Looks like wm2005 still not very stable, a lot of programs still not working.
For example, Xbackup, set as ringtone or Monster Chinese, etc.
well alot of programs required new versions when 2003SE came out as well

Using it on my Imate for a month or more and no problem so far and no lock-ups like there were on WM2003SE
I think the title of this thread is misleading... :?
The fact that it does not run several applications or crashes is because:
1.- This version is not final
2.- It's not compatible because of it's very nature, IT'S A NEW OS!!!
The same happened when we upgraded our PCs to Windows XP don't you remember?
New versions will start to come up eventually, and even if you don't see any advances "right-out-of-the-box" it's because the main improvements on this OS reside behind the scenes, so Programmers will start to develop new and exciting apps that take advantage of the new features and APIs.
For me Windows Mobile 5.0 has been very stable even with the very first version that Buzz, Toe and the gang which had very limited memory resources I had no stability problems whatsoever.
There are limitations of course, (like no MMS, mediocre video camera, sms problems, etc) but eventually Microsoft OR our very own developers will take care of that!
So, BE PATIENT!!!!!
Hi,
Using it for 3 days in my Qtek 2020 and no problem at all.
Even Jabra250 works fine, when in 2003SE was difficult to setup.
About software that don't work, we must wait until new versions come out...
I'm sure when you update you computer from NT to W2K you has software that didn't work and had to buy new versions, so why should be different here?
Be patient.... Mobile5 is ok for now.

i double that
Rayan & all the rest are right!!!
I can't agree less to what Rayan wrote.
It's a new OS and a beta for that matter (check out Goras thread on "WM2005 that I can share"), If I'm not mistaken it's not also intended for Himalaya, judging on the memory problems just solved(!) by Buzz, toenailed, XdaJojo, mamaich & all the other contributors as well.
Personally in my opinion its a lot 'solid' than the WM2003 & SE since it has to crash yet on my xda II, as mentioned by Rayan even the initial release of the OS with limited memory was stable.
The problems with the apps like backup & camera are being solved one-by-one, MMS which doesn't even start before is now working (check out the threads on WM2005 in the forum).
Even now, the benefits of using the OS in terms of performance, stability & looks far outweighs its limitations (in my humble opinion) just be patient & leave it to the WIZARDS (Buzz, toenailed, XdaJojo, etc. etc. etc).
Besides, hey ttseng this is the xda-developers forum & we all are having fun testing, tweaking, & breathing new life to our "soon to be outlawed" XDA II ....... if not for the WIZARDS in the forum !!!!! Notice the request for the OS on the other xda models, aren't we lucky we have the WiZARDS working on the HIMA?
Cheers!
works flawlessly on XDA2 Himalaya!!!!!!!!
best os and most stable one ive come across ,wm200se never really happy but this WM2005 is and has been stable without a single hard reset or rest since install.even self configured the o2email and hotmail!! took the o2 uk config & connections setup file from a XDA2s_1-12-178-WWE_UK_Extended_ Rom.
Is there more than one version of WM2005 kicking about?
I successfully installed WM2005 on my XDA II, but I couldn't get many 3rd party apps to install on it. So I was surprised to see screenshots with certain utilities running ok.
I was wondering if there is more than one version of it floating about on the net. The one I installed was found on these forums, but I have recently downloaded another off usenet.
They are both himalaya.
I am sure a non-beta copy will rear its head on here sooner rather than later (I hope!)
Cam
this version is in the ftp section ,the rom has a file name of
wm2k5_XDA2_HIMALAYA_O2_fullRAM.rar
Yep!
That's the one!
That would make both copies I have the same.
Is this a late BETA or even an RTM version?
Now that the OS has been officially released I am guessing it's a race for someone to post the released version ;-)
the official full version is released?
wow!
so when can we have it for download here?
i am planning to put off my upgrade till the full version comes out.
currently i am on the win2003se which i aint very happy with!
plz advise...
thanx everybody.
It out but you cant get it.
I have a friend who is a manger in Microsoft. I sent the MS link of the offical release and asked if it can be obtained from the internal web software store. At the moment it cant and I feel it will also never be the case (2003 the end user could never buy).
So we are back to the carriers and if they will ship 2005 as an upgrade for ood devices or only on new (MDA XDA IV).
Dont think one needs to be a rocket scintist to answer that, was not one of the devices never shipped with 2003, the way I remember it it was buz that did a Chines to English translation.
So at least w on the BA side have to wait untill something gets leaked.
A little help with WM2005 upgrade please!!!!!!!
I see that most people have upgraded to WM2005 without much trouble, but not me!! I am with o2 and I've just upgraded and I can't us GPRS (it keeps trying to dial 193.113.200.195 and then drops the conx even though the IP is entered in the APN section) I can't run Worldmate pro (not compatable), TOMTOM 3 (need to upgrade to ver 4.4) pick up email etc etc.
Could I have the details that you need to enter into your XDA to connect to o2 network via GPRS so that I can access hotmail, messenger, MMS, Internet etc etc
I hope you can help as I don't want to downgrade to the old windows version.
i can send u a O2 customisation cab file if u need ,however your phone must b on contract with O2UK not payg or orange etc..
Yes Please!!
That'll be great. yes I am with O2 contract.......
where is the awesome rom !!! please
iam running w2005 in my XD2..but still MANY applications cant be installed..and i was surprised to see the screenshot (above) with many applications runing ..BUT i couldnt find the ROM...i found only the one for XDA2s..."XDA2s_1-12-178-WWE_UK_Extended_ Rom" actually is a zipped file with no rom inside..just many cab files ..can anyone help me please...thanks guys
Hello all,
With all the awesome chef's in the kitchen it is hard to ask this question... but I will.
I would like to know what the most stable WM6 rom is, In your opinion.
I have used Black 2.0... for 2 weeks (seemed flawless)
Then I tried Tried 2.5 then LVSW, and even Custel's ROM but get random freezes, I grab the phone and its froze, missed how many calls?? I can't have this.
Something I might be doing you say, possible but I have even installed no additional apps, and only sync to exchange. I see others having some various issues with differnet roms. So this prompted me to ask the question I have.
So whats the most stable ROM?
i use black 2.5 with his new memory.cab and works great no problems. what programs are you using b/c it may be related to them. maybe use sktools to delete some unneccesary programs from starting on boot and go from there.
Black 1.2 with a weeks+ of working it to perfection. No need to flash anything else for me until WM7 comes out. lol
Coming back to a froze device sounds like you have the sd card lockups, and not rom related, but if you dont have a card installed, dismiss my post.
I was using Black 2.5, I have a lot of freezes in particular when I activeSync and I do activeSync A LOT, (freeze about every 3rd time I activeSync). A few miss call, and call which I have no audio.
I switch to LVSW 4/23 (FULL version), currently with the same applications installed on Black 2.5, my phone seems to be running well, no freezes yet for half a day already. (ActiveSync more than 10 times already)
I am not saying there is any problem with Black 2.5 rom. A lot of people are very happy with Black 2.5. What I am simply saying is that with the set of applications that I need (a few of them are beta apps), LVSW seems more compatibility than Black.
P.S. Using PhoneAlarm, PocketInformat, CEStar, ISilo, Cyberon Voic Speed Dial, and SplashID
I've had no freezing issues, only app I install is im+
I am running Black 2.5 and I too am having similar ActiveSync problems. And it freezes every third time as well. Strange....

