New ArcsoftMMS 4.2 - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam ROM Development

Hey folks here is the download link for Arcsoft MMS 4.2
http://www.jainamarie.com/ArcSoftMMS42.zip
Hopefully the chefs implement this newer version in the roms they cook.
I, on the other hand, am having some difficulties installing it cuz i have the old Arcsoft MMS 4.0 version still stuck on mine. Does anyone know how to uninstall it? Its not in the add/remove programs list so i'm a bit lost as to how to remove it from my phone before i can implement version 4.2.
Thanks in advance and enjoy!

Have had a look at this. There appears to be no MMS part to this app. It has only TXT Messages and E-mail.

After working for 2 days trying to convert the 804 rom to 409, I nearly gave up. But then I saw bepe's thread...
If you like this ROM or tools, please be sure to donate to Bepe, as he provided the base rom and most of the cooking tools.
In my typical fashion, I like a nice and clean rom for a base.
Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional

Note that the kitchen scripts have been changes so you only run BuildNB.bat, and it does the rest - including compiling the .nbh and running the RUU.

I'm holding my breath and turing blue... hurry Hahahaha (don't stress yourself, I know you'll get it up when you can!)
Anyways, I'm excited - great work as always!
This threading text messaging (or whatever it's called) is pretty cool. About frigging time a halfway useful app came along from M$.
I shoudn't have added MMS in, oh well.
Any photos yet? I love the scheme of Naked 7.

Exactly the same as 6. Only differences are there is an icon for Task Manager in Programs, and of course the new SMS app.
I just took some pics that I'll post in a sec, but except for the About page - it's my typical setup.

It'd be something to try, but I'm not sure when I'll have a chance to play. I really like the features in this new build, and want to nail down all the issues right away - which so far is only optimizing the storage space.
So far 6 is my favorite becaue it was based on an OEM release, but this one is gaining ground quickly
PIE might be as easy as replacing the browser folders in /SYS, but I haven't looked too closely at the actual files /dependencies. Could get ugly really quick because of how integrated it might be.
As for SMS, never looked at the components.
If ya get the storage and prgm space nailed down that would be awesome. Thanks again for your work.
Chris
44 meg with MMS... whooo!
Flashing now - will post results in a few, rom to follow.
Edit: overzelous... still working on it.
Sounds GREAT and I cant wait.
Any idea if anyone has got this rom (any version) working on AT&T?
I have had Schaps 4.40(wm6.1), as well as my own build from Pandora's Kitchen. I am currently editing the OEM/SYS directories to accomodate the OEM Pack from previous kitchen. Slowly but surely its coming. Either way, WM6.1 is nice, even just for the threaded sms built in
Thanks mattk_r, i couldnt believe you got a release out so fast. Keep up the good work!
Sweet im gone for 1 day and I come back to every1 going 6.1 crazy!! So this is big storage and still only 60 hmm

When I go to settings/phone or settings/sounds & notifications/notifications tab, change the settings and click "ok", changes don't take effect and the window won't close. It appears to be a problem with the default ring tones that don't play and won't let you change them

Uploading fix for that now... it has a few extra meg free as well. Only 60 total free, but getting better.
Edit: I just uploaded 8b2. I'm curious how the data connect works, as mine stopped working. Not sure if it's the carrier or the phone...
Edit2: Nevermind the data issue. I spoke too soon. Works fine
What data connection issues did you have? On different builds of WM6.1 I have had an issue with Active Sync disconnecting itself.
Also, why did you remove MMS in 8b2?

