Advice on upgrading 8525 from Cingular - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam ROM Development

My boss has the 8525 from Cingular. We recently upgraded it to the latest WM5 rom and the thing works fine, except he can't get his gmail accounts to work anymore. I have a Treo 700wx myself and have messed with it a few times on stuff like this. But what I was wondering what is the most stable WM6 rom out there that we can upgrade to so it resolves that problem, BT problems he has as well?
And is there a way to go back to the original ROM? I can't seem to find a download of it anywhere. Thanks!

you might want to start reading here: and here
its imperative that you read through this very important links not unless you want to end up with an expensive paper weight.
also, before somebody starts to flame you with your "whats the best ROM question" (it has been covered here a million times) it really depends on what you want. again you need to patiently search through the forums for your answers. it definitely is there.. good luck..

I have been searching for the past 2 hrs trying to figure out what ROM. There are so many I can not figure out which one to get. From people who have tried them I want to know for a CFO of the company which one is the most stable and works with AT&T. And how can I go back to the original ROM. Anyone have that ROM upgrade/downgrade available?

dude, you gotta read each ROM's thread... and see what people are saying about it... if it is a hermes rom then it will work for AT&T .. and you can ALWAYS go back to the original ROM by going to www.htcamerica.net and downloading it and installing it.

How was your boss accessing his gmail accounts prior to the WM5 upgrade?
i.e.
-Pocket Outlook
-the web (www.gmail.com)
-gmail java client
-Exchange Server (Google Apps)

Seriously, I have been testing most WM6 roms posted on this site for the same reasons. Our whole company uses 8525s.
I would NOT recommend ANY of them for corporate use. Let alone for my boss!
Wait for the 'official' Dopod 838Pro ROM out tomorrow.

Yeah, I'm sure it'll be ready for prime time alright, especially for use with AT&T.
Seriously though, what are you people smoking when it comes to the fervor over this impending "official release"? I believe I'm having iPhone deja vu...

My 2 cents
Well the original poster was asking about what the best ROM was. I've tried a few of the WM6 ROMs and at least my 2 cents, the best has been vp3G's 2.01h. I had issues with the keys not lining up with othe versions - though was able to fix them with a patch. Also, vp3G's version has the data connections configured for AT&T - though you could possibly do that manually with other ROMs. I did have to install the other Cingular apps like MobiTV and XM radio that wasn't included in his ROM.
Before I upgraded to vp3G's ROM (I didn't keep the other WM6 ROMs for very long so I can't speak to their stability), but on the 2.15 "official HTC" upgrade for the 8525, I was resetting my phone daily - some days multiple times - but I seldom have to reset my phone now. Bluetooth also has improved. I have a logitech bluetooth stereo adapter which was hit or miss before when I tried to sync the two. Now it syncs without any issues. There's also the added benefit of a registry editor, as well as addition tweak settings included in the ROM.
Great work vp3G! - got my 3 other friends with 8525's to take the plunge and upgrade as well.

2hrs is not nearly enough.
Try a minimum of 12hrs.

And now you'll need to set aside another 2-4hrs.
Wait until all your symbols are messed up.
(easy fix - but that question gets asked over and over)
If you're like alot of new people here, you will just start a new thread on every possible question you could have.
Happy Learning.

If everything is ok only except his gmail. Please check the gmail setting.
In the gmail setting, there is a "forward & pop", check the pop.

I just pruned the living hell out of this thread to keep it technical. Any more OT crap and I start handing out bans.....
Those of you whose posts were deleted: You've been warned...
geez....

Anyhoo....
I've been running my company's 8525 equipped execs on WM6 for over a month w/o complaints. In fact, they love it. We've also been able to mass upgrade to Office 2K7 because of this since the ROM I'm loading has Mobile Office 2K7 installed and can read native attachments.
We use direct push to Exchange 2k3 currently.
I'm also keeping the security folks at bay with WM6's SD encryption capabilities.

