iPhone for PPC - Which is the best one? - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam ROM Development

I have been using Slide2Unlock on my WM6 Hermes now for a while and have really gotten to like it, so much that I want the iPhone look and feel on my PPC.
I have seen a few around but then seem parts of the full package. Is there one particular one that seems the best all rounder?
I came across this one but haven't tried it yet:-
http://www.ozankilic.com/?p=31
I would like a version that has the iPhone dialler but needs to have the smart dialler functionality so that names come up when I type numbers etc..
I would also like to continue to use Slide2Unlock
Also, I would like the icons on the today screen etc...
Can you please point me in the direction of a good version.
Many Thanks
Mark

Anyone moved from XDA mini s? Hows the lack of keyboard?

Hi Everyone,
I'm using the xda mini s at the moment and love it. Would obviously really like to add integrated GPS though.
3G is of little interest to me, so the Orbit looks perfect.
Only problem...no keyboard. How have you guys got round that? I simply cannot be bothered to always use the stylus.....will it be pointless for me then? Or have they managed to create a good alternative.
Would appreciate anyones views and experiences.
Thanks
HPJ
well i dont have orbit however played with it for a while when my friend got one.
What can i say. Trackball and wheel solution are good, imo much better to navigate phone then normal joypad.
However. It doesnt have a keyboard
So already having external Bluetooth gps i see no reason why i would buy orbit instead of hunting for htc herald which is the same factor but with keyboard...
And that would be ( and in fact will be ) my choice. Of course question now where to get herald from as it retails for £300+... i would just wait until my upgrade time comes and buy something else and sell it in order to finance new herald.
I had a wizard before the Orbit. Have to admit that I do miss the "real" keyboard and havent really found an on screen keyboard that makes entering text as easy. I did only use it occasionally though and love the size and look of the Orbit so it seems to more than make up for it in my opinion.
Hi, I've recently upgraded from a Mini S to the Orbit.
I've not really missed the keyboard, but I guess it depends on how you use the device. I've installed the T9 phonepad .cab file that's available on here & I use that for sending text messages. Why the hell it wasn't included as standard I have no idea - seems daft cos if i remember correctly, it is included on the Mini S :s
If you use your device to enter a lot of text though, e.g. sending emails or using it to edit word documents, then you might find the on-screen keyboard very fiddly to use.
I manage to successfully type on the software keyboard with my two thumbs using the Xda Orbit in landscape mode, I make a few errors but I'm used to making and correcting those on a PC keyboard anyway so I get by. Something the same size of the Orbit with a slide out keyboard would be awesome but at the moment I can't see how it would be realistic.
The Orbit is SOOO much better. It's much slimmer so doesn't feel like such a brick (imagine the mini s minus the whole top screen section (the silver bit)
I also installed phonepad and it works well. Built in gps and slimmer phone are the key factors for me
It also has start menu and ok keys on the front, so 1 handed operation is good
If the keyboard was a real issue, I would use SPB full keyboard - check that out if you have concerns
Excellent feedback, thanks everyone.
Think it sounds worth it...think I'll make the move.
Also checked out that SPB keyboard. Looks great.
Will let you know how I get on (in case anyone else is in the same position)
Cheers

I too am making the move from my mini s... gald to be leaving th bulk behind.

SD card problem is affecting all the devices You may check the forums.
I have just contacted O2 to send back my mini s (wizard) and
I am getting an orbit instead. My old phone is a magician, and when I got the mini s, I was really disappointed!
Obviously it has features such as wifi etc that my magician didn't have, but it was a big clunky plasticy slow monstrosity.
I realised that I actually preferred my magician, so I got straight on the phone to O2.
Ok, rant over. The point of this is that I didn't appreciate the keyboard on the mini S at all. I have spb fullscreen keyboard and spb pocketplus on my magician, and I never ever have to use the stylus. I set the icons on the pocketplus today screen to large, and use the soft keyboard for texting etc.
The keyboard for me makes the device practical, I don't think I'd still have a pda phone if I hadn't discovered it.
I actually dropped my stylus at my friend's house and wasn't aware that it was missing until she returned it to me nearly three weeks later...
By the way, I don't work for spb or anything lol!
If you read about the apple iphone, you'll see that they have done away with the stylus by using a similar interface.
Obviously the way to go!
I've always used the letter recogniser on XDA's find the on screen keyboards clumbersome.
My other half hates the bulk of the keyboard on her Mini.
I've moved from the Mini-S to XDA orbit. Full screen keyboard is ok, but I find it a little cumbersome.
I've just discovered the International T9 Phonepad from this very forum, and it works a treat, well, once I discovered "Tab" was "space" anyway!! Great for notes and calendar entries, and makes one-handed text entry a real possibility. Definately worth a try!

