How to enable GPS with HTC p3600 - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

hi
How to enable the GPS with HTC P3600 my ROM IS 1.17.415.3
THANKS FOR HELP

rom upgrades, either here or from htc itself if it is really an HTC-branded device

from where can i have the recent rom

Lol I wish we could just enable GPS in Touch like we can in Trinity....
There is hidden quad-band but I doubt there is GPS in my Touch.
And as for the ROM, you can get it from the HTC site.

please can any body send me the link
thanks

Just go safe for a start...
Hello, I guess you must be kidding since you already have 81 post, I don't think you are so unaware of Trinity stuffs...
Anyway, in case your request was serious, here below is the HTC club's registration link.
You just register, and then using your IMEI number, you just download the suitable GPS enabled rom for your device, according to your brand or unbrand, and your geographic area.
Just go safe and start using GPS with a safe official rom.
When you feel more confident, you'll find plenty of wm6 rom on this forum, cooked or rebuilt.
http://www.htc.com/support/support_htcp3600.htm

thank u very much for your reply
yes i am old in the forums but with my old imate pda2k i got this HTC only 2 days ago.
the second thing i already registered in the HTC club and added the IMEI of my HTC but they informed me that there is no new updates for it
any idea
thanks

update your signature with your new phone details
No problem, my pleasure to help in the extend of my limited knowledge.
OK, let's start from the beginning:
could you update your signature in order to let us know which version of rom, radio, protocole etc. you're running.
And can you tell also in which area you bought your device, this will decide which rom you can safely flash your phone with.
But what I can already understand from what you are saying is that your present rom is already up to date and fully GPS enabled like every rom since april/may 2007, and even earlier for some branded releases of the Trinity, like dopod in Asia (february 2007) or Vodaphone (march 2007).
What you need now is two steps:
1) first of all make the settings icon of GPS showing up in your settings/connexions tab.
(there is a registry tweak to do that, or more simple, just use trinityhacks v0.3 that you can find by making a search on this forum)
2) find an application that uses GPS:
tomtom navigator, gps tuner etc.
You can try a free one for a start: GPS Test, that you can find by using google.

thank you for your help
from my new signature u can know now that i still have old rom that is not supporting GPS.
i bought my HTC from saudi arabia
i know that there is update to my rom as i contacted HTC support and they already inform me that i have an update but when i put my IMEI number in the support site they informed me that there is no update rom suites my version

I've got the whole picture now...
OK
1) your rom, radio rom etc. are too old to activate the GPS on your device
So you'll need not only an OS upgrade, but also a radio rom one.
2)
to go safe and use a rom that is allowed by your device's CID, you'll need an English ROM, unbranded, for HTC P3600.
The GPS enabled version of ROM is 1.23.X.X for the ROM, and 1.38.X.X for the radio.
You can find a link on this forum (rapidshare, megaupload etc. for en official English rom of that type.
I'll also have a look for you. I could upload my old ROM for you, but no luck, it's a French one, so not compatible with your CID.
3) if you are brave enough (but it's all under your own responsibility if you brick your device...) you can try that too:
- use 'trinity unlock' or 'SPL_trin' or the new one 'olibro'that you can find on this forum to allow other brands ROM installation.
- flash your device with the official dopod ROM SEA for South-East-Asia in English (that I am running myself at the moment).
I suggest you use the one without radio, spl-ipl, extended rom.
It's safe since there is no risk of conflict with your present device locks.
- then you upgrade your radio with radio 1.46.X.X also from the Dopod's ROM.
This is what I've done, without all the hassles and risks that brings the full ROM update when it's not official HTC P3600 release compatible with your CID.
A thread where they talk about the official upgrade you are looking for, in English:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=299680&highlight=new+HTC+official+WM5+English+ROM
An open link without registration that still works:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/sho...=2&highlight=new+HTC+official+WM5+English+ROM

Here you go for English official
added in my last post

realy many thanks for you
i have downloaded the official rom and the new radio.
i will try to use them
again many thanks for your help

give us some feedback when you can
You're welcome.
It's a pleasure to help.
Don't forget to give us some feedback about your flashing process and result.
Once you've installed the new ROM, use trinityhacks to make the GPS visible and start using it, with 'GPS Test'. The GPS chip is not the fastest, so make sure you are outside, ideally with a good weather and not too many buildings over your head for the first try.

i will
thanks again

hi friend
i did upgrade my HTC P3600 TO
rom version 1.23.405.2
rom date 03/11/07
radio 1.41.00.11
protocol 32.74.7020.18h
extrom 1.23.405.103
BUT I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO NEXT TO USE GPS
I TRIED TO USE TOM TOM NAVIGATOR BUT I GOT AN ERROR MESSAGE THAT THERE IS NO ENOUGHT MEMORRY
THEN I USED OTHER SOFTWARES THAT ALL FAILED TO FIND GPS
THANKS AGAIN

