Short and simple... is there a way to use the Internet Sharing program on WM6 to share my Cingular 3g connection with my Linux OS (Ubuntu 7.04)? preciate it!
i'm going to follow this thread..
btw, the ubuntu forums are amazing, someone on there might know! http://ubuntuforums.org/
i use ubuntu on my main general use laptop.. few other distros around the house.

Technically speaking, short and simple - yes. But in reality that depends on how friendly you are with Linux.
RNDIS is supported on Linux these days. Here is an interesting alternative approach if compiling kernels is above your head - install VMware and tether with "host only" networking. Good luck.
Are they (WM6 and Linux) able to syncronise yet?
I could never get SynCE working, nor find instructions on how to get it working either. Even tried a VMWare Windows client, but because Linux wouldn't recognise the WM5/6 at the USB driver level, then the VMWare session couldn't either.
That was about 12 mths ago though ... does/can it work now?
Not to Hi-Jack the thread but I would also like to do this on OS X.
Unix/Linux- Gotta be a Script out there?
I had a great Modem Script that shared my HSDPA connection over WM5 and OS X but it dosent work with XDA Live 2.0 WM6...

On OSX make sure your device has the "Network Access Point" bluetooth profile and tether by using bluetooth PAN. You'll need to use the internet sharing app in the phone before it will work.
I'm not sure how to get it working over USB, but bluetooth is faster the the edge connection I get with the phone so I never tried.
Thanks for your reply. I will give it a go tomorrow!
Muchos ta.

I am using VMWare 6.0 Beta with WinXP Pro as guest in Fedora Core 6 host. I can use ActiveSync to synchronize my Hermes and Outlook with no problems at all. Strange that yours doesn't work. :-o
@roostar
I typed up a long guide on how to do this, but the somehow lost it(I love testing betas, but there are reasons they are beta[my browser I'm talking about])
Basically, You need a new modem script which I have uploaded for you here
There are many guides on how to do this, here is one:
Here are the steps I followed to tether my 8525 to my PowerBook G4. Should work for any Mac w/ Bluetooth.
Download the HTC TyTN modem script from: http://www.box.net/public/zxjp6ummyz
Drag the “HTC TyTN” script to your Hard Drive’s “Library/Modem Scripts”
On your 8525, click “Start/Settings/Connection/Bluetooth.” Check both “Turn on Bluetooth” and “Make this device discoverable to other devices.”
Use your Mac to establish a new Bluetooth connection with the 8525. If the Bluetooth Icon is in your top right toolbar, scroll down to “Set Up Bluetooth Device…”
Check “Any Device” (My Mac did not recognize my 8525 as a Mobile phone and calls it “Pocket PC”).
Check “Pocket PC” and “Continue.”
Follow the instructions for entering the Passkey on the 8525 and hit “next”. In Bluetooth Setup, make sure to select your device for use to connect to the internet.
Now fill in the Bluetooth settings on the Mac:
Sevice Provider: Any name you want, i.e “Cingular”
Account Name: [email protected] (ALL CAPS)
Password: CINGULAR1 (ALL CAPS)
Telephone: *99#
Check PPP Options and make sure “Use TCP header compression” is NOT checked.
Click the blue “Bluetooth Modem” bar and for the Modem’s drop down menu and check “HTC TyTN.”
On the 8525 go to Start/Programs/Wireless Modem.” Change the “Connection Type” from USB to Bluetooth. On the right soft key, hit “Menu/Start.”
Now you are ready to connect. Open “Internet Connect” go to “Bluetooth” and click “Connect.”
Everytime you want to tether the 8525 to the Mac, you will have to go to “Wireless Modem” first and turn it on before connecting with “Internet Connect.”

