I realize that BBC is very low on most people wish list here but until our company upgrades to Exchange 2007 later this year, I am forced to use the Blackberry Connect client if I am to carry my preciouse 8525 instead of a blackberry. I just got the BBC working on WM5 in 3G and am thrilled. However, having tasted the great WM6 Roms here, I must have it!
Does anyone have a good WM6 rom that the Blackberry Connect client actually works on without having to hack the OS? I'm fairly technical since I manage our IT facility and can reg edit, etc, but I don't feel too comfortable with the OS hacking I've seen in some threads to make the BBC client work. I am almost sure I'd brick my device.
If anyone could point me in the right direction I would be very grateful. Thanks for your time. - EH
BB Connect works fines for me.
First post, but have been reading the boards and enjoying the benefits for months.
I'm using the radio that was released with the Cingular 2.06 ROM, but it might work with others. I didn't have to do any OS tweaking. I just installed the Desktop Activesync program and the BB Connect for WM6 that came with WMXL v0.20 and everything worked. Of course, I called Cingular and had them change my data plan to the PDA Connect for BB Connect Unlimited.
So excuse my ignorance but I haven't been able to find this. You are using a radio version not included in the WMXL .20 rom? How do you keep your orignial rom? Oh, and thanks for the quick repoonse.

easy... you cook a Radio ONLY upgrade using Dutty's NBHTOOL1.0... you can find the thread by using the find function or reading the wiki...
WMXL v0.20 doesn't come with a radio upgrade. Using the Wiki, you can find the available radio upgrades, of which mine is one of them. Just flash the OS and the radio independently.

If you don't feel confortable I would say don't use any of these WM6 updates since NONE are official.
But if you want WM6.. Why not use WM XDA Live .20.
It's got the OS # changle already done to allow BBC..
(At least as far as I know.. I don't use it...)

So let me see if I have have this correctly. I if I use the WMXL .20 rom, it will not change the radios? I will have the same radio verison after the upgrade or will need in reinstall the radios as well? Forgive my ignorace. I just want to make sure I have the right Cingular radio version to keep the Blackberry Connect going.

only the OS will be changed. the rest u leave alone and will remain as was before an OS upgrade.
Depending on what you have now you probably want to upgrade the radio.
Not only will get better data connections as well as less problems.
But some WM6 things like the connection Icons require radio 1.27 or higher to work properly.
Ok. Thanks guys. I'll give that a go. The only concern I had was using a radio or OS version that locked out BBC. I have read the other users lost BBC connectivity after upgrading their OS to WM6. I would like to use the lastest radio versions for the improvment as long as they don't kill my BBC.
Thanks again for all of your responses.

try this maybe working for you
@EH
I am running WM6 v.21 and my radio, etc. is as in my sig. BBConnect was (briefly) an issue with WM6 on v.1, but since the update to .21 and the hacked BBConnect (also listed on the initial post) it works a treat.
Hope this helps - feel free to PM if you have any questions

Thanks! Can you tell me what you mean by the "hacked BBConnect"?
@EH - sorry, I mean v.21 is hacked for BBConnect.
I run BBConnect client 2.1.2.31, but I also believe you can run .52 (someone correct me?). I had to dig around for .31 (.exe file, got it on local PC, so could email) but you can get .52 from the FTP on here.
Here's a link to a BBConnect thread that may help:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=294218
Ok. Cool. Could you email that to me? I am running .52 but it won't start. Also, I assume by v.21 you are using the WMXL v.21 or am I off on that? My email is [email protected]. Thanks again for your help.
I am also using BBConnect client v 2.1.2.31, works like a charm.
Well, I guess I'm beat. I have installed:
WXML v.20
Radio: 1.33.31.00
Rom Version: 3.22.110.1
Can't get it to work. :-(
Jakirkla: What version of BBConnect are you using?
Ok. I'm just freaking excited now! I did this reg edit that I found posted in another thread. It was in the LSVW build but I used it on the WMXL build and it worked. Not only that, but previously, my BBC would disconnect while I used the web, messaging, etc. And I had to wait awhile for the BBC to reconnect after the browsing was done. NOW, however, they are running simulatinously over the 3G network. The BBC icon stay completed connected and I receive mail WHILE web surfing. This was what I did.
Changed HKLM\System\Versions and edit the Aku string from .0.0.0 to .2.3.0
Restarted Hermes (holding power button)
Installed BBC 2.1.2.54
Install Blackberry Desktop 2.1.1.21 (for BES users)
Forgive me if this is old news but I haven't seen or heard of this working before. I'm so excited that I can seem to have BOTH services running now and on WM6. I'd like to thank everyone again for their reponses.
Hermes exclusive???
Hi man,
The ability to use both BB service and browse the internet is exclusive on the Hermes (because of HW capabilities) or can it be done in other PPCs?
I had never heard of such a thing until now!!! I am impressed...