Hello,
nice to hear from you again.
As I told you in my previous post, the first thing to do wasn't to use Tomtom, but to make your GPS show up.
I suggest you first do a hardreset, in order to erase all the GPS softwares installations that you may have failed in the meantime.
1)
For a start, you should have first use Trinityhacks to add the GPS icon in your settings/connexions tab.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=303657&highlight=trinity+hacks
(you could have found it yourself on the forum, by making a keyword search as I just did)
2)
After reboot, U'll see your GPS and check is settings that should GPD1 and most important communication port 9, plus its speed, expressed in bauds.
3)
after that, use a freeware called GPS Test (do a google search, u'll find it) and install it.
It will find itself your GPS on the right port. If it doesn't, just use the settings u've seen in the first step (com port 9 and highest speed you can)
4)
it should show looking for gps and then, gps starting up
it will search for a while before getting the fist lock (fix) on the sattelites)
when it starts, it's written 1D view, but when the fix is done, it will be 3D plus the location of the place where you are.

I suggested you to not start with tomtom from the beginning since it's not the easiest software to use with GPS, at first.
Some versions of tomtom does recognize the internal GPS without any special settings, but some doesnt, so you'll have to choose 'NMEA device' and then set it on the port com number 9.
But, try this freeware called GPS Test first, and tell me what it shows.

dear friend
thank you again for your help
really your are wonderful,
the GPS icon was shown by other way that i could find here in the forums by which i did some registery changes that showed the GPS icon in the connections.so i used this icon to adjust the com port to com 9 and to use intermediate speed.
then i used the navigon 6 program that i found how it use it in details in one Arabic forum
and it worked very nice with me.
i think i will not use tom tom again
thank you very much

Good news, you finally got your GPS up and running. Congrats.
Yes, the registry tweaks do just the same thing, and it's more challenging to do it that way, in the meantime you understand better how your device works.
I suggest (except if you've heard something different from your documentations) that you just let your GPS at its maximum speed, 115 200 bauds.
At the contrary, you can decide for each program using the GPS to set it to the full speed or to just use a part of it, but the GPS itself should be ready to give as much as it can.
I've never tried that software you mentioned. If it works so well, I might give a try sometimes. Thanks for the information.

i was informed to keep the speed at 57600 i will try to make it max
this navigon is simple to be used and a bit lite and has maps for some arabic countries
thanks again

Hi Ivan

Save contact to SIM
I'm using rc1.
Contacts/tapping any contact/Menu/Save to SIM. The last item namely "Save to SIM" is not available (grey color, not black). Looks it's necessary to change a value somewhere in registry, but I did not manage to find what and where.
Does some1 face such problem? Or there is a solution the problem? Does this bug exists in beta8?
Thx in advance
[edit]
yes, "Save to SIM" is active and works.
hi Ivan

I tried to flash de beta8 but i get country ID error 120... i read the readme file and it says:
Q14: I get “error 120: Country id error”, what should I do?
A: It may due to you get the wrong image. Please check your device’s device name and language type and download RUU package from the vender web site again and reset your device and then run RUU again.
Has anybody had this problem..I bought my device as qtek9000 via the official vendor of HTC pda's in Holland... I bought it through my girlfriends telecom company... it comes with WM5.0 UK...
it's not simlocked..of course i just updated the radio rom from 1.9.0 to 1.13 with the tools provided by this forum.

anyone tried this with uk t-mob mda compact iii

heading says it all really - i'm cid locked btw.

Yes, thanks to This thread.
Worth noting again, that first time around under Vista did not work, I had to dig out an XP based PC to re-flash the original T-Mobile UK WM5 ROM. I then ran the procedure a second time under XP and it worked. The OS may or may not have been the factor, first time round might have been something else. XP was required to restore the original ROM.
The update to WM6 was well worth it in my mind even if purely for the instantly noticeable speed increase of the software.
thanks gajet - i'm gettign more and more tempted. one more thing - where could i get hold of the original t-mob uk rom - just for safety.
cheers
si
if its anything like finding a WM5 tmobile NL rom i'll wish you good luck. couldn't find one after bricking my own MDA CIII trying to upgrade it to WM6.
if you brick it your only choice is to wait until the official WM6 release from tmobile UK or send it back to them for repair
hi fout
well looking at gajet's post it seems there is a uk rom out there in the wild - just wondering where i might find it....
si
I actually found you the link in the main WM6 WWE topic, it links directly to the file on rapidshare.
here you go: http://rapidshare.com/files/17854890/art_tmouk_11311001_024990_wwe_ship.exe
and good luck upgrading your device, can't wait until mine gets back
thx fout - i thought i'd seen it somewhere - you found it - cheers!
si
ok guys - i did it! worked first time - heart in mouth for 15 mins but well worth it. got all my apps working no problem and remembered to write down the t-mobile gprs settings for once!
one other benefit for uk t-mob. on web&walk standard you can't use your phone as a modem - but with this setup you can fabulous!
cheers
si
Installed it today on my MDA3c T-Mobile
But where can I configure the SMS messaging center # (+447958879879) ???
solved
from another thread (Hermes WM6) :
start>phone>menu(softkey)>options>services(tab). Select "Voicemail and Text Messages" then tap "get settings".
Hiya, that rom you posted, what rom is that? Is it an official t-mob one or is it converted from somone else? Thanks
Oh, and how does it work on the UK MDA with its missing wifi?

