Hey guys,
Better start a new thread where people can write off their tension while they're waiting for MrHappy to return from the depths of Tech-Ed to bring us the gift of WM 5.0... I think there are a lot of people watching his thread, and everytime someone posts something like "man I can't wait to see this!", all the others go "wow, new message, MrHappy's back!!!".
So... if anyone has anything else to say while we're rooting for MrHappy to take his ROM dump... go ahaid. Let's hope he gets back quickly so there won't be a lot of answers.
MrHappy, upon your victorious return, please post in your original thread...
Hey man, let's all pray for this guy, it's not easy taking a dump in the middle of a convention with everybody watching... even a ROM dump!
MrHappy
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
In the hacking forum you will find the grab_it tool, was also posted further up this thread.
Once you have renamed the file on the sd card you can no longer put it into your own device as it will dump that rom with the same file name (thus ontop of the ver 5.0)
Please write protect the sd card and use a PC to upload.
Go to the stand during a lecture when it will be quiet!
Quick question, once he has this "dump" how is it converted into something that can be loaded onto our devices?
IMO, this thread is a good thread to vent until MrHappy comes back with the goods. Then the XDA Dev Gods can start a new thread dedicating it to the new gift.
MrHappy!!
****. That's a really good point MDAIIIUser. That's a big problem with the automatic one. Hopefully he's read your posts and knows this, or never got the grab_it.exe altogether. It would be SO terrible for him to have the rom in his posession and then overwrite it.
I cant wait I cant wait.
I know this is a useless post but there's nowhere else to rant except infront of my brother who's can't understand what the fuss is all about.
MrHappy please do it pweezzz hehe
So am I, and I don't even have a BA yet....!
Oh well that's too much. Anyway the lucky Blue Angel is out of reach now. I hope the guys find it or someone who has it will be generous enough to give us.

The answer for this question have the same as for this other one "How do i know wath car is the best for me?"
Really you must read (lot of read) and then, if you are sure wath you are doing and wath you are looking for, take a test on every ROM....
Of course, Wiki http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Hermes must be your starting point.
Regards.

jcespi2005 is right - you need to do a lot of reading. This will give you a feel for how stable a rom is and how muck tinkering you need to do to get what you want.
I'd recommend Black 2.0 - it's great and stable. Also the LSVW roms are great, but there were some reports on a White Screen problem for some people. I haven't tried Dutty's rom yet, and I'm eagerly waiting for Kyphurs WMXL0.3 which I also think will be very good.
I'd also recommend flashing Olipros HardSPL 1.40 before you begin because it will help you if you have any problems later.
I will reiterate what ach2 has said.
Read... a lot. Wiki, forums, etc.
Also, I would recommend Black, although others have their favorites.
WTF is with that title. did u read the rles on posting? did u search at all? did u read anything that has been posted? have u followed any thread at all?
this has been asked, answered, discussed, compered, contrasted and debated.
pick a phone, pick a rom. dont like the rom change it.
make up ur own... mind if u have one.
most importantly RTFW do the research. do ur home work. put some effort in.
change the heading on the forum.
Simon,
Wind your neck in mate - your post just makes you sound like you're some jumped up moron with an attitude problem.
There are much nicer ways to tell people that they've asked a stupid question and this is something that has been discussed on this particular forum...at length. Your post adds nothing to the thread apart from unnecessary vitriol and repeats what several other people posted before you - except that they were much nicer about it (and used things like capital letters and punctuation
Either drop the attitude and try and be a little more helpful or ignore posts like this and STFU.
Thanks.

Cheers! Reason!
Anyway. It is a matter of trying them out and seeing what you like. Personally I started with WMXL 0.20 and am still on it. So I haven't found out what the other are like. I'll try Black 2.0, or 2.5 if its out by then , when WMXL 0.30 comes out. And if some required functionality isnt there, i'll go on to WMXL 0.30.
Basically. Read until your eyes just about fall out on HOW to upgrade. Then just pick whatever rom seems like a good idea at the time. The more important bit is making sure you do it right, then you can flash to a different one later (plenty of good info in the forums and on the wiki).

With too much to say about anything and everything
the famous mr poleman posted this in 2003 and has represented the guiding light and rule on posting rules since that date.
Perhaps maybe somebody could make reference to it WHEN CREATING POSTING TITLES at least.
i express my deepest and most sincerest apologies to all those that i may have offended... i am simply just a little frustrated seeing these posts with nothing but useless headings like pls help or error and like.
so... if the be all and end all of postings could be followed since 2003 and applied to all since that date maybe i would be more helpful and less frusrated.... so for those that didnt know or didnt read perhaps a revisit

lordsmiff i bow to your righteousness and will do as u ask when people start following the guidelines and rules that have applied since long b4 u or i ever got here but seemed to be disregarded.
btw i was nice just wait ill i am really upset. at the moment i have been on this forum for 2hrs after working 14hrs and i see topic headings like this. pls forgive me my grumpiness and intolerance. i am usually more helpful and just lost my patience.
We're all grumpy sometimes dude, me included - and I got told the same thing not too long ago ;-)
So not exactly righteous, more of spread-the-love thang ;-)
Join the light side - take the path of righteousness - spread the love!

