Im looking for a program like x-button for my dash, I had this program on my mda before and worked great, or is there a registry tweak, when i close an app it really closes instead of running in the background.
xbar is a great app for smartphone. It allows you to quickly switch between apps and by holding the center button you can close/kill apps.
The Dash has a built in Task manager too. I just mapped it to teh tzones key. You can quickly close or switch apps there.

Up through WM5, I used xBar as a task-manager, great program:
http://xetranet.free.fr/xbar2/?lang=eng&project=xBar 2#
It doesn't get along so well with WM6. Hasn't been an update for quite a while, the author doesn't respond to emails about whether an update is coming. He also hasn't posted a message in his own forums for ages.
Does anyone know of anything similar? If you're not familiar with xBar, it's a 'always there' task manager that lets you quickly see which programs are running, switch to them, or close them, just by pressing and holding the center navigation button.
Chaz, why not use the built-in HTC Task Manager? You can assign one of the Dash (the T-zones) key to it to have it launch instantly. It works great!
quick question
how did you remap the t-zones key to open the task manager ?

Check the stuff under the 'Recommended Remaps' heading.
I use celetask, it seems to work well under WM6.

I'm using Dash with WM6.1. By default if you press some key it will go to contact lookup. I'm wondering if there's a way to launch app by hot key combination? For example, Alt+T for task etc..

there's not a native way of doing this, but there is a program that has a hotkey addition function. Its called smarttoolkit. www.e-natives.com
Thanks for the pointer. smarttoolkit probably does too much more than I want. Is there a simple one that just do the hotkey launcher work?
Well actually, you can disable the smarttoolkit app from showing you all of the eye candy, and still get the hotkey to work, but it will still run in the background. Technically any hotkey program will run in the background, and the only alternative without using a hotkey program is to use the IE button (t-zones button) and remap short_ie.lnk to perform what you're trying to accomplish
No, there is another alternative. Sorry, Pudgedaddy, not even trying to step on your toes. Showaco found one for me. It isn't free though. Although it is the only alternative that is out there. It is called AE Button. It is a russian software, ok, but it works perfectly. I still agree with Pudgedaddy, just don't run Smarttoolkit in the homescreen, disable that feature. It doesn't eat up memory, so run it, then you can have all of the button presses you want.
ROCK ON, LONDON, ROCK ON CHICAGO
Thanks. I will give both a try.
Hi Guys, I'd like to have the HTC task manager in the top right of every program (except full screen obviously) in place of the "X". If I want to exit a program, I usually press the hardware "ok" button and keep it running in the background for fast loading later and keep an eye on memory usage with the top right menu. Is it possible to have the task manager always on in place of the cross?
Yes, that would be great. I did not find anything to get what we want, so far.
As a workaround, I used WkTask (http://soft.photoracer.net/docs/wktask_en.html) which works well, and allows to switch easily from one running program to the other.
Waiting for a better solution, hope that this helps.

Best program iv found by a long way is Showcase. Works like a charm and looks pretty!
SPB Pocket Plus and SBSH both do as you ask... but the come at a premium
pbar works for me. "pBar is able to override the behaviour of the "X" button just like other task managers. In addition, there are a couple of handy shortcuts found on the popup menu. You can even add shortcuts of a couple ..."
I want to configure one of the hard buttons to switch between running apps (i.e. as a task switcher). I've tried using AEBPlus, and assigning a double-click of the OK key to "Alt-Tab" or "Switch to next application", but neither appears to switch between running applications.
Does anyone know how I can do this??
Ever since my XDAIIi on WM2003SE and continuing with my Kaiser on WM6, (& soon to be added to my Rhodium as soon as it's unboxed) I've used TaskSwitch+ as it perfectly mimics Window's Alt-Tab function.
http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-taskswitch-v0-04.html
If you navigate to the registry you can tweak some settings for it (such as how long in milliseconds it holds the switcher open before switching to the selected app, the default is 600ms but I prefer 1 second or 1000)
It even used to work with my old fold-out keboard for the XDA IIi using Alt-Tab!
Just assign it to a hardware key and bingo.
N.B. there may well be other task switcher programs out there, I only know of this one, elegant because of it's tiny size & the fact that once it's run and switched to the relevant app it quits, leaving no memory overheads.
hope this helps
Joe
ae button plus is another nice tool to configure hardware button:
http://ae.inc.ru/aebplus.php
Use AltTab.exe and Keyboard Config
I am looking for a better method for multitasking on my Touch Pro 2. I hate having to return to the home screen before I can access the task manager dropdown and select another program. Is there a way to always display the task manager dropdown (except for when an 'OK' needs to be displayed) in all programs? Or can somebody recommend a better way to switch between programs without having to return to the home screen each time? Thanks!
spb alt tab
spb alt tab is great. i have it installed and assigned the push to talk button to run it. it's just like alt tab in windows xp. i forget where i got the cab from, but here it is. enjoy
Thank, I'll give it a shot. I'm trying out Task Facade right now, but it seems like its slowing down my device.
Facade rocks .. its a little slow .. but works great
I Use WkTask and its working pretty good with my TP2. Strongly recomended.
Im however curious about the SPB Alt tab, I installed it and got it working.
But the problem with my TP2 is that I only can program one button, the HOLD+(talk) button on the device for a task. I Do however got 4 other button on the front and Im wondering if there is a way to to select\choose one of these button to a particular task, in this case (Spb alt tab)?
