hi all,
i have an mda compact 3, which is being a pest!
i have duplicates of many numbers and email addresses which i dont need, i have deleted them several times (takes ages as there is a lot of duplicates) but when i have to soft reset the phone the numbers i deleted all return!
how can i stop this from happening?
regards
I found that having numbers stored on my SIM card made duplicates for me. I ended up taking a chance and deleting them from the SIM and now I just have one set of my contacts. Not sure if you are experiencing the same thing...

Hi,
I'm having a problem with the contacts on my Qtek 9090. Most of my contacts only have a first name. Although I hadn't paid much attention, I didn't have much of a problem with this, contacts seemed to show up fine in both contacts and the quickdial list of the Phone app.
It seems that ever since I installed Pocket Informant 5.5 I've been having real problems with my one name contacts. Although PI deals with them fine, they now seem to show up as blank name fields in the original contacts app and even worse, I only get the phone number in the dialed list of the phone app.
I tried removing PI but nothing changed. Anyone have any ideas as to why this happened and how I can fix it?
Thanks,
Dimitri
2 totally separate phones (dash's) one with Rogers and one with stock Tmo WM6. Hard restart all contacts disappear! Since in their infinite wisdom you cant disable the sim contacts from showing, I rely on them STAYING in the phone memory! Anyone else with this issue? It has happened only twice in maybe 4 months, but is very frustrating!
Thanks for any advice!
A hard reset will restore the phone to factory default (no contact list). It's supposed to do that. Keep your contacts synchronized via outlook and activesync.
Sorry, I was lying when I typed hard reset. I yanked the battery so it wasnt exactly a soft reset but I did not do the clear storage either I guess next time it locks up I will be more patient!

You should be syncing your phone with your contact list on your PC or exchange server if you are lucky enough to have one. This is one of the most basic things you can do on a smartphone. What if you lost your phone???
I do sync. But I dont take my computer with me either. So today, all day, I was without contacts. Now they are back caused I sync'd.
I guess we should be telling people that want louder call volume to get a hearing aid and people that want to run another ROM to buy the right phone
backup
I use Sprite Backup for said problem and its golden. Simply make backups of your data on the go and when things happen like say an impossible to stop boot loop or a data error, you can still restore everything.
I guess I am just the kind of person that would rather look at the root of the problem, not the band-aid repair after it happens again. I will look into the backup, but I will probably just carry my spare deactivated sim card so I can transfer stuff back if it fails me again.
So does anyone know a way to KEEP the contacts on the sim, yet hide them from view on the contacts list? It surpirses me that something my 8 year old Nokia does WM6 wont let you do . I have never accidentally lost my sim contacts- but the duplicate thing is annoying
The rogers rom for the htc s621 (dash) allows you to hide sim contacts without a registry edit. goto settings then phone... you'll find it there.
also there is a reg edit for said issue for roms that don't offer this option. I have not personally found a smartphone rom without this option but the regedit is: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Phone]
"ShowSIM"=dword:00000001 ->0 to disable, 1 to enable.
Now you can keep your contacts on your activated SIM.
THANK YOU!!! I had not realized Rogers did this!
Found the check box under Settings/Phone/Call Options
This is a culmination of my previous threads. I've realised I'm not going to get an answer to each of my current problems so I'm going to have to hard reset and start from scratch. Which is just what I needed.
Summary of my problems:
- Speed dial numbers tell me the number doesn't exist, but then calls it anyway
- Can't add new speed dial numbers
- Can't add new contacts full stop
- MSN doesn't work
- Can't sync contacts (or anything for that matter)
So I am going to hard reset - but my problem is I need a way to back up my contacts, I don't want to be manually typing in dozens upon dozens of names and numbers. I have tried PPCPimBackup, but this doesn't seem to back up those stored on my SIM (most of my contacts are on my SIM). I can't find a way to move my contacts to the phone from the SIM - "Save to contacts" in SIM Manager tells me it was successfully added, but it wasn't - there is no Outlook version of that contact.
What can I do about this? Is there a way I can back up my contacts, bearing in mind that syncing doesn't seem to copy them onto my computer and PPCPimBackup only seems to back up Outlook contacts? I do have an SPB Backup of my PIM stuff from when I was on WM5, but that's what has caused this problem, trying to restore it. I have tried searching these forums for other ways to back them up but it's like finding a needle in a haystack. Is there a program that can read PIM.vol?
What on earth should I do? Or is physically writing down all my 100+ contacts then typing them in (and losing all my stored SMS) my only option?
Device: O2 XDA Orbit, as out of the box in July, then upgraded to WM6 with the O2 official thing.
Computer: Vista Ultimate x32, Outlook 2007.
Somebody correct me if I'm wrong but surly if your numbers are on your SIM they shouldn't be effected by a hard reset.
If your worried take the sim out before you try it??
hard reset won't remove anything from your SIM
Hi everyone
Did the staple searching on XDA and managed to find some info on my problem but after a bit of playing my issue is still not resolved.
As it stands I have about 100+ friends linked. This was done automatically when the TP2 does a name match with those on your facebook account.
All ok so far, but a couple of my friends all of a sudden have stop updating on the tp2 even after pressing update now (profile pic and status). Some are working as usual.
These friends are stilll my friends on facebook, appear linked and can be relinked and they have not changed there name.
So i tried delinking and relinking these friends individually, soft reseting and trying another update. - No Joy.
So then I backed up and deleted FacebookInfo.vol (as per other threads). All the links to friends on my account remained. The tp2 rebuilt the FacebookInfo.vol and eventually had some "status" data on the "update and events" tab after an update now. However my friends that wont update remained the same.
I then tried the above again, but first deleteing my facebook account from the tp2 and unlinking the friends with the issues. After the soft reset post file deletion I then relinked these friends - once again no joy.
So my question is this. How do i completely remove all facebook data and start again? There must be some registery or some volume file that links the contacts to your facebook contact that can be deleted along with facebookinfo.vol so that it would have to re link all friends and redownload all facebook data.
Any hints tips suggestions welcome
Anyone has any suggestions?
Facebook issues tilt 2 (at&t touch pro 2)
Wondered if you ever found any secret to getting Facebook app on TP 2 to wwork correctly..
It is just so inconsistant , biggest problem is with photo links. Almost none of my facebook friends photos will display .
Some do, then don't.
I also would like to clean out all facebook info and have TF3d just do the links all over agin.
Thanks for any update

Hi all,
for a while back I had a problem with my Desire where it suddenly started asking for my PIN code continuously, loosing connections and all. I did a full reset on the phone then synced it with my PC again (Outlook 2007).
After this I don't know what's happened but all phone numbers that used to be in international format, i.e. +31631231231 turned into numbers like 31631231231, i.e. without the +, and in a number of cases spaces were added, making it look like 31 631231231. Some of these seem to work as they are, but many are giving me error when I try to call the contact or send an sms or so.
In addition I noticed that many of my contacts somehow are doubles, linked to eachother
No idea how this happened or why, anybody who does? And, more importantly, anybody who knows how to solve it?
Cheers

Did I run into a unique problem (again) ?
i would do from scratch, write all contacts down and delete all contacts on phone, and retype them as google contacts.
with over 250 contacts...
What's the advantage with Google contacts over SIM/Phone contacts?
One part of the problem might be that the phone during it's previous installation at some point imported info from Facebook as well I think - sucks.
i feel the pain
advantage is: better sync **** etc.....