There are many, many, many guides on how to do this. If what I have given you is not enough, then do some googling. Google is your friend. It may take a minute or two to find exactly what you want, but if someone else has even had the same problem as you, you will find it. Here is another guide for you.
These are all for Cingular, excuse me At&T... but if you have another carrier, you can find the settings here at Ross Barkman's homepage. he maintains a list of u/p for various carriers(international) and has done more for one's ability to connect to the internet using bluetooth through your phone's nternet connection. It is a great resource.
Everything I have given you should at least get well on your way, if not all the way there. It works well(better when I use it where they have 3g, in my area[sw. florida] it will be installed later this year ).
Hope this helps.

About to bump a really old thread:
As of today, I have USB tethering working with Internet Sharing and WM6. You have to use the usb-rndis-lite driver from the synce project and apply a patch to it to get it to recognize the hermes in Internet sharing mode. For me I prefer USB tether since I don't run my battery dead as quickly without BT on. In any case, if anyone's interested in the patch I'd ask on the linux-usb-devel mailing list or check the archives there. Hopefully it'll be in the kernel sometime... if it ever makes it all you'll have to do to get your hermes to work is plug it in.
Ok...found the magic bullet for anyone that is still looking to do this. I took this from pdaphonehome LINK
I now have my 8925 tilt working as a cellular modem for my laptop running Ubuntu 7.10. This solution actually works really well...if anyone has trouble hit me up I can get you through it.
----Quoted----
After many hours of tinkering, I got USB tethering with wvdial.
First, start the Wmodem program on the Tilt and select USB. Then click Menu-->Start
On the command line type: /sbin/modprobe ipaq vendor=0x0bb4 product=0x00cf
Now plug in your USB cable
If you type dmesg you should see that ttyUSB0 is now initialized
Create a /etc/wvdial.conf with the following:
[Dialer Defaults]
Modem = /dev/ttyUSB0
ISDN = off
Modem Type = Analog Modem
Baud = 460800
Init = ATZ
Init2 = ATZ+CGDCONT=1,"IP","ISP.CINGULAR"
Init3 =
Init4 =
Init5 =
Init6 =
Init7 =
Init8 =
Init9 =
Phone = *99#
Phone1 =
Phone2 =
Phone3 =
Phone4 =
Dial Prefix =
Dial Attempts = 1
Dial Command = ATDT
#Ask Password = on
Password = CINGULAR1
Username = [email protected]
Auto Reconnect = off
Abort on Busy = off
Carrier Check = on
Check Def Route = on
Abort on No Dialtone = on
Stupid Mode = on
Idle Seconds = 0
Auto DNS = on
Lastly create a file called /etc/ppp/peers/wvdial containing the 2 lines:
lcp-echo-failure 0
lcp-echo-interval 0
Now at a command prompt type wvdial
You should see it connect and get an IP address
You can put the modprobe statement in /etc/rc.local
Hope this helps... it works for me (I am posting this via the USB tether right now)
Also, can an admin change this thread name and add a SOLVED to it?
Regards,
SC
You can accomplish this relatively easy by using a bluetooth dongle. I think this would work with MAC too. With Bluetooth its using standard bluetooth internet sharing/networking technology, whereas Activesync is a bit more Microsoft-centric.
Google around the ubuntu forums for some tips. There are some threads out there with this topic. I was successful at it, but unfortunatley I don't remember the exact steps. I"ll poke around my laptop later and see if I can't dig up the script i created.
Plugging the bluetooth dongle in every time became a PITA and a drain on my phone's battery so i just switch over to my windows partition if I really need some 3G action.
I also made it work with a Windows VM running under Virtual BOX in Ubuntu. Again, not as elegant, but it worked.
Good luck.
Two Way Street?
Is there any way of reversing this? For instance, using the Ubuntu box's internet to pass through on to the WM device (Internet-->Ubuntu-->WM). I currently have an IP address via rndis (169.254.2.2) on my Ubuntu for my WM device, but am uncertain how to get the packets to "jump" to my eth1 device. Any help would be appreciated.
I can't get it to phone home. I get the following error when I... "wvdial".