Softbank MMSLite + WM6.1 = sadness FIXED

THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN SOLVED BY MMSLITE BUILD303
SEE POST 135: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2390456&postcount=135
Problem:
MMSLite does not work on the new WM6.1 ROMs
It installs with no problem, but then in the Messaging screen there is no MMS account.
Looking at the RASBook in the registry, it seems that the hidden connection necessary is being created. Also other registry entries connected to MMSLite seem to be okay.
History:
MMSLite is a program used to access (Japanese provider) Softbank's special push mail system.
Previous versions of MMSLite have automatically created a MMS account and the connection necessary to access this account.
This same problem happened with some WM6 ROMs that had the dual SMS/MMS account cooked-in.
Questions:
Does anyone know how to fix this? (Wouldn't that be nice.)
Who is the creator of MMSLite and how can I contact him/her?
How has the structure of the Messaging application changed in 6.1?
Have other MMS-related applications been affected by changes in 6.1?
The file "cemail.vol" can't be modified may cause MMSLite don't working.
And it cause spb backup fails to restore the messages.
It happens on some of the WM6.1 Roms, but the first one (WM6.1 from the Vietnamese BBS).
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=362846
I have tried many method to delete the file but failed.
Need the answers too.
Anybody tested the "Softbank Mail" app on WM6.1?

I gave up on that Softbank Mail app. It was slow and cumbersome. Personally, I would rather not be able to access MMS than use that software.

Agree. Using Softbank Mail is really a pain.
Seems the app "DRAW" everything on the screen instead of using controls.
Maybe that's the reason why it's soooooooooooooo slow.
However, I will give it a try on this weekend.
Good News
I just tried Pays WWE215 Full(+ Askal e-chinaV62 No.5 + Ask IME_31J), MMLite is works fine.
I think softbank mail should work on this rom too.
Sorry I am wrong. This rom uses Big Storage ROM v3.62.
Will try another soon.

Mate, just a note to say it works fine on CRC PHK, the latest version. Like you I had problems on earlier 6.1 roms. The interface is slightly different, but all works. Oh, and MMS/SMS are separate too!

BOMB! So anything based on the PDAViet ROM is cool it seems. I tried Pandora's version 13.5 and have MMSLite running.
Edit: NO BOMB! Spoke too soon.
So roms in this forum used another base rom.
Just tested Pays ROM Full - WM6.1 WWE with Big Storage RC2. MMLite don't work. Softbank mail works fine.

Thnaks alot for the info.
Tried the emoji thing, works great for me.
And tried Pandora Kitchen too.
MMLite works, but the file cemail is still locked by some process.
Can't restore from previous backup by SPB Backup,
I do have the memory that saw my restored messages get threaded by the new WM6.1 messeging app. Must be the original VietBBSRom.
So, some ROMS work, some dont.
is there a list of working ROMS?
and how to figure out what version on WM6.1 was used to cook a rom, to make sure it will work with MMSlite?
Tried another
Tried Hermes_ShadoW_2.0_CE(Build 19521.1.1.0) from Cloudyfa, MMLite dosen't work.
But Spb backup does work.
Waiting for a rom to let those two thing both work.
has anyone tested the new Pay's ROM Light\Full version from Feb 11th?
does it work with MMSlite?
It works! had no problems with it so far. 24 hours. Although, his rom seems to be slightly unstable. I have been getitng lots of random hangs with it. Might be due to MMSlite. But atleast it doesn't disappear from the mail selection menu!
Edit: it doesn't work. 24 hours was the limit. Same old problems. See my post 23 below.

I have observed the same with Pandora Naked 9b1 and have lost emails this way. Not every time, but sometimes when I sent a test mail when MMS had disappeared from the selection screen it never arrived. So be warned, you may miss emails.

mms on pdaviet tf2d-rom?

has anybody figured out what to do to get a working mms function to the pdaviet tf2d-roms? i currently use v30b, and i tried several versions of arcsoft mms composer on it... but everytime different registry-settings were missing, so for example i was not able to set size limit and so on. when i created the missing entrys manually, i could open mms, but there where no pictures to choose, even on storage card none of my pictures were displayd.. so i tried to send an mms just with text, but nothing happened... mms still stayed in the outbox.. on other versions of arcsoft i jus didn't come that far... i was not able to create a new account on some versions... so maybe something basicly on rom is missing to install mms???
The lastest rom tf2d PDAVIET are all without mms and not only...
no Windows live,no browser,etc..
yes, that's claer, but all of them can be installed after flashing the roms. browser etc. and so mms, too. but mms i can't get to work! google maps runs, opera too and so on... but no matter, what version of arcsoft mms is installed, it never work on this roms... anybody else an idea, why???
Yes,but after to have put within browser, mms, youtube and google maps the device not it moves more..!!This is the problem.
However test to install an other cab for the mms.
Try this:
http://rapidshare.com/files/149970597/ArcsoftMMS_ver5.0.cab.html
thanks, will try that!
for your other post: i have to say that my orbit is unexpected fast and stable also with these (and other) apps on it! manila runs perfect, google maps work great, destinator 6 too, all my other apps needed do so... expect mms (till now..)
couldn't get to work either... now i'm on yue's m2d rom and it's nearly perfect! but thank you for your advise!
Anyone get any joy with mms yet ?
This is stopping probs the best rom yet

