Can some one tell me how to share my 3G connection over wifi? I need to make the phone as a portable access point.
no can do.
Bluetooth or USB
Try hitchhiker it's free! but I'm not sure if it works for sharing using 3G... try it and let me know http://www.kasuei.com/hitchhiker/
No, It doesn't support to share the 3G connection.
So use Internet sharing over BT ?
Would like to use it as a wireless access point, so I can get access from computer and iPhone, seem like I have hard time to find a solution.
share the connection with the PC by USB. Put a wifi stick/pcicard in the PC and bridge the connections, then the iFoon can have 3G too

you got this to work?
or are you saying it should work?
i have tried to share a connection this way but have had no luck when using internet connection sharing/pan.
i did get it to work this way back in the day when the phone ran wm5 and had dun.
do you have any pointers on how to get internet connection sharing in wm6 to let more than one device connect to the 3g connection?

seems like you may need an app on your pc to manage/route the connections not sure if this helps but you can try "network Magic" it give you a bit more options on the pc side for managing connections. would like to see where this goes for possible future applications. i'll give it a try when i have some free time and check with an comp tek friend of mine see what he thinks.
Yeah it sucks that no one has created a way to share the wifi connection just like we share bluetooth or usb.
We also need a proxy server that we can run on our phone.
ok, for me the boring part is the time of the connection, you can share via wifi by just turning on your internet sharing in whatever the pc connection, you just need to manually deffine your hermes wifi to 192.168.0.1 and it shares via internet sharing! The question here is that the connections stops after 10 minutes becouse of the warnig "check usb cable connection". Its very irritating to have to start connection every 10 min. !!!!!
awww...iPhones not fast enough Data-Wise for ya?
thought it was supposed to "revolutionize PDA Phones"
hah.
sorry, i had to add my 2¢ against Apple.
Beware, some mobile provider allready use NAT, thus you'll recieve a non-routable IP. I am not sure that you will be able to share a connection of this kind.
I have web and walk unlimited internet with T-Mobile which is about as fast or a bit slower than 56K. It's great though for when I'm out and about.
At home today, I connected it to my pc and activesync fired up. It showed me that I now have a new local area connection 3 specifically for the mda, as well as my local area connection 6 for my broadband. All of a sudden, my mda is as fast as my broadband connection! It loads up pages and threads as fast as my home pc does, which is on a 2MB connection. Fantastic. I didn't realise this would happen so that's pretty cool.
What you say is right but if you're sitting in front of your PC with you're MDA attached to it with around 1m or so of cable why bother using the MDA?
i would do it over bluetooth or better yet wifi
then one dont have to operate the pda right in front of the pc

Because I can use my MDA for surfing and stuff while my pc is occupied with say, gaming.

But my MDA doesn't have wifi, only the xda orbit has that, no?
I'm not sure I can bluetooth, I don't think my pc has it.

every Artemis has Wi-Fi apart from bloody T-Mobile MDACIIIs... T-Mobile removed the hardware so that you had to pay for Web'n'Walk seemed to work lol
Web and Walk works for me, what do i need WiFi for? Everywhere where there is a usable WiFi Connection i most propably have a notebook or a computer with me ^^
I have the Artemis HTC version and T-Mobile version, I have to say that I have only switched the WiFi on a couple of times in the last 14 months on the P3300, I just use the Web-n-Walk, since getting the Ameo most of my mobile internet use has switched to that device (its noticably faster) - roll on the Touch Cruse (Polaris) as that will be a true step in the right direction - Mike
I have a T-Mobile MDA Compact III and decided to get Onspeed
I pay £7.50pm for the Web 'n' Walk and a smidge over £2pm (£25 pa) for the Onspeed. The end result is effectively unlimited downloads at broadband speed on my MDA for a tenner per month. You can't get streaming downloads but I only ever use it for surfing anyway so that is no great loss.
You'd need to be in a wi-fi hotspot to get that (if the MDA had it) but I can surf wherever there is a phone signal. Including on the train and Tube on the overground section of my commute
You know it makes sense
Save yourself the £25 per year and drop the onspeed, it will not be doing anything at all for a mobile phone GPRS based internet connection, the speed is governed by the network provider and the hardware you are using - Mike

It is definitely MUCH quicker using the Onspeed browser than straight GPRS with PIE. Reformats the pages a bit but that doesn't bother me in the slightest.
If somebody was able to tell me how to speed up WnW via GPRS on a CompactIII without Onspeed I am all ears
HOW???