HAve you looked in the extras section for WMXL?? There is a version of BBC in there, I dont use it so im not sure if it will work but that is the one most people are using in WMXL, as said before the CE build version in WMXL v0.2.x was modded to allow for BBC to work?!
I have looked at the wiki for cooked WM6 ROMs, however I am confused as to which one is best for an Orange SPV M3100?
Do all of these work on the M3100 as some say XDA?
It seems that the vanilla one has a few problems with missing icons, sd card dropping, remote desktop missing, no video calling etc.. Are there specific patches for these problems or do you have to put a different ROM on there?
Thanks
Mark
I'm running WM6 for Hermes LVSW Edition (2007-03-15) (WM6 Pro Style) on my M3100, and it runs really nicely. You can enable the video call skin easily on it. Only thing that doesn't work properly (and is the same on ALL WM6 roms so far) are voicemail notifications - they come through as test messages. Not a big problem though.
I use the same version as above. The black edition does seem a bit faster but it seems to have problems with the latest version of spb weather. LVSW has no problems with this so i would say its the most stable which is a shame, Black Edition just looks so dam sexy. Voicemail notifications are not a problem for me because I use my device on 3 UK who sent a text for voicemails anyway.
Just remember if you decide to take the plunge to WM6:
Goodlink will only work on WMXL v.20/.21
You must have Activesync 4.5 installed to sync your device
Push email will only work with Exchange 2007
S.K.

I beg to differ on the exchange 2007 bit, my push email is working fine and we use Exchange 2003 SP2 at my work.
I'm running the WMXL on an Orange SPV M3100 and it runs fine! The push mail is working with an Exchange 2003 SP2 server, and it works except for the HTML. If you want HTML and push mail with Exchange, you need Exchange 2007.
Is it possible to apply all changes/differences to the Vanilla version that exist in the LVSW version or do you have to blast the phone away and start again?
Thanks
Black Edition has problems while putting device on sleep
call accept and call disconnect many times keep lit
also I had alarm fire up failure
It's trully a FAST release but I think It eats up battery much more faster
WMXL if the stablest I've used till now
with no major problems ...
PLEASE to all Cookers
REMOVE the nifty Registry editor
The Included Task manager already has THE BEST Registry manager I've ever seen that has the ability to search, Import and export.
It's trully amazing software!
also Please do your best to If possible to optimize ROM
so as at end of customization the free RAM count to be around 29~30MB...
I would go with Black Edition..Very Quick.
Orange SPV M3100 and LVSW WM6 Pro even for me.....really stable and clean rom!....give it a try ;-)
I am currently running the WM6 Black Edition and so far I like this WM6 ROM the most. It really works quickly and is stable for me...this is the most important feature!
My only issues with it are that Spb Pocket Plus cannot be installed and that sometimes TomTom 6 does not see the maps on the storage card. The TomTom issue can be solved by simply removing and inserting the memory card. The Pocket Plus issue is going to continue for a while. However, there is not much you could miss from that with WM6 and all that is included.
The LVSW version from 3/13 was excellent as well. It did not have any of the problems I mentioned and was almost as quick. It uses the old WM5 dialer in the phone though. Both perform the same function but in the Black Edition it just looks better.
So far I am not sure which is BEST, but the LVSW version never gave me a problem. The Black Edition has shown to little issues, as I mentioned, but it is quicker and looks much better.
I don't know why someone said that Voicemail notifications arrive as text messages. On my phone, with all of the ROMs I have used, they arrive as normal with the VoiceMail icon in the top bar.

