Battery Meter - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam ROM Development

What are folks using in WM6 for a battery meter on the today screen? Seems like Batti went out of favor due to some potential memory leak issues, and I am looking for a replacement (small) app to quickly let me know how I am doing on battery life.
Anyone have a today screen plugin they like?

I use the O2plus battery meter - I did like Batti though (but had the memory issues)

bat?

LVMTopBat, a very small and reliable application showing bat status as a smaqll line on upper head of display.

I use LVM top battery as well. No options, but, hey,... How many options do you need for a simple meter? Think small app.!

I use SPB pocket plus for the battery meter, as well as other meters, and easy shortcuts right from my today screen.

whats good about this is you can see the drain on your batt. turn on your brightness and you see your Amper rising.
it`s light and you can see:
1. CPU load.
2. Batt bar.
3. batt. temp(important to know before she explodes
4. Current drain on the device

Wheee

Its nice, not that simple though.

anyone figure out how to make the battery meter not go by 10% increments...?

I was searching for an answer to this exact issue, when I found your post. I have the same issue with version 1.04.203 beta4, build 0218.

FWIW, WisBar Lite also has a battery meter similar to batti. It's pretty configurable (colors, segments). I've used it, but right now I use the one in SPB PocketPlus. Neither of these is free (WBLite is $4.95, though, so it's almost free), but each comes with some other nice usability features that, IMO, are worth the price.

CPU overclock

does exists a software specially for overclocking my P3300 CPU? I tried xscalar, or something like that, but it takes my device only on 196 mhz, starting from 133mhz (or this 133 is over my 200 mhz by default?)

Download BatterStatus Extended V. 1.04 Beta nightly build here. Every owner of P3300 has this installed. For more info... search this thread.
i've downloaded, and installed it. but my drain battery is very very very faster, in 5 minutes, drained 9%.
so what can i do?

Everytime I feel my Artemis needs an Overclocking - I give it a ROM straight up its slithery USB Hole !!!!
hee hee hee !
Look, just configure your ARTEMIS BatteryStatus,CpuScalar for 120, 201, 247 with this configuration your battery last for ever because when it doesnt need speed goes to the lowest speed, only if you are running aplication the overclock take action.
Hope it helps,

Thats cool, thanks!
If you can avoid it, don't overclock!
As stated earlier in this thread...
I've found that overclocking, even with scaling, seriously affects battery performance.
I was until today running Vanilla 2.0, which was ok until I added batterystatus, with either fixed or scale doverclocking - both of which drained the battery like crazy.
If battery status is an isuse, use a lean, clean rom and don't load up loads of stuff you don't need - then the device will perform faster... I've just switched back to the Dopod WM6 release, and unclocked it runs everyhting I need absolutely fine.
To me, overclocking is like the salad bar in Pizza Hut.... I ain't going near it!

lol, thats good! Fair point, I'll keep an eye on the battery life.
Perhaps changing the max speed to the standard speed, but keep the low idle speed set will improve power consumption?

I think you're probably better off just not installing stuff you don't need, and where posisble install to your SD card, keeping RAM as free as possible - that will give you a cleaner machine and reduce the need to be tempted to consider trying to overclock... make sure that you have low standby and backlight off settings when on battery use, and keep your device on charge overnight so you always have a devcent level of charge in the morning. If you need to, buy a desktop charger from ebay for a few quid, and stick your phone on it when you get home...

Thanks for the advice. The CPU clocking is being done with Battery Status, which is part of the ROM, so If power consumption continues to be a problem I'll disable the over-clocking function from the Battery Status Options.
As for charging I'm fine, I have an in-car charger and a 40 minute commute every morning/evening
Thanks again,
John
i've got a question about batterystatus, maybe some1 in this post knows the answer:
is there a way that batterystatus keeps the overclock setting while suspended? i would love to UNDERclock my cpu to 123mhz when suspended, so safe extra battery, but seems that everytime i suspend, BS sets it back to 201.
i tried the options, but i can't figure out if it's possible to over/under clock while suspended.
Have you tried the CPUScaler option? It's build in to version 1.04
For the original FAQ etc goto the BatteryStatus website. Or read more in this thread.
i haven't try it. i have artemis 2.2

Well, although I can't uninstall the battery bar I have disabled the over clocking! I sat yesterday and could almost watch the power drain in real time, even with the Max speed set to 201Mhz. I switched the function off and the battery is lasting a lot longer again.
Moral: Don't over-clock at all!

