Because the aerial (antenna) for the radio is contained within the headset. Without the aerial being connected, the radio would not receive a strong enough signal for you to be able to listen to it.
Yes it is possible to alter a value in the registry, so that the device believes the headset is plugged in when it isn't, but it's a pointless exercise as you can only recieve static and white noise on the FM app.
As discussed here.
Out of curiosity, with the headset connected and listening to the radio via the loudspeaker why does the device continue to output sound thru the headphones as well? Isn't this just a waste of power? Anyone know how to disable the headphones whent eh speaker is being used instead?

Really interested in the artemis due to its fm radio and Gps....what's the Radio like?...Is it anygood?
I tried the radio on the o2 atom and found it rubbish is the artemis any better?
Also does anyone have any screenshots of the radio app in action
Cheers
FM Radio
Just got my P3300. I have to say after 7 PPC Phones this is by far the best. In regards to your question, the FM Radio is great. Very sensitive and sounds good through the speaker. However, the biggest downfall is that you have to have the headphones plugged in to the USBExt port on the phone. They apparently hold the antenna. The app won't even start unless they are plugged in. This is a major limitation I hope someone finds a work around. Apparently there is a USBExt to 3.5mm jack adapter but I don't know if this will trick the FM Radio software into starting with out the supplied headphones.
Anyway, hope that helps.
JBW
Ahhh thats good to know ...even more tempted now
You dot happen to have any screenshots of the radio app in action at all do you?
Thanks
The Radio performance is quite good, one thing I really like is the ability to set the radio going on the channel you want, switch off the Artemis and carry on listening - certainly a power saving feature. If you need to look at a screen shot try see the image below, there are other features such as sleep timer etc, but this really isn't a purchase decision to be honest - Mike
Does it come with 2.5mm or 3.5mm or others for the audio?
Neither, see bwallis post above! the audio is routed through the mini USB OR A2DP Bluetooth, this works very well, but the radio still needs the earphones plugged in as they are the aerial - Mike

Thanks for your information. Can I use BT headset to enjoy the radio instead of the wired headphone?
I don't think so - I have tried the radio running with the device conected via A2DP to the cars system, the Artemis Radio plays through the wired headset while any other noise is routed over bluetooth through the car deck. Even if you managed to get the audio routed to a BT headset you will still need the wired phones plugged in to get the radio program to actually work - Mike
Yep.. if I'm not wrong, the software BlueCast can transfer ALL sounds (incl ones from your TomTom and Radio) through A2DP. But in order for the Radio to work, physically plugging in something into the miniUSB port is a must.
Anyways, does the package come with a mini-USB to 2.5mm jack? or is it 3.5mm? I'm currently using a 2.5mm cable with mic.. and was hoping to use back the same if I were to get this Artemis..
Thanks
FYI, the 3.5 to USB adapter does not work to allow FM radio with your own headphones. It pops an error that you need the headphones plugged in to use the radio. Until a hack is found, you must plug in the supplied headphones.
db
erm do you actually need the headphones to be plugged in, in order to get the RDS/TMC info traffic for GPS softs like Destinator6?
Don't think it does RDS/TMC
is there any register hack that will start de fm-radio program ??
Hi fellas.. Just realised from one of the reviews that the mini-USB connector is shaped differently than the standard symmetrical one. Are they compatible?
Thanks
I confirm ... They are compatible !!!

Hi there!
Anybody knows if the FM-radio has RDS support??
PK
RDS yes but only for the radio station name, nothing else is used - you get the station name when it is transmitted and your headphone leads can pick-up the data - Mike
Hi!
OK, does this mean that AF (alternative frequency) is not supported?

Does this require any special trick ? In my case I can't see any station names ? (I can see them on normal radio). I am using the standard headphone attached.
Hi, I really need some help to solve theese:
After connecting Jabra bt620s (bluetooth stereo headset) to Artemis there are only two profiles under this device: Handsfree and Wireless stereo (i guess the last means A2DP). I can place and receive calls and listen to music in stereo, even turn volume up and down.
1. But other buttons on headset don't work No play/pause, prev/next and rewinding. So what do I need to make them work? Are there any bt stack patches for Artemis like for Prophet, or maybe some special software? AFAIK there has to be special bt profile support to make the trick.
2. How to redirect all sounds to bt headset in stereo? I REALLY want to listen to fm-radio through Jabra 620. But even when bt headset is connected to Artemis radio goes to either connected wired headset or built in speaker Is there any solution?
Thanks in advance!

Re:
1. In order for the controls to work, the device should support the AVRCP bluetooth profile. Not sure though whether the Artemis supports that profile, and in any case this would not mean there would not be other issues.
2. Do you mean that the no sound is received by the Jabra, or that it is being received in mono? If the latter there is a registry change to a 'JointStereo' setting that should do the trick.

