WM6, GPS, A2DP skipping - is there a definitive answer? - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam ROM Development

After much searching and Googling, I'm a bit stumped.
I'm currently running VP3G's 2.0.1h variant of the WM6 ROMs, and A2DP works beautifully. So does CoPilot / MSN Live Search / Google Earth with Bluetooth GPS. But together? Skip goes the audio.
Some playing with the BitPool setting got me more or less audio before the skips. The BlueTooth GPS is the one that comes with the CoPilot bundle, SirfSTAR III, running at 4800 baud. Fairly standard fare. The A2DP headset is the Sony Ericsson HBH-DS970 headphones. Ideally, I'd like to be able to use it for satnav - you've guessed it - via the bluetooth headphones.
I haven't tried installing the Widcomm stack yet, although that's next on my list. It'd just be nice to do it "natively" with the WM6 bluetooth drivers if possible.

The Hermes has a hard enough time just with A2DP, co-existing with a BT GPS receiver will be really pushing the device's capabilities. You can try installing Sleuth255's A2DPFix v1.0 which does a really good job of fixing A2DP issues in general, but I suspect that you may be asking too much from our poor little devices...

Well, installing the Widcomm stack solved it hands down - whilst it seemed to use a little more CPU, it worked fine with the bluetooth GPS and the bluetooth audio, with the satnav application broadcasting audio via the headset.
I'll try the A2DP fix, and see if it does any good with the MS stack. Still, at least I've got a way around the problem now!

Interesting! I have always considered the Widcomm stack to be miles better than the M$ one (even though M$ has made quite some improvement recently), but just never had enough time to really play around with it to get it working on my TyTN. There was an effort started late last year to raise $500 for the first person to release a working version of the stack, but unfortunately it fizzled.
This might be enough to get me to try again. I am going on vacation for two weeks starting Sunday, this would be a good project for a rainy day -- I am going camping, it always rains when you're camping!!

After playing around with it some more (using the 0.3 version from the thread), it seems a bit flakey, sometimes failing to update properly, but I think that's more down to CoPilot than the stack - MSN Live Search and Google Maps seemed to work just fine when I was listening to my music. Nothing fancy on the music score either, just plain old Windows Media Player. A lower CPU usage program might help the satnav program - I'll try some alternatives shortly.
The A2DP fix made no difference at all, although I suspect that's mainly for the awful MS implementation on WM5. I haven't really noticed all that much difference in sound quality between the two stacks, although some people rave about the Widcomm, but maybe I'm just not as attuned as some people
There's no doubt that the Widcomm stack is better than the MS one, although it's not without it's apparent issues of course. I tend to use the MS one for general usage and the Widcomm if I need to do more than one bluetooth thing at once. Seems to work for now, although I need to put it in more heavy testing.
Both stacks give the odd skip, but I tend to think that may well be down to how much CPU usage I'm pushing out of the poor little thing
The problem with the Widcomm stack being ported properly was that it wasn't really organised all that well. If someone steps up to the podium, I'm pretty certain people will pay for the functionality. It's just finding someone with the skills and time to do it!
Give it a try, although beware of the potential caveats - reading up on the thread is recommended.

Reliable BlueAngel bluetooth?

I have a BlueAngel / SX66 on Cingular. I have been through every ROM upgrade you can imagine, all with the hopes that SOME DAY the bluetooth will work properly. More specifically, I have a stick BMW and it's impossible for me to talk on this thing and drive at the same time, not to mention really unsafe, but I absolutely need to talk in the car because I'm on the move a lot. There is a bluetooth headset interface in the car that I know is pretty damn good because it works so beautifully with Motorola devices (specifically the somewhat ancient V600 I have). My SX66 can barely get through 3 seconds of being connected to it before it just goes haywire and drops the connection, locks up my stereo, etc. It's a disaster. So every time a new ROM comes out I sit for hours upgrading just hoping that maybe this time it will work. I've tried a Motorola HS810, HS850, a Logitech Mobile Freedom, a Jabra BT800, and an Ericsson HBH600. Not one of them can consistently hold a connection without it dropping here and there and me having to go to the Bluetooth manager and "reconnect". These are all reputable headsets that work flawlessly with other devices.
Conclusion: The MS bluetooth stack is pathetic.
Problem: I want my SX66 to work with JUST ONE bluetooth device flawlessly. It doesn't need to be the car necessarily, but that would be really sweet if it did. I have recently upgraded to WM5 in another feeble attempt, but alas WM5 doesn't appear to be compatible with GoodLink, the messaging sync software that I'm tied to that makes me use this god awful device (I won't use a Treo because the Palm UI is garbage and it has its own host of problems I've seen). I'm going to have to downgrade back to 1.40 to get GoodLink to work again because its pretty vital to me.
Question: Does anyone know how to get Bluetooth to work consistently with any headset, paired with an SX66? I seriously have sank like $400 just in headsets trying to get this piece of crap to work. If there are any stack upgrades, firmware flashes, etc. WHATEVER I'm willing to try anything. This is the only Windows based device available on the market that is compatible with GoodLink and has a qwerty keyboard that's easy to use.
FYI, the BA uses the Broadcom/Widcomm BT stack, unless you've upgraded it to WM5.