Previously I was using Black 2.0 and never had one freeze. But since I upgraded to 2.5 I get random freezes like couple times a day, I suspect this could be due to the new OS build? Once I have time I would probably reflash it back to 2.0 cuz it's rock stable for me.
Black 2.5 is working sweet as for me.
Couple of freezes with LVSW and XDA Live, but nothing major, i had freezes with the OEM rom, its just what phones and computers seem to do these days!!
I;ll stay Black, but at the end of the day, use the rom, which you think you will get the best community support, has the best community friendliness and if you ever do have troubles, you shouldnt be troubles trying to fix them!
keep in mind that these ROMs are essentially beta (even if based upon the "final" WM6). they do not undergo the rigorous testing that a carrier would provide.
if you are unwilling to deal with this (and RTFW for answers), then you might be better sticking with the factory shipping WM5 roms...
I like Custel's rom, support is there, and rom is quick n smooth
LVSW 4/23
The full version of LVSW 4/23 is the most stable so far for me. This is the first of the WM6 ROMS I can open and run Netfront, Newsbreak, Pocket IE, Messaging, Camera, Resco Explorer, get a phone call at the same time and still have no freezing. I did a little tweaking to it, but out of the gate it is just fine. All I really needed to install in the Keyboard fix and the Cingular settings.
noop, the reason you freeze alot or crashes alot is becoz of CE-Star..all i know is LVSW does not have the problem, but all other rom does...
Don't use the one from WM5, i remember there is a lite version on this fourm (topic x01ht showing chinese or sth)
Why i know, coz i just install ce-star on black, it will never work..it will crash almost anything...The guy who made the lite has a re-edit version of Ce-star for crossbow, that you have to try your own..since all i need is viewing~
They are all good!