Hello all,
With all the awesome chef's in the kitchen it is hard to ask this question... but I will.
I would like to know what the most stable WM6 rom is, In your opinion.
I have used Black 2.0... for 2 weeks (seemed flawless)
Then I tried Tried 2.5 then LVSW, and even Custel's ROM but get random freezes, I grab the phone and its froze, missed how many calls?? I can't have this.
Something I might be doing you say, possible but I have even installed no additional apps, and only sync to exchange. I see others having some various issues with differnet roms. So this prompted me to ask the question I have.
So whats the most stable ROM?
i use black 2.5 with his new memory.cab and works great no problems. what programs are you using b/c it may be related to them. maybe use sktools to delete some unneccesary programs from starting on boot and go from there.
Black 1.2 with a weeks+ of working it to perfection. No need to flash anything else for me until WM7 comes out. lol
Coming back to a froze device sounds like you have the sd card lockups, and not rom related, but if you dont have a card installed, dismiss my post.
I was using Black 2.5, I have a lot of freezes in particular when I activeSync and I do activeSync A LOT, (freeze about every 3rd time I activeSync). A few miss call, and call which I have no audio.
I switch to LVSW 4/23 (FULL version), currently with the same applications installed on Black 2.5, my phone seems to be running well, no freezes yet for half a day already. (ActiveSync more than 10 times already)
I am not saying there is any problem with Black 2.5 rom. A lot of people are very happy with Black 2.5. What I am simply saying is that with the set of applications that I need (a few of them are beta apps), LVSW seems more compatibility than Black.
P.S. Using PhoneAlarm, PocketInformat, CEStar, ISilo, Cyberon Voic Speed Dial, and SplashID
I've had no freezing issues, only app I install is im+
I am running Black 2.5 and I too am having similar ActiveSync problems. And it freezes every third time as well. Strange....

Previously I was using Black 2.0 and never had one freeze. But since I upgraded to 2.5 I get random freezes like couple times a day, I suspect this could be due to the new OS build? Once I have time I would probably reflash it back to 2.0 cuz it's rock stable for me.
Black 2.5 is working sweet as for me.
Couple of freezes with LVSW and XDA Live, but nothing major, i had freezes with the OEM rom, its just what phones and computers seem to do these days!!
I;ll stay Black, but at the end of the day, use the rom, which you think you will get the best community support, has the best community friendliness and if you ever do have troubles, you shouldnt be troubles trying to fix them!
keep in mind that these ROMs are essentially beta (even if based upon the "final" WM6). they do not undergo the rigorous testing that a carrier would provide.
if you are unwilling to deal with this (and RTFW for answers), then you might be better sticking with the factory shipping WM5 roms...
I like Custel's rom, support is there, and rom is quick n smooth
LVSW 4/23
The full version of LVSW 4/23 is the most stable so far for me. This is the first of the WM6 ROMS I can open and run Netfront, Newsbreak, Pocket IE, Messaging, Camera, Resco Explorer, get a phone call at the same time and still have no freezing. I did a little tweaking to it, but out of the gate it is just fine. All I really needed to install in the Keyboard fix and the Cingular settings.
noop, the reason you freeze alot or crashes alot is becoz of CE-Star..all i know is LVSW does not have the problem, but all other rom does...
Don't use the one from WM5, i remember there is a lite version on this fourm (topic x01ht showing chinese or sth)
Why i know, coz i just install ce-star on black, it will never work..it will crash almost anything...The guy who made the lite has a re-edit version of Ce-star for crossbow, that you have to try your own..since all i need is viewing~
They are all good!

