I flash the jasjar's rom on the MDA Pro. but unfortunately, I have lost the ability of connecting to the internet through 3G/UMTS (the settings are gone).
Can someone post the settings of T-Mobile MDA PRO UK to connect to 3G network? (Normally automatically being chosen when there's no wifi around).
Anyone has the settings??
Called 150 and get their customer service.
The scary thing is.. the 40MB that I get on Web n Walk is only with the use of GPRS. Not 3G.
I repeat, GPRS not UMTS.
Back to the main question, who has the 3G settings?
I was advised to use the settings provided for WAP because "3G is expensive" (I quote from the guy who talked to me).
All:
I just got a Cingular 8525 and immediately upgraded it to WM6 (it had WM5 on it for about an hour). I am in a 3g covered area but I do not think I am getting a 3g connection on the phone. I have the big upper case U in a box, and then I have the signal indicator with an E over it. This makes me believe that I am connected to Cingular's edge network. Also, if I am on the phone and I try to run a sync with activesync the phone tells me that I have a voice call in progress. Any suggestions? AT&T support was clueless.

The U indicator is UMTS - that is 3G. However, most of the newer ROMs replace it with a 3G icon. What ROM did you use? Anyway, also, you may try the reg tweak to enable the BAND tab in the Settings > Phone menu. You can find that tweak in the wiki.

I have the same thing with my rogers phone, what I'm guessing is the phone is designed to pick whatever signal is strongest, (which is usually Edge) and not often-rescan for UTMS/3G.
If you google and download Band Switcher, you can force UTMS/3G at your leisure.
I wasnt aware the USA had 3G yet? I was always told that Edge was the best they had out there from a few mobile operators in the UK.
What Radio stack are you using?
Cingular, now known as "The New AT&T (AT&T)" has 3G up and running in some of it's markets.
No one seems to be answering this question.

We have quite a bit of UMTS and HSDPA coverage here in Massachusetts on Cingular/AT&T.

Cell tower based location - poor man's GPS
Has anyone managed to get the new "My Location" feature working on their Excalibur? I have an S621 running Rogers' WM6 on Rogers network, and it doesn't work. At the bottom of the Help/About screen, it says "myl: N/A"
Anyone had success with any other OS builds and/or networks? It's supposed to support "most Windows Mobile devices". Is it the device that's not compatible, or is the network not sending cell tower info?
Works On T-Mobile's Network Perfect

Works Like a charm, on T-Mobile's network, it gives me my location to a "T", and got the blinking light too, poor man's GPS........!(lol)
work with dopod c720w roger wm6 rom
work very well on my dopod C720w. i use roger wm6 rom with singtel in singapore.
it works well if you've previously used it with a gps at your location. As soon as you move you'll find the accuracy goes way off.
doesn't seem to work in Ottawa Ont on the rogers network. I made a couple of calls to make sure there was a recent connect to a tower...no luck.
Worse than not working
Not only did the My location feature not work for me on my Dash running the T-mobile WM6 ROM but it crashed my Dash. I had to hard reset, and it took a few tries to get the phone to hard reset successfully.
Works fine for me on T-Mobile in the states -- thought I read initially that the current release for just for the U.S.A. ...?
Works very well in Kitchener on Rogers/Fido network. My actual location was within the blue circle.
Good way to find out where the towers are too.
I've never used GPS on my excalibur, and it works perfectly fine for me.

I test in Singtel mobile in Singapore and AIS in Bangkok Thailand. Both works OK.
It worked perfect for me...maybe a little too perfect. It said that it could find me within 1700 meters of my actual location, and it did.
Did not work
I have a US tmo unlocked and setup for US att network. I get "error: connecterror [183]". Nothing on google seems to tell me what this is. I can go send/receive calls, go online and receive mms (following att setup per this sites board), but it always gives this error at load. Take sim out, same error, as if the software sees no connection settings when sim inserted. Ideas?
WTF I keep getting location currently unavailable. Whether it be in NYC, Connecticut or Rochester, NY. (T-Mobile Dash)
um the problem might be that you do not have a data plan or what not... or maybe you are not near a cell tower I am guessing... trying moving around or maybe try it next time you go to the mall or shopping (somewhere further from your house).
Me too
I just tried it on my Dash running AT&T's EDGE (US). I got a location that was supposed to be accurate to 2.1 Kilometers. It was closer to a kilometer. Not quite GPS accurate, but hopefully it should be nice next time I'm trying to help a friend navigate around Philly or some other big city I don't know my way around.
SurrealNetworks App Unlock
Hey guys all you need for google map "My location" to work on your T-Mobile dash you must app unlock your device with an application called SurrealNetworks App Unlock
This is the link where you can download the application.
http://www.mobile.surrealnetworks.com/AppUnlockReg.htm
Once you install this program my location should work perfectly, because this is what I did and it been working great on my Dash...

