i didnt c this problem when the device had wm5.

Can you explain what you mean by it shuts down?
What behaviour does it show.
What happens when you turn it on?
Does it still recieve calls?
like you take the batterie out.
i mean when i press on the power botton the phone start like its soft reseted.
crazy wm6
I have a similar problem (still on WM5.0) of the Orbit turning itself off completely. Last night I discovered this happens if I put pressure on the rear battery cover. Going to return it to O2 as faulty but this may be the same issue you have?
Got the same Problem today and some days before...
I will have an eye on this

Two days later - same problem...
One more and i have to return the device...
I have exactly the same problem here with my P3300 and wm5 installed. By pressing the battery cover the device turns off.
Did you solve the problem? Did the customer support replace your phone?
I discovered that the problem is due to the battery which slightly moves by pressing on the cover and the phone turns off.
I was able to solve the problem by inserting a small piece of paper between the battery and the case. Now the battery does not move anymore and the phone does not turns off by pressing on the cover.
Two days later - again at middday
...the device turns off on its own.
I inserted a piece of paper- let´s wait and see.
Strange - it allways turns off at midday - every 2nd day.
I can´t reproduce the error by pressing on the cover...
Next time this happens, I will return it to O2.

I too have been having this problem.
I can mess with battery cover and battery without turning off, but even leaving it on side still powers off completeley evety now and then and sometimes I have to remove the battery and replace a couple of times before it turns back on.
Finding it impossible to recreate the problem.
I have sent it back to T-mobile once but they returned it saying they cant find the fault. I Ended up ringing the service team and they agreed that it seemed like an intermittant hardware fault.
Thing is now I am thinking of sending it back again but I get the feeling it will come back to me again.
PLEASE if any one has found a solution to this please post.
I will try to secure battery better and see if it makes a difference - will report back.
Hi. Have a look at Notification Queue, maybe there is a shutdown device procedue. You can use Pocket Mechanic Professional (www.wizcode.com/products/view/pocket_mechanic_professional) to do that. Hope it helps.

Hi!
Since the upgrade to WM6, I have the same problem, about twice a week I pull my Orbit out of the pocket and it is off. I can turn it on and it boots like after a soft reset.
It happened just minutes ago, there was no pressure on the battery cover. I was listening to music, and it just stopped.
I tried pushing and shaking it, but I could not provoke the poweroff this way.
I also tried Pocket Mechanic to look at the notification queue, apart from two Reminders in the Year 4501 I could not find any obvious entries.
Any Ideas?
Ciao
Martin
Any news on this? I might have the same problem.
Thank you.

I'm having the same problems :| i had them with WM 5,after upgrade it to WM6 from a O2 original rom still failing, even with the Artemis Touch...and never fell the floor :S
I had this same problem. I tried paper under the battery cover, but that made no difference. I then folded a couple of thin strips of paper in half three times (to make it 8 layers thick), and pushed these down the edge of the battery opposite the contacts (one at each end of the edge to keep it straight). This pushed the battery far enough that I could no longer see the contacts, and seems to have fixed the problem! At least, fixed the problem I could reproduce by pushing the battery cover - going to see if it turns off at all in my pocket now.

Hi Guys,
Whenever I remove the battery from my XDA 2S I lose everything and have to set up the OS from scratch.
I have spoken to O2 and they have told me this is normal? But how can this be? It is the most stupid thing I have ever heard.
Please if someone could just tell me if their XDA 2S does this I would be more than grateful!
Thanks in advance.

Go to settings/ Power icon and check the status of both the Main Battery and the backup Battery, the first could be at any charge % the backup Battery should be at 100%, this is used to hold the data on the phone for a short duration, sim card swap or battery swap with the machine selected OFF first. If its loosing data then there is something wrong with it, I can remove the Battery on my IIs for 10 mins if need be without a problem - Mike
Yes the Backup Battery is at 100%
It loses everything as soon as I take the battery out, I can put the battery straight back on, start the phone and OS setup begins.
When you say selected "off". Do you mean quickly pushing the power button once.
I have done this and still it loses everything.
Looking forward to your response.
Jonnycash!
All I can sugest are two options
1, Return the phone as it is clearly faulty, demand O2 repair the unit or try for an Exec as a replacement as re-compense, you might get this easily as they are no longer offering the IIs.
2, install something like Sprite back-up and configure the back-up to re-install everthing hardly ideal, and this is not what I would do.
Mike
Yes, I have just got it back from being "repaired". they said that they replaced the circuit board but it still does it.
I will send it back as suggested and try get a new one.
Thanks
Jonnycash
After taking out the battery, try not to push the tab(the one you pull back and the battery pops up) that holds the battery back into place until you re-insert the battery.