No worries Sleuth, apologies. It got crazily out of hand, I thought my posts were pretty low key. Sorry.
Anyway, I hope you don't mind me reposting some of the relevant info minus the BS. I think it has merit.
As stated, I still think WM6 is not ready for an environment where high reliability is required.
The latest WM5 AT&T ROM works flawlessly with MS Push for all 35 of our 8525 users. It does not stop syncing.
I have tried most current WM6 ROMS and MS Push will occasionally stop syncing at some point we find.
We are a large corporation and tested the 8525s thoroughly for MS Push before dumping Goodlink and moving to MS. We still have 250 Blackberries in the UK which will also be migrating to MS push/Hermes. (MS did it like they always do, take someone else's idea, offer it free and wipe out the competition!)
I'm not implying the official AT&T ROM is perfect, far from, the one big bug is that PIE will stop showing pages and device then needs a reboot.
But the killer app for us is MS Push and that works as we need it to.
Thus, I am hoping that the official HTC/Dopod WM6 ROM does indeed work better than the current 'cooked' WM6 roms. Fingers crossed!

Really?! That's good news! Which ROM and what Radio ver?
I find that using EDGE/GPRS and not 3G improves battery life considerably and minimizes the stops in syncing.
Does your WM6 ROM not stop syncing using push at all then?!
I'd really appreciate any info you can give me.
Cheers.
I agree, SD encryption along with remote wipe is a plus.

There is an issue with the RTM CommManager that appears to affect direct push. The WM6 release our execs run pre-dates this. Direct push is completely stable.
That being said, I'd hold on WM6 updates in your case until you get a chance to test the ROM I'm currently working on. I know how to fix the sync bug but have several options. See the latest posts in my current ROM thread (click on my sig) for more information on this.

Thanks for the clean-up Sleuth.
I can confirm that the Sleuth ROM is indeed stable enough for a corporate environment. Looking forward to the next release.

Well, am testing the new Dopod ROM. It seems they left the old CommManager in that too, obviously for the reason you just mentioned. I have good hopes for this new ROM.
Thanks again.

Update - so far so good! This Dopod ROM looks promising. have been using all day. No stops in Syncing. Lets see how it pans out when I take the subway home. Always the decider as to whether it will start syncing when I come out.

WM2005 sucks?

Looks like wm2005 still not very stable, a lot of programs still not working.
For example, Xbackup, set as ringtone or Monster Chinese, etc.
well alot of programs required new versions when 2003SE came out as well

Using it on my Imate for a month or more and no problem so far and no lock-ups like there were on WM2003SE
I think the title of this thread is misleading... :?
The fact that it does not run several applications or crashes is because:
1.- This version is not final
2.- It's not compatible because of it's very nature, IT'S A NEW OS!!!
The same happened when we upgraded our PCs to Windows XP don't you remember?
New versions will start to come up eventually, and even if you don't see any advances "right-out-of-the-box" it's because the main improvements on this OS reside behind the scenes, so Programmers will start to develop new and exciting apps that take advantage of the new features and APIs.
For me Windows Mobile 5.0 has been very stable even with the very first version that Buzz, Toe and the gang which had very limited memory resources I had no stability problems whatsoever.
There are limitations of course, (like no MMS, mediocre video camera, sms problems, etc) but eventually Microsoft OR our very own developers will take care of that!
So, BE PATIENT!!!!!
Hi,
Using it for 3 days in my Qtek 2020 and no problem at all.
Even Jabra250 works fine, when in 2003SE was difficult to setup.
About software that don't work, we must wait until new versions come out...
I'm sure when you update you computer from NT to W2K you has software that didn't work and had to buy new versions, so why should be different here?
Be patient.... Mobile5 is ok for now.