We are all one big happy community here at XDA Developers!
For me with the earlier round of ROMS LVSW 4/23 worked the best. Zero problems. Haven't finished trying out the latest batch yet so I can't say. The bottom line is that with these ROMS you really do have to try them all and make your decision on which one best meets your needs when coupled with the software that you use.
All of these cooks are turning out some nice ROMs, the problems are more frequently caused by programs that are not yet certified for WM6 and the cooks, of course, have no control over this.
I would also suggest not to use any program to clean your OS, e.g. memory maid as it seems become unstable for all rom after cleaning the system with this kind of software.
Hi all,
Thanks for all your responses. I agree support from this forum family is awesome. I also agree with trying several roms to find the one that best fits my needs (but I don't yet know what they are, I just moved from a treo 650, and prior was a treo 600)
I am on LVSW now, I will try it for a bit and see how it goes. I do like Custels as well... Hmmm decisions, decisions. lol
Well thanks again for your responses and thant you Chefs for all your diligent work. You're the Kings in my book.
Comparison Page???
Would it be posible for the creators of the roms to tell us ALL of the bells and whistles that each of them has on it, and someone could compile a chart or page to compare them all? Obviously, the Voice Dial function is important to me, and I dig the Space Invaders, but there is so much more. I would be glad to do it if I could get the info on each with which to begin. As for Stability; is there a way to do a survey that would allow us to rate them according to the opinion of the users here regarding speed of boot/reset and stability and whatever anyone else can think of?
I recently moved to the Dutty Premier Windows Mobile 6 - Full Edition - Version 1 and So far I am very happy with it. And it appears to have all the tools and toys I want and need . . . so far.
Thanks,
If one doesn't already exist, someone please set up a wiki page for comparisons and we'll sticky it.

Custel Cingular 1.2
The only WM6 ROM I have upgraded to is Custel's Cingular 1.2. It was a problem free upgrade and I have not experienced a single freeze and the only soft resets I have done were those required to install other applications. Unless someone, including HTC or Cingular, comes out with a version that adds features that I can't live without (and are not added to these cooked ROM's on this forum as CABs), I will be happy to stay with my current version.
Pls don't blast me for posting this. I have read the black 2.5 thread and could not find a working solution for BB. The chef have mention that someone is cooking to make it work as its a "ball breaker" to edit it. he he i remember this is the master chef for black 2.5 words.

An alternative to the BB Connect could be the new BB Application suite
http://www.rim.com/news/press/2007/pr-23_04_2007-01.shtml
Apperently full BB functionality on WM6
Don't know when or how it will be released. Hopefully it will be available as a standalone package but even if it is packaged with operator's roms I expect it won't be long before it is extracted and packaged as a standalone app.

Have you tried v4.0 of BB Connect for PPC?
I just installed it on my 838 Pro running Black 2.5 and it installs and seems to connect however I dont have a Blackberry sim card and i'm not sure if i have a license available for me on the BES server at my work (but i prefer Exchange push email anyway)
I posted about BB Connect 4.0 here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=304973
As was downloaded from the Dopod Website it could also be locked to Dopod devices but not sure.
EDIT: I just installed the ActiveSync BBConnect Desktop Software on Vista and it was able to tell my my account on the BES server isnt configured so looks like its working OK on my Black 2.5 device and Vista Laptop.
well this fantastic news if bbconnect works based on the new version.
now i can put my focus on black 3.0 as well the customization app entitled "PIMP MY BLACK" that will be part of Black 3.0

JJ,
I can confirm that BBC v4.0 does work on Black 2.0, but it does not work on 2.5. I flashed Black 2.5 and had no success, but am currently running BBC v4.0 with Black 2.0, with no problems. Might I add that BBC v4.0 allows syncing Contacts, Calendar, Task and Notes with BES and you can now view picture attachments

Trying BBC 4.0 on Black 2.5.
However no luck connecting.
However I know sometimes you need help from IT with renewed activation.
So more tomorrow and fingers crossed.

p.s. Installation allways work. Also with the older clients. Getting connected to RIM is often the issue.

