How would I go about flashing my phone back to wm5? Or should I? I never really used wm5 and went straight to wm6. What do you guys think is more buggy? I have a feeling wm6 is or maybe I just need to reinstall it. It nothing specific just random bugs like sometimes the screen light wont turn off, memory running out, and just other things that happen. So should i flash to wm5 or reflash wm6 in hopes of having it fix issues.
Stay with WM6. It rocks. There are fixes for just about everything, you just have to look around a little.
Sounds to me like you hard a bad install and something went wrong. I would re-install the WM6 ROM from TMO here --> http://www.t-mobile.com/wmupgrade/
After you install (W/O memory card installed) it go here --->http://howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=1160147
Hope this helps.
So what exactly does having the memory card out do when your installing? Ill do a reinstall when I get home.
Not sure but I've read that many people choose to do a clean install without anything extra like storage cards installed. Something about an endless reboot loop. There's a big thread about in on HOFO.
May i ask what the Pros and Cons for both WM5 and WM6 ROMS are?

hahaha no sir. I have just ordered my DASH and while reading through the threads, ive seen lots of bugs, etc when WM6 ROM is used.
By pros and cons, i meant the essential performance of the unit when using WM5 or WM6, like battery life, speed, etc
people freak out when they upgrade and think everything is going to be the same as wm5 only better. there are very few real bugs in wm6 and those have all been fixed here.
there are still some apps that don't work but there's nothing we can do about that. i'm sure the devs will update their products soon.
speed is slightly faster but everything else is about the same performance wise. i actually have a little more memory with wm6 then i did with wm5 but programs still leak so its best to keep them closed.
all the other enhancements make it a no brainer to upgrade especially if you are just getting it and haven't loaded it up with apps and tweaks already.
thank you lafester for the quick reply
I'm staying with WM5 for the simple fact that I still have "voice tags" !!
does anyone knows if there exist a Widcom stack to hack over the MS stack ??? simply for more BT profiles ??? I also own the Axim X51V and having the Widcom stack rules !!! MS BT stack is the pit !!!

comparing the 2 ROMs ( HTC WM5 for S620 & WM6 T-mobile )
HTC S620 = 23+ MB
T-Mobile = 19 + MB
this is after a fresh ROM upgrade/downgrade ... from rogers S621.
how did you get more ????
I do agreed however ... that WM6 is a little zippier
maybe because i have the dash so we are comparing different starting roms.
ive read somewhere that there is a built in IM for yahoo, etc in WM5 ROM. If this is true, is it also available in WM6 ROM?

yep but it doesn't connect over wifi, I think it might be designed to only use GPRS so t-mobile can make revenue from it.
Anyone know how to manually remove all the t-mobile programs from the dash? Mine is only sim unlocked but not cid so I can't install the HTC S620 rom.

I'm thinking to upgrade my BA (Qtek 9090) to WM2005.
Few things i would like to know. Is it safe procedure? Or is it possible to b0rk my device for good?
Another thing is that is there a site where you could find programs or utilities or WM2005 features that doesn't work?
If you have to ask, you shouldn't do it. I have been working with computers in all shapes and forms for 20 years, and it was pretty difficult to get this right.

Have to agree with Mastif with this.. I have converted twice now from WM2003SE to WM5 and then converted back again.. Personally, provided you follow the advice in Wiki, you shouldn't have a problem but..
If your BA is working exactly as you want it to, then why change.. Others on here have changed because they fancy a new look on their BA whereas some have changed for the improved BT performance, etc etc..
WM2003SE with the latest 1.42 T-Mobile Rom (and ExtROM) are perfectly good enough for me right now.. It does what I need it to..
I guess what I'm saying is that if you're not comfortable changing to WM5 and there's no real need then why do it..?
Hope this answer helps..? I'd hate to see a post on here form yourself with the title "Help - I've Borked my BA!"
Cheers,
Infra,
Well i was using WM5 since it was released for BA. Just a couple of days back i shifted to WM2003SE because there was no radio service. However within 1 day of my usage it got soft reseted at least 10 times. I know that some might say that the softwares installed were not correct. However the same programs are installed WM5. It has not soft reset even once. For me i think that WM5 is more stable even in this leaked version. You might loose some of your favorite SW if it has not been updated for WM5.
Just my $0.02.
Best Regards,
Hemant.
Hi guys!
Just a thougt and input from everybody after exposure of variety of ROMs.
How is individual's experience with his favourite rom and why and what does he feels about other roms.
Let's start
I have experienced Imate, Orange, Qtek, O2 and latestly Dopod ROMs and found
Imate as standard
Qtek as little fast
Orange as TURTLE even in this new environment
O2 as stable
Dopod currently using.
what's your experence???????????
My personal experience -
Dopod - using now. Stable and fast wake-up.
O2 - rate it the same as Dopod.
Qtek - slightly faster but somehow, it hanged more often vs. Dopod and O2.
Imate - the base but most stability issues for me comparing to above.
would you mind giving the version numbers u used. I cant figure out with ones to use!
Dopod - very happy with it, also on the Wizard
could someone point me to a link for the dopod 900 rom? I would be very thankful!