i double that
Rayan & all the rest are right!!!
I can't agree less to what Rayan wrote.
It's a new OS and a beta for that matter (check out Goras thread on "WM2005 that I can share"), If I'm not mistaken it's not also intended for Himalaya, judging on the memory problems just solved(!) by Buzz, toenailed, XdaJojo, mamaich & all the other contributors as well.
Personally in my opinion its a lot 'solid' than the WM2003 & SE since it has to crash yet on my xda II, as mentioned by Rayan even the initial release of the OS with limited memory was stable.
The problems with the apps like backup & camera are being solved one-by-one, MMS which doesn't even start before is now working (check out the threads on WM2005 in the forum).
Even now, the benefits of using the OS in terms of performance, stability & looks far outweighs its limitations (in my humble opinion) just be patient & leave it to the WIZARDS (Buzz, toenailed, XdaJojo, etc. etc. etc).
Besides, hey ttseng this is the xda-developers forum & we all are having fun testing, tweaking, & breathing new life to our "soon to be outlawed" XDA II ....... if not for the WIZARDS in the forum !!!!! Notice the request for the OS on the other xda models, aren't we lucky we have the WiZARDS working on the HIMA?
Cheers!
works flawlessly on XDA2 Himalaya!!!!!!!!
best os and most stable one ive come across ,wm200se never really happy but this WM2005 is and has been stable without a single hard reset or rest since install.even self configured the o2email and hotmail!! took the o2 uk config & connections setup file from a XDA2s_1-12-178-WWE_UK_Extended_ Rom.
Is there more than one version of WM2005 kicking about?
I successfully installed WM2005 on my XDA II, but I couldn't get many 3rd party apps to install on it. So I was surprised to see screenshots with certain utilities running ok.
I was wondering if there is more than one version of it floating about on the net. The one I installed was found on these forums, but I have recently downloaded another off usenet.
They are both himalaya.
I am sure a non-beta copy will rear its head on here sooner rather than later (I hope!)
Cam
this version is in the ftp section ,the rom has a file name of
wm2k5_XDA2_HIMALAYA_O2_fullRAM.rar
Yep!
That's the one!
That would make both copies I have the same.
Is this a late BETA or even an RTM version?
Now that the OS has been officially released I am guessing it's a race for someone to post the released version ;-)
the official full version is released?
wow!
so when can we have it for download here?
i am planning to put off my upgrade till the full version comes out.
currently i am on the win2003se which i aint very happy with!
plz advise...
thanx everybody.
It out but you cant get it.
I have a friend who is a manger in Microsoft. I sent the MS link of the offical release and asked if it can be obtained from the internal web software store. At the moment it cant and I feel it will also never be the case (2003 the end user could never buy).
So we are back to the carriers and if they will ship 2005 as an upgrade for ood devices or only on new (MDA XDA IV).
Dont think one needs to be a rocket scintist to answer that, was not one of the devices never shipped with 2003, the way I remember it it was buz that did a Chines to English translation.
So at least w on the BA side have to wait untill something gets leaked.
A little help with WM2005 upgrade please!!!!!!!
I see that most people have upgraded to WM2005 without much trouble, but not me!! I am with o2 and I've just upgraded and I can't us GPRS (it keeps trying to dial 193.113.200.195 and then drops the conx even though the IP is entered in the APN section) I can't run Worldmate pro (not compatable), TOMTOM 3 (need to upgrade to ver 4.4) pick up email etc etc.
Could I have the details that you need to enter into your XDA to connect to o2 network via GPRS so that I can access hotmail, messenger, MMS, Internet etc etc
I hope you can help as I don't want to downgrade to the old windows version.
i can send u a O2 customisation cab file if u need ,however your phone must b on contract with O2UK not payg or orange etc..
Yes Please!!
That'll be great. yes I am with O2 contract.......
where is the awesome rom !!! please
iam running w2005 in my XD2..but still MANY applications cant be installed..and i was surprised to see the screenshot (above) with many applications runing ..BUT i couldnt find the ROM...i found only the one for XDA2s..."XDA2s_1-12-178-WWE_UK_Extended_ Rom" actually is a zipped file with no rom inside..just many cab files ..can anyone help me please...thanks guys

LVSW Whitescreen... the truth

OK, the LVSW ROM was deliberately built with the faulty tadzio toolchain in order to prevent people editing it, and I'm pretty sure this is also the reason it's causing issues with the new SPLs... therefore, I can only suggest everyone avoid LVSWs releases till he uses the new toolchain.
jasjamming's ROMs are a good alternative and are recommended.
Good info!!
Somehow LVSW's edition runs SPB without an issue. I like SPB Pocket Plus, weather and Shell, but it wont run smooth under Black edition.... Hope the next release improves...
Hmm that sounds kinda messed up...
I like both ROMs...honestly I just want a "clean" ROM where I can add all my stuff...
Black is nice but I think its loaded with too much stuff I don't use...like vjtools and such (tho they are nice, it sure makes a mess out of my programs screen).
I'm just waiting for 2.0 so I can use Live Messenger again ^_^
Just my 2 cents

