Hi All.
Being a complete Noob with PDA's and stuff, I have carried out several searches trying to find the answers to a basic question, and wondering if anyone can advise (In Laymans Terms) on the following.
I am a brit living in Holland, and am the recent, very proud, owner of an Orange M650 - Artemis, however back to the beginning of the sentence, I am a brit and have little to no comprehension of Dutch.
Can I install/upgrade/fiddle with the phone to make all the screens into english?
Am I able to install WM6 (Dutch or English)?
The device is as it came out of the box, so pressume that it is operator locked and/or locked in some other way.
All help greatfully received (Sorry for the lame questions but a Noob is what I am)
Sorry all, just read the sticky about Upgrading and something about a CID lock.
I will stick with what I have unless someone really has time to walk (I mean crawl) through it.
go get your phone cid unlocked for £20 and then you can install any rom you want!
you'll also see a thread in this forum about upgrading roms on a cid locked (ie your) device... do this at your own risk though!...
Thanks for that, I will take the easy option and get it CID unlocked.
Will i also need to get it Sim unlocked?
How do I know if my device is CID locked or not ?
I know it's not SIM locked.
I have HTC 3300, english version.

Upgrading ROM's is super easy once you get the CID lock. Read through the posts and you will see tons of options for changing. I have been doing this for about 3 weeks now, I am not an expert but I have successfully changed my ROM on my cid unlocked o2 Orbit 5 or 6 times trying different things out. If you need someone to walk you though it, I am sure there are more qualified people, but I would offer my service. I wished to god someone would have offered this to me when I first started figuring this stuff out....

Anyone know of a way to debrand the Tmobile Dash to get all of thier splash screens off of it?
Flash with the ROM posted in this thread. There are pluses and minuses to both. I like the S620 ROM myself. The only thing I miss is the ability to hold a key down to get the corosponding symbol. I don't miss the T-mobile garbage
how well does the rom work. is that the only issue is that you cant hold the keys down to get the other characters??
As long as you are WM literate enough to change the mms/gprs settings to work with your provider. Everything works great
are you refering to the post with this rom?
RUU_Excalibur_HTC_WWE_1.11.405.4_4.1.13.28_02.63.9 0_Test.exe
making sure I am on the right track.
i would like to know how to do this also without turning my unlocked cingular dash into a brick.

Just follow the direction to the tea. Other than that there are never any promises. But more people successfully flash their ROM then don't

before i get started, what do i need to change speficially to work it with cingular?
is there a way to revert back if it doesnt go well?
I've done this myself with my Dash as I have changed from T-mobile to Cingular.
Make sure that you are CID unlocked. Do not confuse SIM unlocking with CID unlocking. If you need help determining if you are CID unlocked I've got one question, did you pay to get CID unlocked? If yes then you know what you are doing but if no then you are not CID unlocked and it will not flash. Getting a SIM unlock code from T-mobile allows you to use other carriers but you still cannot flash the phone with just a SIM unlock.
Flashing the phone is simple, plug it in, let active sync run and then double click the Rom file you've downloaded and follow the instructions. In a few minutes your phone will restart and all of the T-mobile stuff is gone and you are off to a fresh start.
As for settings, you will need to change GPRS and MMS settings like others said. The info you need can be obtained from hofo or cingular's website, it's pretty straight forward.

how do i go about CID Unlocking it?
I have an o2 cosmo in german. I know it is unlocked because I can use my cingular sim card. If I try to flash a new ROM without knowing if it is CID unlocked, would it brick my phone? or would it just not let me do it?. I have changed ROM's before on different HTC's phones but it seems like there is not a lot of reseach on the excalibur.
So, I'm getting my first WinMo phone this week, an X02HT--presumably still locked to Softbank. My understanding is that I'll need to SIM-unlock it, and there is also some further software unlocking necessary?
Ideally, I'd love to keep the stock firmware on it, since it's bilingual already...I don't care about no MMS (the only limitation I've been able to find). For what it's worth, I'll be putting my ATT 3G sim in it.
So, just to clarify--I need to SIM-unlock it, and nothing else is necessary? Any recommendations on where to get the SIM unlock code?
Also, I read that people had to put new software on in order for the unlock code to be accepted?!
Forgive the confused newbie...I'm coming from the simple world of an unlocked Symbian phone
Edit: Fantastic, I forgot to fix the title before posting...good show.
So, I think I've answered my own first question in that I'll need to install the Japanese-only test-ROM in order to input the SIM-unlock. After doing so, how do I roll back to the original ROM, so that I may use the English-language functionality?
Hi every one, my phone model is HTC Hermes 8525 locked to Att. Now it is in original box with Windows Mobile 5. I want to unlock it first. I have read articles on this BBS and aware that if I want to do future Rom flashing things I might need both SIM and CID unlocked. At same time I found several unlock code provider on Ebay.com. Now the questions come up.
1) Is Unlock code got via Ebay only for SIM unlock, or it is for both?
2) Is there any risk for such kind of unlock code for my phone? What's the worst outcome for using unlocker software downloaded here?
3) If I don't unlock my CID, can I still upgrade my phone with WM6? What specific ROM of WM6 shall I use?
4) Any other suggestion is welcomed, Ad's also.
Thanks a head

