaning it send as many SMS of 160 car regarding your text lengh but with no guarantee that the reviever will have them in the proper order
usually SMS is limited to 160 car
larsuck: Thanx for the link but nothing in that helped.
So if anyone else have any idea I would much appreciate it because it is a bit frustrating that it worked with wm5 and not with wm6 so far
Have you tried to take a look at DiStefano's Cab Collection? There is an Palm SMS application. You can try it with this application if it is possible on you're device. Its a small test!
Good luck
Well I found out how to fix it.
I did this:
Once upgraded settings need to be changed to ensure desired operation, on the device go to start>settings>connections(tab)>USB to PC, untick the box (Enable advanced network functionality) then exit back to the today screen.
Click to collapse
??? Why would this have an effect on SMS limitations?
I don't know exactly why but what I did was that I hard reseted the unit and after that multipart sms worked as it should. Then I connected the usb cable and ActivSync wanted to reconfigure the settings so I went through the wizard. One of the questions I get is if I want to let internet calls and mms to be sent when the unit is connected and I choose that. Then I let the unit sync with my PC.
After that I couldn't send multipart sms again until I unticked the Enable advanced network functionality box
If anyone knows why this is please enlighten me

Hi all,
Since I upgraded my T-Mobile ppc to 4.01.16 ENG Rom and 6.25.02 Radio, I have had bad experience on SMS sending. The sms I send is received by the recipients twice or trice and I am sure that I am charged with the extra sms. I have been thinking that my new radio version is not compatible to where I am (I am currently in Asia-Pacific/Philipines which uses GSM900/1800 but I am going to and from the US and Phil so I also need my device to be compatible with US network). I have been researching this forum and found out that radio downgrade is not possible and very dangerous for my device.
But now, I think I have found the real culprit. I always send messages through the 'mail' software (today panel and tap on 'no unread messages' part), of course through SMS. When I send the SMS and close the 'mail' software before before the message is sent (that is before the message sent icon on top appears), SMS is sent mutiple times. But when I wait the message sent icon to appear before I close the 'mail' software, the SMS is only sent once. I am very sure of this for I have observed this for quite some time already.
Is there an app or something to correct this? I need help for I am charged at least twice or trice for the SMS I send. Thanks a lot.
Try this method: Open Contacts, select the name and tap & hold on the name and select "Send SMS". Sometimes the s/w doesn't get the aknowledgement from the GSM network so it attempts to send it again.
Thanks Biso. Can you recommend a better software other than the 'mail' default program? Or can I make the mail program 'unclosable' so that it will on be minimized. I'm using SPB Pocket Plus so the 'x' button is closing the apps. I just want hte mail program to be also minimized ang the rest are closed. Thanks
Hi,
I don't prefer any other mail program than the standard one especially if you are connected to MS Exchange server. It's fully integrated with it, but for POP3 mail I heard that nPOPw is very good http://www.pocketpcfreewares.com/en/index.php?soft=839
As for minimizing the mail s/w, even tho I don't see any difference between closing and minimizing (except for on line s/w like MSN messenger), but with each task manager (I use Magic Button) you should find an option to assign the current window to "Keep Alive" flag. Then the x button will only minimize it (switch to the next window or Today if all off).
Thanks Biso. Just found out that SPB Pocket Plus has a 'minimize by gesture' feature which you can add to list the program you just want to minimize. And it works, when I just minimize the 'mail' software the sms I send is only sent once (recipient only receive it once). Thanks a lot. Guess this is a bug on T-Mobile WM2003 Rom?
Does anyone know what to add or remove or change in the registry to allow more than 160 characters on sending SMS ?
Thanks
this is a standard sms thing... you cant change how many characters to send in one message.. now you can type over 160 and your phone should display like 168/2 where the first number is characters and the 2nd number is how many sms' its going to send... and when it sends most newer phones will combine the 2 messages on the recieving device and it will display as 1
My O2 Xda Stealth shows as you described, however, it also gives me an error "Your Text Message cannot be sent". It works perfectly within 160 characteres (1/160) but as soon as you start with (2/320) shows the error when you hit SEND.
Any ideas ? Could you provide the Registry ?
Thanks
Maybe some restriction from your provider, I have O2 XDA Stealth too and I am sending longer messages without any problems...
Ok, thanks, let me go back an ask my Network provider to see if I have restriction.