The 0326 LVSW edition can be edited with no problem. I use 0326 LVSW as a based and cooked a few roms and flashed/booted with no problems.
@akarandomjames
Yeah I agree... Right now I'm using LVSW because it's the cleanest I can get: only the useful hacks have been done (especially the last version), no adding useless programs. I tried 3DES yesterday as well but definitely too many programs there. The BIG problem I have with LVSW is that I can't find IP telephony, which is and should remain a part of WM6.
But I agree, what I would love is a ROM that has the problems and bugs of WM6 worked out (like LVSW), so that I don't need to touch the registry (actually I do, but that's only because I'm adding Japanese input and removing the others) or install any hacks. AND this ROM should keep the features of basic WM6 (IP telephony, like Black or 3DES). AND this ROM shouldn't add any programs! I mean whenever I install Linux on my computer, I choose what programs I want. I don't want to get programs which I can't even erase!
This sounds like a lot of complaining, and I'm sorry it does, but I think it's more of a critic that these cooked ROMs are getting already too bloated. It's a typical Geek/Engineer problem to want to add as many features as possible in one package... But let people choose by letting them install the programs they really want.
I'm sure the answer could be "cook your own ROM"! And I guess I will. But right now I don't have time... just starting to work, moving to Japan in 10 days, etc. busy busy... And I respect, admire, and love the work the ROM cookers are doing. You're incredible, guys!
Yannick
As I understand it and please correct me if I'm wrong (will help me avoid a blind alley) The basic WM6 OS with HTC drivers and apps could be included in the main rom and then all the fancy bits that we may or may not need/want included in the extended rom. Then those who don't want it need not install it and either can install the bits they do want the hard way or if they feel brave can cook there own extended rom so hard resets only need a quick resync...

Disagree.
I'm using LVSW since some days without any problems and as far as I remember the white screen is also reported with jasjamming's black edition, for instance here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1198178&postcount=950
But maybe I'm just a lucky guy without troubles and the problem described in the link above is a different one
Nonetheless I'm waiting for kyphurs new rom, hope he will release it within the next week.
Damn, and just after I decide to go to LVSW yesterday (I was still on XDA Live 0.10).
I think, thanks to the RUU Wrapper and Hard SPL I avoided any issues with the white screen (fingers crossed) - so thanks for that - but I'm definitely waiting for XDA 0.30 and hopefully a cab for Windows Live as Black doesn;t really suit me.
Agree with gerald_s. Same here. No issues at all with either of the 2{5,6}/03 versions. Maybe this comes down to hardware differences (i.e. G3/G4 DOC flash etc.). My JASJAM is a recent one, S/N HT649.
No problems with a HTC TyTN and LVSW 20070326. No blank screen at all.
I am also doing well with the ROM and installed SPB Mobile Shell, Pocket Plus, Wather, Palm thresded SMS... all working fine, i need to Hard reset after the ROM flushing as it was requested on the forum..
ey, i noted this....
A week ago + or - i have got upgraded my TyTN to HardSPL 1.10 and the upgraded to LVSW (all the versions, minus 2(5-6)/03) and Black 1.1 & 1.2 and when take a look to info 8 have no bad block in any case.
Yesterday upgrade to HardSPL 1.40, and before upgrade to LVSW 26/03 take a look to info 8, and bad blocks appears (3 bad blocks). Then upgrade to LVSW 26/03 and works fine, all working good, no problem at all.
Regards.
jasjamming has been doing some tests, it looks like there may be further issues even with the newer versions. watch this space.

I wasn't complaining about space...I actually just want something as close to an "original WM6" as I can get.
So I ran LSVW's and soft reset right after setting up my device so none of that 3 second crap was installed...installed fixes and tweaks myself...and everything is running fine.