I agree, having the IT Policy automatic lock and password is very awkward and makes the 8525 very difficult to use. This was an unwelcome added feature.
Jasjamming, are you still planning on trying to fix blackberry with 2.5, or are you waiting for version 3.0.
Keep up the good work!
Was wondering is this release in relation to the application suite that RIM have indicated as i see a folder with BB Browser and BB IE browser which uses the data connection from BB toconnect to internet.
The password locking thing is neat but cumbersome. I'm still trying to figure out how to get the contacts over. I'm still using WM 5 as Black 2.5 as posted by other user doesnt seem to work.
Now trying to do the installation from a hard reset PPC and see how it goes.
I don't like the password thing at all....Looks like I may have to go back to previous bbconnect to get around it. Don't want to be typing the password everytime I want to check email....it was the reason to switch to 8525 and bbconnect from my blackberry in the first place.

Sorry.. Black 2.5 doesn't work. On black 2.0 it runs well.
JJ I would say focus on 3.0 for now and when its released focused on getting 3.0 to work with BB. Since its so close I think most of the BBC users can wait a bit longer on Black 2.0 and then move to Black 3.
Just my 2 cents,
Arnie
So besides the ability for our coporate Lotus Notes / BES admins to enforce policies, make me enter password every hour, shut my PPC down , enterprise activation, syncing contacts, tasks and notes and to view picture attachments what would be another appealing reason for me to upgrade from BBC 2.X ?
Have anyone tested BBC 4.0 on LVSW 0429 ROM yet ?
TIA
BBC Features comparison chart.
It did not work for me on the LVSW 0429 ROM, installed found server for about 5 secs said connected then dropped out.
My boss has the 8525 from Cingular. We recently upgraded it to the latest WM5 rom and the thing works fine, except he can't get his gmail accounts to work anymore. I have a Treo 700wx myself and have messed with it a few times on stuff like this. But what I was wondering what is the most stable WM6 rom out there that we can upgrade to so it resolves that problem, BT problems he has as well?
And is there a way to go back to the original ROM? I can't seem to find a download of it anywhere. Thanks!
you might want to start reading here: and here
its imperative that you read through this very important links not unless you want to end up with an expensive paper weight.
also, before somebody starts to flame you with your "whats the best ROM question" (it has been covered here a million times) it really depends on what you want. again you need to patiently search through the forums for your answers. it definitely is there.. good luck..

From people who have tried them I want to know for a CFO of the company which one is the most stable and works with AT&T. And how can I go back to the original ROM. Anyone have that ROM upgrade/downgrade available?
dude, you gotta read each ROM's thread... and see what people are saying about it... if it is a hermes rom then it will work for AT&T .. and you can ALWAYS go back to the original ROM by going to www.htcamerica.net and downloading it and installing it.

Thanks!

How was your boss accessing his gmail accounts prior to the WM5 upgrade?
i.e.
-Pocket Outlook
-the web (www.gmail.com)
-gmail java client
-Exchange Server (Google Apps)
Seriously, I have been testing most WM6 roms posted on this site for the same reasons. Our whole company uses 8525s.
I would NOT recommend ANY of them for corporate use. Let alone for my boss!
Wait for the 'official' Dopod 838Pro ROM out tomorrow.

