cant log in to facebook - HTC Excalibur

hey, for some reason i cant log in to facebook using pocket IE. any ideas why? is there some other browser i can use that would work? if so, how do i get it? thanks
omar

I assume you mean the mobile version of it. It used to work. No idea why it stopped. I just go to the standard version now. PITA. Maybe the carrier?
-Mc

Nope, its Internet Explorer. Bookmark this link and you should be good to go...
http://www.facebook.com/login.php
If that does not work. Go on your PC and login. Use the sub-link that is placed before facebook.com and replace the www above with it.

U can also clear ur history and temporary internet files. And make sure u get the security warning. Once u get it, ur good to go. At first i thought it was Gmail but it seems its a IE thing.
edit: It is a gmail thing. At least for me. Scroll to bottom and click "view in HTML" and u'll get security warning.

loggin into facebook is the easy part, but can you post on walls? I've had no luck doing that

The mobile version of the site is far better.
http://m.facebook.com

Mobile Facebook is great. I just got on it today because they recently did a redesign which is making it a pain to view in Pocket IE.

I also have problems logging into m.facebook.com but I usually get to the login screen and then use the link at the bottom of the page to do a standard login. The only thing that annoys me is that if I use my P990i instead I stay permanantly logged in on it, whereas my MDA Mail (UK Spec) keeps on logging me out grrr.

If you're having trouble getting the login at m.facebook.com to work, try this link instead:
http://m.facebook.com/login.php?http&next=http://m.facebook.com/home.php
Bookmark that, and you'll be good to go. It basically forces you to the HTML login page instead of the WAP login, but keeps you on the mobile interface to save data.

Tmobile T zones settings

hey guys, i'm thinking i'm gonna add the tzones (5.99) plan on my phone. from what i understand, i can play around with the settings and be able to access most websites. i have two questions:
1- can somebody please explain to me in a easy to understand manner how to change these settings?
2- would i be able to use msn messenger, aol IM, and google maps with this plan?
thanks guys
omar
i dont have the settings anymore, but they're in the wiki. with me it was shoot or miss if it was going to work. then one day it just stopped working, tried resetting everything, nothing. it works by setting up a proxy so if the app can't use proxies than it won't work. google maps, dash weather, etc. didn't work for me.
it's been a while since I used it, so it might have cahnged.
From what I've seen, the 5.99 web package (or whatever) works with most websites. I have yet to come across anything that I cannot access...
With T-Zones, there's really only one thing you can be sure of: It will give you access to the limited T-Zones service available via the WAP browser that pops up when you press the T-Zones button on your keypad.
Used to be pretty much anyone could plug in some proxy settings on a WM device and get full internet access, Messenger, Exchange, POP3, IE, all of it. Over the past year or so, T-Mobile has been modifying their systems to enforce the T-Zones level of service for those who have it.
You'll find many users claim to still have full internet access using some proxy settings -- they're lucky, though I suspect their access isn't all that 'full'.
You should search the forum, it's all been explained a zillion times over -- don't think you'll find it re-explained here.
UPDATE:
hey, i added the 5.99 tzones plan, and then once it started working, went to http://www.htcwiki.com/page/The+Dash+FAQ and did the settings that was mentioned on the website and....
everything works!! all websites, google maps, etc! the only exception is msn pocket, however, if i go to www.hotmail.com and sign in that way, it works! hopefully this continues to work, and thanks to everybody for your help!
omar
Yea, you should be able to get to any page, and you don't have to use the T-Zones wap browser to do so. I currently use Pocket Internet Explorer, Deepfish, Opera 8.65 for Windows Mobile (Beta). I have not run into a page I can't use. I even do my online banking with Wachovia on my Dash, it works!!!! The T-Zone plan using the proxy settings WILL let you do what you need on your Dash, trust me.

