OK, sorry, most of the games listed in there were trial versions or things like bible readers (freeware), wasn't trying to piss anyone off, I took it down, also note that I said I HADN'T downloaded it.

cool i'll chk it out, thanks for helpin!

Guys, come on
1. This is a WM6 forum, its not about games
2. I guess posting warez is not the best idea
Admin, please close this thread and delete the warez advice

In that case Gerald you would have to delete all threads pertaining to such things as HTC-X button, and applications like that.. since they too .. are .. WAREZ ..

i don't believe x-button is warez as it is freeware (from what i have researched) none the less it isn't an app that is being sold that someone is getting for free.

lol neither are games, alot of them are freeware... actually, just about all of them are freeware trial versions and if you want to purchase it, you can purchase it.

Hmmmmmm.
Disagreed
Its not possible to buy HTC X Button (or Audio Manager and so on) because its not for sale. Its for free and part of HTC devices.

that is possible, but most times they end up containing some kind of serial or crack, if they are indeed ALL freeware or just trials, then by all means

These type of apps are not common to all HTC devices and carriers so if you carriers do not include them and you install them, then you are technically not paying for them so it is like warez.
That being said, it is Wednesday here in Austin. What gives with the grumpiness on here? It is raining here but it is summer and we welcome rain (though we are about 20cm over so far for the entire year).
Okay, I am off my technical post LOL
Have a good day all

There's another difference between warez and things like htc x button:
warez are cracked or they are coming with a keygen
And now he's posting warez again......
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1325237#post1325237

Guys, frankly from a technical point of view, IP rights are IP rights, and there shouldn't be grey areas. However, the forum's position on distributing ROMs and data extracted from ROMs is fairly well known - we're fairly liberal to the point at which IP right holders tell us otherwise (see Picsel, Palm etc).
My personal view is that given that the roms reside on our devices, we usually consider the contents of the ROMs to be fair game for internal distribution - you could go and download a HTC rom, install it on your phone, extract the HTC Close Button App from it, revert back to a ROM that didn't have HTC Close Button, and hey presto, you've got the app on your phone, all above board(-ish).
On the other hand, we take a very strong view against outright piracy - there are enough places to find warez and to distribute warez. Our personal views on warez may well be different to the legal requirements on this board, so we may appear to be hypocrites on occassion, but for the good of the board as a resource to all, don't distribute warez through here. You're not doing anyone a favour in the end.

Kyphur - How do you do it???

I know this is a new post, and I'll probably get flamed etc...
But, HOW DO YOU DO IT?
You were up before 5am posting a new rom (so no sleep last night).. went to work and still carried on answering questions (good and dumb ones).. then you've got enough sense left to make a good decision NOT to include an embeded radio in WMXL AND close the thread to stop timewasters (like me)...
Go and get some sleep bcos we need you... stop posting for a few days and just watch us get screwed up and sorted out without you - you've already done the hard work, without which there would be no discussion...
Hero worship, hero worship, we're not worthy etc
I'm going to be off the forum for a few days, got to catch up on work and sleep. PM me any fixes. I'm already looking towards v0.30.
Oh yeah, if you're getting more value from your Hermes, send some support first to XDA-Dev (this place is expensive to maintain) then to the guys who came before me and if anything is left for me it's appreciated but make sure XDA and those who built the foundations I based this on get their fair share. See the list in my threads...
Long Live XDA!!!!!!!
i do have to agree!!
how on Earth have Kyphur the XDA-Devs team managed to turn my tytn from a slow WM5 pain to an awesome super speedy WM6 monster!!!
You guys are gods among mortals!
Yes, he is the man and all, don't say it too much or you will wear it off.
You know what I think we should do too? Send them some coin.
Come on guys, for all intensive purposes HTC and Microsoft where planning on screwing us by not giving us an update. Since so far their take is "Hell, you want WM6, then buy a new phone!" Yeah, like as if the TyNT is a $50 dollar candy bar.
Here come these guys and not only set the vanilla but are working on an improved version of WM6.
Even two bucks is better than just words --more is better, $5 perhaps? Show your support. I will.
Thanks for the work XDA!
You don't need to send these guys cash, they're made of money and are actually using multiple clones of themselves to work in parallel. Kyphur Mark I sleeps 20 hours a day, don't pity him. He has lost his looks though.

[Idea] - Personalized WM6 ROMs

Hi there,
Just a thought I had today:
Since the ROM chefs are working so hard and getting little donations, and since we already come to a stage where there are several stable ROMs out there, maybe it is the time to a new era - a full personalized ROM.
In my mind, a user decides based on his understanding what he wants: Cingular settings or Orange UK, Adobe Reader LE vs. Clearview, HTC X button, Fast or Large Memory, black, blue or white skin, their own splash screen etc. as long as these are free apps.
Then a ROM Chef cooks for him exactly what he asks for. User pays for that service (note: for the service, not for the ROM) 10-15 $ or so and everyone's happy. ROM Masters can cook several a day making few thousands of $$$ a month, users will have their own favourable version, XDA will be as busy as a market in a rush hour and everyone will be happy.
Comments are welcome...
IMHO, this is a bad idea. The chefs aren't doing this to make money. They do it as a hobby or something they love doing, and paying for services goes against what XDA was built around. Donations are one thing, but this shouldn't be about money.
Besides, the way most are building their ROMs currently, with a base ROM and then cabs to personalize, should suffice for those users who aren't up to cooking their own.
MS would sue them so fast it wouldn't even be funny. It would be exactly the same as sites selling 'backup CDs' of software for $5.
As soon as there is a monetary requirement for the transfer of ROMs it will get shut down.
MS puts up with XDA because it does not show up on their 'pirate-radar'. "Look like a pirate and be treated like one..."
Besides, I like it the way it is. If I am going to much with my phone I've got to learn how to use it. OS reinstalls on cell phones are not exactly something mainstream anyways.