hi danny
it works fine with the lack of wifi - just doesn't have a button in comms manager as before. the rom we're talking about in this thread is the official t-mob uk wm5 (five) rom - which is good to have in case the update goes wrong.
i'm using bepe's rom on my mda c iii and it's tons better than the original. just make sure you read the threads first for instructions.
good luck.
si
thanks, which wm6 rom do you recommend?
If anybody interested in my few hours expirience with MDA C III UK + WM6 here it is:
Device: MDA Compact III UK original ROM,
Unlocked before wth IMEI Check
First I used the USPL as advised by Pof here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=311479
It didn't work first time. I had errors 260 and 270. I repeated the process and it went OK after second time. Then I flashed with the B&W V2 rom. It seemed to end OK.
Notes: Before the play I used latest SPB Backup and made full backup in FlightMode. First thing I did after waking the device in WM6 was restore from it. The process went OK. After restart I got tens of notifications about installing untrusted or something DLLs and EXEcs. After that it hanged and didn't even wanted to wake up anymore.
So - hard reset -> partial restore -> PIM data only and it worked.
Excel and Word are buggy in terms of file handling. You can forget about them for now or use only as readers.
Comm Manager was working only up to the first reset. Then all buttons are hiden under the last one in upper-left corner. You can actualy see them rendering one after another.
GPS checked using iGo 2006 - working fine.
Conclusion:
I'm going to check how it synchronises with Missing Sync on my Mac. The latest version sould work with WM6. If it works I think I'm gonna stay with it longer. Word & Excel is not used by me often enough to stop me trying this Rom. Comm Manager - though, can try to live without it.
I have just flashed with the black and blue rom and all is well apart from the comm manager, yup, all one big mess in the top left. think its something to do with wifi, it was fine on the first boot, it showed the wifi icon but now its reset its gone all funky.

Newbie anxiety!

Hi all
I've taken a good long read throughout this Upgrade to WM6 subforum, I like the idea of it a lot and want to go ahead and do it, but having never re-flashed a PDA Phone before (I've done my PSP lots of times tho but thats easy in relation) I think its very difficult to find anywhere to even begin from!
Can anybody just give me a total-overall-topdown-summary-breakdown of the steps I need to perform on a fresh T-Mobile MDA Vario II. Doesn't have to be in detail, just all the basic steps required.
The forums, whilst being great for regulars seems to just confuse me the more I read them because of all the new issues raised and the individual cases on different vendor models of the Hermes.
My phone isnt a new Vario II, but I've done nothing to it except install apps, and it is showing REALLY old bootloader (I think 1.04) and radio versions (cant remember) in the system information. I'm presuming it'll require a radio upgrade at the least.
I would really appreciate a summary of everything and I think all newbies would benefit a lot.
Specific areas of confusion and concern -
-I would like to be able to grab the existing memory contents as an image off the phone just in case I choose to return to WM5 in future, and have a way of easily restoring it with no fuss. Exactly like ghosting a PC will return the whole OS, and all files and apps. Any recommendations how?
-I cant choose which custom third party WM6 ROM to use or just use HTCs official one if I should.
-I dont know if I'll still be able to use TomTom Navigator and some games plus I'm running TCPMP with the YouTube FlashVideoBundle. Will this still work?
-Should I upgrade the radio and bootloader before thinking about moving to WM6? Is there any other areas I should be flashing/rejigging before upgrading? Eg whats this about the ExtRom and gaining more space (obviously good)?
-The vendor lock on the firmware concerns me. Is there one on the UK T-Mobile MDA Vario II? Also about what I read somewhere about how disabling the lock with one of your tools might brick the phone (or am I getting confused somewhere along the line).
-As the community moves on with further developments, the divide between n00bism (me) and l33t (you) increases - case in point - kitchens??? I'm not saying though that it shouldn't happen!
Many thanks for everybodys work.

are you talking about system tools\ htc custom?
it's already on Cingular
Also, anyone know how to get rid/change the second startup screen (Blue and Green with Windows Mobile)
Whoa, subject hijack...
...oh well, not to worry.
Anyway, in response to gwtx2, I might want to go back because some little thing I need might not work, and I might require some T-Mobile support, I'm sure they'll not touch a phone thats been reflashed with unofficial fw.
Also T-Mobile might release an official WM6 Hermes upgrade too.
Besides, have you never heard of this 'take backups = a good thing' thing?
Besides, it must be relatively easy, how else would all these custom hermes firmwares be built from?
How do these guys do it?
Thx
Stu