Override HTC SMS with WM SMS?

The question I have is that when clicking on the message preview or when clicking on "Send Message" from the contact details screen, is there a way to default to using the WM messaging instead of HTC's? I much prefer the threading of WM as it's quicker and not sluggish. My sig has my current phone specs.
Thanks!

Give this cab a try, I think it's what you're looking for...it disables the HTC SMS interface. You'll still have the "messaging" tab in TF3D/Sense, but when you select a message on that tab, it will go straight to the WM interface.

That's possible, I'm honestly just running the stock tmo ROM (6.1), so the issue could just be 6.1 vs 6.5. I have seen other cabs on here that do the same thing, they might be 6.5-compatible. I don't have any of the others anymore or I'd just post them here for you. I'm pretty sure I found them just by searching "disable HTC SMS"
Would also be interested in getting the original Winmo interface working for 6.5, the sense messaging app is craptastic!
Still haven't had any luck with this yet. I tried installing the Zeyene cab but that didn't fix anything. I then installed the SMS cab that NRG provides with his ROM, but that's just a different skin and was just as slow as the HTC SMS.

Yeah, that's the other one I've used, and I know it works on 6.1, but I can't say for 6.5...either the HTC messaging module is different in 6.5, or just accessed differently by the system.

Well Zeyeene claims to be for 2.5. I've got a registry editor on my phone so if anyone knows a registry fix for this then by all means, do tell
Just checking to see if anyone's thought up anything on this yet.
I like Windows Mobile, and I like TouchFlo3D. However, I do not like that fact that the built in HTC SMS is slow as dirt. Any time I try and message someone with the HTC sms it makes my phone crawl. When I use the WM version it works much faster and I like the way it looks more. Does anyone know of a ROM that fixes this?
So apparently I've been wrong with my terminology here. I believe what I should be describing is to over ride the manilla sms application with the HTC one... But perhaps someone more knowledgeable can help me out with the terms.
anyone figure this out for wm 6.5? the modified 47dd6acd_manila worked on 6.1 but it does nothing on 6.5.. seems htc changed the filename.
i hate this laggy htc sense sms..
Bump this... please someone.
with sense 2.5...
the messager is actually HTC Message Client.
an overlay of HTC Message.
i am not sure of a cab that disables it.
but i know there are custom roms that do not include it.
those roms have the same messenger as sense 2.1 roms.
hope that helps. somehow.
in the quest for a fix.
I am looking for this fix still as well...someone please update if a fix is found. Energy July 1 ROM Does not have HTC Messenger built in...I however find Energy ROMS unreliable--so it wont work for me.
The only thing that works for me is removing text messages from TouchFlo then creating a shortcut to the text app.
Not that it's just slow the send button is in a different location using the Windows or HTC messaging. Sometimes I end up hitting back instead of send because I didn't notice which interface I was in.
bump. what is the text app?

It is just the shortcut in programs for text messages it just takes you to the default WM text messenger program.
Did you try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=556614
It's for the touch HD but tp2's quite similar.
Would love to know how to disable landscape mode in the messaging app I find the flip between modes is way to slow.
I would love a fix for this. I hate HTC Messenger so much, and I don't want to have to flash to a different ROM :/

[Q] Vito SMS-Chat and ExtremeText Programs / Compatible with Tilt 2 WM 6.5 HTC Sense?

