To: developers who have dealt with Spb Mobile Shell.
I would like to have only one more profile in Mobile Shell: vibro and ring together (something similar to the "loud" profile in Spb Phone Suite.)
If I would add somehow this new profile to the existing three ones, I could uninstall Phone Suite that eats up a lot of memory and practically I use only the Profiles feature of it.
If someone had a suggestion, maybe a registry tweak, or some workabout, I would appreciate the help.
cheers

Daft question!
I know this is probably a daft question but have you set the ring type in;
Start>settings>phone ...to ring and vibrate?
I did 'hack' the profiles in the registry...
Instead of the three profiles I have one icon that starts 'scenarios', which I believe is software from ETEN...it came with my rom. It basically has four customisable profiles.
I will see if I can find the cab file for this and the reg settings if you like.
Andy.
[edit]
Here's a cab file that installs the ETEN phone suite...it should be a lot smaller than SPB phone suite! I've included the reg hack that enables the scenarios option in SPB shell. Enjoy!
Thanks a lot, Andy.
I also used Scenarios but -- if I remember well -- it took more than 1 MB, so after a while I uninstalled it.
I'll give your version a try, maybe this will be the right solution for me.
But the best one would be to have a fourth icon in Mobile Shell Profiles menu that would allow toggle between 'ring and vibrate' or just 'ring'.

maybe change ringtone script?
I have found on the wiki pages that there is a possibility to change rigtone/vibrate chacteristics in 'HCKU\ControlPanel\Sounds\RingTone0\Script'.
But I don't know how to create a small app (or use an existing one) for changing from one script to another and back just by activating a shortcut.
Please, help me if somebody has an idea. (I am a simple user but I like fine-tuning my device-- if I can...)
Thanks,
ctibor

Yes, I know. Currently I use Phone Suite with Mobile Shell.
But my orginal point was to replace Phone Suite with a simpler and smaller app, while maintaining the possibility to have more than 3 profiles. If I were satisfied with 3 profiles, I would'nt need any other than Mobile Shell.
Phone Suite also makes the device slower (you know, Artemis is not the fastest HTC phone at all...)

If you want just profiles, than have a look at SBSH Phoneweaver
perhaps PocketZenPhone? it is a freeware application with profiles that are extremely cutomizable. possibly TOO customizable, as that was what made it too daunting to me, and made me switch over to SPB Phone Suite. It may be up your alley though, it's a VERY light application (only an 88kb cab)

Hello guys, I though it would be a good idea to list some of the best practices as far as cleaning up old files and general smartphone maintenance for the Dash and others.
So who wants to kick it off
uh
hmm besides the usual free memory button that i love to use.. my usual reg tweaks that i have done usually fix some stuff.. but i dont know too much else.. it isnt like you can defrag the b$%ch lol.
1. Free Memory
2. Celetask
3. SkTools --a must have
4. Restart (soft reset)
then Repeat lol!
Sktools - run auto clean then free ram
free memory
clear temp
reboot
The best way to clean all the crap up is to brew your own lite ROM. I just finished an Excalibur ROM based on the latest 20279 core. The homescreen looks like the S740 and the new dialer and comm manager are sweet! It works pretty well so far, but I wanna wait until tomorrow at least to release it to do some early beta testin...
looking forward to it !!!!!!!
Excellent post so far, I also use SK Tools and I have found it to be indispensable, with all the add/remove applications registries are updated and sometimes not re-updated when the applications are deleted. I suppose the best way would be to reflash your unit and load up all the apps you know you will use but that maybe a bit on the extreme side. I'm currently working on a list of all my apps and registration codes to quickly upload them to my unit just in case.
Here is the url for SK Tools http://www.s-k-tools.com/
I also personally love CeleTask not only as a quick launcher but a good tool overall
Can someone elaborate on their use of Celetask besides the "Free Memory" function.
Quick Tip for Celetask Status Bar
How to put the status bar to top?
Edit the Registry value HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\CeleTask\Flag, add the original value by 1 (e.g. 502 to 503)
enjoy
Anyone care to give a step by step on using SKTools? How, for example, does one autoclean? How else do you guys use it? I have version v. 3.1.9 installed, and also have SKTools Lite available, though not installed.

