Didn't work for me. Total Commander worked originally but now I can't see any files in there even though if I try to replace them it says it can't overwrite them.

... experienced the same problem. However, found a temporal solution by trying to format the Extended_ROM2 storage. Although the formatting does not work (i.e. an error message "Can't format selected storage card. Check if your card is unlocked" appears), the files in Extended_ROM are back after this unsuccessful action until a next soft reset; then the files disappear again. I reckon it could be another way of Extended_ROM unlocking protection. (???)

Hi, it´s now possible to unlock the Extended Rom? I Can see the Exteded Rom but its lock, i can´t format the storage.
I have find a Registry Key that don´t was in the HTC Prophet, you can found it in HKLM/Drivers/BuiltIn/TrueFFS1/ here is now a nex key SoftwareWriteProtect. I have change it to 0 but the Extended Rom stay locked, who can help? I need the extra Storage, please
When you unlock ext rom, basically you change security on partition.
On compact III this leads to some files to be deleted from ext rom.
Be carefull with this.

I have a HTC P3300 (Artemis) and yesterday executed the program refered in this thread to unlock the extended ROM.
I was able to saw the Extended ROM and I did a copy of all files to my PC, but 5 minuts later I cant see anything in the extended ROM.
All files disapeared. there is nothing in the extended.
I did a soft reset and a Hard Reset (error!!) and obviusly the Artemis doen't load the extended ROM files because they have dissapeared.
I tryed to copy the extended ROM files from my computer to te extended Rom again but it seems to be writting protected.
Someone can Help Me?

I have copied all the files to a temporary directory in the PDA and tried to execute all of them in the order of the config.txt file, but I can't execute the XLM files. When I execute them they open in the Pocket InternetExplorer and seems to be changes to introduce in the registry.

Beware!!! Extrom Gets Deleted!!!
I really am sorry putting you through all this trouble due to this unlocker!!!
The only way i found to rectify this problem is to reflash an original rom, e.g. from the wiki here. if you get "wrong model id" than you are not flashing the same rom as before.(e.g. orig german now english language)
remedy would be to cid-unlock your phone and than be able to flash mentioned roms.

I was first willing to cook a ROM including all these, in order to spare some space on my HERMES. I had already cooked an "intermediary" one when Tadzio issued his method to make a "shrinked" OS ROM that would allow you to use the spare space from the ROM
Since this, no point in adding all these mods in my ROM
First: making flashing safe
Download Hard-SPL-V2 from the great Olipro to avoid bricking your device. Here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=296722

Then, get your ROM.
Download the_passenger ROM shrink version of LVSW 20070320 ROM (More space available) and install it (Read threads about flashing ROMs if you are not familiar with that...)

You're going to be missing the Softbank unique way of switching to silent mode (Only available in Softbank ROM)

MMS
Softbank's MMS System is a pain because it's incompatible with "classic" MMS systems...
You can download Softbank's software... But... it's slow, big, bulky, ugly, etc... If you dont mind missing the emoticons, you should go for MMSLite
Regedit, Look for Arcsoft. Delete all references to Arcsoft (Sometimes need to be done in several times, some entries being in use if you have by mistake launched MMS Composer once since your flash of the OS...)
If you dont do these eletions, MMSLite will actually not install...

The only problem when upgrading is the Japanese input. I used sometimes (so I need it), but I I install Japanese input package you told in your post the I have a really annoying floating bat anywhere, and it's really unnoying.
There is no way to have same kind of input in enlish ROM?

Try Asukal's IME package (see bottom of page):

I'm going to work in Japan soon (1st of April) but I want to use my Hermes as my primary phone, etc. Is it possible to go to a SoftBank shop and tell them basically "Don't ask me how, but this phone is SoftBank-compatible. Now please register it into the SoftBank network and gimme a standard phone subscription. Thanks".
Meaning how can I register my phone (SIM card ? I looked and they seem to have only outrageously expensive SIM cards on loan for 108円 a day, with no 3G connectivity. Or is it possible to get a standard subscription?)?

Really? I don't get a floating bar.
Did you try it on a clean installation of WM6, or did you install it after installing the Bagojs IME? Maybe some settings in the registry are causing the bar to appear.
Also, did you set your locale to Japanese in "Control Panel->System->Regional Settings"?