Dear Roman5,
How on earth did you get such a fast connection? I have tried that before but it won't connect to the internet, even though it does recognise a new local area connection. I have to exit activesync and use the MDA's 'internet sharing' software - PAINFULLY SLOW, in fact my old dial-up was faster

same here mate would really appreciate to know which settings you are using.
He isn't saying that he is getting ultra fast speeds on the PC when connected with his phone. What he is saying is that when his Artemis is connected, it uses the PC's internet connection as its own. So instead of using GPRS or Wi-Fi, it uses the computer as like a broadband USB modem
I do it with mine when its activesync. Especially when I have just flashed a new ROM and I'm using Resco Update
ah right. you mean using the pc as the modem?
but why would you want to do that? lol just use the PC.
i guess you are right tho no matter how fast t mobile provide their internet, if the phone as a 56k modem then you can only get 56k down the pc if using phone as the modem.
maybe the next model up might have a faster modem?
Yes that's right, it uses my pc's broadband connection instead of it's own gprs. I only noticed it because I connect the MDA to my pc every day to charge the phone. It's handy when I'm gaming on my pc or using some other application. If I want to surf the net at the same time, I can use the MDA at broadband speed.
Hello, I am a rookie, let us a lot of attention
Hello everyone can anyone tell me of some program which can turn my hermes into a wirless access point , i know there is a program called "WMWifiRouter" but it can only use gprs for internet access and here in our country gprs is still much expensive . I would like to have a program which can use the usb connection from my pc as a internet source .why do i need it?....... because i want to connect my few other devices such as nintendo ds to internet through it .plz plz plz can anyone help. Thanks in advance and one more thing thanks to all the great cheifs here who do wonderfull job for us specially the legendary Schaps, faria and Shamanix.anyways thanks again.
hi,
use WiFi Router.
wfg
starbase64
Thanks alot "starbase64" for replying but i already mention that wifi router is not suitable for me because it only uses gprs for internet connection and i cant afford gprs its way too expensive in our country what i am searching is a program which works like "wifi router " but uses usb connection from the pc(connected to the internet through regular lan card) as internet source not gprs .sorry for my bad english if i am not making my point clears ,thanks anyways.anyone plz help.
erhm, considering the hassle you'd be going through (even if WiFiRouter worked with USB), why dont you just dish out the 10$ USD for a cheap wireless network card for your PC?
Then simply run Ad-Hoc WiFi internet sharing from your PC.
If you're thinking of having MULTIPLE devices connect to the phone like a router, well, that's simply not going to happen. The WiFiRouter software might call itself a "router", but the WiFi adapter in the phone isn't able to handle more than one wifi connection.
If you want PORTABILITY (plug in WiFi an internet cafe PC or public PC or school PC), buy a USB WiFi dongle adapter (maybe 20$ USD)
Sure, it would mean seting up internet sharing every time on a new PC, but then again you wouldnt be assured all public PC got Activesync installed to allow internet sharing via USB from your phone anyway.
OR
have you tried UNCHECKING "Allow Wireless Connection On Device When Connected To The Desktop" in Activesync connection settings (on the PC ) and then using WMWiFiRouter?
Thanks everyone for replying but still i think i am not making my self clear ,I will check about the active sync option .Anyways thanks alot and if some one found such a software plz do inform me here or by my e-mail [email protected]
There is also this new program, ICS, in the Development & Hacking forum. I haven't tested it, but you might want to check it out.