About TouchFLO in Universal.

Hello.
Is there any way to obtain the TouchFLO usability from the new HTC Touch, into Universal? I don't think there are any hardware changes as to how the screen handles finger moves and clicks.
Maybe any plans on a new WM6 Rom for Universal that might support it?
If yes, would it be the whole Touch interface, including dark gray apearance, etc?
Thanks people.
EDIT: Just read about the first TouchFlo Rom (Ivan i Think), but there is lack of feedback as for the usability of the Touch feature, or the dark grey today theme/caller apearance... Any help?
there are hardware changes
Yep, the hardware of HTC touch is different which enables it to do some 'gestures' on the screen. So, all we can 'taste' is the today plugin which it uses
Thank you both for your responses. Midlet, I have user your ROMs before.
However, I don't understand what the changed might be, since "drag n' drop" finger actions are possible in Universal or any other PPC (for example, using the finger to move an icon in some other place, on "Spb Pocket Plus Today Plugin"...
Any specific info on Why "HTC Touch" is different (apart from the LCD protective material which -just a guess- may be a little more matte, in order for the finger to easily move on it) on this device?
Still, I can't figure out why a finger gesture needs extra/changed hardware. I would understand it if it accepted more than one touches at the same time, but this?...
Thanks...
hi were can i download the cab file for the today pluggin screen like from touch?
you might try this http://www.mobiletopsoft.com/board/2...pocket-pc.html but you need to have WM6 installed. You are not alone others want this interface as well. I have the same question in the Universa general forum
when i click the link it wont forward me. wats the search name of the pluggin? thanks
I think you can get an answer here:

Simliest Diary

Hi PPC mages, I've got a small problem. I've tried to search a very easy program which resembles the classic paper diary.
Idea of this soft.. Screen which has seven parts (basically days). Every Day should have a date and maybe names (because of name days). Into these "tabs" I need only to write. Not ringing, no pop-ups, no vibrations, nothing, just type on keyboard. Don't know if I'm able to write about my idea in english so imagine one list of the simplest diary and you'll got sense of my idea.
My question is simple.. Does this soft (or very similar) exist? Or can it be programmed by any good man/woman? I think it would't be so hard and I will be very grateful for that.
Remember I don't want any calendar - am owner of Calendar touch and it isn't the way of annotation I want.
Thanks for reading and especially for answers!
Hmm... Excel?
Great idea but not as elegant as simple software..
I'm not sure exactly what you want, but have a look at Phatnotes:
http://www.phatware.com/index.php?q=product/details/phatnotes/screenshots
This is very customizable and will let you have a blank page per day with buttons for seven days and weeks.
Perhaps this works for you ?
If you were Japanase I would strongly recommand this one : http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?p=41640
Reading the translated doc, I could configure it easily, and even if there are some display bugs due to japanase font replaced by squares, the result is quite usable and simple.
I dream that someone makes the same in english, french.
Thanks for tips, now I'm going to try the first one (hope it wouldnt be hard to cutomize it). The second one doesn't seem to be just diary, it is very similar to normal calendar. I'm surprised that the sipliest normal diary doesn't exist, but maybe someone will find anything.
Thans again!
Unluckily it wasn't what I need, but thanks..
I've made a very simple picture to explain my idea when my english isn't so good .
http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e249/Sean880/Diary.jpg
This is a basic idea of appearance. And functions?
1) Slide to right/left - go to next/previous week (princip of book)
2) Type into the lines (maybe with possibility to set up the font - color?/bold/italic)
3) Possibility to change names in any system file (depend on country) - it makes easy future translations
4) Next features - changing colors based on days etc.
I'm completely amateur so I don't know anything about software making but I still think this software wouldn't be so hard to develop, am I right?
Thanks for reflections!
Hmm it seems that similar program doesn't exist but would it be really hard to develop it?