1. I guess that AVRCP bt profile is NOT supported on Artemis by default. The question is what can be done to somehow add this profile to Artemis. Applying some patches or something...
2. I mean that no sound is received by the Jabra. Sound goes to either wired headset or built in speaker.
AVRCP IS supported by the Artemis.
You need to make sure the player that you use supports as well. I have tried WMP and PocketMusic, and they both support it. Works great with my Jabra320s.
All my sounds are transfered automatically to my BT headset.. system sounds and my GPS program (MapKing) sounds.
Radio CAN NOT be run unless you have a wired headset inserted, as it acts as an antennae. Even so, I doubt sound will come to your BT headset. It just acts that way.

Indeed it is. It was Mort player's problem. Last release version doesn't support control buttons, but final available beta does!

Is is not ALL sounds, because radio sounds are not going in!

Sure thing I do plug the wired headset in. But sound goes to either built in speaker, or wired headset.

I REALLY hope that there IS the way at least to redirect radio output to bt headset instead of built in speaker. Maybe registry tweak or some special software.
So research on this topic continues!

Mask...I'm using same Jabra 320s as you. I am having a problem however. the music is skipping kind of like a scratched cd. Also the music intermintently speeds up and slows downs. Do you have this problem? Any ideas how to solve this?

Well, I gave it a try, but didn't download Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 yet. On fist try it doesn't do the trick Maybe because of lack of that MS thing. I'll get and try it later.
Thanks for helping anyways!

Whoa.. the speeding up and slowing down is little.. but noticeable. I didn't know anyone else would notice it.. hehe
Yes.. I do have that.. it happens especially after the pause.
I set my BitPool value to "45".. which has very little noise, but hardly skips. The thing is, I feel that if I make sudden moves or go further than 2 metres without a straight line of sight, the music will get cut off
Higher bitPool value will increase quality, and pauses.
How about you? What is your bitPool value?
Set to 45 aswell also do notice a high freqency wail in the background.

Yes it does.. but I'm outdoors and commuting most of the time when using the headset, and thus that level doesnt bother me much. It's a balance I would say.. But could be better..
If you do find a good tweak to increase the bitPool without skipping, do lemme know

I was looking for a way to do this, and this worked first time - thanks
I'm just using a mono headset - but it's fine
I'm using an Bt Midland in my helmet and i can hear music, navigator and also speacking and calling perfectly but i have not found the method to use the Radio trasmitter.
I've the adapter miniusb jack, and i've tried with some different software like Blue Music, Bta Router and a2dptoggle but nothing happens.
same trials in tc forum with even keeping the wired headset connected still no dice
on getting fm to the bt headset could be a hardware limitation
thank Rudegar.... i'm still searching fora any solution.... but is strange cause i cah hear the BT emitting the classical sound of "BIP" everytime i tap any things in FM Radio
I think you should give a try to BTAudio Toggle. This does not requires installation. Just copy to mobile open BT and run BTAudioToggle.exe.
thanks freco.... i've tried, but the radio dosen't transmitt.
as long as I know, you have to plug in the regular headset to be able to enable FM transmitter, because the headset is used as antenna. and then I would go for btIO, you would find it somewhere here for sure
...just my 2 cents
ies...headset are connected to mobile. i can hear sound from the speaker of headset and of mobile but it dosen't go in BT
...well, tried it at home and have to say that it doesn't work either. everything else is hearable on bluetooth exept radio...think that this is a FM transmitter-program problem. it seems that it's only able to play it trough speakers or wired headphones

yes, i think so.
i've asked here cause in other italian forums nobody has solved the problem.
Im trying to get the radio on using a Blue tooth head set, but the phone asks for the wired headset. Has any1 a solution to get it on without using the headset?
There is a registry key 'Headset Connected' = 0 or 1 or something similar, sorry cannot remember what it is - I think its under the HTC keys in HKLM..
It didn't work for me when I tried it without the wired headphones connected and I don't I don't have a bluetooth headset to try it out with...
I don't think you'll get any reception anyway since the wired headset acts as the antenna but good luck all the same
WoW, thanks for a fast reply.
this is your registry key:
### AUDIO BOOST ENABLED ALSO WITHOUT HEADSET, KEEP IT! ###
### remember also to configure it in BoosterAudio program
HKLM\System\State\Hardware\Headset = 1
but without an headset plugged-in you wont find neither a station
bye,
davide
why would you want to access the radio without a headset plugged in? you have no antenna to recieve the signal anyway lol
Hello
I would like to use the radio as followed:
Connect a cable to the usb-connector (to have an antenna)
Listen at the music with a bluetooth headset (to have more freedom)
Is this possible ?
Could I use any usb-cable ?
Perhabs even an solar-or batterie driven charger?
That would be usefull in long bus-travelling, were I could store the diamond in the seat-pocket in front of me, and walk around with the headset on!
Thanks for suggestions