You shouldn't need to install both BagojsIME and Asukal's IME package, just Asukal's. BagojsIME provides an older version of the MS IME.
Use you own phone with SB
You can pick a ZERO Yen phone to do a new contract with SB. Then change the sime card to your onw phone. Suppose you have a sim-unlock phone.

I didnt have to install anything to get the Manner mode working. I think this is implemented in WMXL. But when i set the phone skin security to 1
my phone pad disappears, turns white. Renders unusable. The only fix for me is to set it back to 0.
This might be due to the carrier setting, it happens immediately after running SB external rom carrier info.
Any ideas?

hi, i have a hand me down dopod 838pro with WM6 os. just yesterday, i decided to hard reset the unit intending to free up the memory and set it up to my own profile type but during set up, there are some cab files that the system is looking for under its extended memory. it could not continue its set up process. hope to get some assistance from all you kind-hearted experts out there. thanks and have a good day....jaymd here.

Without knowing what version of the ROM you have it would be difficult to suggest what you need, I think the easiest solution would be to either get the official DOPOD rom and do a complete re-flash from that or get one of the latest ROMS on the forum and try one of those, you MUST read the instructions on what is needed to flash your device first though otherwise you'll end up with a useless piece of plastic....
Now that ATT released the 8525 wm6 is there someone who has removed the bloat? I would like to keep the official release for stability but not the extras. Is there anything out there or can I make a request for it by someone who knows what they are doing?

mcorrie1121 you are right. I have tried most other roms and have had either stability or other issues. No problems so far with the actual official release for ATT. I just don't like the bloat, but I am not quite good enough to take it out myself and not ruin my phone.
I am trying vp3g's latest release now I will see how it works.
OK I have the wm6 .exe from ATT. I would like to break it down and edit the extended ROM to remove what I don't want. I have NBHextract, NBHgen, and Modified RUUUpdater but they may as well be Pig Latin. I have looked thru the forum and I am missing something, or is there an easier way that I don't know about. Any help?

Austinsnyc should be makin one soon. It was hinted at least. I have found his to be the most stable and fast ROM based on the old 3.62, and I used vp's for awhile. vp's ROM is very nice too, but this one just whips it, so I'm waiting.
If you want the AT&T rom minus the bloat, then flash the official rom and do a soft reset when the 3 second counter comes up. That will prevent the at&t customization software from running. The customization software consists of two parts, the first part lives in the \windows folder and is installed with the preAutoRun.exe and controlled by the PreConfig.txt file.
The second part is called by the first application and lives in the \Extended_Rom folder. You cannot see this folder by default. If you install total commander and manually type the folder location in the address bar, you will be able to see the files located in it. It is installed by the AutoRun.exe and controlled by the Config.txt file.
There is an application availabe here on xda(not sure where I found it) that allows you to mount all the extended rom partitions. After you install it and reboot, the Extended_Rom will show up in the file explorer as a folder. What I did was copy all of the preconfig and config files to a folder on my computer. I then modified the preconfig.txt and config.txt files to suite my tastes. I also edited the .xml files to remove the stuff I didn't want(creating all the music icons, installing the internet proxy, etc.). I put all the files I needed in a folder called cingular, and modified the path in the preconfig.txt and config.txt files to be \cingular instead of \windows and \extended_rom. Then I edited the registry settings under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm.
There are two settings that need to be changed, PreAutoRunCFG and AutoRunCFG. They point to the location of the two text files that control the installation of the bloat. You can't change the actual text files as they are located in ROM, not RAM. Once everything is sitting in the \cingular folder and the registry is modified, I kick it all off with the preautorun.exe and my customized at&t customizations are installed.
I only change/remove the things I'm sure I don't want/need. Anything I'm unsure about, I leave alone. You can tell that a lot of that stuff was written by programmers who didn't think anyone would ever look at it. Lots of commented out stuff left in there and other stuff listed as requested by so and so. Anyway, That's pretty much it. If you mess up, do a clear storage and try again till you get it just how you want it. I hope this helps someone.