Bluetooth Versions - General

Seems to be a lot of problems/issues spread across the forums concerning bluetooth and XDA2/XDA2i in general. :?
Would a specific Bluetooth Forum be an idea, to try and zero in on some of these issues? :idea:
Now that there are an increasing number of BT devices/uses - GPS, headsets, headphones, cameras, laptops, fridges, car setups etc.. it would be good to be able to share info on those uses that actually work well .... and those that don't.
As a starter .....
What is considered the best and most stable BT setup for XDA2 and XDA2i? Does this vary depending on what you are using it for - handsfree, TomTom, or built-in carphone ?
For my own setup, I am using an XDA2i (Bluetooth v1.0.0-3900 by Broadcom) - this works about 75% of the time with my JabraBT250v.
I also have bluetooth factory-fitted by Audi in my car - but as yet it is intermittent when connecting to the XDA2i and will not recognise the SIM addressbook like it is supposed to do.
The car makes the bluetooth link OK, and I can make calls (even using Audi's Voicedial 8) ) but it then drops out/reconnects every four minutes :evil: Very annoying, but suppose it keeps the call costs down :roll: Is this likely to be the car dropping the phone or the phone dropping the car? Any fixes or hints ?
I have a spare XDA2 that I will happily use as a testbed to try and get different Bluetooth versions working - just be patient with me as I'm a novice !
as far as i know then which bluetooth version is supported is in the Hardware and can never be altered
but what you can do is to change bluetooth stack from MS to vidcomm / broadcom
it solves some issues but creates others try doing a search for vidcomm OR broadcom

BLUETOOTH STACK - please please help me

I have read every post about MS bluetooth stack vs widcomm etc....
I know someone can build a cab file that will uninstall the MS one and replace with the newest widcomm stack.
I LOVE my universal but I carry TWO phones with me because the universal's connection via bluetooth is not PERFECT for phone calls like the blackberry (oh i fking hate the blackberry for everything else).
I REALLY REALLY REALLY want to use only my Universal but the static on bluetooth KILLS me because I am on the phone 10 hours a day.

I would second Fish's comments about the Univerasl and the Bluetooth stack. I have bluetooth in my car and it is great WHEN it works. When it doesn't work it takes a lot of tinkering to get the car to recognize the phone again. I'm of course not sure if the issue is on the Universal side, but Bluetooth turns it self off, so there is some kind of problem. I have tried different radios, currently 1.13 (tried 1.14 as well, but went back). I'm very interested in finding a solution (not using two phones), can you please provide some detail on what the CAB file does to Bluetooth?

This is a Stack changer to change from MS BT stack to Cambridge Silicon Radio BT stack. Originally developed for Dell AXIM (about what I've found). Seems to work fine there, but need to uninstall/reinstall after every soft-reset because of a volume lock bug.

I installed the Hermes Widcomm BT stack on my Universal. Sound is great, but the rest is troublesome. We need a developer to fix the code for us so it works on the UNiversal .