Tasks on lock screen app

I was looking for some sort of a solution of this with no luck, any tips welcome.
Basically what I was looking for was an app or a tweak which would show TASKS on the lock screen (the screen when phone is locked and you have to use for example a slider (Miri rom) to open it) since there is so much empty space and there is no reasonable way to put the tasks on Today screen.
Any ideas and tips very much appreciated.
hmm, i think S2U2 is capable of doing this. it is a free screen locking application.
according to the changelog here:
http://htcwinmobile.blogspot.com/2009/06/acs-s2u2-v201.html
it is capable of doing it, but i've just had a quick look in the applications settings (i have it installed) and can't seem to find the option, but it would be worth a try
S2U2 does show tasks icon the lock screen but it is only a figure(how many tasks are scheduled). If you use the appointments these will show as full descriptions, until completed, and you can have up to 7 appointments over a number of weeks (I think its about 4 weeks).Really good and I have no problems on Duttys Rom 6.5 R11
thanks for the handy pointers, will give it a try.
hmm, so I've tried that and I'm not very impressed. I'm not particularly keen on the whole S2U2, seems a bit cumbersome and overall like an "i" wannabe... there is somewhat the option of displaying the tasks on the lockscreen but as far as I'm concerned there is no way of removing the whole S2U2 interface and keeping just the tasks..which is, ultimately, what I'd want.
Thanks for the tip anyway but don't think this is gonna work.
Can't believe I'm the only one trying to get this sorted(!), it is such a fundamental thing to see tasks frequently without having to access something..even my old N95 did that right.
Anyway, if anyone knew about something, give us a shout.
Cheers
Z.
For years (!) I wanted to have my tasks on todayscreen (and/or on lock screen). I never understood why this was possible only on oldschool-WinMobile-todayscreen WITH special programs (SPB Diary). I believe it's a BASIC feature - and like you I asked myself if really noone needs this?
After getting my new Touch HD I love to have a stylish todayscreen - but I hate not to see appointments/tasks (neither with manila nor winmobile 6.5-today).
So if there is ANY solution: YES I want it too!
I could have probably lived with S2U2 as long as the tasks would be at least showing by themselves rather than you having to press & hold on the icon
...that's like as close it gets to the desired result...future s2u2 update might fix that but again, you have to get the whole app (for locking) to get this small, though very important feature... kinda disappointing...
I`d also like having task on today or lock screen as old non colour Windows CE devices did. Why had disappeared? I don´t know and I can´t understand. I hope somebody can help us.
I want it too please. I would like something like Lockinfo for the iphone.

New Else

Just saw this and fell in love.
They say it's to rid the world of the concept of a main menu, but in my opinion it is a main menu. and one of the sexiest one's at that.
It's single colour gradients and flow is everything i like in an interface, while others put more colours and ever more elaborate icons in gridformations, this one is so much more beautyfull for it's simplicity.
http://www.engadget.com/2009/11/24/emblazes-first-else-unveiled-in-london-promises-to-be-a-game-c/
http://www.firstelse.com/
Now my question is:
Is there any posible way to simulate this menu on WM? i'm using pointui on both my Omnia and X1 and it is for me the best ui.
But i've also tried the demo of Silvermoon, and my phone definately has the potential for graphics like "Else".
Or am i too late with this post already?
Is there already something lige this for WM phones?
It probably can be re-created in flash, but I wouldnt use it myself... no icons, not easy to understand, you'd have to be able to read letters rotated in different agles...
Dont get me wrong, its fresh and has some eye-candy but on the long run I dont see the potencial in it.
:/
I really like the whole UI - not just the fan menu.
Also I like that 'caller will be asked to press * if urgent or # to hang up'.
Looks like some really good features. Doubt we will get anything that looks that good throughout on WM though