Hi there,
I've recently downloaded both Vito's SMS-Chat and Birdsoft's Extreme Text programs as possible alternative text-messaging clients. I have a Tilt 2 phone running on Windows Mobile 6.5 - with the most recent upgrade provided on the HTC Web site. (My phone runs on HTC Sense, for example.) I'm having a problem with both of these text-messaging programs. Both programs install successfully on my phone, and both programs show sent and received messages that have been initiated by using the default SMS client; however, when using either SMS-Chat or Extreme Text, I am UNABLE TO SEND a text message. In the threaded-messaging windows, they will list the messages that I have written - but the messages don't actually get sent. Are these two programs incompatible with the Tilt 2 phone running on the upgraded WM 6.5 / HTC Sense? Is there anything that I could do to get these programs to work? I find the default HTC Sense messaging client to be slow and cumbersome. Thanks for whatever advice that anyone could provide. I noticed that someone else had posted a question similar to this one - regarding SMS-Chat only - but a solution didn't appear to be listed in that thread. Also, since my question is with regard to both of these text-messaging programs, I decided to begin a new thread. Thanks again.

Why aren't you asking this question on Vito's or Birdsoft's website? This would be a support question for them to answer. Most of us use Arksoft messenger or some other included one from our ROMs. If the program isn't compatible with your device, then they should offer you a refund.
EDIT: After looking at both websites, it appears that SMS Chat is compatible with WM versions 5, 6.0, and 6.1. Extreme Text is listed as compatible with 6.0, 6.1, and 6.5.

Thanks a lot for the advice. I contacted both Vito's and Birdsoft's customer-service departments; I'm just waiting for a response from each. Thanks, too, for taking the time to research the WM versions with which these two programs are compatible.
I tried to install Arcsoft, the program to which you referred. My phone indicated that the program installed successfully; but I cannot see the icon, nor can I find it anywhere in any of the directories. I installed a "security policy lifter" cab, too, which I found mentioned somewhere in this forum. Evidently, that little cab is to be installed before Arcsoft is. Anyway, do you have any ideas why this isn't working for me? If you do and if you have a moment, please pass them along. Thanks again for the response.

If you use a stock ROM, meaning a ROM image that the device came with or an upgrade from your carrier or HTC, then you will need the security policy lifter installed beforehand. This will lift the restrictions on your device for modifying the system files that Arksoft messenger changes. If you are running a custom ROM, then you should not need that cab at all as this change will already be cooked in.
Make sure that you install the WVGA version of the cab file. This is the resolution that the Rhodium (Touch Pro2) uses, which is 480x800.
Arksoft Messenger is meant to replace the default HTC messenger. There should not be any icons or Start Menu links for you to open. The application is meant to stand in the place of HTC Messenger wherever that application would have opened.
The only other thing I can think of is to remove both of those programs and then install sdkcerts. I've attached that file for your reference. Once that installs, soft reset your device and then install Arksoft. If that doesn't work, (keep in mind that it replaces HTC Messenger) then maybe try out a custom ROM or something that has it cooked in already.

Thanks for your thorough response and for the time that you took in compiling this information. I've already done everything that you suggested, though, and I've even contacted Vito's and Extreme Text's support teams... but to no avail. Neither has replied. With regard to Arcsoft Messenger, I tried just as you suggested; but that didn't work. I think, at this point, I should just let it go. Looking for a "cooked" or custom ROM might be a bit beyond my scope of knowledge. I imagine that I'd have to do a hard reset as well - not something that I enjoy! If you could think of anything else, by all means let me know! Otherwise, thanks again for lending your expertise and patience. I appreciate it.

The first flash can be a bit daunting, but it gets easier with time. Hard resets and flashes can be prepared for by the numerous backup applications available. Microsoft Myphone will backup all of your personal information for you. Any programs you have installed from the marketplace can be re-downloaded. Any applications you've installed in any other fashion can be backed up and then reinstalled. Once you get the knack for flashing, it is a simple task to learn how to automate the flashing process so that everything installs and restores itself automatically. Most all current ROMs for the Rhodium will use a different messenger program than the HTC one.
