changing boot splash - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam ROM Development

not a total idiot . . . yet I can not figure out how to get rid of the ATT animated splash screen on the new AT&T branded rom.
I can change the main splash and welcomehead file, but not what I am supposing is the subsplash.
I have even cooked my own ruu nbh with just a subsplash which has worked on black roms, but seemingly has no effect on this rom
any ideas?

The only thing I can help you with, and I am sure you looked is try here.
Is the splash your talking about the annoying animated one, that has the load startup volume? I have tried a few roms myself and it has never shown up since using those.

the animated att gif and sound files are located in either the extended rom or the OEMOPERATORS folder. You just have to delete them before you cook your rom. Or post cooking, you just either overwrite or delete the two files in your windows folder... and another option too is to point your registry settings to your own files. should be in the HKLM/Software/HTC/AnimatedGif
Sorry if I'm not being clear on the exact locations of those files because I'm at work and I don't have my kitchen supplies here with me. But it should't be hard now that I've pointed you in the right direction.

thanks guys
I reflashed using the ATT branded ROM so that's why I got the animated startup (subsplash doesn't even show) so I'll reflash and reset it before it goes into the customizations.
Seems like it goes through two configurations - one from ? and the other from the extended rom - using "pimp my black v2" to unlock extended rom. However I can not delete any files located on the extended rom. Am I doing something wrong? I want to create my own autoconfig with just the things I need/want. I'd love to NOT install all the ppt stuff. Where is that autoconfig coming from?

I believe it's not in the ext rom, but the ROM itself. Disable it here: HKLM/Software/HTC/Startupanimation.

PTT is in the ROM not the ext rom. We're stuck with it for now.

Problems upgrading Rom

Hey there!
I used the German t-mobile rom but soon became pissed off. so I upgraded to Helmi's AKU 3.3 Rom. Sadly, the german icons stayed (Contacts, T-mobile services etc.) Does anyone know how to get rid off the old symbols & icons, is it probably connected to extended rom and does anyone know how to unlock & delete it?
Thx for ya help!
Yes, if you search for the extended rom unlocker, you will be able to unlock this, and delete the things inside.
Or another way would be to search for a blank extended rom, or a cooked one from the ftp server, and add this to the folder containing the flash files, and reflash the device, or even just flash with the extended rom, leaving the rest alone.
AlanC is right, you need to bypass the stuffs in your Extended ROM which customize the device.
The other thing you can also do is to hard reset your Universal, and the first time when it comes up a message appears on the screen saying it will start customizing in 3 seconds something like that. Use the stylus to soft reset the device before that 3 seconds run out and you will bypass the customization.

going back to official ROM...