WM6 vs. WM5

I'm ready to upgrade/flash my Dash, but just wondering, what exactly is the upside of WM6? I'm happy to be an early adopter and all that, but what will I notice to be improved?
if you haven't read every thread posted here about wm6 then you aren't ready to install it yet.
there are quite a few important changes you need to make imediately after installing.
the main advantages for me are the email enhancements and xt9 staying off pemanently. it also looks prettier. windows live seems to work better as well.
oh and the early adopters downloaded and installed it a month ago

I have the files on my PC ready to go but I'm still using WM5 because I don't want my device phoning Microsoft or T-Mobile with my IMEI or other information. While you can disable it, the idea that your device phone's home should be kind of scary to you. Also, its BETA. I don't want my phone going crazy while I am on the road and I need it most.
JAmerican
its more then just html but that is nice.
you have the option to send mail when you hit send instead of having to hit send/receive as well.
you can keep mail on the server when you delete off the phone.
delete is moved to the left softkey instead of having to go into the menu.
I'm using WM6 on two devices, and although I wouldn't go back to the previous version, WM6 is JUST LIKE WM5. It's just that the majority of the applications have something or another that makes it that much more usable.
What I mean is, there are quite a few little features (and a couple additional applications) that make it an "upgrade." It's just like how WM5 was an upgrade to WM2003. It isn't an upgrade as much as it's update, if that makes any sense...
I'm pretty sure WM6 doesn't "phone home" or anything. I imagine this would have been found out by this point.
installation process
But, it sounds like upgrading is a whole lot more complicated than just running RUU_Excalibur... on my unlocked T-Mobile Dash. I then have to do a bunch of other mysterious steps?

You could write one...
I am using WM6 since first HERMES build appear.
PRO
Faster
Nice grafic presentation
Some applets (office mobile for smartphone could be one)
Windows LIVE (but is also available ad WM5 add-on)
CON
Is at least a RTM bur still some beta's DLL and drivers are out, meaning unpredictable results with some appz
No big improvements, I am using smartphone notes and documents to go and I HAVE a better office sute, having even some PPT editing, nice word usability and formatting
Needs to be patched just to work normally
HTML e-mail works ONLY with exchange server 2007
Conclusion
The Excalibur HTC ROM is fast and stable (we are talking STABLE in terms of a windows system ). Documents to go is much better than WM6 office, no compatibility for both with office 2007 doc formats, nothing really improved having the WM6 Rom at this stage .
WM6 is a MS business to boost VISTA compatibility and exchange server 2005 sales (all important new features are available ONLY uif you use exchange server 2005)
From user point of view better graphic is the only real enhancement
WM6 really shines when you are a corporate user with Exchange 2007 airsync. You have stuff like rights management, sharepoint proxy, calendaring enhancements and better office integration (with lates office clients you can also use new formats). There is much more info on the M$FT website.

Which ROM (already read about them yet questions linger)

So i have a att 8525 and for the past month or so been reading here and HOFO and 4winmobile and mrvanx about the rom updates. I feel confident in my ability to update but i am really unsure as what some main differences are between all of the many different versions. At first i was sure to go with Black but now after looking LVSW, Faria and ELF. I have read what they offer but i dont really get whats the big differences between them. I notice a big "selling" point is the amount of ram available for use. I DO want WM6, a few things that i need are good BT support, WIFI, 3G/data connection, my Exchange direct push to work, Remote Desktop and easy dialing (like the HTC smart dialer). So do any of these really meet my needs? i know thats a loaded question but i just cant seem to be able to differentiate between them. Thanks for any help that you can give.

My suggestion is to try them and stick with the one that most support your needs.

You say you don't want WM6, so then none of the mentioned ROMS will meet your needs as they are all WM6. This is the WM6 forum. Check here http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=306 for discussions about the latest WM5 ROMS.
You say you dont WM6....
but you want a good Remote Desktop client and Good bluetooth support....
both reside in WM6 and not in WM5
As i edited in my post i made a typo i do want WM6. Sorry for any confusion again.