This issue was a nightmare for me until I realized how to overcome with continuous efforts. In my case I use the arabizer and thus, I can send 160 char. in one shot (english) but when I change to arabic, the number of char. turns to 1/70 (i.e. max of 70 char. per shot).
Now, that wasn't the case always, I upgraded to one of the latest arabizer versions and surprisingly, everytime I wanted to send english sms it only allowed 70 char! I had no time to dig and find out why is this happening, though I crossed check between older cab files and new ones and found that among the difference was that the new one had two fonts files those are "tahoma" and when installed, voila the problem was solved.
The moral is it is not a standard SMS thing, it is something with localization characters. May be
This is not the case. The question if you can send full 160 characters or only 70 characters depends on the fact wheather you use ASCII or UNICODE. In case of use Arabizer or some special national characters (same for us here in CZ), you can send only 70 characters per one message, but then you can continue and you can see i.e. 75/2 and the longer message will be sent by 2 parts. But he cannot send more than one message at all...
In my case was the Network. For some reason there was a limitation on sending SMS. Network customer service did not resolve my case, I surfed in Internet and found some tricks for GSM networks.
Bottom line I just write down the following ##004#[SEND] and then I received a message from the network "Success" or something like this (don't recall). But it was enough to be able to send more than 160 characters (obviously the system splitted it in "n" numbers of SMS when you submit it)
Hope it could also work with other peoples
Hi all,
I have LVSW WM6 and I can create NEW email and send it using Pocket Outlook. However, if I want to send an email via "reply", I kept on getting a message that says:
The message could not be sent. Check that you have network coverage and that you account information is correct. Then try sending again.
I have good 3G coverage and can browse the Internet via PIE or Netfront. I have enabled POP in my GMail account.
Is there a particular POP setting that I must configure in WM6 for sending replied email via GMail?
Kinda funny, i had no problem until a couple days ago, with my gmail accounts, to send messages. Not exactly same problem, but the message is the same. My WM6 is Black 2.5.

Couple days ago? Did you made any changes to the device before this happened?
I wonder if this is caused by GMail and have nothing to do with WM6...

I had the same problem, and the solution i found is the following:
When you press the reply button you find: "Edit the sender's message" underlined.
click on it and the original sender's message will open fully
Now you can write your reply and send it well
Thanks a lot pasil.pt it seems to be the solution!!!
I had very same issue. Using gmail on Treo800/winmo 6.1, I get a message that refuses to send. Once stuck in outbox, nothing will send unless I remove it. Every time this happened I saved the offensive msg and now I have 7 of them. When I retry send any, each one fails. These are the facts for my case:
1) It happens on some messages.
2) Happens when replying or forwarding.
3) If I delete the content, the msg sends fine. At least, I can rule out problems with msg properties and header.
One thing I noticed when comparing native PO to FlexMail, is FM defaults to indenting the original msg using '>' character. PO does not. Since FM can send all these 7 msgs fine, I thought this should be good start to investigate.
So I grabbed one of the bad msgs and I indented it manually line by line and to my surprise, It sent successfully. I repeated this with each of the 7 msgs and all sent just fine.
PO does not have a UI control to toggle the 'indentbody' and 'indent character' features, but I did see there are some registry keys related. However, I could not get these keys to work.
HKCU/sofware/microsoft/inbox/settings
--> AddLeading
--> IndentBody
--> LeadChar
I can not get my changes to stick and not sure how to enter a 'dword' value for the above.
Can someone please help me find out...
- steps in changing above values and make them effective
- how to enable body indenting, make e.g. '>' the leading char using dword values.
I could not find a tweak tool to do this as well.
Any assistance will be highly appreciated.
Same issue. Very frustrating. After reading last, i tried deleting the original text (below but not including the header) and the message sent fine.
Hi
I thought it would be a good idea to start this thread to report bugs in the TP 2 official ROM so that we may collectively be able to find solutions, and if not, at least bring to attention of HTC to fix in newer builds of their ROMs.
So I request you all to put down bugs you have discovered as also fixes in this thread. I will try my best to collate all into the first post....
Here are the ones I have discovered so far:
ALARM BUG
I set the alarm one day and turned it off the next. But it continues to ring every day at the same time even though the alarm settings show it as off.
EXCESS RAM USAGE
With TF3d 2, messaging, notes and contacts running, the TP 2 shows RAM usage at 81%. Wonder whats taking up so much memory.
DIALER BUG
At times when I am calling, the call status screen does not appear and it continues to show the dialer screen even after the call button has been pressed for a contact.
I am having an issue with downloading emails on my TP2.
Using exactly the same settings as I had on my kaiser (which still works), when I try to send and receive I get "Error synchronising" Cannot connect with current connection settings.
I have ensured my email account is set up identically, and the connection settings to T-Mobile are identical. Anyone else had this issue?
Bluetooth:
When using bluetooth (activesync and headset profile) the pda crashes sometimes. If the screen is on it won't shut down and no interaction with the phone is possible. When it's off it stays off. Funny thing is that the pda keeps working. Phone is runnig when I am called etc.