Sorry, I really have searched everything I can think of. I have looked all over, I am just trying to find out what the regedit is to use the internet connection on my computer via usb on my t-mobile dash. I am running WM6.1 and have no signal over here for my phone. internet on the computer yes, but dash no. Does anyone know or know where I can look for it? I promise I have searched.

hook a wifi router up =)
other than that maybe put a bluetooth receiver on the pc and connect the phone to it?
I'm useing kavanas 6.1 rom i tweaked it a little but point being when i plug my dash into my comp and it syncs with active sync my phone accesses my computers internet connection which i think its designed to do. how do your internet and active sync settings look like?
under your USB to PC settings under connections do you have the Enable advanced network functionality checked?
Use ActiveSync to "pass through" this computer. That means the connected device can use the computer's network connection as if it were its own. You can use this feature to perform tasks such as downloading non-Outlook e-mail messages, to connect directly with Microsoft Exchange, or to browse the Internet.
Important Note For additional security, disable network bridging on the PC (specifically, bridging to a Remote NDIS adapter) before connecting to the PC to pass though to the Internet or a network. For more information on network bridging, see Windows Help on the PC.
Click Connection Settings.
Select Open ActiveSync when my device connects.
In the This computer is connected to list, select a connection to which this computer should connected when passing through ActiveSync.
thats from activesyncs help.
i guess i never realized it did that...yet i do it everyday...when its plugged in, edge doesnt even try to connect, it defaults to the pc
Thanks
Ok Gixxum,
You rock, I changed my deal to internet instead of automatic and it worked perfectly. I never thought to look there. Thanks. Now my roomate and I can surf the net at the same time.

Hello, I have been searching around for a day and a half now to no avail. I figure I will ask here as a last attempt before I go and buy another USB wifi adapter.
I am trying to use my HTC Dash with WM6.5 to tether an available wifi connection over to my Windows 7 PC. Basically trying to use the phone as a wifi adapter. The phone has no cell data service, but can connect to the home wifi network that is here. My Windows 7 PC has no Wifi adapter (I left it behind >.<).
Here is where I am at. The HTC Dash is connected to the Wifi network, and when I try to select a Network in the ICS program, it says there is none available. I have been able to get USB selected in ICS, and the phone connected to the computer. In Windows I see a Windows Mobile Remote Adapter in the Network Connections area when I sync the device in Windows Mobile Center. But no matter what I try, ICS sharing on the phone will not let me select the Wifi connection it has.
Through my searching I have found a lot of information on tethering 2G and 3G internet through USB, and using the phone as a Wifi Hotspot. But those where no help in this.
My friend on a G1 with Andriod can tether Wifi connections to a pc, and I am wondering if Windows Mobile can do the same thing. I can flash my ROM from to 6.0 or 6.1 WM if needed.
Thanks in advance to any advice given, hopefully someone can help me out
UPDATE: Still have no luck. I found a program called ICS Control v.21, but it only works on touchscreen WM phones, not WM standard. Which means a bunch of crashing.
This program would do exactally what I need it to do... just does not support my phone. Well the search continues... looking like I may just have to go buy an USB Wifi adapter soon.
tethering w/wifi
It does work. I'm currently answering this on my 2nd desktop Vista with my S620 via my home wifi network. Waiting for a 25' ethernet connector to hardware to wifi/modem Not quite sure how it is with a wifi adapter but 2 things I do know from experience. You shouldn't need an adapter.
1st: you can't be in Sync Center while trying to tether, at least in my case on a Vista desktop. It won't let you tether while the sync is running (or your already synced).
2nd: (this worked for me) open internet sharing on your Dash/S620, pc connection-usb and be ready to hit connect the 1st couple of seconds after pluging your usb connector into your phone, and give it 10-20 seconds to actually connect. If you wait to long to hit connect, the phone will start syncing with the computer. Won't let you tether.
RE-read post, missed thar "WinMo" remote part. My bad. Don't own Win 7. Don't know what that is.
Question: Is there an active wifi where you are ? From your post it sounds like "yes"
You do not need a wifi adapter. You do need a USB cord.
I tethered with edge for a bit, but then got to thinking. Try Wifi. It worked, but be quick.
Neither one is super fast but Wifi is definitely faster than Edge. Better than not being on the net at all. Occasionally it'll cut out, just unplug usb, get to connect screen, plug in and hit connect. Should be set.
As a side note: I also tried tethering with G1. Xferd pc driver to Vista from G1 but computer says it can't find the driver. Gave up after 2 hours.
G1 tethering works great on XP though.
Hope this helps. Good Luck. Really cool when it works.
Are you using a wifi tether or just usb?
If wifi, what program/version are you using and where did you get it? I got the ICS usb tether working, but my version of wmwifirouter.cab won't even install on the dash. cheers