I've tried ALL the cooked ROMS here - I have a 'spare' device for testing...
I use my device for work emails, sat nav, personal mails, web browsing, music, and as my phone. I pair it up with a Sony Blootooth car stereo.
So... aside from a few games, what else do you need to do with your phone? I'd suggets that most of the stuff loaded onto some of the ROMS is completely superfluous and just clogs up the device - things like the touch cube are really tarty overheads. Over the past year, I have played with most stuff that's out there, free and paid, and have a pretty default set of standard stuff that I load onto a clean RM. I was using Vanilla 2.0, but that still ate battery, so when I read that the Dopod shipped WM6 ROm was fast and bare, I thought I'd give it a go, and I haven't looked back...
Here's what I have on it, all running from the Stoarage Card where possible:
CloseAll
Hibernate
Hbutton
TodayAgenda (enhanced Calendar on Today)
Sunnysoft Contacts (one fingered dialling in the car)
TotalCommander
TomTom 6
Coreplayer (gives far better bluetooth audio streaming, and plays videos)
iphone keypad (default one buttons too small in the car)
SamsungTime (big clock on Today, but doesn't have the weight of HTC)
With all of this, I get brilliant battery life and a more than adequate response time without any overclocking, and over 20mb useable ROM.
TangerineTractor,
Why have you choosen the Dopod WM6 rom?
After having that rom I switched to the official Europe WM6 rom. No big differences, but with Ms Office 2007 on board, now the Word and Excel files are fully compatible with my desktop PC. The only disadvantage was that I had to install AudioManager separatelly. (But, in fact, I rather use CorePlayer.) It's a stable and reasonable fast rom. Storage Memory is low but each prog is in Storage Card if applicable. And there is very low RAM leaking (after a day of usage it's still above 20 M -- and Spb Mobile Shell runs constantly!).
Have you tried the Europe ver.?

SanDisk 8Gb Class4
Tried to alter some settings, but so far only getting lower score on benchmark. Will continue to try though....
No video results.
When I tried to do the same as in the demovideo, I got lower benchmark ??
Count me in!
got the same results as the above (test done immediately after a soft reset).
played around with settings and benchmarked again. no matter what i did the results were worse than the original ones.
tried to restore the default ones with no success and had to restore from backup in order to have the best results i obtain with my original settings.
the only good thing:
-benchmark
addons:
-strip battery (very similar with the one found in the forum).
-"real close" button is overlaping the existing one.
-hack battery (make the battery last longer), not tested.
my conclusion: to uninstall it....fast..
Same Experience here.
I managed to get just slightly better benchmark.
The other tools I already had.
No point installing this.
I'm getting rid of it also.

sony xperia benchmark with SB 2.0.020.
cab here.
Guys, I think you're not using it correctly.
The benchmark measures the Hardware performance, but according to their website, you can't get more power out of nothing, the tool is to give more power to the apps you need, and take it from those you're not using that much.
Ex: when using GPS you don't care about other apps, you want the GPS to load faster.
Read more here.
For me it proves to be a useful tool, I'll test it more the next days.
Did it help?

Yepp, he (or she)'s right! And it does make a difference!
To find out for yourself, download the app and run it (it will run in demo mode, which is sufficient to see the difference in the following test). Open the processes screen, find the gwes.exe process and tap the minus button on the left until it has the lowest possible priority. Hit ok and open the windows 6.5 start menu: You will notice how scrolling through the menu is now REALLY slow and laggy! Go back into Speedbooster, enter the processes screen and now give gwes.exe the highest possible priority. Tap ok and again open the start menu: Now everything is really smooth!
So it can make a big difference! The big question is though: Which processes should have a high, which ones a low priority? Although that is simple to answer if you want to increase performance in CorePlayer or some other specific app, it's not easy to answer if you want to increase your overall performance...
EDIT: I'm going to benchmark Coreplayer with Speedbooster active and inactive to find out, how big the difference is... I'll post the results here later!
Here are the results:
I used this file (Matrix trailer): http://shintak.info/ppc/download/betaplayer/sample/RL_XQ_640x480_1500_128.avi
Results with Speedbooster inactive: 89,84 %
Results with Speedbooster active: 92,23 %
So there was a slight increase... but it's not much!
of course it does its job. its not an overclock application, but since windows mobile does not include a priority adjust application, this is so useful. for example, adjust manila.exe to high priority and open some background job. manila freezes without this app, but its so smooth with it (of course, while the background job done slower). but this is useful for web browsing and navigation applications, since they really suck sometimes (they get slow much even if u get a simple sms).
ps: i dont know how it affects battery but, it made my blackstone just like iphone with a proper config.