We are all one big happy community here at XDA Developers!
For me with the earlier round of ROMS LVSW 4/23 worked the best. Zero problems. Haven't finished trying out the latest batch yet so I can't say. The bottom line is that with these ROMS you really do have to try them all and make your decision on which one best meets your needs when coupled with the software that you use.
All of these cooks are turning out some nice ROMs, the problems are more frequently caused by programs that are not yet certified for WM6 and the cooks, of course, have no control over this.
I would also suggest not to use any program to clean your OS, e.g. memory maid as it seems become unstable for all rom after cleaning the system with this kind of software.
Hi all,
Thanks for all your responses. I agree support from this forum family is awesome. I also agree with trying several roms to find the one that best fits my needs (but I don't yet know what they are, I just moved from a treo 650, and prior was a treo 600)
I am on LVSW now, I will try it for a bit and see how it goes. I do like Custels as well... Hmmm decisions, decisions. lol
Well thanks again for your responses and thant you Chefs for all your diligent work. You're the Kings in my book.
Comparison Page???
Would it be posible for the creators of the roms to tell us ALL of the bells and whistles that each of them has on it, and someone could compile a chart or page to compare them all? Obviously, the Voice Dial function is important to me, and I dig the Space Invaders, but there is so much more. I would be glad to do it if I could get the info on each with which to begin. As for Stability; is there a way to do a survey that would allow us to rate them according to the opinion of the users here regarding speed of boot/reset and stability and whatever anyone else can think of?
I recently moved to the Dutty Premier Windows Mobile 6 - Full Edition - Version 1 and So far I am very happy with it. And it appears to have all the tools and toys I want and need . . . so far.
Thanks,
If one doesn't already exist, someone please set up a wiki page for comparisons and we'll sticky it.

Custel Cingular 1.2
The only WM6 ROM I have upgraded to is Custel's Cingular 1.2. It was a problem free upgrade and I have not experienced a single freeze and the only soft resets I have done were those required to install other applications. Unless someone, including HTC or Cingular, comes out with a version that adds features that I can't live without (and are not added to these cooked ROM's on this forum as CABs), I will be happy to stay with my current version.
All i need is a simple basic working rom and links to programs that i want.
I like some of the roms here but alot are over complicated with programs i would never need or want.
A basic WM6 with a tweak program and the , MSN, HTC and Office Patches all up to date wouild suffice. (oh and doesnt take up 80% of the storage card)

Thanks for those of you who helped
dont run away so quickly, there are some decent roms in this forum, just have a look around, SCHAPS has some good one,s go for an earlier clean WM6 though one that's been hammered, and has some updates, for some reason he doesn't seem to want to provide updates to his latest Beta for 6.1.
There are a few other good full roms but its all about what you want to use the device for, I also just need a clean one not one that a chef has put all their fave apps in which bloats the build, I'm currently trying out the Shadow one which seams ok at the moment, main reason for that choice was that it states he has tweaked the bluetooth, what he's done I don't know..
and saying you've been searching since Friday... some of us have been searching for the wholy grail of ROMS for a while, I too am not a coder and don't want to brick my rom, no matter how good the destructions are, they invariably will be for the non uber geeks amongst us
Yes don't go to WM5. WM6 is much stable, dependable and you can find some good ROMs here. Though not officially launched, people here are cooking for WM6.1. It feels a bit strange to see you are going back to WM5.
Firstly decide the use of your Herms device.
Check out the applications the chefs are offering in their ROMs or you can use a clean ROM and instal cabs afterwards if you donot want to cook or expert in doing for yourself. It all depends on your personal preferences, but I feel you should not give preference to WM5 over WM6.

It doesn't have the 'latest and greatest', but hey, often the latest is not the greatest either...
Take a look at D-Lite and SuperD-Light.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=320010&highlight=superd-light
has anyone noticed how much slower wm6 runs on the 8525? I have two friends who purchased 8525's after I did, and theirs run much quicker with the old wm5 roms on them. Mine looks cooler, and has better functionality, but it seems to hang for extended amounts of time sometimes. Like when I'm replying to a text message, or just sliding the keyboard out, waiting for the screen to change into lanscape mode.
Windows 6.1 seems alot faster. you might try looking into one of the 6.1 lites. I'm useing pays with some luck

You may not quite get that combination but one of the numerous lite ROMs on the board may well suit.
Myself I'd recommend using Mattk_r's Pandora 6 (WM6.0, not WM6.1) and using the 3.60 Big Storage ROM. Very nice, stable combination. That way you can add in just a couple of things.
WM 6.0 Kitchen: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=316881
Or you could just use his 'Naked' ROM for 6.0 and add just a tweak prog from a cab.
WM 6.0 Naked ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=351274
I went up to the Pandora Naked 7 Kitchen and 'naked' ROM (still WM6.0) for a while then into the 6.1 'naked' ROM and kitchen with Pandora 8 & 9. Now I'm back with the 6.0 Kitchen and the 3.60 Big Storage ROM.