Sounds like a duff backup battery to me ( see pic), changing the mainboard would seem a sledgehammer to crack a nut. I have had this with blueangels after re-assembly, even with the backupstatus at 100%. I leave on a cradle charging overnight then do a hard reset - seems to work for me.
Richard
i have that problem as well before. but maybe this will help you a bit.
because i always do it removing the battery when changing my sim card. how i wish they would put the sim card away from the battery. ( calling the attention of the engineers for future references).
i started on the permanent save check mostly on contacts and appointments (I needed them all the time) (start>settings>system>permanent save). then i usually turn on the flight mode then turn off the pda from the power button.
thats the time i take the battery off and either to swap the sim card of the battery. then it automatically go to soft reset when the battery is back you will notice that after the automatic soft reset, there will be a small window showing appointments and contacts restoring.
i hope this will help.
I've had this, once. I've heard that this is a bug of that little black thingey that holds the battery, because it supposed to switch between backup battery and normal battery. Too bad sometimes it does not do this at all...
finally this happened to me to today. I by mistake took the battery out and when I put it there again, it hard resetted itself. Many of my notes were stored in main memory, which I had taken from my teacher just 30 mins ago

It happened to me again few days ago, under 2003SE (I had to downgrade for something). One thing i love in WM5 that I don't have to worry about this.
It has happened to me many times as well as I am always changing batteries. As somone mentioned above it seems to be a bug with the battery holder (the little black tab you clisk to hold the battery in.) I just keep my contacts backed up each time I add a new one. as for the applications they can usually waite till I restore them.

Eeerrrr. how about ' replace the battery' - they are standard cells...

Mabey its not clear what seems to be happening here
When you drop the unit and /or when you open the little black clip that holds the battery in place. Somtimes the phone looses all stored information and goes to hard reset. There seems to be 2 bugs in action here.
1) The batterys seem to get into a strange state where they dont work properly. (I have found that putting the battery into the rear slot of the charger reconditions it to fix this problem.)
2) Some units seem to have a bug with the battery latch when you open the latch accidently or somtimes even just when changing the battery intentionaly it seems not to switch to back up battery corectly. My theory is that there is a dead zone in the latch that does not make the correct transfer if it isn't fully engaged in either direction. It is a really poorly devised way to handle battery changes but hey its too late for them to redesign it. I can not say how many ppl have this issue or if it is everyone or just some people but I do know this is the case on mines and many of the forums I've read.
Solutions:
1) Back up your unit whenever you add data to it. you can just do a contact list back up which only takes 1 min for me and my sx66 has over 2k contacts. Do full back up once a week that should cover your apps and data.
2) Keep your battery reconditioned at least once a week use the rear charging slot for the battery. If you only have one battery this is not an option so I suggeest if you are going to keep your sx66 for any length of time buy a spare battery.
3) Recently I have begun using a small peice of duck tape to secure my battery latch. It is a pain in the rear but I have droped my unit once in this configuration and the battery and latch stayed in place.
Additionaly:
To make restores easier you can include some of your favorite applications in your ext roms. Just snoop around in the forums and you will see directions for manipulating ext rom.
Also look into changing the directorys where you store information. IE your mem card and the onboard storage directory seem to never get nuked unless it is done by the user.
Anything short of the above listed or replacing the hardware is not viable, because these are HARDWARE bugs. Version 5 avoids this issue because it does not hard reset your data like all previous versions of ppc. However the hard ware issue is still there it just doesnt effect you. But if you upgrade your rom be carefull because you are trading the bugs you know for the ones you don't know...lol
thanks for advice ........
dont worry richard am shifting to o2 exec

I do not know if somebody faced this problems before or not:
1- The soft-keys, dial key, call drop key, and the scrolling keys; are always while pressing them for long time does not response until turning off the screen by pressing the power button then turning on again to keep working for awhile then same thing happen again.
2- The screen is sometimes fade to be completely white & brightness more, and everything hidden until turning off the screen by pressing the power button then turning on it again
If anybody knows how to fix this matter please provide me with the solution.
Thanks for all concerned
I had the same exact problem... I fixed it by getting a warranty exchange from AT&T!
I have the same problem! Unfortunately my phone is not covered by warranty. I think it's a hardware issue because I changed a number of ROMs and the problem persisted. I don't know what to do, it's driving me nuts!
Help anybody???
Good news!
Ok, as far as the key problem goes, using the PDF file about HTC TyTN where you can see how EXACTLY to disassemble and assemble the TyTN I took the courage to open up my TyTN and pull up the motherboard and clean everything up and close it tightly back. However I did not completely disassembled it as the manual shows because I did not want to remove any stuff that's glued like the rubber parts and the metal tape that holds the keyboard connector. So basically, I did not reach the part where the soft keys are, but somehow miraculously my keys are working nice again! I guess the problem was just loose connections and probably it was loosing contact somewhere because keys worked sometimes and then suddenly stopped.
Anyways, it's been 2 days now and the keys work perfectly and my TyTN is not so loose like it's going to fall apart as it was before!
P.S.
I haven't noticed the white screen problem also but it's been only 2 days and it wasn't happening so often before anyways.
This issue is known -there are threads in hermes section, search for white screen..
Its a harware issue with XILINX coolrunner(if I remember it right) on the front keypad below screen.. It propably has some bad solders under it -mine went so bad that it showed only white screen until I disassemled the unit and pressed directly the chip with my fingers
Then I bought a new circuit from cnn -at the moment it had those boards for sale, not anymore. That fixed my problem.
Among the threads someone got his/her phone to operate again by putting something between the cover and the chip..
I had the problem on my handset and managed to fix it by cutting up a piece of card..be it and old credit card or whatever to the size of the recess that the chip fits in...this pushes against it nicely and since then only had the problem reoccur once...then it was cured by just putting the handset into standby mode and back to normal again
Everyone has experienced some problems with their phone, whether its white screen/d-pad syndrome or some other fault.
Today my phone has decided not to turn on. It was working perfectly then all of a sudden screen went blank.
I have tried taking battery and sim card etc out and putting it back in. Phone won't even pick up charger.
I have had white screen of death before and dismantled my phone following alkizmo directions. This fixed my phone for a number of weeks, though problem started to re-appear.
Could this be whats caused my phone to switch off.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to get my phone to turn on again.
Warranty is well gone!!!
Seeing as there doesn't appear to be any ideas, I may go hunting for a new phone, though I'll probably take my hermes apart first!!