I agree with arluckett2002, try some out.
I personally recommend the Elf, because he cooks with the ExtROM, leaving you the ability to remove unwanted apps and is built on LVSW core (very stable). It is sort of a combination between a clean fast & sleek rom, with the added benefits of some apps. But, you can remove them if you want.
Most of the rom's are good now, it is a matter of trial & error and style preference.
There is no way you get everything you want in a rom (unless you cook your own). Get the closes one (or a basic one and add the programs you need). In my experience with a Hermes phone, LVSW is the most stable. ELF which uses LVSW is almost as good as LVSW.
I update programs as they become available.

I always had this question... If a program is installed while the ROM is being upgraded (it is part of and packaged with the rom), and a new version of the application is available, can we upgrade the application without losing precious storage/program memory? Or will the upgrade disable the "read only" older version and install the new version as if it is a new application?
Good Question!!!

My understanding is that the new program will place new copies of it's files over the ones in ROM, thereby sort-of deactivating the ROM-based one, but now taking up twice the amount of space ... and if you uninstall it, you should be left with the old copy.
However, if the uninstall removes registry settings, the ROM-based one might not work anymore. I know I've "overwritten" certain files in the /Windows folder, and when I delete them, the old ROM-based ones are again visible.
Again, this is MY understanding, and I may be wrong. I would LOVE to know the truth from somebody who's a real genius with this stuff. We have soem true geniuses here, so maybe one of them can confirm or deny what I've written here.

is VP3G's version relatively stable?

So, based on your answer, the best rom currently available (at least in relation to memory) should be the Elf, since he installs all programs in ExtROM using CAB files, which can be uninstalled / overwritten etc, without taking up twice the amount of memory in case of a program update. Agree?

No, not neccesarily. There are several very clean ROMs to choose from, as well, where you can simply add what you want, period. And several only have some limited apps built in, that provide some extra functionality, and will probably not be upgraded, or you can live with the versions that are already installed. The question is best answered by each user and his/her subjective needs and desires.
On top of that, you must think about the quality of support that the cook is willing/able to provide. If you are a newbie, you would probably do best to steer away from the Elf and Black versions, since their authors are somewhat lacking in patience, although I must admit, they are extremely talented with the technology.
You really need to measure it all out from several different angles, and in the long run, only you can decide which is best for you.

VP3G v2 rom
I have been running VP3G's v2 hybrid rom for about a week. only issues i had after flashing was i needed the cingular settings cab file to configure everything that i didn't want to manually add myself. i'm still looking for the smart dialer cab that i found on here awhile back but other than that it's got everything you need, it's stable, and very fast. tomtom 6 works great with it as does any of my bluetooth devices. exchange direct push works well though i find that sometimes the phone doesn't sync cahnges back to the exchange server. so far it's the best rom i've tried for wm6. oh yah.. i'm running an ATT 8525 on ATT's network.
Damn talking about bring the thread back to life, haha. I am actually currently running VP3G v2.0.1H also. VP3G has the cingular settings build in, did that not work for you? it worked great for me. It works perfect for all my BT devices and i have no had any issues with the exchange DP. so definitely my favorite rom so far.

It will overwrite the current file, it won't take up more space.
Maybe I'm getting to old for this but seriously how many times a month does this question need to be asked and answered?????

Problems with new WM6 Official or "When is WM6 becoming a reality?"

Hi folks,
Really... I don't know about everyone else but I'm getting really pissed with the general usability of WM6! There is no single ROM that would just offer all the bits and pieces of a full working, polished, feature complete WM6 implementation.
I've been trying all available ROM images (Pdaviet, Mun's, Dopod Official etc) and up to now I haven't been able to find a single solution that would "just work".
On the new Official ROM there is no VOIP support (SIP is nowhere to be found), my Memory-Stick (4gb SDHC) becomes inaccessible from time to time, all the filenames start showing up as strange characters strings and it only goes back to normal after a soft-reset.
I'm sure your mileage may vary but up to now I've had no luck with WM6. Sure it is faster than WM5 but as a software engineer I would not consider it as being more than a beta quality release.
So... any thoughts on:
- Is it possible to get SIP working on WM6?
- Is it possible to get Video calling working?
- What about a stable memory card? (Yes, I've tried TrinityHack)
Best,
M Addario

