It wont let you until you app unlock your phone. I am attaching the file you need to run to accomplish this. After you run it you will be able to edit it.
copy it to your phone and run it.

Tried that, does not work on WM6. Anyone else have an idea what I can do?

it worked on mine and I am running WM6. and just to make sure you are editing the IE_Short.lnk file not trying to rename it right?

And make sure that you reset the phone after runninig the patch.

I know someone who was trying to run something that required a command line argument (Right Menu) using the shortcut, and they couldn't get it to work. Anyone know of a workaround?

I can't get this to work either, have I missed something?

I put the cab on my MDA Compact and installed it.
Using File Explorer I can see a folder in Program Files and an Icon in the Programs window.
This has the four Icons, Hide, Lock, Unhide and Unlock!
My extended-rom folder is visable in File Explorer so I tokk it that I didn't have to 'Unhide' it.
So pressed the unlock icon and got a window with debug and ok in the title and Error: I click ok.
1.When I get back to my desktop I have another debug, etc window with following FL_IOCTL_BDTL_HW_PROTECTION. I click ok.
2.The next debug window says The Parameter is incorrect. I click ok again.
3. The next says extrom unlocked. I click ok.
I am taken back to '1' and go through 2 and 3 again. The windows go away.
I soft reset the MDA, by using the stylus underneath it.
I go back to file explorer and into the extended_rom folder and try deleting the TMO_Wallpaper and am told access is denied!
Not sure what else to try, but guess the unlock didn't work or I have missed something. Please be kind, if you reply.

Hi,
I am not sure if it works for you to,
I have had the same problem, FL_IOCTL_BDTL_HW_PROTECTION on my screen. Device didnt unlock either.
Tried to do it in any possible way,
even on the fora over here.
But the one wich i skipped, or didn't found was the correct one for me,
Personal i Think my Windows Screwed the files up, but thats F%CK*#G WINLOOS.
So i went to the ftp part of this site, and just downloaded the unlock tool again,
Just did an hardboot of the device, installed the fresh download i obtained.
First unhided it, than reset, followed by unlock, and guess what it said?!?
Rom was unlocked.
So not an single error in my case, hopes it will work for u to.
It is not always your mda who fails, your pc can do this much better.

How do I get to the FTP site, please?
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=BA_FTP_Site
Ok I think i have got to the ftp site, I say I think because when I clicked on the link it took me stright there, it didn't ask me for a username or password :?:
Anyway I searched all what I thought were the relevant folders and some that weren't and couldn't find the file
Can anyone help?
your device is called magician as codename
try looking in the sub dirs under there
I don't want to appear rude, but I have searched all the folders, etc!

Fiddling around with WM6 Beta's eT9.Excalibur.0409.kmap.txt

I discovered that by fiddling around with this file (found in the /windows folder, you can quickly change the keymappings in the beta version. For example, I've only done a quick test, but I remapped the '%" symbol on the Q to be a "!" when alt is pressed or a long press is done. This worked in both Outlook and Word on my test. No reboot was needed BTW.
So if you haven't yet, check it out. I'm surprised it's this easy. What's the catch?
Does this mean that WM6 *will* have T9 on it?
(Pls. excuse my stupidity, but I have an O2 Cosmo (pretty much an Excalibur) and it does hot have currently T9 or XT9 or anything. And I can not reprogram it to access accented characters (which I am dying for).
Thanxx, Mixx

This was the solution I have been looking for now for a long time.
Thanks a million for the tip gadgetshrink.
But this does not work for the standard, preinstalled WM5, does it?
Just out of interest, what is the format/syntax of that file?

It's a normal .txt file
Yes, but what I wanted is its syntax (what is in it and what does thet mean), in the hope that I discover similar files on the standard version.
There are actually some files in \windows that might contain key-codes. such as this file:
SymPad0407.txt
with content such as
...
00A7
00A8
00A9
00AA
00AB
00AC
....
which looks like key-codes to me. But I do not know, what to do with it.
Can someone help?

I am trying to edit this file but when I put it back on the phone it says I do not have enough permissions.
My phone is 100% unlocked.
I have disabled 'read only' and still can't do it.
I am using Vista if that is where the problem is.

That's because the file is in ROM. But if you use TotalCmd CE (www.ghisler.com) you can. At least I can on my HTC Universal which otherwise has the same problem.
Yes I had problem with Vista in modifying this file
I was able to change this file using XP

Reverting to Factory Settings. HELP!

I installed the WM6 Black, and my keyboard is not inputing the right chars...I tried the RegEdit fix but nothing. I am trying to revert to the factory Cingular settings and I am using RUU_Hermes_CINGULAR_WWE_2_1_.06.502.3_6275_1.33.31.00_108_Ship.exe. I keep on getting update error message. I have no idea what to do...Please help me. I am getting very frustrated with this thing. I looked at the Wiki and I see nothing regarding my question. Same thing for the forum.
Thank you in advance.
I had this with my T-Mobile ROM, the .exe file expands the files into a temp directory, the only one you need is the .NBH.
1. Copy this file to your storage card and rename it 'HERMIMG.nbh'.
2. Plug device into mains charger.
3. Push & Hold the side 'OK' and 'Power' buttons.
4. Reset the device.
5. Your now in bootloader.
6. Holding the 'Reset' button with the other two will make the device search for and run the HERMIMG.nbh file.
7. Make a coffe or something... (It takes about 25 minutes).