i've decided to go back to the official OEM ROM.
none of the ROMs i've installed from here (schaps, tnt, black) give me a notification if someone leaves me a voicemail message, and i keep missing important (business) messages because of this, and losing work & money as a result
i do like the speed and stability of the ROMs ive downloaded from here, but i cannot afford to lose another £1000+ job because i missed an important voicemail
(i have posted on the various ROM threads about this problem but nobody ever seems to notice or reply to them)
however my understanding is that because i've upgraded to hardSPL then the exe supplied by Orange will not work. this exe also includes a radio "upgrade" which will knock my radio back by several versions, which i don't want to do
so how can i get the official Orange ROM back onto my hermes without downgrading the radio as well ?
Look in the offical rom thread (sticky on the top of the page) or go to the orange site and look for the upgrade rom. As a note have you changed your notifications (settings) to notify you when you get a voicemail/email. I flashed schaps 3.60 and had to go in and reconfig my notifications because they had been changed (not notifying for missed calls/new emails).
Although I am not as familiar with "orange" I can tell you I have never had the issue that you mention in regard to vm. As far as reverting to the official shipped rom, I have done so a number of times with perfect success. If you have hard spl on it than why not give it a shot and if it fails go from there. If reverting to the official rom works simply reload the radio of your choice after and you should be happy.
I personally feel it has to be a settings issue on your phone rather than a the os. Maybe check, and double check your settings to ensure they are correct before giving up on the wonderful cooked roms we have all grown so fond of. Additionally i can appreciate using your phone as a part of your business as I do mine but if your experiencing problems why risk it and just stay stock.
I would agree that it must be a configuration or network problem. Never heard of a ROM causing this.
However, the answer to your question is:
1. Download the ROM as instructed above (from Orange, HTC or here)
2. Using WinRAR or similar, unpack the .exe file
(You should get a an .nbh file and a RUU.exe file)
3. Using "dutty's good nbh tool", unpack the .nbh file that you got in step 2
(You should get a small collection of .nb files - radio, os, mainsplash, secondarysplash)
4. Still with dutty's good nbh tool, build an nbh file from the os.nb.
5. Place the newly built os.nbh in a directory alone with Custom RUU (available in here somewhere - search should find it - any post from Olipro has it linked in his sig)
6. Run the RUU.
Done!
Please be carefull when you give these kinds of advices!!!!
With dutty's tool he will extract nb files and not nbh.Afterwards he will have to recompile the ROM choosing the parts that he wants (OS.nb,....) and make a new RUU_signed.nbh which will flash with the RUUWrapper.
It's very pity to brick your device because someone did NOT know what ADVICE to give. Please be careful next time. This time I saw it on time.
Static,
Just before you go bac to the OEM rom consider this: I was on Virgin, then o2, both using Schaps 3.54c, not exprienced the problem you have indicated. Has got to be a network setting.
With my setup I get o2 to notify me of voicemail messages via a text rather than ringing and voice. Why don't you try that option before you jump ship?
Get another phone and call your number to make sure it works.
Good luck.
WB
I have used schaps and black and the only voicemail bug I had was the funny text message with the @ symbol bug, which is easily cured by running rabdo's orange cab.
I have run Black Satin for ages now and always get the voicemail symbol come up.
Make sure you clear all old voicemails and start from scratch for it to work...
that's the voicemail bug - i get the @ symbol thing
where's this orange cab you speak of. i've searched the hell out of these forums, and indeed, this is the 4th time i've posted about it (and the first i've received a response)
i've installed one orange cab i found somewhere, and also before i erased the shipped ROM i opened up the extended_rom and saved all those cabs to my storage card. i've tried installing all of those too and seemingly to no effect.
ok i think i found it - searching for rabdo found it. could have done with this one being in the wiki somewhere, seems everyone on orange had this problem, seems i'm not the only one who got annoyed enough to go back to the shipped rom too !
I wish I'd seen this earlier could have saved you a bit of hassle..
if you have any problems let me know as i've had it working fine on all the wm6 Roms i've tried using the non cab manual method (the cab sometimes fails for some reason)
Just for info: Its not a setting that you have to change its a change to the sms_providers.dll file to handle the weird way orange send the alerts in a text message, theres nothing you can configure as such to solve it without running the cab or installing the file and the devcerts manually.
You can also cook the fix in with a bit of tweaking if that would work better..
I have never had this problem of missing voice messages, both with the official WM6 ROM as well as all the other ROMs from Black and Dutty. I doubt if that has anything to do with the cooked ROMs. I am on Telstra network though.

Help!! I tried to put on a new theme and it all went wrong.

I tried to put on a new theme and it went horribly wrong. Touch flow is completely busted. All I have is a white screen with NO tabs at the bottom and the time showing in the upper corner and the work "Title" in the middle. If someone can help me restore it to the original look I would be happy. I am using duty 2.1 on an T8285 HD.
Hi
I did exactly the same thing earlier today, unfortunately I don't think the theme you tried to install is compatible with duttys 2.1 as I found out earlier. I managed to solve the problem only by doing a hard reset which restored it to how it was just after I put duttys 2.1 rom on it. I'm not sure if there is any other way unless you delete the correct manilla files from the windows directory but i'm afraid I don't know what these are
if you can still sync, remember to back up anything important.
Good luck hope this helps
I tried a hard reset and it did not work.
did you tried to use the Max TF3D Theme Maker to restore orginal ?
(I didn't know if the software itself contains any OE Manila files.... but I used the restore orginal w/o backup ..and it did the job....so.. it's just a build suggestion you can try)
Fixed
I re-flashed the rom and started over. I had not done too much to the device so I will have it back to where I was in no time.
before reflashing there is also the option to delete all *_manila files in /windows
stuff will be replaced after softreset

WOW man, you gotta give more information than that or nobody will know what your talking about
1. You need to know what version of manila you are running, 2.1, 2.5 etc.
2. Then you need to tell us what you are downloading?
3. With any theme that you apply to TF3D, regardless of the version, you will need to "Install to Device" and not to storage card.
Please give more info and we can help!
Currently i dont have manilla on the phone thats what i am trying to put on, when i went on the thread there are so many to choose from. I put the file on my storage card then opened up through the phone but i did install to device not storage card. Is there somthing i need to do first. sorry if not too clear i bit new at all of this.