Many thanks for pointing me towards MrVanx's Hermes Guide site.
Are you sure its fine to be using the VP3G firmware for my phone given it was derived from and is in general use with a US model AT&T 8525 (A hermes 100)?
My phone is a UK model T-Mobile MDA Vario II (A hermes 300)? Thats three differences I see (Country, operator firmware, hardware revision)!
Although MrVanx guide says the Vario II is suitable on the first page, I'm thinking its worth going for a different ROM derived from the Vario II for luck.
If I choose to go with another that was derived from the HTC official one, I'm presuming the general instructions are the same then?
eg.
#1 take down settings and xfer files.
#2 reflash HardSPL bootloader
#3 reflash radio version
#4 reflash ROM.
#5 restore settings & apps.
Am I right?
Many thanks again.
Done some stuff!
Hi all again.
Right, I've been perhaps too brave for my own good, but it turned out well!
I've installed HardSPL 2.10.Olipro on my phone, plus I've gone the whole hog and picked a very up to date radio version 1.54.00.10, I think it was originally ripped from a french firmware, I figured a Euro fw would be best suited for my UK model Hermes.
I was right I think - I now see a good fast T-Mobile home webpage, and sites load pretty good once it finds it. I also tried YouTube on TCPMP player, that seems quicker but I couldn't be totally sure.
One point I should note - When running the RUUWrapper app, AutoDetect flashed up a YES NO question on the PDA screen to accept running the program. Problem is I didn't catch it in time, so instead it threw up an autodetect error. Now after closing RUUWrapper and re-running it, it never throws up the YES NO question any more in any radio flasher (even after rebooting the PDA and the PC)! Instead I had to choose the HardSPL tickbox and the SPL 2.02/2.10 fourth option down, to continue. Slightly concerning but it worked.
Now all I need to do is up to a WM6 firmware when I choose one, it's gone well so far so my luck is bound to change!
QUESTION PLEASE-
Does anybody know the T-Mobile UK 3G Cellular Line access point password? I know the username but would need to fill in the pwd. The username is t-mobile but the pwd is ****** and wont copy paste of course! Its in the bit where you see the access point address - general.t-mobile.uk.
Many thanks to all for helping me this far.

#2 reflash HardSPL bootloader
#3 reflash radio version
#4 reflash ROM.
#5 restore settings & apps.
Am I right?
Many thanks again.