I had the same issue when I was on WiFi and was connected to my wireless router. Then when I turned it off and went for a drive it worked.
I honestly think this is useless unless your in a brand new city. I disabled this feature because it wasn't helpful in telling me were I was exactly. I'd rather take the 15 seconds and type the intersection in rather than the 25 seconds of looking around to see where I am according to the map.
Usually its more than 1700 meters for me. At one time it was in the wrong town.
Using a Rogers S621 w/Rogers WM6 ROM and My Location won't work.
amazing, it works !
Roger User Here - Works Perfectly Including MyLocation but it's inaccurate. it's very close to where i am but still not right - i guess you don't get everything you want lol
I live in the UK, and am using a foreign version of a TP2 that I bought on eBay. I think it's probably the Hong Kong version - it's in English, but with support for Chinese characters on the keyboard.
Something I do fairly regularly is switch between 2G and 3G modes on my TP2 manually. I've created a start-menu short-cut to CMBandSwitching.exe which lets me change the phone's Band setting between "Auto", "GSM" and "WCDMA". My somewhat limited understanding of these settings is that "GSM" basically means "2G", and "WCDMA" basically means "3G". When I set the phone to "GSM" it picks up GPRS or EDGE signals (according to the status bar). When I set it to "WCDMA" it picks up HDSPA or 3G signals (if there are any). What I thought "Auto" mode did was simply switch automatically between 3G and 2G mode depending on 3G signal strength - so that if there's a 3G signal it uses that, if not, it uses 2G.
However, it seems like there may be slightly more to it than that. If I have the phone in GSM mode at home and search for available networks, it finds O2, T-Mobile, Vodafone and Orange (in that order - does that mean O2's signal is the strongest, or does it put it at the top of the list because I have an O2 SIM?) In WCDMA mode it only finds O2, which would suggest that O2 is the only 3G signal that can be picked up in my home (and even that's pretty weak ). However, if I set the phone to Auto, then search for networks, then it also starts to get a signal from the 3 network and lists all 5 carriers - in other words, in Auto mode it finds a signal which is not visible in either GSM or WCDMA mode. This suggests that Auto may be doing something else besides switching between 2G and 3G. Can anyone explain this?
Also, if O2 is the only network it can find when set to "WCDMA" does this mean that O2's is the only 3G signal I can receive?
Finally, there are four possible frequency settings in the lower part of the BandSwitching app. These are:
Auto
GSM(900+1800)+UMTS(900+2100)
GSM(1900+850)+UMTS(1900+850)
UMTS(2100+800)
Which is the best setting for UK use? I'm currently using the second one, and it seems to work okay, but would I gain anything by switching it to "Auto"? And can someone give me an idea of which areas in the world I could get decent 2G or 3G reception with that selection of settings available?
(bump)
No one...?
I'm using their PAYG sim which gives a free 150mb allowance for 90 days, but am only ever able to connect via GPRS (my phone says I am roaming as well for some reason). Is anybody else using this sim and able to receive 3G?
yes indeed.
Three don;t have the 3G coverage of the other networks, and so they use Orange as a backup network when you are in an area that does not have any of their own transmitters. Seems you might be in such an area, which is why it says you are roaming cos you're actually on Orange!
Make sure you are not stuck in 2G only mode of course.....
dial *#*#4636#*#*
select phone information
slide down to the bottom, abnd make sure the first menu box is set to WCDMA preferred, and not GSM only.
Thanks for the information, thought this might be the case but wasn't sure. The phone was already set to WCDMA Preferred so I guess GPRS is the best I'm going to get from Three Mobile for the time being.
Thanks also for letting me know how to access the testing screens, lots of good info there!
no probs, here to help.....when i'm in a good mood and not at work of course
