Released Today: Pocket Quicken for WM Smartphone! - HTC Excalibur

Finally -- financial sync for WM Smartphones! FYI -- the product page mentions WM5 -- but it's working great on my WM6 Dash -- 30 trial can be found at: https://www.landware.com/pocketquicken/wmsp/
FYI -- brings over investment balances only, not transactions or register; would be kinda nice if you could get share price updates, and have them update your Pocket Quicken -- but really not a deal-breaker. It's very nice to be able to capture debit & credit card purchases on-the-spot

YES! At last, my prayers have been answered!! I have been waiting for this for the past 2 years.

Cool. Just when I switch to PPC from Smartphone they release this. damn

It was already available for PPC -- you're covered either way now.

Instead it uses low-cost semiconductor-based sensors. Mr Spare says this means the company can sell the technology to the manufacturers of mobile devices for about $35. He expects it to be available in the first half of 2003.

As i said in a previous post, these are so new the manufacturer hasnt started selling them yet!! they appear to be research and development units. buy one if you like but if you need service or tech support you will be in deep s**t.

O2 AKU 3, when?

Does anyone know when O2 is likely, if ever, to release a AKU3 ROM? Heard some good things, and not so good things, but would welcome the upgrade.
Answers on a postcard please
Univerval is EOL so not shure we will see an official AKU3 ROM
EOL???????
What do you guys recommend then????
Nokia N95 looks pretty cool!!!
I have upgraded my exec to AKU 3.2 and it works a treat, I seem to have lost task manager but gained other apps such as usb hdd option, I've had no hick ups yet.
mark,
can you give me rough guide of how you did this?
Thanks
No further AKUs for O2 customers then...?????????

You did not miss an announcment, you just missed the obvious signs. The MDA Pro is dropped from T-Mobile's catalog, the Qtek 9000 is increasingly difficult to come by. The Universal device is around a year old. That's ancient for a PDA. It's successor has not been announced yet, but rumours are already to be heard ...
Manufacturers just rarely announce this kind of thing in order to make sure that old stocks can be sold.

How do you go about connecting a Mass Storage Device to the Univesal on AKu 3.2? Do i need any special cable or something?
Keen to know, before I even upgrade to it.
So where to now..... I like the VGA, I like the keyboard and I can live with the other problems to have the first 2????
So where do we go from here. Don't know about anyone else but I like the format of the XDA EXEC ie keyboard and VGA etc and can put up with the faults...........
Anyone in the know as to what would be considered an upgrade?

There is no way to directly connect a HDD to the Uni. It doesn't support USB hosting.
There is a topic of someone who says they have a Wi-Fi caddy connecting to the device and using it that way:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=280193
wait a second!
I e-mailed O2 to ask whether they are planning to release any new ROMS and got the following response:
"Thank you for your email.
At the moment we don’t have any information on whether or not a ROM version with the AKU3 will be available for the XDA Exec. We are usually advised of a new ROM for the XDA series 4-6 weeks prior to their release but we haven’t heard anything yet. As the XDA Exec hasn’t reached the end of its life cycle there should be a new ROM versions released.
If you have any further queries please contact us."

Sounds as if the Universal isn't EOL after all. Do you think it's Microsoft holding the process up or HTC?

YEAH!
Sweet, I agree and disagree (yes and no)
Yes (agree) XDA EXEC is a year old ..... but
there is nothing like it on the market still .... No (disagree)
Is there life in the old dog yet???????????????????

Could the XDA Flame be the replacment that we are all looking for??
"The Xda Flame encapsulates everything the O2 brand stands for - innovation and performance in a sleek, beautiful, desirable package. The Xda Flame breaks technology barriers by being the first dual processor PDA-phone, incorporating the powerful NVIDIA GoForce GPU for sublime screen graphics, movie playback, photo viewing, and gaming performance, on top of a 520MHz Intel processor chip. A large 3.6' VGA touchscreen and a host of multimedia features ensure that customers stay productive and are entertained while on the go."

WM6 Annoucned Officaly and Dash Owners Get WM6 Upgrade!