The general answer to the first part is it doesn't really matter which provider gave you your Hermes as long as it is one. (Actually, there are some differences between Hermes models but honestly don't worry about that for now.)
Don't worry about going for a ROM that's derived from T-Mob. Basically, all the different network providers get given the latest working versions of Windows Mobile from time to time for them to either check and have a play with or to customise and release as an upgrade or in the newest issues of their phones (or as a download for current users).
My Hermes is Orange UK (i.e. SPV M3100) but I've ended up at various times having WM6 versions derived rom AT&T, T-MOb, HTC et al. The only thing that matters is that it's Windows Mobile for the Hermes.
As to going back to WM5, I think it's worth having the original ROM about. If you search around the Hermes Wiki (I'd do it but it's late and I honestly can't be bothered, soz!) you'll find a list of original ROMs available for download. Note your current version and go download it so it's there ready for you to pit back on should you ever want to. (Warranty-claim time can be a good time for that.)
I'd suggest the following as a routine, myself:
1. Note down any details you might need later such as ROM version etc. Anything that comes up briefly after soft-reset or in Device Info and About in settings and any network setting for acessing GPRS or 3G etc.
2. Download the OliPro bootloader and install. The reason for this is to protect yourself as much as possible against problems.*
3. Have a gander at all the current cooked ROMs. I'd advise initially going for a lightish version as you can always add to it with cab files for your preferred extra bits.
4. Don't go for the Kitchens yet. It's best to mess with installing ROMs before trying to make one. The people eho run the kitchen threads, and the people who wrote the tools they use, have all worked very hard on making it possible for people who don't know much to make their own version of WM6 easily. It's easy but do it later.
5. Radio is absolutely optional and in most cases not very unnecessary. Like everyone else, I always want the latest of everything just in case there's a tiny, incremental improvement but if you have no problems with reception or internet access then worry about that last, if ever. Not every radio version is 'better' than the previous. The most recent version always has the highest version number obviously, but new versions are often brought out to deal with issues in a particular geographical area (usually country-specific AND network-specific, though it may or may not be better for other users elsewhere). The latest version of radio may be better for you but it might be worse and it might stop your internet of wifi working or something. Leave it for now if you have no issues with any kind of radio-related functions.
6. Installing your apps and settings is obviously something you'll do when the phone itself is done.
*There is another BRILLIANT touch to make sure you're extra super-safe and it's particularly easy: follow this link: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_SDCardFlashing . Basically, if you keep a copy of the a ROM image (renamed to HERIMG.nbh) on your microSD card (check the wiki item for specifics) then you can flash your phone at the touch of a button (well, two butons) from there in an emergency. even if your house loses ekectrical power during the flashing process whilst it's connectedto your PC and your Hermes won't even THINK of booting with half an OS flashed to it, you can very nearly always restore the ROM by flashing from the card.
It's all dead simple one you get into it, it's just a tad worrying before you start to take a scalpel to a new toy you just paid good money for.
You'll be fine mate.
Aha! Your success story must've appeared whilst I was busy typing!
Nice one. Ah well!
WOOOHOOO! I'm on WM6!!!
Many thanks chunkymunky for all your comments, its nice to know some fellow brits are on here too. Which phone do you have?
Its also nice to know that any hermes ROM will work on my phone, and I'm definitely going to have a go at this SD card reflash at some point now I'm gaining confidence in reflashing. Having said that, I have an old HTC Blue Angel (Orange SPV something) and that used to occasionally crash and do a full hard reset, erasing everything. My hermes has never done that so SD reflashing could be moot.
As it goes I'd like to share my experiences - late last night I flashed my Vario II with Fun_Keys 1.5.2 thats based on the 3.62 WM6 ROM. It reflashed fine, and I am utterly over the moon!!!! My phone has been reborn into something far better, faster in lots of areas. T-Mobile UK be damned for not releasing an official WM6 upgrade (yet) because WM6 is noticeably faster, looks really great with the shiny black theme. etc etc etc.
And because of all the work the ROM authors have done, I now get full on HSDPA access on my phone, I get the H icon on the top bar and everything! I know the H Icon being present now doesnt mean that I didn't get HSDPA before on my original WM5 firmware, but I'm pretty sure it is muchos faster.
Besides, a while back, a guy on T-Mobile UK tech support said I'd only get HSDPA when using my phone as a modem for a laptop, not via PocketIE on the phone itself. That made me feel I'd been a bit ripped off.
Oh and TCPMP with FlashVideoBundle works fine too and the phone downs YT Videos really quickly. I don't even have a serious problem with the ATI Imageon stuffs.
I'd like to mention that after a good while using radio versio 1.54.00.10 that it works fantastically on a UK T-Mobile MDA Vario II. HSDPA access included. Not unexpected since it was on 1.05.05.00!!!
Also TomTom works fine with two different bluetooth GPS receivers I have. WM6 has granted me access to the 'External GPS' option in the control panel I was missing originally (bloody operator firmware!) - as a result Google Maps can now use my GPS too!!!
As a techie by profession, I'm also loving all the extra tools Fun_Keys put on, like the advanced configuration tool, the task manager, regedit etc.
Countless other advantages I've gained has basically brought my phone a new lease of life, now I definitely dont plan to upgrade to a newer phone any time soon.
Who would have thought such a simple thing would bring such happiness!
The only disappointment was with having to up to ActiveSync 4.5 which killed my partnerships! No biggie, and nothing to do with WM6.
a big Thank You to the XDA Developers forum in general for your tireless efforts.
Stu
every time i tried to update the rom or radio i've got the
260 error...why is that?...i have a htc mda basic t-mobile...and its sim locked to austria....can somebody tell me how to unlock it?
Hi all....
1st.. dont flash any full stock ROM cause it includes SPL and radio those (most important radio) are the first thing to brick a device...
2nd.. many times i flash back to wm6 just to test the performance, is ok but you must to stripp the stock rom and guess what?... is hard... so i suggest if you all want to go back to wm6 use the stripped att stock rom

Newby - SPV M700 -> WM6 question

Hi all - sorry about this, but I'm new to this. Got an Orange M700 - still running the original Orange branded WM5 OS: yup, Orange have mangled it. I've been reading the (many...many...many) threads and the wiki and... well I think I'm more confused than ever.
So, just wondering if someone can advise me on the best route to upgrade, and bear in mind I'm a graphics guy....
So, briefly
from the Orange WM5, is there a straight one-step upgrade to WM6?
What .cabs/versions should I be looking for? -> I know there are many you guys have tuned. I guess I'm looking for a fairly standard one? Unless you think otherwise!
Are there any major caveats (other than warranty/support invalidation)?
Need a little hand-holding...
Thanks in advance.
Hi, welcome..
I have M700 too, took the plunge a while back and loaded one of Mun's ROM's.
All I did was install activsync onto my pc and hook up the phone for the first time, once that ran its course I unplugged the phone powered down and removed the sim & sd card and then powered back up again.
Once up n running I plugged it back into the pc and ran the rom I had chosen, yes I was worried it might go wrong but I have to say it was and is very simple n straight forward. There is a WM5 Orange backup rom on here so if you ever did need to send back then you can flash this back onto the phone so it "looks" normal, tbh I'd doubt it would come to that.
I was using XP-SP2 at the time, not sure of anything different for Vista but that's where others here will put you straight, since then I have altered rom many a time and finally settled for Tom's Black'n'Blue - nice and fast and room to add what I want to add rather than be given. Oh and also update the radio rom to the latest version too, pretty much the same method.
Have a look at the roms and decide what you want Happy modding...
Only "gotcha" try and flash from XP, it is rumored to be problematic on a vista PC.
Also be warned flashing ROMs can be addictive, think i have tried 8 or 9 on my Trinity to find one i like, have yet to try the MUN one suggested in the previous post, looks like it will be next.
Ah, twas an early Mun rom and was WM5 - like I said the very first rom I'd flashed so I wouldn't flash to that now
Also realised why i hadn't tried it, i have tried several 6.1 ROMs and none of the WM6 ones. Probably will now i think about it though.
spv m700
Just joined the forum, thought I'd say hi.
I've just bought an spv m700 (following 2 years of the great spv m600), mainly because I wanted inbuilt gps.
The previous owner flashed it with Windows Mobile 6.1, I've yet to really test it.
First of all, I'm going to re-install all my Spb software (spb time, spb backup, spb mobile shell, etc) and transfer contacts etc via active sync.
If anyone has any advice or tips n tricks that you feel may benefit me, I'm all ears.
Cheers,
Matt.