Oh, and to be a little more on topic, I've tried them all with no particular favourite, though I do like the LVSW one with the green skinned comm manager
I just flashed Black 2.0 Cingular to my 8525 and it seems my the ?mark on my keyboard produces a dash.
Didnt see anything about it on the board or in the wiki, anyone else have this or know how to fix it...
BTW thanks for Black 2.0
Dave
This cab has been posted all over, there is a known issue with the 8525 keyboard with the newer ROM's, I have included the cab for you.
Keep this cab handy in case you flash in the future and need again.
Hope this helps.
I'm just gonna duck for you.
http://rapidshare.com/files/21995373/8525_Keyboard_Fix_WMXL.CAB
These cabs or the registry fix are posted everywhere on this forum and I am still amaze on how many people failed to look for them.
Edit: Between the time I posted originally to now I did a search for "8525 keyboard" then read the first couple of threads, got interrupted a few times, and came up with this http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=XDA_Live_Extras
Now I understand how the flaming begins....
I agree, kinda funny, seems to be the same requests all the time. I guess I am kinda lucky, I have some extra time throughout my day to read. That and I don't want to damage my investment.

I know you have just joined and you are new to all this, but hey............come on, just look through threads, search and read a bit, you could have got ripped to shreds but tonight I am in a good mood!
EDIT: Can a mod lock this thread to save a poor souls life!
Hey, you folks don't know where a guy can grab some magic fairy dust which will make my 8525's keyboard magically delicious, do you?
Sorry, couldn't resist.
Seriously, though. I have, from time to time, been put out by the old-timers here going off on the newbies for asking questions the answers to which can be, relatively, easily found. However, this damn keyboard cab issue keeps popping up on a daily basis and I refuse to believe any one of these guys ever search for the info.
Mind you, I'm not completely guilt-free. I MAY HAVE popped in a question or two in an active forum when everyone was patting each other on the nuts and happy with a new ROM release. But, I did look, damnit. And, by the way, old-timers, none of you have answered my question about how to make the thumbnail pic bigger on the dialer. NONE of ya! Yet, you all jump to answer that damn keyboard cab question!

Thanks guys and sorry for asking for already known issue.
I am new to this board but not to forums so I feel you on the dumb questions.
I have been lurking for about two weeks - guess I missed the keyboard issue.
Thanks again for the help and for Black. Don't let A##hats like me keep you from releasing new ROMs.

Hi, there is not an answer to that one as far as I know, I can't see how a reg edit would work as I think the dialer is made all in one and then loaded into the rom (don't quote me!).
The only thing I can suggest is a magnifying glass!
Seriously though PM swampy he might be able to help.
I made this little walk through so that maybe we can get rid of some of the common questions that get asked way too much. This guide will walk you through the process of app unlocking your phone, upgrading the rom, setting up the keyboard and setting up your connections. Beyond that, you are on your own. Please let me know if you have any issues.
Click below for the pdf:
Windows Mobile 6.1 - The Step By Step Guide
Fine Print: This guide was written using Rickwyatt's v.24 ROM. For Kavana's install, just click on the ROM file and follow from there.
I know this method to work. I took all the screen shots as I was flashing my phone. I never once got any errors.
as usual...any questions, PM Mikey.
(mods: 1.8mb is too large to attach???)
good work gixxy! i will sticky this..... i will also see if we can put this on the FTP here.
Great job gixxum this will be a great guide for the noobs.
Very clean procedures.
I used these to set up my phone and it was very nice.
Thank you.
this is what i've been looking for, a walkthrough. Thanks a bunch. You're the man!
Great work! keep it up brahh
Pretty nice guide Gixxum... I wish this was around when I did mine! (I went through 2,000 something pages before I decide I was dangerous enough to flash my phone)... This will come in handy when I eventually flash my phone to version 24 of ricky's rom. Keep up the good work!
i made the guide because this process is so easy...but if you are new to it, and do anything out of order, you end back here asking the same questions and getting flat out frustrated.. im hoping that this takes away that issue.
i figured by actually flashing my phone and documenting the whole process, that this is the most accurate way to do it. anyways...good luck guys/gals
Great Job Gixxum!
Great Job - I knew you had a soft side and not all tough as you come across at times!! I believe I have finally gotten my phone working! Now, I hope I get my nerve to add and change some settings. AND yes - I am going to read all the postings before I ask...
Out of curiosity - when my phone boots up and shuts down it has HTC and no mention of S620. Not a big deal, I don't care what it says as long as it works but I saw somewhere on a post that theirs says HTC S620. Just wondering...
I am not subscribed to any internet plan, just rely on wi-fi so I will try to make this work and be happy as a fiddle as us Southerners say!!!!!!!! plus can't say what I'd like to say here.........

you will select whatever carrier you use..in your case you would select att/cingular (whatever they are now).
nothing really needs tweeking...meaning everything should work.
yes you can reflash with an OEM rom and you can find those files in one of the sticky's on this forum
Great Job! Keep up the good work.
I'm going to try and see if i can get the guide to show up here rather than going to a link.
P.S: I have edited the title.