I'll have to break out the Dash again and let you know. It's been sitting for weeks since I repaired LCD screen and flashed my TMO Wing. Can't seem to stop playing with it.
Give me a little time and I'll get back to you.
You do have a wifi modem, correct ? I was using usb.
Right, just to be clear, my goal is to set up my Dash to receive it's edge data and transmit that out as a wifi signal that my laptop will pick up and connect to the internet. No USB connection. I'm getting an ipad eventually and this is all to avoid that stupid 3g garbage they're hawking.
I tried a program called wmwifirouter.cab but was unsuccessful. An ad-hoc wifi network was created by my phone and my laptop was connected to it but couldn't connect to the internet. And my phone kept crashing.
Any ideas? Thanks

Well, in your case, I won't be any help. What I did was run a 2nd computer off of my Dash with a Wifi Modem.
XP in another room with a wifi modem attached on Comcast, Dash on wifi and usb to Vista computer, since I didn't have a 25ft ethernet cable at the time.
Was running Vista-Dash-wifi modem-XP to comcast so I could run 2nd computer without being hard wired.
I'm familiar with wifirouter cab. It let's you use your phone like a hotspot, correct ?
In all my searches for various things for the phones, I thought I saw a different application that did the same thing. Possibly might even have it. I'll check and upload for ya if I find it. Have hundreds of cabs/zips to search. Let you know.
Possibly google it and you might find it yourself. There's a program called: WalkingHotSpot online for $24.99 if you don't mind spending. Dash isn't listed as a supported windows device but looking at the other phones listed my guess would be it should work. Try their DEMO version, see if it works.
Good Luck.......
2AM and I was just wondering......When you received your phone, you also got a usb cable with it, right ?
Why don't you just usb Dash to laptop and use "internet sharing" ????
My plan is to set this up for an iPad, which doesn't allow internet access over a USB cable, so USB tethering is out, has to be wifi.

Do you have a home computer ? If so, get yourself a Wifi Modem and set up a home network. $40-60. Although Comcast sold me mine for $20 and I get to keep it. I can get all 5 phones on the internet at the same time, not that I need to. It'll also be so much faster then running thru Edge. Besides the fact video's don't play for crap tethered running through Edge. Just a suggestion.
My opinion stands concerning Apple. Get ready to cough up more fees for internet (ATT). They're doing away with unlimited data. Did you see their prices ?
You'll never catch me with ATT.
I just put WMWifiRouter on my TMO Wing 6.5. let you know how it worked. Setup went fine, so far.
did you try downloading the actual .cab from WMWIFIROUTER.COM it's only a trial for 21 days, the "Free" versions don't work on the dash i've tried many of them.
once you install and get it set up be sure to write down the Access ID and Password it gives you so you can connect to the WiFi signal beaming from your phone from your PC. It works for me to tether a WiFi connection from my Dash to PC though I prefer the more stable Internet Sharing USB to PC and I have an Unlimited Data Plan.
WMWIFIROUTER also lets you tether a connection from your phone via bbluetooth.
I use WMWiFiRouter and its a life saver. It lets you pretty much tether any connection to any other.
Just yesterday I was at a meeting in a resturant with some clients and used it to hook my netbook to the internet and used bluetooth as the connection to the phone. Yes, Internet Sharing can do that, but it has alot more it can do too.
You can use Bluetooth, USB (it shows up as a USB modem), or even set it up as a WiFi Router.
Very cool program and it works perfectly on the Dash. I love it.
I never tried the trial version. A friend of mine showed it to me, so I just bought it. It's under $20. Well worth it if you run into that situation often.