Yeah It's Kind Of Ridiculous That You Have To Use A Third Party App Just To Uninstall It!!!
It may work for others but OCT
only managed to eat up my battery life without increasing my performance noticeably.
Startup contol panel will suffice in most cases to remove any orphaned shortcuts that cause errors during initialization of the OS. Also, I notice a huge increase in performance with OCT @768mhz and if you toggle it or run @729mhz any issues are eliminated (other than decreased battery life which for my purposes is irrelevant)

when you just flashed the battery will definitely be shorter. Let it recharge for a few cycles before determining whether its good or bad battery life. Keep in mind however that even at full potential, the battery will not last for more than 2 days even at light usage.
if battery life is more important to you compared to "the newest OS" and whatever extra features it brings with it, then I highly recommend installing acro's CM9 RC2 (yes it is ICS) as the 2.x.x kernel is far better at battery life than 3.x.x (i'm currently testing it and I can already feel the difference! I believe I can reach 2.5 days at modest usage but I will have to update you on that after my first few discharge cycle for battery to reach potential after flashing new rom). I do, however notice a few annoyances with RC2 (not sure if its really the ROM, or the custom kernel i'm using, or Nova Launcher is to be blamed), so if it continues to bug me I may just switch back out to latest ICS =p.
If keeping with the latest JB is important for u, best thing you could do is download a custom kernel for it that supports UV(undervolting), then get IncrediControl and tune down your UV based on some voltage tables you can find in FAQ. This alone won't bring you a HUGE improvement in battery life but its definitely an observable difference. On top of UV, try to UC(underclock) your CPU to 1GHz. Most daily functions, apps and games (depending on how intensive it is) will work perfectly smooth even at 1GHz. IMO, the most important point of UCing is you will notice a very significant difference in the heat of your battery (ie backcover of your phone). Heat is generally bad for the battery (shorter life + faster draining) so UC is definitely a good thing to do =). Of course, on top of all those, get greenify and wakelock detector(WLD) from market to control your not-so-frequently-used apps. Use WLD to track down what is keeping your phone awake (hence drain more battery) and use greenify to hibernate all the not-so-frequently-used apps you have (example of things you DON'T want to greenify: whatsapp and gmail as you don't want to kill these 2 programs when you lock your screen. You want to continue receiving whatsapp messages and gmail when you locked your screen right? XD! Examples of things you SHOULD greenify: games, music player. Maybe some of the games or other apps may keep a background service active, secretly using your battery even though the last time you used it was 2 days ago!)
Finally, if your wonder is about 1-1.5 years old, chances are your battery is already bloated (perhaps you can feel your battery through the backcover of your phone even!) A bloated battery is a dangerous and short-capacity battery. Even with the best rom you may only push through a day from 100-0%. If your battery still looks fine but your phone is nearing its birthday, go ahead and do some online shopping (ebay or local equivalent, like malaysia we have Lelong.com.my) and get a battery for your phone. Its usually much cheaper than buying from telephone shops.
EDIT: Adding on to all of that, choosing a good governor+i/o scheduler combo is important as well. If our phone is similar with the S+, smartassv2+sio(i've used this, its quite smooth and battery is good) OR OnDemand+noop is thought to be very good in terms of battery life and responsiveness. Lulzactive is also very good but its not so easy to tune it so i usually would stay away from it. Do bear in mind that although the former 2 combo is good, it still highly depends on how you use your phone so there will not be a universally best governor+io combo. Both of those suggested by me are supposingly best in responsiveness as well as deepsleep battery conserving (only if the assumption that our roms work the same as the roms tested in S+, which MAY NOT be true).
TL;DR? try smartassv2+sio (u may change this using IncrediControl, get from playstore). Then if you are not satisfied with your current performance/battery life, you may continue experimenting by changing governor and i/o scheduler one at a time. If you are doing the testing, make sure to have some way to record your tests if not you will 100% be deceived by placebo!(with actual numbers you will clearly see whether your feeling is placebo or if there really is an improvement)
I'm having some seeeeerious battery issues with alpha3. With just 15 minutes screen usage in a day, battery settings says my screen used up more than 20% of the battery! This just for consulting the time and the weather.