To answer my own question, this :-

its something to do with their web proxy and only happens when you are connected to certain "bits" of tmobile.
To fix it, go to settings->all settings ->connections->connections->setup my proxy server-> and UNCHECK this network uses a proxy server to connect to the internet.

Sometimes the + caracter of a phonenumber is removed by touchflo3d when sending a textmessage as descriped here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=522535
i have a problem with the alert tones. my tp2 either don't play or plays very softly the first second of any alert, reminder, or ringtones. anyone with the same problem?
I'm finding that when I send texts 1 out of every 3 doesn't get sent.
I get an 'Text cannot be sent' message. It's not my Sim card cause it was fine when I had it in the X1.

So does mine, so perhaps it's a touch flow bug rather than a phone fault.
these have nothing to do with htc touch pro2 itself dude!
it's about the rom you installed in it,so pls return to your technician to get a good rom!
it's like you have super good pc,but the windows xp you installed is crap, then your pc will always get this problem and that......
FYI: rom means: OS(wm 6.5 for example)+Radio(GSM etc)+Extrom(touchflo 3d etc)
SMS Status Report Bug
Hi,
I have a German (O2) htc touch pro 2 with the current original O2 ROM (WM6.1 CE OS 5.2.21048 (Build 21048.1.6.3), ROM: 1.19.207.1 (51489) GER)
My problem is that the phone will not receive or display the SMS status report sent by the provider when the recipient receives the sms.
When writing an SMS, I ensure that under message Options, there is a tick next to: "Request message delivery notification".
I wrote an SMS message to my own number on the TP2 and sent it off. The message promptly arrives, yet no status report from the provider arrives. I have tried this several times to various numbers.
The same SIM card in my XDA Orbit always displays a delivery notification from O2 when the recipient receives an sms. It is not a network problem.
As I have a multicard (more than one SIM card on the same number), I have been able to narrow down the problem as follows.
Messages sent from the phone do generate a status report. I set SMS delivery to my Orbit, and then sent an sms to my own number from the TP2. Both the message and the delivery report arrived on the Orbit.
When I set the network to send SMS messages to my TP2, and then send a message from my orbit, the message itself was delivered to the TP2, but not the status report!
This establishes that the German O2 network is OK, the TP2 can correctly send an SMS and request a Status report from the network. It can also receive normal SMS messages, but not the status report. No sign of it receiving anything, appears to ignore such status reports entirely.
Does anyone have a fix for this, short of flashing a different ROM on it.
I know that a new official WM 6.5 ROM is due to be released for the TP2 (but not so far). I am hoping someone here was a quick fix (missing registry entry, etc.) which can be applied to the current system as I write a lot of text messages and it is useful to know when they have arrived.
Regards
Peter
request delivery notification
i upgraded to the original WM6.5.. when replying to a text message through the new TouchFlo's threaded message look (not the one you get when going in from 'all messages' but the one you get when "clicking" on the message itfelf from the messages tab.), you can go to [Menu] - [Message Option] and there you have the option [reuest delivery notification].
i tick that and say done, send the message and i DO get the delivery notification. however when going back to this same message screen to reply to another message, that option will be unticked again.. i have to tick that option for EVERY single message that i reply to.. as i said sending a message from anywhere else has its own option and is saved correctly and always works..
i googled as much as i could but couldnt find anyone with the same problem :/
Well basically I am getting charged for some of my text messages and I do not know why.
If I send a long text message will it send as a MMS???
THanks ... this is with T-Mobile
You need to speak to tmobile.
The manual says that an SMS will automatically be converted to an MMS if "very long", but not how long. Can you visually tell when this happens?

Just like when you add a word tot he dictionary it will appear eith "Converting to MMS ..." once it is too long.
if memory serves, it's somewhere between 3 and 5 SMS messages in length where it changes to an MMS.
I always though 5 was the max for text messages on any phone. Then it breaks it down into seperate messages.

Happened to me last week, NOT COOL!
is there a way around this ?
like a config option or something like that ?
is this specific to the desire or android ?
This is standard behaviour for all Android devices, and it applies to the stock messaging app. The reason for this, is that if you are going to send more than three SMSes, it will in most cases be cheaper to send an MMS. This does not of course apply when you have unlimited texts or other discounts.
Until this gets fixed, download a replacement from the market. Try chompSMS or Handcent SMS. The automatic conversion is optional in these.
ah ok
hope this gets fixed fast
using an alternative sms program such as handcent sms or chomp sms gives you the option to break up long text messages into seperate texts instead of converting to mms