I ran Schaps 4.01 Full for a while without too many problems, I have just installed this one, as a base ROM, there are a few minor issues with the launcher app but I don't use it anyway http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=372118 seems reasonably fast can't comment on stability as I've only had it installed for an hour or so.
If you don't want all the tweaks and apps the ROM is offering just do a soft reset after you align the screen. Be sure to get a connection wizard then just pick and choose the apps you want. If you want a .CAB for something PM the person that has the ROM and ask for it.
I have been running the shaps 4.31 and although i like it its very very slow.
it keeps freezing and it takes ages to do anything.
I know no one believes me when i say i had less problems with WM5 but its that bad im seriously considering it.
I still have no way of putting the pays rom on as the loader always crashes.
Anyone else got a 6.1 rom that they recomend i can try.
try vp3g's it's very stable and not too many extras
Not sure if ROM is the correct word for it, I'm pretty well versed in computers but have never tried any of this custom firmware stuff for my gadgets. I'm want to try something new, and was planning on doing a big hard reset anyways so I figured I might as well try something new. Currently my axim is on the A12 rom, which I believe was the last official rom from dell. (feel free to correct me here) Searching around I was led to this site, and there seem to be a few different options. From my little research I've found these three.
Footballs' A17 and his WM6 rom
Lenny's WM6 rom
I figure I might as well go for WM6 since its out now, but I don't know. I like Lenny's since it seems to come with a fair amount of included software. Football's on the other hand seems to be more popular. I would like to make sure of what I'm going to use before I go about messing with my axim.
I have few requirements, the major one being that I like to use ozvga to put my axim in "true" vga mode. Can anyone offer an guidance here? Searching through the threads just left me more confused.
You can't go wrong with Lenny's L11 WM6.1 ROM! It doesn't have ozvga bundled but you can load it yourself.
Go here to get it.
Makuu's ROM has VGA support built into it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=439586
But personally I like Lenny's ROM better, and add the VGA support manually. See my sig below for the link.
Cheers
Mark
Thanks for the input, I think it's going to be Lenny's. My intent from the beginning was to add on the vga I just wasn't sure if it would support it, sorry for any confusion.
Forgot to add- Will my old programs still work?
If you want to use live msn in trueVga, mode, you must check with Markvan if his package are including the trueVga live msn dlls.
About your old programs, if some of them are using irda (like noviiremote), you have to choose one rom that has irda support.
Thanks for the input guys. Went ahead and installed Lenny's, flashing the memory turned out to be much easier than I thought. I love it, a big thanks to all you developers out there, breathed new life into my axim.
Is the LennySH version better than the Football one?
poinless thread
only way to find out whats best for you is to get flashing.
thank you
Basically, I use my TYTN to take the odd picture, write stuff on WORD, play lots of games and browse using netfront, using a older ROM, will it make difference? also, because there is well over 100 roms for either, it would be nice to know a good rom, fast, not buggy, doesnt need hard resets very often, do any of you recommend a good rom? also, although i made a rom well over a year ago, which is the best (and noob-y friendly) kitchen to cook maybe a little rom dish of my own?
Any help given is appreciated.
Regards
The reason I ask is, I have been away from PDA's for well over a year
Thanks for any help
Hi, welcome back. There are many WM6.1 rom threads on page 1 for u to check out (forget the old wm6.0). Here's a thread post's info on the same question: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=442159
6.1 vs 6.0
I like all the flash which is built into most of the newer (6.1) roms, but after trying most all of them have stayed with 6.0. The major reason is stability. I have not yet had a 6.1 rom go more than 4 days without needing a hard reset. For those who are into flashing frequently anyway, that's no big deal. But if you want a rom that works reliably, and that you can load up with software without worrying about having to reload everything after a hard reset, I'd stick with 6.0.
Best wishes all,
For the Hermes, I have to agree with Edhaas. 6.1 has never worked as solidly for me as 6.1. (My Athena is another matter.) If you can do without the threaded SMS, then stick with 6.0.
Two I recommend are:
Edhaas' SuperD-Lite (Most worry-free ROM of the 25 or so that I have flashed to the Hermes.)
Or Shamanix Ultimate V2 (Very solid with more polish than SuperD-Lite.)
And as far as Kitchens are concerned, I found the easiest to use was Matt's Pandora Kitchen. It has a lot of options to play around with, so don't expect to get things perfect the first time, but once it is set up it is dead easy to make a ROM.