You do have manila on your phone. Touchflo (or TF3D) is manila, and so is Sense UI which you may have seen in these forums. They're HTC's proprietary UI. Touchflo is what came installed on your phone. It is being fazed out by HTC and replaced with Sense UI, though they are both made up of manila files and look very similar.
You need to tell us what you are trying to install (cab name?) and your manila version (look in Settings tab, About Phone, Software Information, Manila Version). I suspect you are running the stock rom, which would be Touchflo 1.3.
Most of the users here are using custom roms which include the latest versions of Sense UI - themes and modifications for Sense UI will not work with the older Touchflo. In other words if you want your phone to have all the functionality and look as cool as the pics you might have seen here you'll need to flash a custom rom There's a couple of excellent guides in the rom forum if you choose to go that route...
It says Touch flo for pocket pc version 3.0 is this what you mean
Found it you are right it is a 1.3 says touchFLO 3D 1.3 so are you now saying i am better to change this
Could you piont me in the right direction to flash my rom to sense UI just a point will i loose my data on the phone when i do this. Thanks

That's the guide on how to flash. Take a look at the rom forum and look in each thread to see which one you like the look of. Bare in mind there are 2 different versions of Sense as well - 2.1 and 2.5. The difference is that 2.5 has quicklinks (program shortcuts on the home tab) and is more processor intensive than 2.1 (slower, potentially, though it's never bothered me). I'm using miniterror's Ravage rom myself, though I'm fond of Balaji's roms too. Ultimately it's very much a case of personal taste though. Yes you will lose all your data though you can back up texts and contacts etc with various apps like PIM backup and My Phone. Flashing custom roms can be very addictive, so be prepared to flash a rom today, decide it doesn't have everything you want, or has more than you need, and flash a new rom tomorrow. Make sure you read that guide and you can keep flashing til you land on a rom you really like

Few questions regarding UOT kitchen and flashing zips

Hi just wondering when I download a battery icon for example of the kitchen do I have to wipe before I flash it? Also if I decide I won't different font for example do I just flash that over again and the battery will stay?
Thanks
No you don't news to wipe. And yes the battery will stay. The fonts are just normal font files that get put in /system/fonts. The battery gets built into the framework and the framework gets replaced. Just to be safe I would backup first because I have had it where the flash has messed up.
Sent from CM7
Ok thanks for the reply mate. How come every time a flash something the battery goes back to the standard 1 so I have to flash it again?
Thanks
Also is there any way of changing the email envelope you get when you get a email? I can't seem to find anything.
Anyone any idea why when I flash some icons my modified battery goes back to standard?
why don't you ask those questions in the right place => http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=990829
uot kitchen thread by mendozina.
you shpould considere what your are flashing and how... each time you flash new icons, if it's system icon then framework is replace. you should use (copy) the mod bat framework from you system to flash new icon and keep the already mod you had done.
but this is a though since you don t give a lot explaination.

Are you using the ROM files provided by UOT each time? If so, each time you make new items in the kitchen you're only over-writing those specific files when you flash it. Therefore if you choose not to change the battery mod in the kitchen when you flash new icons, you're flashing standard battery settings over the previously flashed customer battery settings.
i have similar problem,
today i have cooked my first mod, just new battery icons for status bar, status bar icons and new font. rom gets cooked w/o problems, also flashing goes as smooth as should be. the thing is, when i boot the phone no change is visible.
i didn't upload framework and system apk-s, i used IC 1.1.0. from kitchen, which is the rom i use. i did use edify script (for CM 3.x) and uncheck ThemeChooser.
i must be missing something but can't figure out what it is...any help appreciated. thx!
ok, i figured it out...flashing zip doesn't work for some reason, but adb push solved it... everything works now! for me, at least...hope it helps someone...;-)