First off the news comes from MSMobiles.com (great site, bookmark it)
http://msmobiles.com/news.php/6049.html
Check out the site for the full story but here is what I found to be interesting.
MSMobiles.com:
"Now it is not just a mention on a blog of some Microsoft employee but official story from Microsoft! Interestingly some Windows Mobile phones powered by Windows Mobile 5.0 will be upgradeable to Windows Mobile 6, including T-Mobile Dash (i.e. HTC Excalibur)!"
From the Official MS Press Release:
"...By the second quarter of this year, the world will see the first Windows Mobile 6 powered devices available on the market. In Europe, Orange plans to deliver the SPV E650 smartphone from HTC, and in Japan, SoftBank Mobile Corp. will offer new devices from Toshiba and HTC. And in the United States, the popular T-Mobile Dash will be updated with Windows Mobile 6 and be available in the coming months. Current T-Mobile Dash owners will also be able to upgrade existing devices with Windows Mobile 5.0 to Windows Mobile 6. "
Current T-Mobile Dash owners will be able to upgrade existing devices with Windows Mobile 5.0 to Windows Mobile 6."
Again, all this info can be found at the link above so go check out the rest of it.

yeah, but you have to hit your screen with a hammer for the touchscreen to register
More importantly, HTC will be releasing the WM6 upgrade as well. I hate carrier branding... and PINK.

Yep, Proffesional is for Touchscreen devices, Standard for Smartphones (non-touchscreen) and Classic for PDA's with no phone functionality...It's a shame, it would be nice to edit office documents on a smartphone...oh well

I believe one of the big things with WM6 is that it has smartphone office apps. I could be wrong but I am pretty sure engadget was talking about this the other day.

WM6 Standard does come with some Office editing, but not as much as WM6 Pro.
either way, it will be nice. it is very rare that a new os is being offered for an older device, but a good change of pace.
It's really not that old. It's had a very limited release and there hasn't been the first hint of a FW update.
I was hoping we would luck out. Looks like we did!
-Mc
WD6 (STD) just made The Dash the best out!
You will be able to edit office documents with WM6 (STD)
Just got done with a webinar focusing on the WM6 upgrade (he used a dash for the demo). Interesting thing was he used the s620 FW on the dash. Maybe they hate xt9 as much as we do!
Anybody want a copy of the presentation in .pdf format?

PM me!
I am sure that Microsoft is trying to establish the same flexibility with their PDA OS as they have with the PC OS. No reason why an OS should be upgradable.

it's on XDA's FTP site in the uploads folder.
There's nothing earth shattering in it. In the middle of his presentation he showed a bunch of stuff on his Dash (running generic excalibur WM6) which was cool but the rest was kind of old news for those of us running crossbow already.
Worth checking out though...

8525 to get downloadable WM6 Update

According to this Engadget article, it looks like the 8525 will get a WM6 downloadable update.
But I don't think it will be available until the June or July timeframe. And besides, it isn't nearly as fun as the versions available to us here! (And you'll probably have to pay for it! )
You beat me to it!
http://www.betanews.com/article/Cingular_Users_to_Get_Windows_Mobile_6_Upgrade/1175012289
same new on BetaNews; article doesn't mention release date nor whether it will be free or otherwise...

Quote from the article:
At the CTIA Wireless tradeshow this week, Microsoft announced that AT&T (formerly Cingular) will be providing Windows Mobile 6 as a free upgrade to current customers using the Samsung Blackjack, HTC 8525, or Palm Treo 750. AT&T is the first wireless carrier to confirm such plans.
missed that ...
Sir, I stand corrected
would a 18 hour work day be a valid excuse ? haha
As tester for "legal" user, may I propose a voucher for XDA-Dev community for free upgrade ?
Seems very true for WM6 (check how many WM6 rom before WM6 availability)
Cheers
Oh WOW. So in three or 4 months we might be able to run WM6 on our 8525's. That's what I'd be saying if the excellent members of this excellent site hadn't already made that available to us in several wonderful flavors! Instead I'll be saying... WM6? Yeah, been using it for MONTHS now. Glad to hear the rest of you finally caught up!

anybody know what the difference between this new program and Blackberry Connect is? hopefully this is the solution i'm looking for as my carrier (Rogers) doesn't support BBC and therefore I can't use it at work
The Register had a story today about this and it was specifically named as Blackberry Connect.. it sounds like its just what everyone here already has to me but maybe an updated version for WM6

I agree completely. RIM may still be growing, but as WM6 rolls out on new devices, and Exchange 2007 grabs a foothold, savvy CIO's will be hard pressed to justify spending the extra bucks on RIM software, maintenance and "support". Hell, it took them three days to admit that they had made a change that brought down the house. Rediculous!