Auto Clean! should be in your start menu.
Nope... The only thing added to my Start Menu is SKTools. Within SKTools, I get to a screen where I can select various tools such as Clean, Optimize, Tune Up, etc...

WMRegOptimizer - v0.1, October 6, 2008
This small tool was originally inspired by this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=432966
About
WMRegOptimizer is a small tool that tries to optimize registry access - "defrag" it, if you will. It doesn't perfectly defrag it, but it goes a long way. This results in somewhat faster registry access for applications where this is the bottle-neck.
So this speeds up my device?
Not really. It lowers latency for certain system calls, which may result in some things being a bit faster. It doesn't magically make your device faster, but it may be more responsive in some situations.

no it cant be used as a panel
I´ll wait for the Xperia one , thats generic for all .
it is very good, however the lifestyle wallpaper options are a bit limited, i copied one of the pictures and edited it to be black. I have to say it is a huge improvement on the previous version
Great program and totally workable outside of the panel interface. The today panel just replaces the need for a dedicated SPB panel, the only inconvenience being that it still runs in the background while other applications are active of course.
The only significant flaw and it is an annoying one, is that utilizing the facebook integration if you have a significant number of friends makes the phone almost unusable. I have close to 800 contact on FB and my phone literally takes 30-90 seconds to respond to input if I utilize any aspect of the facebook integration. If a name is not detected as associated automatically and you must select, it also makes you scroll through an entire graphical list. A task which can take 5 minutes instead of the 5 seconds it would if they let you type the contact name or search within your friends.
For myself the FB integration was an important features I am hoping they are able to better test and correct the existence of this behavior.
Dont work as a panel ?
Is it possible to keep the today screen of windows mobile ?
Sure, you can use the regular windows mobile today screen, and have SPB mobile shell as a program rather than as a panel. In fact, that's what I did with the previous version of mobile shell. I always found it to be a bit laggy as a panel, but it works great as a program.
I've just installed the trial version, and will likely buy it after trying it out for awhile. Looks great so far! I use TF3D, and it's one of the programs in my programs tab, so that I can access it quickly.
How about memory and speed
I've an old P3600. For me is very important to install programs that are speed and light. How about theese features between SPB Shell 2.15 (in use on my ppc) and 3.0?
Thanks

Anyone disabled TF3D and kept the original WM home screen interface? I personally disabled it and kept the original interface even though I don't like how the WM SMS look. I disabled it because I don't like the default TF3D colors and I tried changing it black, but it's a no go. I don't know why! I did change the background and the drop menu all black which looks pretty neat since anything black looks good. What I really want is the WM6.5 Zune interface so I can't wait for WM6.5 official release!!!
Let us know what you have.
TF3D does not appeal to me!
TF3D is pretty, so people "oooo" and "aaah" over the phone and buy it.
However, I still think that TF3D is a bunch of useless kitsch that gets in the way of actually using the phone effectively. After a few hours of it interfering with what I want to do, I turned it off. (At least this time it took a few hours and not a few minutes.)
This is especially true of the messaging (it's just in the way), and the photo album. (who wants to see tiny, slanted, distorted versions of the pictures?) It's been a while, so I cannot remember the other specific things that annoyed me.
TF3D was the first thing I disabled on the device... I don't like that I cannot choose my own programs and way of working.
I use Wisbar Advance and Wisbar Desktop
on my personal Touch HD I much prefered the TouchFLo interface to the standard windows one - saying that, that was running a Dutty ROM
However on my work TP2 - I have it disabled as it gets in the way of my business apps - i.e. MS Communicator etc.
TF3D has bad things an good things.
The biggest failure and that's why TF3D is just crap is because it's not intuitive and easy to use. Way to many steps to get things done, pretty useless taskbar (exepts for the killing programs part). You can do to much information on one screen at the same time and too little. It's nice that they include things like a calendar, but it's pretty useless and in many ways TF3D makes the use of third party software actually harder.
The very good things about touchflo 3d is the push pages, the scheduels, and the best thing is the fueture to see all of your conversation with one contact. I really love it. Next to that it's snappy and pretty.
Well I treid SPB mobile shell 3, but it just doesn't do it. Also many features, but the fact is: when I use my phone it's to get something done pretty quickly. I just want to be able that I have a good view of all the info I need (messages, appointments) in the least ammount of time and to be able to do something in little time. The regular wm is just very easy. Start - settings/programs - choose- done.
Seeing my messages when there is a new one I get a popup and pres view and I there. I do not have to click the task baar. Get a new screen there push on the button, then being transported to the touchflo tab and then have to choose the message.
THats 2 clicks vs 4/5 clicks.
I kept the default TF3d for now, as soon as the official WM 6.5 ROM will be available, I'll switch to the Titanium UI.