xda-dev did show up on the pirate radar and was asked to remove the ROM's on the FTP... so we do have to be carefull with what we are 'doing'
In other forums (for other devices) you can build you own ROM by selecting what packages you want very easy, and for free.
I think this is going to be needed soon, as there are more and more requests about for ROM's to be re-developed with or without such and such.
Look at this for an example I've used myself. It's for a Blue Angel though.

I think the bigger problem would be support - once a user pays for a service he will expect and demand support for all the small problems inherent in the native Rom.
I do like the idea of the build your own application posted by Percz.
Couldn't agree more, good thought but bad idea.
In the end don't be a cheap ass, if you are using someones ROM kick them back a few bucks for some brew and don't be a cheap ass. They may do it not expecting something but if its good work you'll be using for awhile buy the guy a beer. Every little bit helps.

Welcome to xda-developers.com
This site is about certain PDA-phones, made by a firm called HTC in Taiwan. Their makers named them 'Wallaby', 'Himalaya', 'Blue Angel', 'Wizard' and 'TyTN', but almost nobody knows them by those names. The mobile provider O2 sells them under the brand-name 'XDA', and that's what we had in our hands first. They're also known as Qtek, MDA, SX-56, Hermes and many, many other names.
Since we develop software for it, we need information, and nobody seemed eager or ready to give us what we needed. So we 'reverse-engineered' the devices, found a lot of information, and shared it with the world. But as our site grew we realised that lots of ordinary users were also suffering from a lack of support. They started using the xda-developers forum to communicate and before long the forum was as much a user forum as it was a developer forum.
We hope that you will enjoy this site and find it as useful as we do. We encourage you to donate or otherwise support this site. Of course absolutely all proceeds from donations will benefit this community.

Couple of Questions
This is very good news but I have some questions:
- How are the XDA servers bearing up under the weight of all these members? Getting error 502-bad gateway is a routine occurrence when I log on at night in Europe (daytime in the US) and find all our American cousins logged on, hogging our servers. How dare they (lol)
- Given that this site is probably singularly responsible for a whole load of people sticking with the HTC brand, has anyone from XDA actually approached HTC for financial support and/or technical collaboration? We seem to be solving all their problems for them and keeping them in business without so much as a Corporate thank you in sight
- Moderation, with this number of members, must be an absolute nightmare. How does one nominate oneself to carry on this good work (hint hint)?

1 & 2: the 502 errors are software errors, the only system level workaround is to build an entire resilient failover system, and this will be more that just new hardware .
We (well the admins) are still working on the software issues that are causing the problems.
As for moderators, we are 60 strong, but not all active at once, some of the others have real lives to live.

Dave,
Thanks for the answers to my questions.
As for moderators leading real lives, are you telling me XDA is not the REAL world? I feel like Truman off the Truman Show. Has it all been an illusion, a figment of someone else's turgid imagination (gets his coat)?
WB
Wow!!
Yes we are huge!
I think the real interesting number is the active users one as the 2 mill sure includes a lot of one time only enter members, spammers, etc.
Very funny Mike (ROFL).
WB
Somehow we need to get a "number of images posted by Mike" count. It must be near the 10,000 mark by now!
3 members moderating 2,206 users??? wow!
first time ive been on a site thats even gone pass 100k
good job
that IS huge.

Seriously thinking of giving the phone back

As I'm within the 28 days to exchange.....I've kind of had it with fancy phones and might go for a cheapy and get most of the money back, they wont like it but hey ho
Cool story bro
EDIT: But seriously, WHY do you hate the phone? I have a One X, I hate the way its designed and the battery life. I don't like the phone but atleast I know WHY I don't like the phone.
Maybe the reasons you don't like it can be fixed with a better ROM or something?

I would - I moved mine on to my wife who isn't fussed about custom/boot images/s-off/super-cid/flashing radios etc
I'm back using my Sensation and that's fancy enough for me for now. For me its better to have my modding freedom back.
And yeah - there is something to be said for saving thr £500 a high end phone costs. The functionality of a Desire C say is really the same at a lot less.
Agree wish I still had my Desire instead of all the risky business that is installing roms.

By saying "I wonder how many other "useful" (ONE L!) posts there are"
This is just going to make people not want to help you. Considering XDA is one of the most useful, if not THE most useful forum for not only Android but devices such as the Raspberry Pi.
If you don't find this forum useful, why come here and tell all us useless users that you "Thinking of giving it back". Why do we need to know that?