First of all, welcome!
You have to know that the key to knowledge is searching, reading, and if none of those work, asking through posting!
So, happy enlightment and enjoy your device!
OK Monkeybox - hold out your hand - here's mine.
First thing - choose a ROM (sorry, you'll need to make your own choices). Judging by what you have said a LITE ROM would suit your needs.
I have tried most trinity ROMS. I like ADW's ROMs, am currently on Akeo's ROM but have tried LVSW, mUn, black and blue, PDAVIET, FInixNOver, ervius etc etc etc (Sorry if I've tried and forgotten your ROM!). Once you have your ROM, you should unlock the phone
1. (Hard-SPL - Service Providor Lock). http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=299659 This will enable you to flash a ROM with different carrier ID to you SPV M700. OK - Once you have hard-spl'd your phone, find the RUU (Rom Update Utility) exe file within the ROm that you downloaded.
2. Connect your phone (windows XP is best) using activesync and when activesync is connected, run the RUU Updater. The phone will switch off and go into "bootloader" (coloured bars on screen). If you get a connection error here, just run the RUU updater again. this time things should get going. When finished - your new ROM is installed - no more Orange!
3. Next update the Radio - search xda-developers.com using google for Trinity Radio - and choose 1.46 or 1.5x.
4. Install missing software (generally you'll need a GPS navigation software at least).
5. Enjoy.
6. If you like a ROM - donate to the cooker
7. Get a flashing addiction
8. Read all of the Kitchen threads
9. Cook your own ROM
10. Share it with us
11. Be eternally happy

Thank you, and all others who have responded, for your greatly appreciated advice! I've been trying to get my head around the process. Have backed up using PIM backup and settings saviour... and with your hand holding, am about to dive into the world of modding!
It's a little daunting for a newbie (and I really do mean a newbie!), but with everyones help, and this fantastic community as a resource, bah, watch me fly! (I'll probably be back tomorrow asking how I can de-brick the phone ;O) )
Thanks again all.
Cool. Upgraded to WM6.1 - Akeos latest black one.
Have to say the functionallity is 10 times better already. Upgraded to the latest radio too.
HOWEVER... and this is where the newbie kicks in, I can't seem to start any data sessions. IN COmm manager I don't have the option to turn the data connection on (this was also the same prior to the radio upgrade)
Don't suppose anyone knows how to resolve this do they?
As I say, taking my first steps on the modding ladder, and it appears I may have slipped...

You have to define your data connection from "Start, Settings, Connections, Connections, My ISP, Add new" according to your carrier (ie GPRS, 3G). Same goes to configuring MMS, just that you do it at "Start, Settings, Connections, Connections, My Work Connection" and you also have to define it in Arcsoft MMS.
You will not be able to start them from the CommManager as they connect on demand as needed, but you can STOP the in the CommManager when they are connected since they don't disconnect automatically.

Once more, thanks to all who've helped me over the threshold - the data connection must have been an issue with the signal, as this morning it was happy to connect to mms/internet via 3G/GPRS and HSDPA (which I didn't even know Orange supported).
Cheers all. Your help has been absolutely spot-on. It's refreshing to come to a community where you not only happy to help newbies, without the usual sarcasm or pomposity you find elsewhere, but you do so in a clear and concise way that really does help.
Thanks all. Look what you've gone and started now... !!!
One happy newbie stepping out into a brave new world...