This is the quickest fix I have read about. Works with out a hitch for everyone who has done it.
Cool. I m happy I can finally do this. Although I would like to fix the keyboard instead...Anyways what solution do you guys know of that will fix the keyboard? Also where can I get that .nbh file?
Thanks a lot!!!
You can either use WinRAR to unpack it or if you run the .exe it will unpack to '\Documents and Settings\User\Local Settings\Temp'.
I would suggest going back to this ROM as a diagnostic tool to make sure the keyboard isn't faulty...Just make sure you upgrade to SPL 1.35 Olipro first as this makes your phone almost unbrickable in future! If you do brick it so either your stuck in bootloader mode or the OS won't start follow the above instructions...
Well, I know for sure that my keyboard was working perfectly fine before doing the WM6 rom. I have tried fooling around in the Registry...didn't make it worse, but didn't make it better either. What values do you guys have for the qwerty in the registry? Also is there a program that will let you program what key gets what symbol?
I know I am trying to decide between factory, or trying to fix this keyboard characters mix up...
Thanks again.
Not to over-simplify, but what phone are you using? If it's the 8525, there's a CAB file to remap the keys to right places... just search for 8525 keyboard fix.

Here is keyboard .cab file fix.
Thank you very much guys. I solved the issue. The fix I ended up using was; going to my local Cingular store and beaming a reg editor into the live 8525 they have there, and looking at the registry where the qwerty is located the hexadecimal value on it is 40409 (located @ local machine/software/oem/qwerty/). Please let others know about this fix for the Cingular 8525.
Also thanks a million to those who actually put a linky and not just say there is something somewhere...
Thanks again,
Cris

Problem: The caller can hear him/herself (echo)

Hi all,
today I flashed my P3300 with the Dopod Powermap Rom. Everything ok, but since the flash the person who is calling me, or who i'm calling hears him or herself twice, like some sort of echo. (I'm not using the speaker function). Anybody got any idea how I can resolve this problem.
I already tried lowering the speaker volume, but this did not help.
maybe you can go start-settings-system-microphone AGC-enable
i hope this help

I've put it on. I'll let you know what will be the result.
Well that did not help
Anybody some other ideas? cansomebody with a P3300 maybe export this section of his/her registry:
HKLM/Software/HTC
Maybe, if I replace my registery with the original HTC one, the echo will go away???
Hi Bart,
this is the section you requested. It is from a Dutch HTC P3300. I hope this works for you and solves your problems.
Let me know if you have problems with the file.
I have made some changes to the registry, i can't remember if the changes are done in this section or not. I know i've turned off the notification when you send and SMS and I've enabled the GPS-camera-thingy

Thnx a lot, I'm going to give it a try.
edit:
When I trie to import the HTC.reg I get an error: The specified file is not a registry script.
but thanks again for trying.
hmm, OK. I used Total Commander to export the HTC-entry.
If you open Total Commander and the start the HELP from the start-menu, you will enter the Help-section for TotalCommander. There is a section called: Plugins. Select that and go to Registry. There is explained how to import a .REG-file.
If you have done it like this or if you use a different program then I'm not able to help you any further.
I personally use Resco Explorer with the Registry editor, but i'll install Total commander also and try it again.
edit:
Even when I use Total commander I get the error: can not move or copy file.

hmmzz... strange. If I copy the .REG file to the registry like described in the HELP-section of TotalCommander-Plugins-Registry I get no error message.
I copied the file to the clipboard first in TotalCommander, then opened the Registry in TotalCommander and pasted the file there from the clipboard....
I know now what I did wrong. I went to the plugin map, and forgot to go to the registry map. Stupid me. Well let's hope the echo problem is solved now.
Yihaaa, what I suspected was right. The problem of the echo is indeed somewhere inside HKLM\Software\HTC.
The problem is now solved after inserting the original HTC P3300 HKLM\Software\HTC settings.
Thnx a lot!
i already read that your problem was solved on GoT. Great!
THNX
big thnx,my problem with echo was solved too, 3300 (wwe 6.1 by YuE)

Bluetooth Voice Command problems on new builds -- SOLVED (for REAL now!)

I was playing around with XCSdM's Bluetooth 0.9f fix and found the issue that's causing it to not work on newer (17913) builds on WM6.
When I navigate to the directory where BTVCFull or BTVCBasic is located, and try to manually launch either of those programs, I get this message:
The file 'BTVCFull' cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of its components cannot be found. If the problem persists, try reinstalling or restoring the file.

I checked my security on the phone, and it is set to 'Security Off'. Next, I checked the file signature. They seem to NOT be signed at all. However, here's my problem. I can't sign the files myself as I'm too cheap to spring for Visual Studio 2005, and signtool is a big pita. So, Does someone want to sign them and throw the files up here? I think that should fix the problem IMHO.
But, I have identified the core problem at least--which is a step in the right direction.
** FOR THE REAL FIX ** See post's below with the new .cab and reg edit.
if im not mistaken there is a signing program in the new rom kitchen that was released today. its in the extras folder haven't played with it so im not sure how easy or well it works but it looks easy enough. pretty damn cool new kitchen also should check it out!
dunno if they will help
No.. It doesn't.. It's gotta be the drivers.. I'm supposed to be getting some new drivers soon; so, we'll see that helps.
I just wish it'd work correctly without any hacks to fix it..
I noticed the same thing when trying to launch BTVCBasic or Full. Changing the following key worked for me:
HKLM\SOFTWARE\OEM\VoiceCommand\Path="\Program Files\Bluetooth Voice Command\BTVoiceCommand.exe"