An interesting 'Widget' based replacement for TF3D I came on when I was looking around on XDA.
"FEWidgets Ultimate" by nicodega.
It replaces TF3D completely as a 'Today' plugin.
Basically one just has to install the CAB.
(Note: it will not show up under All Programs, but as a Today plugin only)
> Go into Settings> Today>
> Remove check next TF3D
> Enable Check next to FEWidgets Ultimate
Two versions- Large widgets and Small Widgets for anyone who needs a whole bunch of widgets.
I did try it out on my TMO TP2 and both versions basically work when I tested each separately.
Though I haven't tried fine-tuning each widget for my TP2 yet.
Enjoy.
i kept my TP1 and gave the TP2 to Dad whose TmoWing crapped out. Had to disable TF3D for him today. The last straw was contacts/call history will not allow you to dial out, it's link to the phone dialer was broken or something. I don't know if this is a result of a tweak I did or if the Tmo's TF3D version has a bug. After disabling TF3D, you can press the contacts again to call out. For future reference, anyone know the cause/solution?
Like above guy said, now I need a replacement for tf3d. The last version of BatteryStatus that I used was 1.04build266 from this time last year, which has since been replaced by HomeScreenPlusPlus or something like that. Anyone know of a stable version for the TP2? Stable enough for Dad?
Today Plugins
I kept the default TF3D, but with HDWall, because I love the eye-candy of the interface and I find it very intuitive to use. I have also tried other today plugins, such as PointUI Home 2, FEWidgetsUltimate and iPhonetoday, but none of them felt as smooth and easy to use as TF3D for me. Out of the other interfaces I tried I find FEWidgetsUltimate to be the best.
LINK - iPhoneToday
LINK - FEWidgetsUltimate
LINK - HDWall
LINK - PointUI
EDIT: On my previous device I tried SPB Mobile Shell - LINK
I also got rid of TF3D. IMHO that is eye candy for people who don't know how to use a computer - and that is still a large number of people out there using phones. W/o TF3D I get things quicker done and have more flexibility to set up the phone the way I use it best.

Thanks for the link! HDWall and Mobileshell looks nice.
It is VERY usefull for me! I can't use without! I'm bored by WinMo interface.
I too found TF obtrusive and unintuitive so switched it off. I used to use SPB Mobile Shell on the Kaiser and liked it, but I'm a bit fed up of the way it doesn't integrate with Informant and Flexmail, so I'm back to the WM interface and don't miss all the bloat.
Hey there
I just installed Spb Finance on my blackstone with duttys R14 and when I open the spb finance entry app (already modified for my resolution with the dskin file) it shows error: Can not initialize main dialog!
Does anyone else encounter this?
Is there a way to fix that?
Thanks
same problem here.. any solutions?
I also have the problem...
... my machine is a HTC Diamond 2 with a newly loaded Win 6.5 ROM. Before SPB Finance was running without problems. Has somebody any idea? Thanks!
So it seems to be a problem with all WM6.5
Known problem in WVGA devices, not just 6.5! You need to search the SPB main site and download a new skin for this finance entry sub-program. This may be in the "Sticky" section of the Pocket Finance forum. Hope this helps.
Alan
Folks, I have been using SPB Finance v2.8.0 fine up to Dutty's Leo R4, which runs on wm6.5. It also ran fine with 6.1 stock and various cooked roms. Never had the problem you've mentioned.
Found this
Alan
I've already tried everything, but without any success - same error msg. I use XTROM GridLeo 1.8.1. Before that, I've had the original WM6.1 rom and after fixing d_skin file it did work. But now, it doesn't.
thanks Alanjp3. it is vga skin, but works.
While the skin worked with my Sprint HTC Touch Pro2 on the WM6.1 Rom, it does NOT work on the WM6.5 ROM.
SPB does not support this product any more.
Has anyone here got a solution on how to run this on a 6.5 ROM?
Thanks folks!!
try winmoFinance....very simple app, gives you what you need...
I changed to that and am OK for the basic money in my pocket tracking