Hi and welcome to xda-developers forum!
1) I think this "unlock code" will provide you an ability to disable/re-enable SIM Lock/Operator Lock, not CID Lock (as it's platform specific and required to flash unofficial ROMs)
2) The worst is device will become brick. But it could occur only if you download and flash wrong ROM.
3) No, if it's unofficial. If HTC provided a WM6 update to Hermes (I don't remember), it could be flashed.
Good luck

What phone do you have?
Hi I would like to get a little help to unlock my
phone.
I tried to get an unlock code but it did not work.
I have now a custom rom and my phone is rooted.
I read that for UK people the rom change helped to
get the code accepted.
Should I try more roms or radio update?
Should I put somehow an unbranded ROM?
I think trying to buy more codes are useless
but maybe some compony has the right one...
My IMEI starts with 3578410
I sow on some unlock pages that for these
phone I have to pay more due to being in the newest database.
(htcgate)
I got from htccode the info that in this kind
of situations the provider lock back the phone.
They promise a cable solution from december...
I guess they can do it because there is something
in their rom, that's why I wanted to replace it...
I had no succes so far.
Thanks

Hello,
I bought a second hand HOX last week. It was sold to me as unlocked from operator SFR (Vodaphone France, or CID VODAP203).
I bought an unlocking code from an internet shop, tried it, didn't work... I went into a shop specialized in unlocking phones they could not make it provider free...
So I went on to this forum. Plenty of nice things, and as I already rooted an Android tablet from TOSHIBA (FOLIO100), I tried a few things.
It appears that my phone is rooted. When I boot in bootloader it says "UNLOCKED", and it is also S-OFF!!! I am able to change the CID as much as I want, and I have set it to "11111111". As such I was told on a french forum that any SIM Card from any provider should work, but it doesn't...
I have been able to install Jelly Bean from one of the ROM developpers, thinking (and this is where I am a noob) that I will clear the part of the system that tells it is locked to one provider... Of course it didn't do anything more, or different than telling me it doesn't work on any provider.
I went back to stock from Vodaphone France, and came to you in order to get some instructions or link to have on working on another network than the vodaphone one...
Thanks in advance for your help,
Alain
First off, it's great you have an S-OFF handset. You are lucky about that.:good:
On the other hand, unlocking bootloader doesn't have anything to do with SIM locks. So, whatever you did (as you experienced it yourself) doesn't work.
I suggest you search over here, because I know for sure there is a way to unlock SIM lock on HOX. I didn't have to do it, as mine was already unlocked (or SIM free, I can't tell now).
Don't worry, you'll find the way, just be patient.
A bientot!
Yeah everyone told me it was great to have it S-OFF, although I don't know what it can do for me... I guess this would be great for developpers ?
I hope I won't have to go through several unlock code providers...
S-OFF is giving you advantage in being able to flash any ROM, any RUU, any HBOOT, any radio... Good not only for developers.
Back to topic - I suggest you visit some mobile phone service, and pay ONLY after they finish the work. I guess there are whole lot of frauds online,, that would take you money for the "unlock code", and not care if it doesn't work.
I repeat, be patient, and keep searching. Here's what I found (you can do the same search yourself):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1654075
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=25341694&postcount=71
it cost me a whole £2.79 to get mine unlocked.
I bought the code from ebay inserted an un supported sim and entered the code when asked. That's the main reason actually why I've stuck with HTC they are so easy to un lock

Mate, nowadays most phones are unlocked through pw.... code. Usually, you get it for specific handset (IMEI and operator), and just type it in as you did.
BTW, Samsung Galaxy SIII is even easier to unlock - by an apk from Google Play Store.
Hello,
I went through one of Unlock Code providers that [email protected]|-|oR provided me through his links...
I had the exact same unlock code as the one I got in France... that doesn't work. But the guys were really professional, in reimbursing my money as they could not unlock my phone.
The strangest thing is that they asked me if the phone is rooted, and said that this is why I cannot SIM Unlock, because it is rooted... I reverted by to stock, and re-locked the phone but the result is still the same, it stays stuck to SFR...
I hope a solution will come out in the form of an application such as the one for Galaxy III, it looks so easy to do.
Have a good evening,
Alain
Hi my phone was branded by orange and obviously had a simlock what did with my hox and many others before is:root the phone ,get recovery, then flash custom rom and all that branded garbage with simlock is gone.I've done it before with galaxy S,S2,now with my hox. Don't never ever buy any codes online.

Hello,
I already did that, (root, flash customer ROM), but simlock is still here... only thing I didn't change is recovery, but it is 5.8.xxx (aka I think it is the latest).
Can you guide me rapidly in return ?
Al1
SIM unlock is totally separate from rooting.