Hi there.
Which is the best WM6 ROM to use with BB Connect?
I use the following on a regular basis:
1) BB Connect
2) Remote Desktop
3) Putty
If I use that Pandora's Kitchen - will it automatically do the HEX stuff for BB Connect?
I'm not sure if this is possible but, can I put a loopback adapter in my WM 6.1 rom?
I'm trying to do a network file share over the internet using SSH, I have it set up on my home machine and my laptop works fine for it, but I don't know how to set it up on my tytn without a loopback
What you mean without loopback? You already have loopback (localhost, 127.0.0.1), because of TCP/IP protocol . To be sure, you can use my PingBox from my signature to check it out.
Best regards,
aDEO
I'm using my pda *only* with BT sync, a lot of BEAUTIFUL roms lack of this!
I've goggled about this and searched in registry to find the fix. I do not have much time to try this but may be only a trgistry fix, take a look at these links and compare 2 registry of 2 roms where on the 1 work.
I think the bug is in Bluetooth control panel applet which will not create registry entries in RasBook, and also in rom where Bt sync does not work there is no PPP via Bluetooth connection.

I can confirm my last opinion: it's a XIP lack, no reg, no dll, no fix
because the XIP lack of "Bluetooth Device" extension.
Working 6.1 XIP are bundled here (tested):
- tnyynt 011
- karmba
- finixnover 3.6
Next weekend I will try to find XIP differences, thank you for wait
You can use RasTool.exe to see what ras devices have you got.
20080923
Done a lot of new test-mergin-building new roms, no good news:
- exchanging dll from a working rom to other via cab or ncb does not solve the bug
- merging registry does not solve the bug
* may be the XIP? may be the boot.rgu?
I have discovered what does not work on the wrong rom: it does not "have" the "Bluetooth Device" in RAS, this will abort creating the RasBook entry. If you can create via API the rasentry, this will NOT work! because the rom does not complain the Bluetooth gateway.
What can I do? I can say if we can find the fix, we will can build also a Activesync via TCP!! or vpn if you need. because it will be a rasentry, manually created.
What's next? I will try to make syncing using existing wifi connection.
20080922
I've done some test with and w/o BT sync... I've found interesting differences between 2 roms: Rasbook is not updated on w/O BT sync!
I've attached the missing registry entries, using this reg on the same pda but with the other rom is will "try" to popup the connection dialog... this may be a good starting point! because if I can understand how to write the right Rasbook entries I can write a program which fix this bad bug
--------------------- OBSOLETE end -----------------------------------
These are only my 2 cents, may be we can find the fix together
Tommorrow I will read some msdn documentation...
Good night people!
this will be very appreciated, THANK YOU for what you are doing, your topbar app is really wonderfull, i know that you'll solve this problem too
I was going to open a post too because with two roms I've tried (ervius and elegance) I can't activesync with bluetooth. I'm not so expert as you but what I've seen is this. With a device that can sync with bluetooth when the pda has found the pc with activesync it checks the serial port and see that there's AS on that port. You can clearly see it because the AS icon get green and start rotating. While with a pda that doesn't connect the pda only see that there's a serial port connection available but doesn't try to connect to it to check what's connected there so it doesn't find AS and can't give it as a service.
I tried all the different bluetooth stack (toshiba, widcomm, bluesoleil and microsoft) and spent a lot of time on that but found that the problem is rom related as you say.
If you have any idea on how th solve this issue I'd be glad to help.
Oh and I'm Italian too so if you want you can PM me in Italian!