Yahoo Go! and Windows Mobile 6

Call me crazy, but I decided to install the new Yahoo Go! 2.0 (beta) on my device (just to see if it is as crappy as the old version). The Yahoo website recognized that I was running WM6 ... nice ... I have (for those who care) Sleuth 3.1 installed at the moment.
So, far, it is running nicely. I like getting my yahoo mail on my 8525 without having to sign up for any special yahoo plan. Time will tell whether there are memory leaks.
For those in the United States, you can download from http://us.get.go.yahoo.com on your PDA ... or if you prefer, the cab file I downloaded is below. [there presumably is another link for other countries]
For others who try this out, we can use this thread to compare notes.
I was hoping the holdup was a new messenger... bah.
You know, the "push" side of things doesn't seem to be working for my Yahoo Mail... it says in settings it has it, but it's not pushing anything...
i know shame about the push
just out of interest which do people prefer, live search or yahoo go?
they're both very similar
Live Search doesn't have Maps.. .. that's what I like about Yahoo Go! .. that and it seems to be device specific.
hey same here Push is not wokring !!!!!
I wish there was some way to select and delete multiple emails .. anyone figure that out? Or even just to scroll through emails easily. The mail interface, in general, seems to suck.

same thing i said... no messenger... yahoo sucks ass. i think charging for im is dispicable. once you've got a net plan it should be free. i dont care if they put ads on it. they're so greedy they make deals with the carriers to milk us each message. and that forces you to buy a text plan.
thats why google will always be ahead of yahoo. google understands that you can make just as much, if not more money in ads and give away products free as if you would try to milk customers.
in conclusion: yahoo go with no messenger.... they lost!
on the brighter side, its just beta so maybe the official version will have it.

i love the go gui. yet the live gui is more to the point and simplistic, and that can be to the user's advantage.
Yeah, the Go GUI is totally sweet actually. Very easy to navigate. Now, I gotta convince my buddies at google to make something like this.....<wink>

Wrong. I don't know what you're talking about because Live Search has both Road and Aerial maps...
I've been playing with the new Go 2.0 today... mostly unimpressed. It runs slow and I've had to re install it once already.
The only cool thing I've found about it so far is the direct Flickr uploading ability. That is cool, everything else is sub-par.
Installed the new Go 2.0 beta today with no problems after reading this thread. I'll be playing with it the next few days. So far the GUI looks nice, but runs slow on my Edge connection.
It works pretty nice as an RSS Reader as well. One thing I really liked about the old Yahoo Go, is as soon as you took a picture, it would upload it to your yahoo photos if you wanted it to. Now with the Flikr deal, it doesn't do that... You have to go into the GUI and pick pictures to upload. Now you can manage the pictures better though... I have mixed feelings about that one.
Just had to uninstall yahoo Go because my phone kept freezing up..
Why can't I get Yahoo Go to work? My connection is set to Media net. I can't get Yahoo Go to connect, Google Maps to connect, Live Search to connect. Before I upgraded to WM6 I could get 3rd party apps to run fine.
I tried switching to my isp instead but when I switch to it, I get a message that 'the answering modem has disconnected....'
Can anyone help me?

If you have not put in your operator settings in, it will not connect because the settings are blank.

same here. Conclusion: NOT very impressive
Is a memory sucker too.
Prior to install would have 18-19mb of RAM avail.
After install was down to 12-14mb.
Now after uninstall back to normal.
With most email going through my exchange server and google maps and live-search, I see no need for more bloatware.
Jim
hear hear!
Oh well.
I had been waiting for this software for a while now. I can't believe they didn't include IM!

Opera Question

Did a hard reset and going through the painful process of setting everything up. I did keep a .doc file with all my settings in it, and that has helped. One annoying problem though.
Opera is very strange. Mobile websites do not appear as they normally do. They come up very small, and I have to zoom and center them in to be able to read them. Anyone know a setting to ensure that Opera sees a mobile website as a mobile website?
Some are working fine. m.cnn.com is ok, others such as m.google.com show up incredibly small and do not fit the screen as they normall do.
Any suggestions? Thanks.
Settings>Display>Click "Mobile View"
You are a rock star. I could not figure that out at 1.00 am.
Thanks!
JG
On a related note, I cant seem to figure out how to make links in emails open up in opera. I changed the registry setting, and the manilla settings, but links in emails still open in IE.