Well, ever since got my exec 1 week ago, been crashing in on 3 Roms so far.
Qtek - Currently using, no hang so far.
O2 - Slightly slower compared to Dopod and Qtek.
Dopod - Stable.
I have tried the Jasjar, O2, and QTEC ROMs. I prefer the QTEC ROM because it has both A2DP and AKU2 support. I have been using it for more than a month, no crashes, all is working fine, and stable on my O2 Exec.
I believe any type of hanging in any ROM is due to a 3rd party app that you have installed. As long as you can sort it out, then it will work as you expected.
Does the new Dopod ROM have both A2DP and AKU2 support?

Nope, hence i am hanging on e qtek on my exec
Flashed my out-of-date Vodafone ROM with the latest i-mate WWE ROM with the latest radio ROM. The i-mate ROM is quite handy as it sets up the GPRS and MMS settings for you after a fresh flashing. Very stable too!
I am totally agree with ctklcmd.
All ROMs are almost the same.
No speed differences. It depends just for your moods and 3rd party apps using. With stability is the same opinion.
I tried all of ROMs with all of RadioROMs.
Almost - if not totally - the same the last ones.
Differences are usually in extendedRoms.
Biggest help would be another 64MB RAM.
It is the main fuc*ed up thing in Universal.

I tried a lot.. I noticed a difference in
Radio 1.11 - Bluetooth headset seemed to sound better
My MDA is at the shop, so I dont knwo the other ROMs I am using.
I know I mixed and am running the latest T-mobile Extended Rom, but the latest Windows ROM.
What I notice a real difference with are the bundled programs in teh extended ROM.
The current T-Mobile Extended ROM (I Think its the T-mobile one), has Voice Commander that I didnt have in other ROMS. So it can take voice commands to dial which I think is cool, its not overly accurate and in my car I have to almost scream to get it right.. but if your by yourself in the car, screaming the numbers is safer than trying to dial.
Does anyone have a list of which ROMs have which programs?
BTW. while I am at it.. what the heck is Enroller? Does anyone have a list of the useless programs we can safely delete if we unlock the Extended ROM.
I dont want to go messing with the unlocking the ROM and screwing up something to reinstall but I would love to get some programs from some ROMS I have tried and put them in better ROMs.
I.E. I dont want to lose Voice Commander, but know I have only seen it on one or two ROMS. so if I could save it to my computer and reinstall it on a ROM without it that would be great.
Dopod 900... hmmmmm.
Is that an english version? I thought dopod roms are chinese or something like that
ALSO does it have both aku2 and a2dp? is pdf reader included. I am rightnowon the latest qtek rom and was under the impression that on my dutch mda pro I should only install the european roms as they are wwe.
thanx in advance

Just to know.
Pdf reader, voice command utility, enroller... are not in the ExtendedROM but there are shortcuts there for them.
Whole programs are Skype and an antivirus software which are few Megs. Most of the .cab files in the ExtendedROM are just some kB-s. Those cannot be a pdf-reader program or a voice commander which need megabytes. Secondly it is not just "it cannot be" but it is not. I looked in all of the cabfiles. Most of them are just shortcuts and registry values.