have fun with your spv
I have a problem, and the more I search the forums, the more I worry it may be due to an upgraded Rom.
The original owner of the spv m700 I just bought has by the looks of it debranded it and installed WM 6.1:
Device name: HTC_P3600i
Model NO: TRIN100
Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional
ROM version 3.03.751.5
ROM Date: 04/01/08
Radio Version: 1.16.00.00
Protocol Version: 32.53.7018.01H
With Tomtom 6 installed and seemingly working, the GPS receiver is not being detected. I have done what the forums say, i.e. selected "NMEA GPC receiver", get a screen with:
COM3: GPS in COM9
COM7: RIL on COM6:
S2410 IRDA
I have clicked on the first option (COM 9 is recommended), but still no GPS device found, indoors or out, after 10 minutes of trying
Like I say, much info says the above should solve it, but others say an upgrade can knock out the GPS and it needs to have a different ROM reinstalled. Never done this before, and there may be an easier solution?
Help anyone.... please.......?!
I'm not 100% sure but I think your radio rom needs upgrading to support GPS - I'm sure the one's that do have 11 at the end of them..
Really?? It would be great to finally reach a soultion!
Can someone verify if this is true and if so, what do I have to do??
Thanks.
Hi Monkey Boy and all.
I think I'm in a similar situation that you were...
The original owner of my new spv m700 debranded it, unlocked it (by flashing an old radio ROM) installed WM 6.1. I now fear that the reason tomtom detests no GPS device is because the radio may need updating too... (see below for the spec on my phone at the moment).
Have you discovered which is the best radio to update to?
Device name: HTC_P3600i
Model NO: TRIN100
Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional
ROM version 3.03.751.5
ROM Date: 04/01/08
Radio Version: 1.16.00.00
Protocol Version: 32.53.7018.01H
All advice and recommendations welcomed. I have never flashed anthing before so this is all new to me, but I like to think I learn fast...
Thanks,
Matt

Original owner would have done this to unlock it, so all you have to do is search for the latest radio rom and flash that to your phone - there are guides how to do this in here..
Radio ROM

Hey Trixter.
Thanks for the reply.
I managed to get in touch with the original owner and he sent me a link to an an .exe file which I downloaded, ran whilst activesynced to my phone, and voila! I now have radio ROM 1.50.08.11. Tomtom 6.03 now successfully works using settings "other NMEA GPS receiver" with "GPS baud rate 115200" and "GPS in Com9"!
I'm a novice and bought the phone as a "pimped up" spv m700. But I'm learning loads since joining thanks to people like your good self answering posts, so thanks.
Matt
Thanks to seeing your signature I'm sorted! If you read anyone else with the same problem, I hope my experience helps them.
Thanks again for your time,
Matt.

[Tutorial] How to upgrade Indian 2G Airtel Locked Diamond

Hi All,
I had lot of difficulty searching for different articles on how to upgrade my Indian Airtel Locked 2G Diamond to any of the NON-HTC ROMs.
Doubts were in mind as to which version of HardSpl, Radio will work with 2G Indian Diamond, whether Airtel lock has to be removed before upgrade, whether i'll brick my phone if i did not unlock it, so and so forth..
Hence i thought i'll share whatever i did to make my Diamond faster:
STEP BY STEP GUIDE TO UPGRADE INDIAN 2G AIRTEL LOCKED DIAMONDS:
Before going to any steps please note that whenever you use the RUU (HardSpl / Radio / ROM) please wait till the install is over, do not disconnect your cable / active sync connection or use the phone.. Sometimes u may not see activity on the PC/Phone, just wait and wait and all will be fine, u touch the diamond & it may get bricked!!
This tutorial has nothing to do with Unlocking from Airtel Network, and after doing a ROM upgrade your phone is still locked to Airtel only..
There is no need to unlock your Airtel Locked Diamond before going ahead with these steps:
Step1:
BACKUP:
Backup all your files, contacts, sms, PIM etc.. (I used PIM Backup v2.8)
Tip: The internal Storage does not get formatted unless you do a hard reset (anytime later after upgrade), still i recommend to backup your Internal storage.. just in case.., then use Sprite Backup, to backup in total..
Step2:
CHANGE TO HARDSPL FROM SPL:
SPL is like BIOS of your computer, HardSpl is a customised BIOS (Like HP bios may not allow u to tweak ur computer fully, the SPL does not allow custom non HTC ROMs)
To change SPL to HardSPL, use Olinex 1.40 Unsigned, also called Unsigned Olinex HardSPL Developer Edition
From this page download - Hard-SPL-Diamond-OliNex.zip (1.92 MB, 21113 views)
Please read details of what to do and what not to do during HardSPL on this page.
Tips:
Check whether your SPL is Changed to HardSPL by going into bootloader screen - Press [Vol Dwn] & [RESET] simultaneously to enter bootloader screen
Dont go to step3 unless you have changed to HardSPL & confirmed it on the bootloader screen
Step3:
CHANGE RADIO:
Radio is the sofware that is used to control all the connectivity (Bluetooth, Wi-Fi) & Phone (Which Band/ 3G/2G etc) functions
To change the Radio you have to do two things:
1. Download Custom RUU (A software to install your Radio - Like windows installer) 2. Selected Radio file
Dowload Custom RUU from here
2. Download radio from here, i preferred to use v1.00.25.05, now on v1.00.25.08
Please read details of what to do and what not to do while changing Radio on this page.
3. Extract both files into one single folder & install on your Diamond
Tips:
Changing the Radio is like getting a permission to install unofficial ROM, it wont remove Airtel Lock..
Check whether your Radio is Changed to desired version by doing a soft reset
Dont go to step4 unless you have changed & confirmed the desired Radio version with Soft Reset
Step4:
CHANGE ROM:
You can choose any unofficial ROM to install but as our Indian Diamonds are different (2G), you should be doubly sure that the ROM you select does not include a Radio (Coz all other radios will be 3G) Of course most of the ROM are devoid of Radios and SPL, but also most famous ROM cookers mention what their ROM contains and what it doesnt..
a. Select & Download a ROM, just install it..
b. Some ROMs need you to install it through RUU utility
c. Hard Reset the device once you have finished installing the ROM and make your Diamond a faster & cutomised machine..
Step 'c' is very important for your diamond to work properly
Please read details of what to do and what not to do while changing ROM on this page.
Tip:
I used SwiftBl 6.5... works like charm and flawless.., also used Dutty's ROM - not my cup of tea, as there were no updates of SwiftBL after 05/10/08, now i'm on Pistonripper.. Fast & Furious..!!
Step5:
RESTORE:
Restore from PIM Backup / Sprite Backup..
Thanks to many friends & posts who helped me use an XDA SITE ROM..
This post is mainly for my indian diamondwala counterparts & are only the main steps in brief, and mainly to mention what versions worked flawlessly on 2G version..
Please refer to more details espcially THIS post which gives very detailed account of upgrading..
Hope this post helps few..
Seniors / Moderators please read the article and if mistakes then point out.. I have used simple understandable words for newbies like me..

