What gets included when you back up? - P3300, MDA Compact III General

Hi,
I'm just about to purchase SPB or Sprite back-up, before I do I would like to confirm that all my POP/SMTP settings will also be saved when I back up?
Cheers

With Sprite Backup I'm sure - yes (WiFi, BT too).

Save SMS to storage card

This may sound stupid... its me saying it
with all this rom upgradin I always seem to loose my SMS messages - even when I do back them up.
on symbian phones there is an option to save sms to Storage card by default.
Ive searched the forums and the rest of the net for a Windows mobile solution but cannot find anything... anyone aware of a reg key that can be tweaked or anything?
alternatively, which backup software works properly in 6.1???
How on earth did you lose your sms (or anything) after backing up?
I still have my sms backup from 2004. Give "PIM Backup" a try.
Pim Backup doesnt seem to work correctly on 6.1 roms... maybe it was just the version I have been using... still think it would be a funky feature tho...
PIM Backup is hit or miss with me using wm6.1..Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't so I normally just delete them and restore again until it works right..

Ah, I misread your post, didn't see the wm6.1 part, sry. Have you try other options like sms organizer or jeyo?
I've tried Sprite backup and also PIM backup... I'll figure one out... but think SMS direct to SD would be an amazing feature...
Yeah I also had problems with PIM backup. I often ran out of memory before it could finish restoring. When it finally worked, it took over 4 hours to restore just my inbox.
I'm trying http://www.zedsoft.net/index.php?php=fullview.php&id=1 now
Jeyo SMS Backup 1.1 works on all WM6.1 I tried.
Jeyo mobile, works every time - get it!!!!
Do the ones u guys are suggesting they put the txt back in threaded correctly and everything? and if so got a direct link?

basic questions

after owning the phone for a month and having just had it replaced due to screen/battery issues
thought before i do anything to it i would find out
what is the easy way to back up the full device before altering files for hacks etc (didnt do this first time around)
and how do i stop my contact pics coming up in the albu, photos
thanks for any help
for the backing up thing. You can only backup files and data. So no settings. (maybe with exensive programs) So when something goes wrong you do a hard reset, and restore the data and files. You should backup programs on your PC.
Search the ofrum for: PPCPimBackup. This is freeware backupsoftware that works very well. It backsup you email, sms, agenda, notes and contact. (The files on you SD card won't get lost by a hard reset).
Can't awnser you question ATM about hte contact pics. Don't have the phone, still waiting for the replacement.
I personally use Sprite Backup, which worked very well for me in the past. They have some special for HTC owners right now, so you might want to look into that (http://www.spritesoftware.com/products/sprite-backup-htc-special). I suggest, you try both (PPCPimBackup and SpriteBackup) and see what works best for you.

Why do you want to do that before any tweaks?
In that case just give it a hard reset and it will be back to the first time you booted it.
Take care with backup/restore on different devices.
If the ROM versions aren't the same, you can get strange behaviour with your device.
And even if they are the same, some programs didn't restore well on another (same) device.
SPB backup worked well
But I can't say which is the best, maybe sprite has some other advantages

Just sync it up with the pc that you used for your previous Tilt and in the async setup screen, make sure that it has the contacts box checked(default on mine), and the contacts should transfer over just fine.....at least it did on mine!
Later..............
If syncing with PC does not work for you then try MyPhone by Microsoft.
Dotfred's PIMBackup worked perfectly for me.
The one caveat is that it's a bit tricky when trying to restore threaded SMS - there's a HOWTO on that somewhere on these forums.

Thanks I actually got PPCPimBackup to work great, and i tryed the myPhone it work as well. But i'm going to use the PPCPimBackup from now on.
You can also use SPB Back Up 2... Select advanced and restore only the PIM data...i.e. uncheck system box.
SPB Backup2 can be downloaded as a trial for 5 uses full functionality.
Good luck

[Q] Backing up all phone number, messages etc when chaning ROM

Hi.
Lately I've been changing between the new versions of the Oxygen ROM, and it's a real pain in the ass saving all my phone numbers over and over again, and losing all my text messages.
Is there any easy way of backing up this?
you open your phone book, hit the menu button, import/export, export to sd card. At least it works like this with HTC Sense, don't know if they changed the phone book...
Don't know how to back up texts though...
try an app called mybackup, it backs up not only apps+data, it saves contacts, messages, calender tags, bookmarks, call logs and many more
Titanium backup, mybackup pro, sms backup does the work. I prefer Titanium.
There has got to be an easier way of taking backup than Titanium?
My Backup Pro has got a much simpler interface than Titanium backup. But I prefer Titanium because it is way powerful and has many options like Freezing the application, Sync to Dropbox etc.
FAQ section in Titanium Backup gives you a nice overview of the available options. So it only takes few minutes to understand the features that are required for common backups.
I use titanium for apps as, like others have said, it's more flexible and allows you to choose what you backup/restore/delete etc.
I also use mybackup pro as it's very quick and simple to back up dictionaries, sms, call logs etc (not contacts, as all of mine are google anywaay).

HTC Backup vs Titanium

Just wondering if anyone has shifted from using Titanium backup to HTC Backup.
I noticed in one of the post that Leedroid uses HTC Backup, a few threads show that it does the job.
I've been using Titanium backup for a long long time, it does a decent job but misses a few settings here and there, every now and then you get an issue where a restore process will lock a process up.
On the M9, and this might just be me missing something in my backup, but I dont tend to get my Alarms and themes, few other bits and pieces.
I want to be able to backup apps + data, plus userconfig preferences, Wifi, bluetooth, alarms etc...
So how do people find HTC Backup for those kinds of tasks?
I use htc backup for everything except the apps I have side loaded manually as htc backup won't always restore those. I then let htc backup restore everything and go into titanium and restore the missing apps and any additional app data that I care about.
Titanium I know preserves apps in their present state. I've never needed anything else for that, Google does my contacts, I don't care for messages and WhatsApp backs itself up.
Media on my SD card.
Haven't used HTC back up, but have heard that it does serve as expected, but if you're rooted and don't use titanium then I think you're missing a trick.