seems stable enough to me, im well happy with LVSW ROM
wm6 is faster, trust me it worth it
I'm using the LVSW ROM here and everything is working good here too. It's not a big change like WM2003SE -> WM5.. but there are some nice changes in WM6. I find it as stable as WM5 for a normal user like myself. By not upgrading you are cutting yourself out from the "Trinity Mobile 6" forum in xda-developers... which should be reason enough to upgrade alone...
I'll offer some ridiculous opinion.
It is worth upgrading to WM6 once you have already upgraded to WM6.
But truthfully, there isnt that much extra in WM6. So it's not especially worth upgrading until you have upgraded... at which point you have nothing to lose.
I suppose it won't do any harm, if it is faster, I would be interested...but in what way? Is that just in running apps and stuff? Also, what's the user memory available?
Well, I found it worth switching to mUn's version, its faster, I have office 2007, better wifi, not any major change, but yeah, its worth it!
Most of those switching at present are doing it 'because they can'
We want to have the most up to date devices, and we love fiddling and sometimes faffing, sometimes f***ing!
If your PPC use is mission critical, don't even consider it until RTM versions are available. Both current WM6 versions are works in progress, fantastic though they both are.
Each has strengths/weaknesses and these forums are invaluable in shaking those down; hopefully before too long we will have fully functional versions we can recommend to everyone.
Once mun_rus fixes the ActiveSync problems, we will be much closer to a fully configured WM6 build which is fast and reliable, and there is no doubt at all the LVSW won't be far behind.
Hopefully their sterling efforts will shame HTC into providing a 'factory' ROM for those who don't like the risks involved in unofficial ROMs, but I suspect that these 2 will remain ahead of the game in providing faster, more memory efficient, customised versions.

Excellent round up of most users' opinion here I guess I'm using LVSW's version now, no huge changes and stuff, but the extra speed and cool new looks are enough for me , and of course if it's there, why not try it

Internet sharing works perfectly well
Will the same software still work? Along with backups?
I follow you , My problem is that i got too much soft on my wm5, and it'll take me too much time to reinstall all this. So can we backup from wm5 and restore to wm6 ? ( is there some changes in the registry architecture ? )

I ain't no ROM-chef, but to my knowledge the registry is very much the same on both OS'. However: i must stress that it is very unwise to restore backups that were made on a different ROM image (that's even the case for same OS ROM's, like WM5 aku 2 >to> WM5 aku 3 for instance).
For best performance without any quirks, you should best always rebuild the device (and hey; WM6 probably makes you require less third-party apps )
The only problem i see for now is that video call and VOIP don't work well on those WM6 roms, everything else is fine and nice but it kinda takes away the benefits of upgrading to WM6. I'm going back to WM5 after a week of testing but I admire the work of those fantastic devs !

Sorry to ask you guys, but after a lot of search in the forum, and playing for a while with a Touch, I haven't see a compeling reason to move my Trinity from my actual version :HTC SPA GPS Official tweaked and + or - working properly.
So that's my question: Why YOU would decide/reccomend WM6 over WM5?
Thanks a lot for the advice.

PD I did download the WM6 Faman SPA ROM, but yet reluctant to install. Help me decide!
a) keep up with the times - you'll have to eventually anyway
b) update wm6 without having to re-flash it
c) html emails!
d) looks nicer
e) other stuff which i've yet to find out about -- that's right, i haven't upgraded from wm5 to wm6 yet! still waiting for an official wm6 rom. might go with indigo full if it's not too buggy and if mun fixes the poor radio signal problem.
WM6 is:
Faster
More stable
HTML email
Updated Office
More available RAM
Nicer looking
These reasons should be enough to convince you to upgrade provided that you have the time to reinstall all of your applications and setup your device from scratch.

Granted, I will keep up with the times, but after WM2003 (full restore no longer available), the hassles of upgrading have overcomed the benefits.
I understand that what you mean by wm6 upgrades without reflashing is without reinstalling apps, isn't it?
As for html e-mails... well I don't use HTML a lot even in my desktop, nor do I check e-mail in my Trinity other than web-mail.......
For the look... you mean the gray Today screen? IT seems OK, but not to the extent of upgrading ;o))
Really, some nice points to be aware. Thanks.