Yes... I know... My questioning is more on "why in hell is an official ROM allowed out when it seems clearly not ready for the end user". Even if there is a way of fixing all the mentioned problems I strongly feel that such basic, obvious things, shouldn't be broken to start with, at least on an official release.
I just hope Mun's Indigo comes as a final solution.
:/
Would it not be better if like the Open Source Community we concentrate our efforts on a single ROM that is considered a good quality base and then improve that to the stage of a polished ROM? At the moment I would vote for:
HTC_Trinity_3.00.07.09.PV.rar
as it is updated more frequently than most. Also we can then add custom packs to the ROMs which people can download e.g.
Base WM6 Rom version (continually updated by the community with minimal pro grammes, whereby each version addresses fixes)
Pack 1 - Office 2007 Apps (6.1)
Pack 2 - 3rd Party Tools e.g. Sprite Backup etc.
Pack 3 - Customizations etc.
You get the picture...

dear friend, no offence to you, the cookers in xda-dev are doing it out of passion and for the benefit of fellow recipients like me. Of course they have their own preferences and flavors. if you would like to have YOUR-ALL-IN-ONE, then i think the best way is for you to cook one yourself. if not, then live with what's available. The official-official dopod rom is out for download on the OFFICIAL HTC WEBSITE. i am sure you can find some mirror sites for download.
Keeping it simple...

You see.... I totally get what you mean. Though I don't think that the way to go would be necessarily concentrating on a single ROM version but rather in keeping each one "clean". By that I mean the current biggest problem with all the cooked versions (in my view) is exactly that each developer does what he thinks is best, adding and removing stuff at his will... well... of course they are doing it and they feel like doing it the way they please but when it comes to please everyone else it is almost impossible to keep this track.
It would be SO MUCH easier if the ROMs were provided in the cleanest possible way and alongside with them a pack of CAB files that you could use to add the features you fancy.
By the way... I just noticed that using X-Button to close any app accessing my SDHC memory card causes it to go totally nuts... If I just leave them open everything is OK so it is if I use other task manager to close them (that is using the latest official dopod ROM).
Best,

I think I just spoke too early :/ Just left the device alone for a couple of minutes (without closing any app) and when I got back to it the memory card was inaccessible again... F*£!$&@ this :/ Damn...

If you are a software engineer why dont you make your own rom how you want it. I appreciate the fact that there are developers here that make great roms and then share with the rest of the community.
I´ve also been noting that battery consumption is still crappy...
Yesterday evening I fullt charged the battery, today I have: watched a 1 hour video with Coreplayer using original headphones, made a 8 min. phonecall over normal GSM network, installed (tried to install ) comm managers and dialpads, soft resetted about 5 times and surfed the web for about half an hour. Now I have one bar left on my battery meter...
Is this normal? It seems a very short battery life for me...
IMO the official ROM is ridiculously unstable. A2DP is pure crap, WMP crashes randomly, phone will freeze randomly, ISP settings disappearing after soft reset, general slowness in GPS apps like Navigon, Destinator, IMO lower call quality; just to name a few. I did not have any of these problems with AX3L's ROM or any of the "unofficial" ROMs. I'm flashing back to AX3L's ROM tonight as the crap A2DP is inexcusable!
I'm using Dopod SEA and it has no problems
Hello,
I'm using Dopod ANZ and it has no problems.
But one question for the ANZ Radio :1.46.30.11 what is the difference with the SEA Radio (1.46.0.11) ??
Private69.
@++++
I have a problem with SEA ROM... Caller ID (Name) not detected at all... Only Caller number appear on the screen... Any help?
I had to revert back to AXEL's ROM because of all the freezing the 'official' ROM did to my phone.

I use the Australian ROM and am happy with its functionality. It does exactly what was expected, considering it is really WM5 with a few enhancements. I think its easy to criticise WM6 for what it doesn't have, but perhaps you should look at the improvements that have been made from previous versions.
Granted there aren't that many (HTML mail probably being the one significant update) but Microsoft doesn't really have any comparable competition with the PDA/Phone market at the moment. Perhaps Apple might inject a bit of competition into it with the iPhone.
