Hi all,
I have a O2 Zinc which is a chinese version. I'd like to flash it to a English version, any1 know how to do so?
I have both the chinese rom and english rom. The program checks the language of the phone, so i couldn't do it by running the english rom installer.
is there any way to cheat?
buddy, i might not be able to help you but can you tell me from where you got the ROM, coz i don't know whether Zinc is Wizard, Hermes or what... i tried both of them but couldn't flash

zinc is none of the above, it's not made by htc, i think it's asus but not sure - anyway it is not on this forum

any possible sources that can be outlined?
It is made by ASUS, you can find "Asus" in registry.
I'm looking for the way to upgrade the Rom from Chinese to English as well.
where can we classify o2 zinc tnx..

Hi, having just read your other posts, I must point out a few things to you.
1 - This forum is for phones made by HTC the reason this site is called XDA Developers is because o2 were the first company to release their products, and o2 re branded them.
2 - (Due to point 1) There will NOT be a forum for the Zinc as it is made by Asus
3- You can NOT flash a ROM for anything made by HTC to a Zinc. And it sounds like you would have big trouble if you tried anyway, for example G3/G4 can only refer to a Wizard or Prophet made by HTC.
4 - There is a lot of stuff on this site which is good for non HTC products, so people who own a Zinc will still be hanging around, and may eventually post a new ROM, however if it requires unlocking etc... is another matter

pretty interesting unlike zinc...
I just made a mistake of getting zinc.

yes, get the 838 (hermes) if you can

got my 838 pro..
took 1 day for me to read the wiki and did what it tells...
Now its pretty Cool... upgraded to everything i shoud do..
Better.. Much better than ZINC... tnx for the advice
you should modify the regedit
modify the language

My father has recently visited Taiwan and picked up a Dopod 900 from a street shop for a pretty cheap price. Now, I'm wondering whether it's possible to change the ROM to *any* English ROM, since I'm not that great at reading Chinese. I'd also prefer not to have a brick after the process.

sorted use the special rom on wiki.xda site follow instructions (specialyy about boot loader ) and viola u will have a lovely o2 dopod

Dopod didn't make English ROM , now in here only English ROM can be use was I-mate, go to wiki and get the ROM from there and flush it your Dopod will become Dopod/I-mate , have fun

My Dopod 900 now used I-mate ROM and O2 Exec used Dopod ROM and I change them every two day , to try different thing in both. :lol: :lol: :lol:

mapping of keyboard for symbols almost same just can't use Chinese key

I have a o2 xda exec. I read the forum and some people found problems on upgrading their roms to dopod chinese rom. I haven't tried the steps yet and I just wonder is the process reversible and is it easy to do? I read that someone could not even start the xda. Thx

I don't know why and don't understand why someone can't flush Rom , it work for my O2 Exec and Dopod 900 , if you worry to do this , I will say wait next O2 come with New ROM , if you can't start the Exec than you can flush back O2 rom or return to O2 just say to rom you upgrade new rom get the problem.

Had been searching through all these forums.. but still cannot get an exact correct answer.
1) How to upgrade the O2 mini from 2003 to WM5? Can someone please provide a step-by-step instructions please?
2) What is so good about WM5? I seen lots of people wanted to upgrade to it although it was causing so many problems..
3) I see lots of different kind of upgrades, like blue angel, Himalaya .etc.. may i know how to differentiate my O2 mini is belong to which group? from IMEI code?

Anybody got a WM6 upgrade for it? Since i-mate is officially upgrading it to WM6, I'm sure there's gotta be a ROM floating around.

Shoot - Did you get a WM6 rom yet? I been asking i-mate for it, but they say this is still under development. Am just frustrated waiting for it.

First, all Dopod versions of Cavalier are bilingual (chinees and english), you can change language in settings.
The Dopod ROM on WIKI is a Hong Kong ROM.

I have a 1.16.707.7 English ROM while the HK Rom is 1.16.708.7. But it fails to upgrade with an invalid vendor id error(Error 294). Few folks at HO FO is using the 1.16.708.7 without any issues. wonder how....

Yes, I,m using that ROM too but forgot to change the signature.
I have a question, do you have a HTC S630, Dopod C730 or the Softbank version? Can you tell me your phone specs from device information. FYI there is no "free" CID unlock for Cavalier right now and you could brick your device if you flash the wrong ROM.

Did you register your phone on Dopod (HTC Asia) Singapore. If not, try that and check if the rom for Singapore has the same numbers.

Already registered. The only ROM available is the RUU_Cavalier_DOPODASIA_WWE_1.16.707.7_1.43.50.00_108_Ship.exe in the site, which I already have. Wonder whats the difference between 1.16.707.7 and 1.16.708.7?

I think that error 294 is "country error", that is why it won't let you flash HK ROM. Differences between 707.7 and 708.7 are minor, nothing regarding the interface but I would say a bit faster.