too many server directs

Hi,
I am having a problem when I try and access my Sky.com email account from my Desire. I get to the Sky.com page, click on my email, sign in and then get "Data connectivity problem" and "the page contains too many server redirects" and then a "web page not available" screen.
I have plenty of memory available on both the phone and the SD card. I have cleared cache, history and cookies etc.
I have removed all reference to sky on the phone, googled it, and tried again. Same result.
I have no problem accessing my account on my pc and I used to be able to get onto the account using the phone. It makes no difference whether I am connecting via wifi or the mobile network.
Any ideas what this means and any ideas how to solve.
Thank you.
The browser is having a problem with the way the website redirects it to the correct page. Possibly try a different browser - Dolphin, perhaps?
Thanks for that.
Have just down loaded Dolphin (nice browser) but no joy, I get exactly the same messages.
It isn't a problem accessing the account however because I can, via my pc, organise the Sky emails to be sent to my hotmail account which I can access via the phone.
However, as I used to be able to access my Sky emails from the phone but now cannot, I want/need to sort it out!!
Any further ideas?
I don't have a Sky account so can't check to see exactly what's going on here. You say "I used to be able to access my Sky emails from the phone" - do you mean on your HTC Desire? And it's just stopped working properly? That being the case, I suspect you're going to have to wait for Sky to come up with a fix. NTL/Virgin users have experienced a similar problem: http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?p=40027958
Thanks again.
I used to be able to access my e-mails directly from the Sky account on the Desire. I went abroad on holiday recently and couldn't access them (ie get into my Sky account after signing in) on the Desire, I presumed because I was out of the UK and something needed to be changed in my Sky email account settings.
However, since returning, the position remains the same. Google provide the email service for Sky.
PS And on that subject, I am also getting a security warning telling me there are problems with the security certificate in that the name of the site does not match the name on the certificate ie Sky is the site; Google is on the certificate!!
Did anyone get through this? I am getting the same damn problem.
Someone pls help.
Try operamini, that's what I allways use when websites play up.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App

[Q] Internet ????

These are most likely stupid questions for you experts, but it is driving me crazy. I am using the stock AT&T rom that came with the phone.
1) What do I use WiFi or AT&T? I also have a wireless modem setup at my office and at home. Can I connect to these? What is "Mobile Web" for?
2) How do I know what browser I am connecting to? I have Opera and Internet Explorer. Most of the time Opera does not every connect. I have even downloaded Opera 10, but I cannot find it.
1. If both are present, use whatever you want. WiFi can sometimes be faster, so if its available you may prefer WiFi when its available. But ATT's internet will work almost everywhere that has a cell phone signal.
2. I think "Mobile Web" is what the browser shortcut on the HTC interface is named on the stock ATT ROM, if I remember correctly (I'm not running stock on mine, its just called "Internet" on mine). Its just a shortcut to the browser. If you use this tab, it automatically opens to Opera.
The icon for Opera 10 should be in root directory of the Start Menu. If not, use the File Explorer (Start>Tool) and browse for "Opera10.lnk" to find where it was installed to.
PAP or CHAP Authentication?
What is this and what should my setting be? It is in the Advanced Network in the Connections Folder. I am trying to figure out why my Microsoft Mail will not come in automatically anymore. I have been playing around with my phone a lot and may have changed something that I cannot figure out what it was.
Another question is the Microsoft Direct Push - should this be on or off?

I have Opera 9, but have not found anything for Opera 10.
Did you actually install Opera 10, or just download it (somewhat common error)? It will download as a .cab file, which you then have to unpack and install by clicking on it.
If it was installed, it would show up in Remove Programs. Go to Start>Settings>System>Remove Programs, and see if Opera 10 is there.

It should be PAP.
Try not to mess around with too many things, if you don't know what they do (such as seeing the tweak on these forums). You can mess things up pretty badly. Or at least keep track of what the default option was before you change it, so you can change it back. Although if all else fails, you can hard reset (Start>Settings>System>Empty Storage). But you will lose all your data and return the phone to its factory settings.
If you want your email automatically pushed from a MS Exchange server (such as work email) when Direct Push should be on. Where do you see the setting for this?

It is here.
Start>Settings>Connections>Wireless Manager
Ah, yes. That one.
I think that will cause the phone to push MS Exchange emails to your phone whenever they arrive, and cause shortened battery life. Better to just schedule ActiveSync to download your emails periodically (unless you are really that dependent on getting your email instantly). In which case, you can turn this option "off". Or if you don't use any MS Exchange services at all, you can also turn it off.

This is what I had to pay extra for due to having to get the e-mails (for work) when they come in if I am not in my office. The company is paying the bill.