yea i tried all i could and i couldnt get it to post in a good format. plus, the site wont let me link to more than 4 pics per post. i would have left it as a web page on my site, but i dont know how much traffic would be generated. so my last resort was to just make a pdf and host it on my box and hope for not too much traffic. so far so good.
you guys can take this and do what you want with it. just made it to offset my ability to be the biggest prick ever.. i figured i owed the community something. =P

lol you definitely owed the community after being a prick but turns out your actually a nice guy....
good job, though - i remember when i wrote the guide to upgrade from 5 to 6 and most people found that really helpful. see, when you have a guide, it just makes life so much easier than going around hunting for information.
having everything in one place makes it easier not only for noobs but experts too.
I'm working on getting everything on here. Hopefully, everything should work out.
Once again, Great Job ! Thanks for supporting this community.
P.S: by tommorow, I will be deleting posts in this thread including mine that does not have anything to do with the post.
No more thank you posts, only questions. Do you agree? Yes, I would love for everyone to say thanks to you but this way, we can keep it clean. I hope you know where I'm coming from. When I wrote the guide, even though - yes people did ask questions, which was fine but it just kept growing because most users would simply say thanks.
Oh yea, can you do me a favor? If you have all the images in one place..can you send me a folder...maybe a rapidshare link or something because I'm having a hard time getting the images off your pdf file, not really hard - just taking too long.

i agree. if you have a question or comment either pm me here or email me at [email protected] directly. you can also find me on AIM (gixxum) for quick questions and what not.
and yes sir i have all the files handy. you can find the .zip here

Xda developers community,
Here I sit at the end of approximately 78 hours of a joyfully sleep deprived journey of pure tech excitement. It all started with my two month old G1 Dream, which I am crazy about, suddenly began to annoy me with its ridiculously small internal memory. I offered my dilemma to the overlord of infinite knowledge, Google, and all roads kept leading me here. I began to read, found answers, and developed the uncontrollable urge to join the action. I've read, rooted, rommed, wiped, re-rooted, re-rommed, nearly bricked, cried, picked myself up, read some more, fixed, and utterly tweaked my G1 into a steroid laced technological work of art. Twice I wanted to ask questions but fought my hands away from the keyboard as I read the seemingly harsh and usually condescending replies as my fellow noobs received. Quick and deadly were the Chinese stars of sarcasm as they split their heads open, ending each post with "you would have found this if you'd just taken the time to read the forum". Each one of them ending in that little blue "Link of Shame" they provide linking you right to the detailed answer that was posted like two weeks ago. Not me....no sir! I decided to read and discover the what lies within for myself. I'm so glad I did too because I've learned more about my G1 here in three days than all my accumulated phone knowledge combined. This place is a tech-rebels think tank of knowledge from some really knowledgeable people. Everything I studied and tried was 100% accurate and easy to follow. Thanks to all of you for sharing your discoveries with all of us "Noobs" out here. I'm hooked on XDA! Sleep.....we don't need sleep where we're going....STANDBY FOR REBOOT!!
Welcome to forums
Great and nice words of introduction

Nice post and welcome to the forums!
We were all "noobs" once mate, at least you did the right thing and read up.
Far too many "users" here just want answers, finding them for yourself is far more satisfying.
So now you've read up on the Billions of pages and dug your way through the hundreds of forums, when will you be releasing your first Rom?
LoL
Welcome to the forums mate, may you be stuck here forever like the rest us!
Cheers,
Beasty
Welcome to your Home!!!
That's similar to what I experienced sometimes. But if you read and read and then you ask about something that "is there" and you did not find, I think nobody will throw you to the lions.
Now, enjoy... and help make this site greater !
I'm a carrier for the XDA virus....
I raced to the office today to ignore the growing pile of work on my desk, darted past my idiot boss mumbling something about deadlines or some crap, and sat down to start the day off with a triple espresso and a theme flash straight from the XDA threads. As I waited for my phone to reboot I started feeling the sharp pinch of conviction. All day long people, myself included, run to the elite developers of XDA for endless advice on flashing, features, firmware, roots, roms, and recovery screens and freely download to their hearts content. Then strut around showing everyone there phones as if they were some sort of underworld hackers. But does anyone stop to think about all the endless hours or trial and error, defeat, lines of code, complaints, and everything else that goes into these works of art? Each day I learn a little something more and gain a deeper insight on the hard work that so many put in so that I can carry around my super fast , fully loaded, and ready to tether G1 each day. Allthough I really dont think these folks do what they do for fame or fortune, I still feel like I need to give credit where obvious credit is due. Thanks for the hard work, warm welcomes, and dead on advice I recieve each day here. And the flavor of the day today is an RC29 build, Cyanogen pimped out recovery and his latest update, very nice "Black Ice" theme, and a phone I cant seem to put down. Oh crap...here comes that jack a** boss of mine and my boot loader is stuck in a loop. I gotta start establishing better priorities.......like getting up and closing my office door so I can wipe and reflash this bad boy!!
Hihi.. nice writing.
Welcome on board.