that 20% is not actually the 20% of the battery juice. It is 20% of whatever amount of battery is drained due to the display being ON. Like if your battery is used from 100% to 90%, then only 2% is used by the display.
I am not sure if I could explain what I mean.
EDIT: Hmmm maybe I misunderstood what you said... If that is the case, disregard.
And also my galaxy W will use all of its battery charge when the display is constantly ON for about 3-5 hours.
Actually, I've figured out what it was. It was Google Now. Chewing away at the battery without saying a word anywhere in the battery screen. I am now back to my old 3 days battery.
you need to install cpu spay from google play and you need look deep sleep time.
this reaction is typical if your coming from a stock or at least cm9.
there has been a lot of arguments about battery life of cm10 and above.
in my opinion, there really is a difference, i mean cm10+ drains battery faster.
and the reason being is of course the features there is in cm10++.
if you're after battery life, stay with stock or cm9 (for now).
but if you feel like your in with cm10+ and you don't want to go back like me, then may want to try these tricks:
1) using Titanium Backup, freeze the apps that you don't really use.
- in my phone i froze pico tts, voice search, talk back, etc. (i even froze google search )
2) i use an app called "autostarts", it can disable auto starting of app including those of the system.
- in my phone, i disabled google maps in every activity. ex. after startup, connectivity changed, wifi connected, widget updating
3) disable system settings which also contribute to battery draining.
- disable location service when your not using it
- disable automatic backup/restore
- disable haptic feedback
- disable autosync
- disable the top battery drainers when not in use (wifi, mobile data, gps, bluetooth)
- and many more just explore
4) do not use so many widgets (my home screen has 0 widget)
5) do not use live wallpaper
6) charge only using the original charger, not from other phone/brand, not from a usb port
- the best way to charge is to avoid using the phone until it's fully charged
7) finally, install only apps that you really need. just keep a backup of your not so often used apps and install only when you need them
If you think about it, everything i wrote above contradicts with the original concept of Android.
But that's life, sometimes you have to trade something in order to achieve another.
Our phone was baked as Gingerbread, now we want to make it taste like Jellybean.
We have all the ingredients, but we don't have a jelly bean pan to make the candy molds.
So we improvise, we work around, we do some shortcuts, we make alternatives, certainly it will cost something.

If you are doing the testing, make sure to have some way to record your tests if not you will 100% be deceived by placebo!(with actual numbers you will clearly see whether your feeling is placebo or if there really is an improvement)

this reaction is typical if your coming from a stock or at least cm9.
there has been a lot of arguments about battery life of cm10 and above.
in my opinion, there really is a difference, i mean cm10+ drains battery faster.
and the reason being is of course the features there is in cm10++.
if you're after battery life, stay with stock or cm9 (for now).
but if you feel like your in with cm10+ and you don't want to go back like me, then may want to try these tricks:

Backup your apps, factory reset your phone. If battery drain problem persists, install Greenify or deep Sleep battery saver from Google Play to better manage battery resources.

I'm having some seeeeerious battery issues with alpha3. With just 15 minutes screen usage in a day, battery settings says my screen used up more than 20% of the battery! This just for consulting the time and the weather.

Battery app

There are many batter app that claims to be able to extend the battery life. Which one do you recommend? Has anybody tried "2 Battery" by Sam Lu. The developer claims that it could extend the battery life by at much as 1.7 times.

It depends on your own usage.
For instance, Greenify is a good once. It has a shortcut to force-stop all apps you add to its list. Which, for people who don't manually do so, can double battery life. If you're a bit OCD like me and do it manually already, it will matter very little.
Also, disabling as much bloatware as possible also helps tremendously.

I have to agree... greenify is great.. dont forget that not only does it stop it.. it prevents it (for the most part and most apps) from loading up again until you manually open it... that is the other benefit.. so stops those apps from causing wakelocks and draining your battery even more.. so by far one of my most recommended apps to have

DU Battery Saver in combination with Deep Sleep Battery Saver.
Buy full versions, set up Smart saver settings requiring root access.
Can't be beat.
Greenify too.