Yeah, I'm sure it'll be ready for prime time alright, especially for use with AT&T.
Seriously though, what are you people smoking when it comes to the fervor over this impending "official release"? I believe I'm having iPhone deja vu...
My 2 cents
Well the original poster was asking about what the best ROM was. I've tried a few of the WM6 ROMs and at least my 2 cents, the best has been vp3G's 2.01h. I had issues with the keys not lining up with othe versions - though was able to fix them with a patch. Also, vp3G's version has the data connections configured for AT&T - though you could possibly do that manually with other ROMs. I did have to install the other Cingular apps like MobiTV and XM radio that wasn't included in his ROM.
Before I upgraded to vp3G's ROM (I didn't keep the other WM6 ROMs for very long so I can't speak to their stability), but on the 2.15 "official HTC" upgrade for the 8525, I was resetting my phone daily - some days multiple times - but I seldom have to reset my phone now. Bluetooth also has improved. I have a logitech bluetooth stereo adapter which was hit or miss before when I tried to sync the two. Now it syncs without any issues. There's also the added benefit of a registry editor, as well as addition tweak settings included in the ROM.
Great work vp3G! - got my 3 other friends with 8525's to take the plunge and upgrade as well.

2hrs is not nearly enough.
Try a minimum of 12hrs.
(read, research, search, read, search, read)

And now you'll need to set aside another 2-4hrs.
Wait until all your symbols are messed up.
(easy fix - but that question gets asked over and over)
If you're like alot of new people here, you will just start a new thread on every possible question you could have.
Happy Learning.

If everything is ok only except his gmail. Please check the gmail setting.
In the gmail setting, there is a "forward & pop", check the pop.
I just pruned the living hell out of this thread to keep it technical. Any more OT crap and I start handing out bans.....
Those of you whose posts were deleted: You've been warned...
geez....
Anyhoo....
I've been running my company's 8525 equipped execs on WM6 for over a month w/o complaints. In fact, they love it. We've also been able to mass upgrade to Office 2K7 because of this since the ROM I'm loading has Mobile Office 2K7 installed and can read native attachments.
We use direct push to Exchange 2k3 currently.
I'm also keeping the security folks at bay with WM6's SD encryption capabilities.
No worries Sleuth, apologies. It got crazily out of hand, I thought my posts were pretty low key. Sorry.
Anyway, I hope you don't mind me reposting some of the relevant info minus the BS. I think it has merit.
As stated, I still think WM6 is not ready for an environment where high reliability is required.
The latest WM5 AT&T ROM works flawlessly with MS Push for all 35 of our 8525 users. It does not stop syncing.
I have tried most current WM6 ROMS and MS Push will occasionally stop syncing at some point we find.
We are a large corporation and tested the 8525s thoroughly for MS Push before dumping Goodlink and moving to MS. We still have 250 Blackberries in the UK which will also be migrating to MS push/Hermes. (MS did it like they always do, take someone else's idea, offer it free and wipe out the competition!)
I'm not implying the official AT&T ROM is perfect, far from, the one big bug is that PIE will stop showing pages and device then needs a reboot.
But the killer app for us is MS Push and that works as we need it to.
Thus, I am hoping that the official HTC/Dopod WM6 ROM does indeed work better than the current 'cooked' WM6 roms. Fingers crossed!

Really?! That's good news! Which ROM and what Radio ver?
I find that using EDGE/GPRS and not 3G improves battery life considerably and minimizes the stops in syncing.
Does your WM6 ROM not stop syncing using push at all then?!
I'd really appreciate any info you can give me.
Cheers.
I agree, SD encryption along with remote wipe is a plus.
There is an issue with the RTM CommManager that appears to affect direct push. The WM6 release our execs run pre-dates this. Direct push is completely stable.
That being said, I'd hold on WM6 updates in your case until you get a chance to test the ROM I'm currently working on. I know how to fix the sync bug but have several options. See the latest posts in my current ROM thread (click on my sig) for more information on this.

Thanks for the clean-up Sleuth.
I can confirm that the Sleuth ROM is indeed stable enough for a corporate environment. Looking forward to the next release.

Thanks Sleuth!
Well, am testing the new Dopod ROM. It seems they left the old CommManager in that too, obviously for the reason you just mentioned. I have good hopes for this new ROM.
Thanks again.
Update - so far so good! This Dopod ROM looks promising. have been using all day. No stops in Syncing. Lets see how it pans out when I take the subway home. Always the decider as to whether it will start syncing when I come out.