Yeaaaaa, kill the bast...rd and go for Diamond
My hermes just started showing the same symptoms. None of the front buttons work, not even the leds... I took the phone apart i did the foam trick but it didn't work. However, it could be because the mail button is faulty (it doesn't click when pressed) so I've ordered a flex cable which includes that button. Its a good thing I've already pre-ordered the touch pro, so its not too much longer with my faulty hermes..
Hi,
I do not know if someone has posted or commented on this before. I bought my TP2 back in november and since then I have noticed that it would power off every now and then. Closing the keyboard would very often power it off, or slightly banging it. A friend of mine bought the phone the same day and had the same issue. I have been reading forums and people recommended changing the mother board, or re-flashing... but in my case it would still power off.
Yesterday I was enlightened. I saw the battery has a little movement in its enclosure. I inserted a piece of plastic on the upper left corner... now the phone will not power off unless I want it to. I have noticed the battery is even working better. It seems it is les than 1mm smaller than it should be or something.
Seems incredible, but this really solved me and my friends problem... hope it works for other people too.
P.S. I know my phone is dirty
waw
i came searching for that problem, my tp2 turn off some times when i slid the keyboard open !!!
i didnt have this problem before, but few weeks ago i updated my ROM at the HTC care office , so i suspect the ROM but let me try ur way .. may be some how the battery space becam 1mm larger
What version of Touch Pro 2 is that?
My battery is nice and snug on my tilt2 (RHOD300)
@ samarrai:
Please do try it and let us know how it worked. I have seen this problem occur and be solved this way on 3 rhodiumms already.
@ fone_fanatic:
Good one. This is RHOD210, I will try and find out what version the others with this problem are and post it here.
Thanks for your posts!
How odd this post shows up today. I have had my Tilt 2 for about 3 months and yesterday I pulled it out of its case to check the time and I could not turn the phone on. Had to remove and replace the battery to get the phone to come back on. Wonder if this is the same as above.
This post is actually really odd, cause the exact same thing happened to me yesterday, took phone out to check time and it was off. I just dismissed it thinking I prob turned it off while it was in the case. but didn't occur to me at the time that i had to use the reset button to turn it back on rater than just the standard power button. leads me to believe more than just a battery not fitting issue.
It might seem odd... dont know what so say except my phone used to shut down every day more than 10 times... my friends phone used to shut down really often as well. We both bought it from the same guy the same day, and both are RHOD210 from at&t.
Now that we put the little plastic thingy, they just will not power off unless we tell them to. I just thought I'd share the info in case someone else is having this issue. I know I read a lot about it while googling, and no one commented on this.
In the last couple of days I've noticed that when I slide out my keyboard to do some typing (mainly noticed in emailing), my phone just goes dead and I have to restart it. Anyone had this issue or know how to resolve it other than sending the phone in? Thanks in advance!
I have the same problem, usually when opening up the keyboard to send a SMS.
Try to make a backup and HARD reset phone. See what's in result.
After negative result u can try to flash another firmware OR disassemble touch pro 2 and clean parts. But do it on your own risk
I had this issue when I updated to the higher output battery. It appears that when opening the keyboard the movement can occasionally jar the battery in the compartment(at least it did on my tp2) which then disconnect the battery contacts and the phone shuts off. It was even more apparent when I went the the 3500mah battery from HTC and the new cover. I resolved it by placing velcro on the inside of the cover which effectively pressed against the cover and battery itself to hold it from moving. So far it has worked very well and its been a year.
I have that problem because the power button is in the worst location ever

No, it was powering off completely. Seems like in the past couple of days things have been okay, maybe it's an issue with the battery like others have had and I need to wedge something between the battery and the outer cover.
I had same problem with my wife's TP2. Problem occured after removing SIMLOCK (French Orange). Flashing fresh ROM helped in my case, If you don't want to flash new ROM try HardReset