Maybe you just would be happy by not installing the CUSTOMIZATION? I had the ATT WM6 for a while and if you prevent your device from customizing your Hermes (the installation after first start / screen alignment - you get a message on the screen telling you that IT WILL CUSTOMIZE YOUR DEVICE IN 3 SECONDS - simply soft reset your device within this 3 secs and you will end up with a pretty clean WM6 ROM).
There are other things that can be removed that arent included in the extended ROM, as well as other things that can be incorporated (SetAcousticParameter, anyone?). Besides, i dont have the attention span to do what thexman suggested
If i would do the soft reset right after install to keep the bloat from being installed like suggested then just added the ATT config cab would that work? The only thing I need ATT for is phone calls and SMS texts, no mms or internet. I have wi-fi for that. Then I could just find what I want and add it.
the at&t settings are only used for mms and internet. so in ur case u dont really need to install them.

OK I installed the ROM and soft reset before extended ROM install. So far so good. I can make calls and send texts. Everything else seems to be working well. I will see how this works for a few days though maybe I will try another ROM such as Schaps or another cleaned out WM6 ROM to remove some of the unwanted Windows items. Thanks for the suggestions.

This issue has been addressed in various posts throughout the forum. Next time just try to use the search feature and you may find the answer to what you seek. Anywho, here are the instructions to increase your MMS sending size limit...
1) Using a registry editor (such as Resco Registry, Total Commander) you'll need to edit a couple of registry values.
2) Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE (HKLM)\SOFTWARE\ArcSoft\ArcSoft MMS UA\Config\mm1\MMSCSetting\T-Mo MMS (whatever you've named your MMS GPRS setting)
3) Change "WAP1SendDefaultSize" from '102400' to '307200'. Also, change "WAP2SendDefaultSize" from '102400' to '307200'. After making these changes--reboot the phone.
4) Your MMS messages should now allow you to increase your sending size to 300K.

Im trying to update to 6.1 using RUU_Excalibur_WM61_Kavana_Rickys_v24_Opera
I have read the FAQ's that rickywatt posted , but I am still confused and im not sure about the steps that follow after unlocking the Dash. I have downloaded SDA application unlock and SurrealNetworksAppUnlock.cab and of course Ricky's RUU_Excalibur_WM61_Kavana_Rickys_v24_Opera
According to the FAQ that rickywatt has
i did the following:
"... install SurrealNetworksAppUnlock.cab to your phone then extract
SDA_ApplicationUnlock.exe from SDA_ApplicationUnlock.zip then
connect usb from computer to your phone wait for ActiveSync to connect once

I have no idea what to do after that

What he really means is keep hitting your space bar. The grammar in that auto.bat file is confusing at first -- I thought I had to follow the instructions and manually run the programs the .bat file was talking about. No, instead the only action you really have to take (other than connecting your phone) is hitting the center button once to get to the white screen; the rest just happens with you pressing any key to keep the batch file going.

Yes... Just flash the 6.0 ROM back to your phone. If you're with T-Mobile, it can be found on the T-Mobile site.

anyone else having sudden changes in timezone after installing rickys 6.1?
could be the buttons are getting hit while its on my hip but now its happened twice in 3 days....

hey ricky thx for the update... is there a way to switch t9 on sms to Spanish?... the intuitive language is english and is annoying when typing a sms.
Also, the "play" music & video option has no associated file and prompts and error same thing with "Word".

Having an issue with making a ringtone.
I copied an mp3 to applicationData/Sounds
But when going to Settings > Sounds...I cannot find the mp3 in there. Only the basic 5 options appear.

I've installed Rickeys other Roms but having a hard time on a new dash. I've app unlocked the phone downloaded the zip and try to run the .dat and I get the black box follow the prompts then get error cant find romupdateutility.exe.
So I try and run the update utility manually I get to about three % then get the 270 error. re install the surell .cab file run the sda app unlocked and same issue. Error 270 also is the mirror working? Can anyone send me a working RUU.zip
IN the roms you have listed i didnt notice anyone talking about the features im looking for i hae flashed the rom.I know what to do and what not to do,the only thing i couldnt seem to find was the program for internet sharing to be able to use my phone as a modem,ths feature has to be ther for me to use these roms.any ideas on this ricky,and if you have time could you direct me to your rom that has these features in it..its a must for me,i installed kavanas rom last night,worked well,loved the slide features,and the many other features,was plenty fast for me,the only thing i couldnt find was the sharing program,any help would be nice thanks...

When you push Start and go to the Accessories folder you will see the program for Internet Sharing. It's in both V24 ROMs.