Tried out BT Stack change for Hermes patch/program.
TEST RESULTS ON UNIVERSAL WITH WM6 (Midget aka Helmi unreleased)
Sound IS great. But other than that, this program does not work very well on my device. Of course this is designed for Hermes but I gave it a shot.
Issues:
1:
Screen flickers (only when this BT is turned on).
Flickers really bad and unable to use device.
Fix: set the device to standby (power button) and wake it up again. Flickering gone
2:
Once BT is deactivated for a few minutes I can't start it again.
Fix: No fix found yet. Only a Soft-reset and directly activate BT works.
3:
I can't use my GSM/UMTS connection anymore. Trying endlessly. Even after soft-reset's I can't connect. WiFi works fine though.
Fix: No fix found yet.
4:
Unable to uninstall this program. Tried several times. I get to the "Soft Reset Device Yes/Cancel". I soft reset, program still there and working.
5:
Hard-Reset, complete setup with WAP, MMS, MAIL etc.
Installed Widcomm BT Stack again.
Soft-reset:
Screen flickering (fix)
No 3G/UMTS connection avalible anymore. Even when BT stack is completly shut down.
We need a specific one for our Universal. Who's up to fixing this for us?

I changed the channel in the registry of the device to channel 5 as suggested on that webpage. It was the same quality. I then tried a few other channels and the same results - connection quality still staticy.

I'm also worried with the same issue, because I've exactly the same problem. But I don't think only altering of BT stack should fix the problem. My understanding is, something is also to be done in radio (rom) side itself. Because I was using a different radio rom last year at about May or June and my BT headset worked perfect. But I can't remember now about what build that was, because later on I've updated my radio to few other releases.
Radio rom has NOTHING to do with the Bluetooth or Wifi - It's ONLY the firmware for the GSM chip.

We know the MS BT stack is crappy. I found out today that Helmi_c is developing one. But, still, this thread should be more about how to resolve the BT stack change (or just shut it until our friend Helmi_c finishes his school stuff and gets back to being the ROM-N3rd in need of more RAM that we all love so much) than bringing up more issues about the MS BT stack.

guys,tried almost all roms on my universal,some of them works a few days,after 3 months i flashed with the good old official rom,better and stable than all
anyway,the only reason for this waste of time was this a2dp issue,being not able to listen music to my motorokr(tested with 2 laptops and 2 htc,working great)
so i think is just some kind of incompatibility motorokr-universal(yes,i try all the a2dp hacks/registry editing found here

TT6 using A2DP?

Hi, I've been experimenting with A2DP on my own Prophet and a friends Wizard. We've sorted streaming music wirlessly without skipping. Seems to work OK However we would like to somehow get the TT voice instructions broadcast over BT too. Is this a bit of a struggle with these underpowered machines or does it just require a couple more tweaks?

Trouble with Wifi and Bluetooth at same time

I've searched around for this and can't find anything, so maybe someone can help to point me in the right direction or let me know that at least the problem is known but not fixed yet.
I can't get Wifi and Bluetooth to work on my 8525 with WM6, currently using Schap's 3.54c rom and radio version 1.48.
I have motorola s805 stereo bluetooth headphones and would like to stream radio over my work's wifi and hear it on my headphones.
The problem is Neither wifi or bluetooth work reliably when used at the same time, (no problems individually). I have even tried reducing the bit pool, but can't take it below 24 because it sounds to bad then, but it still doesn't work.
Anyone have any ideas or can at least verify you have the same problem?
I have the same issue when trying to play internet radio over wifi with my ht820 a2dp linked to the jasjam (Sleuths v2 rom). The only time i ever got a2dp and wifi streaming to work was with the widcomm bt driver that is now extinct.
Thus i have come to the conclusion that the problem is not with the hw but has more to do with the standard ms bt stack.
If anyone has found a workaround please do share

I find that with bluetooth turned on I can associate to my Cisco AP at all. As soon as I turn Bluetooth off it works fine.
I had hoped my issue was due to the way the particular WM6 was put together but now Im using offical Dopod and it is the same.

I'm not sure where it came from, but I installed it and so far I can use IE while connected to my home wireless network, and listen to music on my headphones.
The com manager will not show bluetooth as being on, but go to settings-bluetooth and you can re-pair.
Currently I'm getting some hiccups, but its working at least. I'll keep you updated and I would still like to see a rom that incorporates this stack so that the com manager works right.
It also changes the headset icon on the top bar.

AVRCP problems
I didn't notice this at first, but after the widcomm stack has been installed the AVRCP functions don't work... so Im going back.

It works in WMP, just not audiomanager anymore.

If you install that cab above, don't uninstall it, you'll get bricked.