Bluetooth system WM 6.1 for ActiveSync
I am a new cooker of French’s Rom and I saw many subjects treating the problem of ActiveSync by Bluetooth, I found recently a BT system of the build 19217 which has this function and I port it on 2 SYS: 20275 and 20755 ( in development with Home UI ++) and in my big surprise that works. You can add an other XIP , it work also .
BT system link : http://www.megaupload.com/?d=OBH1TV0J
SYS 20275 040C (French) language :
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=J76YTT20
You can try these 2 Roms before to cook if you want but its are in French language :
My Manila2D Rom with Xip 19971 and Sys 20275 : http://www.megaupload.com/?d=ZPYG4L4O
After the first reboot just install youtubeplayer.cab in the boot folder and active FtouchFlo in Démarrer_Programmes_Outils ; you have an full Manila2D Rom .
My recently Lite Rom with Xip + Sys 20755 : http://www.megaupload.com/?d=K98KLYTA
For the others Rom users , i had created a small soft , install it in Main Memory ;
In last step of the sponsoring of the BT, type on "Advanced" then about " Serial port", a new page will open, click " Serial port" and "ActiveSync" then "OK".
Open Activsync and in menu choose in "Menu" Bluetooth connection ".
Excuse me for my poor English .
YOU ARE THE MAN!!!!!!
I installed the cab you just placed here and now everything works fine and flawlessly!
I have no words to thank you!!!!
If you are a beginner cooker well I must admit you are really good!
Thanks again
ASync BT
I've tryed on 5.22222 Ervius Rom but it doesn't work. I don't see any com port in the menu "advanced" when i want to create a bt connection
After Pin code 0000 on PPc and PC , left softkey is :"Done" ; right softkey is : "Advanced" , click on advanced , on the next page click in the case "Serial Port" then "Save" , a new page will open and click on the case "Serial Port and "ActivSync" .
MMMMM unfortunately it did not worked for me. It displayed AS icon, but never connected.
I HAVE my previous computer BT pairing showing ActiveSync as an option (selected and working), I've had my actual computer with ActiveSync, ¡and Synced!
But suddenly ActiveSync dissapeared from my current laptop settings, and Active Sync option has neven been shown again, no way to link via Serial Port or the utility in this thread.
NO ACTIVE SYNC PROFILE EVER SHOWN AS AN OPTION. (without patch I mean)
Any idea on how to make it back AND WORK?

Noted, Thanks.
BTW it "returned" after changing some settings in AS COM Ports without "serial" port pairing, but I'm unable to fully explain the thing. Just be sure your "Allow connecting one of the following: COM X" in your PC Active Sync connections Settings is set to COM 7
Hope it helps, a really confusing and not well documented issue.
Hi everybody,
I am trying to setup a simple DUN connection to internet provider in Netherlands
This is a sort of open public network.
My PPC is HTC Touch Pro2
OS: WinMob 6.5 pro
ROM 1.88.404.3 (67102) NLD
I have made the following configuration:
My ISP
Name = KPN DirectInternet
Modem = Mobile Modem
Telefoonnummer = +31676012321
User name = kpn
Password = is not needed
TCP/IP:
Use server-assigned IP-address = yes
Use SLIP = no
Use soft-compression = yes
Use IP-header compression = yes
SERVERS:
Use server-assigned IP-address = yes
The PPC starts to make connection, but after several seconds I get an error message:
“Due to unknown reason cannot make connection. If this problem remains, you have to reset your mobile apparatus to factory default …”
I have made the hard reset, but the problem remains.
I have called technical support of HTC.
They tried to setup the same connection on their Pro2 and got exactly the same error.
So, it was it least clear that this is not a specific problem of my telephone.
Finally HTC told that they have little knowledge about dial-up connections and cannot help me.
They also told that Mobile Windows does not create a modem log files.
So it is not possible to trace what exactly the problem is.
Can anyone help, please?
Is any way there to create a modem log file ?
Has anyone the same problem?
Thank you very much in advance !
Hello again XDA!
I've been working on a FTP Server for rooted Windows Phone 7 phones, and I've got it already working.
Here's a screenshot of it in action:
I will release the server hopefully today. Please leave comments on what you think.
I think this will be a really nice feature for our wp7´s,thx for you hard work