do u mean that diamonds supplied by airtel are physically stripped off of 3G or is it just a software restriction?
Yes, Indian Diamonds dont have a 3G chip itself, if you look at indian website specs, the processor is different from rest of the world i.e. MSM7206A, while rest of the world it is MSM7201A (MSM7206A = MSM7201A - 3G Chip)
So there's a clearly different hardware..
keeping aside 3G & Quad band , the indian diamond is same as international, right?
Using a 3G 900/2100 Diamond in India...
Many thanks for this thread....very helpful
For a 3G diamond 900/2100 + Tri band GSM...will the Quadband radio v1.00.25.05 work?....
Will the 3G diamond work with this Radio in Europe where UMTS 2100 exists?
What will be the best cooked ROM for such a config? SwiftBl 6.5?
Thanks in advance...
@ karkalanand
hey man i'm lil confused here......i was reading through this thread and came to see that boinger66 claims maybe the indian version has 3g capability , what do u think ?
Indian diamond => 3G?
@blufade
Check these links...found the 7201A specs but not the 7206A ones...dunno why?...
http://www.qctconnect.com/products/msm_7201.html
http://www.jaganath.net/content/mobile/should-you-buy-the-htc-touch-diamond-in-india/210
Surely confusing unless someone flashes using the 3G radio and goes out of India ...to check it out...very expensive test...
btw, does the airtel diamond have gps chip ?
yes it does have GPS .. all the same only its 2G ..
thanks fr the help guys
btw, has any of u guys in india managed to get a pouch for your diamond ?
thats all quickgps does... it downloads information that would help your gps get a faster fix... you need a gps software to actually use ur gps....for eg, navigating softwares for use in india - satnav (www.satnavtechnologies.com/), mapking, inav (http://inav.mapmyindia.com/) ... Or even offroad navigation softwares like Gps Tuner
is it possible to get the simlock back to the phone ???

Sure enough I'll be flashing my India 2G Diamond (DIAM140) in the next few days with the info given. I think I'm ready after reading for 2 weeks straight.
I'll be leaving from Iraq in Oct. to go to Kuwait, then in Nov. will be headed to Germany, then taking my R&R Leave to the US.
I'll let you guys know how everything works out when I get to the states with it.
Got it on the first try
Hey I gotta say thanks you guys on this site rock.
I'm a N00b and came to this site reading and just getting info for 2 weeks straight and today was able to flash the unsigned hardspl, 1.00.25.05 radio, and swiftbls rom and to my suprise I had no issues. Reading and following directions is what I'm use to in the Army lol and that helped out. Thanks everyone.
Couple of things, it shouldnt matter what the red lettering says when i turn the device on right as long as the tri-color screen says olinex 1.40?
Now i will continue to look through this ROM and if i have any problems I'll read then ask questions if i can't find it.
Hooah. Thanks alot again for the indian diamond tutorial!!!
congrats justo81
now that u've upgraded , any noticable improvement in performance ?
Oh yes lots of notable improvments in performance. When switching to different screens there isnt that lag that was there. The time it use to take my calls to connect on the old radio is reduced now. Almost like I'm in the states and I'm calling people from Iraq!! lol
Still searching in the forums to get GPS working with google maps. Doesnt seem to want to locate the bird (satellite) when I know the direction of most of them cause I'm a commo guy and we log on them on the time
Overall. I'm glad I upgraded and look forward to exploring and adding some more apps with this device