Yes, that's what I'm using now as well. Works great, though I have one little gripe: In order to see my balances through the today plugin: does anyone know what the shortcut / command parameter to that is? It's so much faster than to have to open the whole program to see the balance.
Another thing: With Cash Organizer I seem to have to buy the program each time I change devices. Is that normal, or am I doing something wrong?
Tried other options too, like WinMoFinance - but it doesn't do what I need it to do. I need to sync 2 PPCs with MSMoney, and the Quick Entry screen is a must by now.
Thanks to all who keep looking!
spbFinance seems to work, sort of
Facing similar problems in upgrading to HD2, I enquired of spb and got this helpful answer that might be of use to others:
"Unfortunately SPB Finance has not been updated for several years, and currently I am not able to promise that it will be updated soon.
SPB Finance does not fully support recent Windows Phones, like HTC HD2. The main application will basically work, but the additional one SPB Finance Entry will not."
I haven't ever used the SPB Finance Entry route, so I stand a chance of getting the main program to work, especially if using a DAgi stylus.
The Cash Organiser program generates a Product ID number that is keyed to the PDA, probably not the Owner Name as lot of product ids do (in which case it would be portable if you use the same owner name) ore likely the PDA UUID in which case it is a new Reg Key for each PDA. That makes it pretty difficult when it comes to upgrading machines so I give software with that kind of protection a miss.
Yup, Inesoft's Cash Organizer is out for us too.
- I change devices often (also have my weekend diamond), and I would have to write in and have them send me a new key each time I change my device. A no go for me.
-the program has at times trouble syncing and when it sees conflicts, just creates a fictitious account on the pda. And even when I erase the account, is keeps it in it's guts and recreates it each time I try to sync again.
Thank you much for posting your correspondence with spb.
Ive been a previous tilt owner for about 2 years and I just upgraded to the tilt 2. First thing I did was install spb mobile shell. I think its so much better then touchflo 3d. Im also using the kaiser tweaks. Ive never looked into using different ROM's. I think im nervous about installing something like that.
Ive noticed when leaving the phone on overnight (about 8 hours) it uses 10% battery life. The original tilt would use 1-2%. I dont have email set-up (ive heard that eats battery life), why is the phone using so much battery life?
There seems to be so much memory being used right when the phone turns on. About 113 megs. I feel like the phone runs pretty fast but I know it can run faster. Is using cooked ROM my only choice here?
I mainly use the phone for the internet and text messages. Im using opera mini 5. Is there any way delete opera mobile or is that integrated into the phone like internet explorer is? How can I make opera mini the "default" web browser?
I used the kaiser tweaks to enable HSPDA. Right after I did this, I noticed the "H" icon but after I restarted, it went away and hasnt come back? Any reason for this? I looked at the "tilt 2 data speed fix 1.0.cab" but when I goto start/settings/connections/advanced network there is no option to enable HSPDA. Only PAP and CHAP
How do I remove some of the programs on the phone that I never plan to use?
THANKS
Welcome aboard
I recommend installing a cooked ROM, it´s faster than any stock ROM and you will get rid of all garbage that slows your Rhodium.

A lot of the programs on there (including the default opera install) are cooked into the stock ROM and are unremovable, unfortunately.
However, Crud Scraper will help clear out a lot of the stuff AT&T slipped in on top of the ROM. It won't get rid of everything you'll never use, but it can still clear a fair amount of space for you.
I'd like to add that it has been my experience, that frequent use of the internet does drain the battery much more quickly.
If you go cooked, choose your rom wisely. Some are configured more for business while others are more for fun.
I haven't done it myself, as I don't go online too much, but I have heard that sending your cache to your sd will help. Again, I haven't tried it myself, but Advanced Config (if my memory is right) does this, so does MemMaid.
Finally reclaim your ram throughout the day, shut down programs that may be running in the background, but that you are not currently using, and make minor adjustments and tweaks which will help you consume less resources, which will in turn help save your life.