Thanks! I ran to a little issue with my Silverlight installer app so the actual release is delayed a bit, but here are the binary files and needed registry modifications for people who want to try it:
Unzip the attachment and copy ftpd.dll to the \Windows\ directory on your phone.
Needed registry edits:
Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Services\FTPD]
"FriendlyName"="FTP"
"Dll"="FTPD.Dll"
"Order"=dword:9
"Keep"=dword:1
"Prefix"="FTP"
"Index"=dword:0
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\COMM\FTPD]
"IsEnabled"=dword:1
"UseAuthentication"=dword:0
; "UserList"="add;semicolon;separated;list;of;users;here" ; NOT TESTED, MIGHT NOT WORK
"AllowAnonymous"=dword:1
"AllowAnonymousUpload"=dword:1
"AllowAnonymousVroots"=dword:1
; The directory sent to the FTP client
"DefaultDir"="\\" ; Note that this is actually only one \ but the other one is there for the registry file parser.
; Idle time (in seconds) after which the connection is automatically closed. Default = 5 mins
"IdleTimeout"=dword:12c
Now after a restart your phone should be accessible via FTP.
This is really interesting ...
But is there any good FTP client for Windows Phone ?
It would be a shame to have the server and not the client ...
Yes,i can upload my files to my lumia710!at Temp/ftp.
but,i did't see it on the FTP software.
thank you very much.
Pics was here!
Hmm, interesting. I removed some debug-only registry entries, but could you also try adding these and then reboot:
Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\COMM\FTPD]
;To control logging
"DebugOutputChannels"=dword:2
"DebugOutputMask"=dword:17
"BaseDir"="\\Windows"
"LogSize"=dword:1000
Also remove the UserList entry if you added it (was commented out) and try FileZilla.
I'm very busy with school and christmas stuff right now so I can't release the Silverlight app just yet.
Hi Jessenic.
Thanks for nice work. I have mobile device here only, I will send you tomorow my "installator" source code, which is xap application, able to copy files from its content (Isolated storage) to any directory (\Windows , \Program Files etc.), to prepare needed registry changes and to create startup link (switch on cause starting any native exe on phone booting time, it is not needed for your dll). You can try instalator behaviour on simple profiles changing application from http:/HTC7Pro.howto.cz/Profiles/ProfilesWP7.xap (install application, which automatically switch to silent mode on the night, installator can start/stop application and deploy/remove system startup link by UI buttons).
I do not understand good - is possible to connect this server by GSM internet, or by local wire(less) net only? If local only, do you mean is possible to prepare GSM connection? How can be server identified on global net, when GSM does not allow solid IP without any web side daemon? Local filesystem connection solved Ultrashot, local FTP solves directory security, but a few of people will use it.
Second question - I want to make ftp client plugin to Phone Commander. Have you any usable sources (I can send you simple PCMD plugin interface) to help it?
M.

It seems as exception. I will finished registry library next week and send you new installator. Old version use native exe to change registry, no simple way to find error exists. New Installator version with Native->Managed TRACE macro (see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=35820222#post35820222) can be simply debugged in VS2010 Express for WP.
EDIT: Native debug TRACE is finished here. If you have installed VS2010 (may be Express) for WP7, I send you Installator sources to see, where exception occures. If you have got VS2008 Proffessional with VM 6.5.3 DTK too, you can edit native sources yourself, or I can add traces to native function, which will crash in your VS2010.
This way is realy awesome!
Thx again, coolest thing, you can activate Internet Connection Sharing and
people can download files from your "server" really cool. ftp server on the go *g*
tested and works!
Isn't there an official xap to install this server on the phone yet ?
I don't want to manually put files on my device ...
thx

I ran to a little problem, the thing is that you cannot uninstall the FTP server because it starts at boot time and it would need to be stopped before the registry entries can be deleted. You can disable it though, but not completely remove. I am not at home and I don't have VS2008 on my laptop so I cannot create a native method to stop the FTP daemon. If you are interested, I can send you the current XAP I have though.
Martin7Pro has posted a xap

True, but I cannot give support for that. If you run into any problems with that you need to ask Martin7Pro.

You think you are going to fix this problem ?
I prefer to wait for your proper release.