Faster: That would be one good reason! WM5 is soooo sloooowww.....
Stable: my second best one!
HTML e mail... well, not a key point to me, but I'll take that one too.
Updated Office: I've never been able to do a lot of work on Office apps. It's nice to add some data on the go, as to expenses reports and so on, but not "real" formatting and the like. Too many compromises when "syncing" excel complex datasheets to name one "minus" point.
How much more RAM available are we talking?
As for the nicer looking, I admit it might be, but after one hour or so with an i-phone, EVERY WM device looks... well.... past century.....
Obviously, reinstalling all apps, the registry tweaks, the network settings, etc, is a big drawback, especially if I've to roll back everything, as happened too many times with the S200.
Well, thanks for pointing the issues for my, i'm getting closer to the upgrade.

IMHO the first two (faster, more stable) are theoretical. I've been using various WM6 ROMs, and I don't see much increase in speed compared to WM5, and the beta/cooked/hacked roms aren't as stable as well (but the official WM5 has issues too, so maybe because it's just a Windows after all...)

I was referring to the Windows Update feature on WM6 that'll allow you to download updates for WM6 via the internet as oppose to flashing your phone with a whole new ROM which'll mean re-installing all your apps etc.

Hi,
One significant speed increase: Use File Explorer to access "\windows"
This directory contains a large number of files.
In WM5 it takes very long (10-20 seconds from memory).
in WM6 it takes 1-2 seconds, hinting at significant improvements in file system routines.
This might also have indirect impacts on other functions.
Cheers
Is the original WM6 for Artemis more responsive in general use than the WM5 version? I'm also interested if the cooked ROM's (Touch 4.02 for example) have any speed advantages when running TomTom. In my WM5 TomTom is quite slow. Can anyone comment on the performance of TomTom using different ROM's? Is there any visual difference?
About battery life, I've read a lot about some experiencing power drain but others getting even better battery performance with the same ROM. Is it even possible to say whether WM6 increased battery life vs WM5 or not? Please post your experiences, as I am trying to decide to upgrade or not to, because it is a small risk aswell.
in general: DUMP WM5 !
Advantages ( amongst others) of WM6:
- no data loss when out-off battery !!!!
- tomtom and other apps run more smoothly/quickly (subjectively)
The battery-drain for sure is a concerning matter, due to being based on gsm polling problems on certaain machines/radio versions!
he last tested and afaik original artemis radio rom is version 02.98.90.

totally agree and i suggest go forward to WM 6.1
WM5 is only history

wm5 is faster in my opinion that wm6 and wm6 totally kills your battery time which is a big nusience..
also wm6 seems more complicated with the simple phone functions....
I have tried some of the cooked rom's and have so many problem with the screen auto rolling when I don't want it to and sometimes I will click on "ok" and it doesn't seem to register for 3-4 seconds....
in general for phone and email use I am going back to wm5 to get back the battery time and general usability of the phone itself...
with wm5 I hardley ever ran out of battery time however with wm6 there has been a few occassions where I have not had a chance to charge the phone in one or two days and it has gone flat when I really needed it... simple things like this make the upgrade not worthwhile IMO, even if there are better features and nicer look in wm6..
Still confused what to do then with my xda orbit!
Just found this thread.
Mixed advice it would seem.
I've just bought an XDA ORBIT. It's still got Windows Mobile 5 and has TOMTOM 6 installed.
I still don't know whether I should UPGRADING TO WINDOWS 6.0 OR NOT?
Some say TomTom6 runs better on Windows 5, some disagree.
I also have copilot 6.0 discs which I could use instead. Anyone have a preference between Tomtom6 and Copilot 6 on the xda orbit?
Thanks in advance,
Matt.
I strongly reccomend skipping WM6.0 and going streight to WM6.1, and go for the "Touch 4.01" rom. I'd personally reccomend the vanilla one, as it's the fastest, and most of the installed stuff will be useless on the bulkier roms.
TomTom 6 runs very well on WM6.1, better than I remember on 5.0, however, i'm using a much later version I got from an unmentionable place. Takes only 3-4s to load from the today screen.
As for the data loss with WM5, that's actually a bit of a fib. Non-volatile storage was introduced with WM5, and enhanced for WM6. It was WM2003/SE when there were issues with volatile storage, and the in-ability to actually turn a device off.
Hope this helps

Latest official o2 wm6 rom is shipping with radio version 3.06.90, which I found very good.
Wish there was stand alone install for this one, so I could use it with touch 4.02.
