Hey guys,
Back when I had a Motorola e815, there was a way to disable EVDO and force 1xRTT for the purpose of battery life and some other things I guess. Well, I found that when I'm on 1xRTT I can use the internet and use Instant Messaging and stuff, but since I don't have a data plan with Verizon, I can't do it with EVDO. Is there anyway to disable EVDO so I can use only 1xRTT? Also, does 1xRTT charge you or is it only airtime like it was on my e815? Thanks!
Any ideas? bump...
There has to be a way to do this... someone please help.

I am a bit confused as to what constitutes roaming with Sprint. As far as I can tell, the only way to tell what network I am on is the little network indicator on the notification bar. I have a few questions, and I apologize if they are stupid ones. I tried searching for the answers, but have come up short.
Is there ever any time where my network indicator will read 3G and I will be roaming?
Am I always roaming whenever it says 1X?
I hear people mention EVDO, is that the same thing as 1X? If not, is EVDO considered roaming or not?
Also, I have a couple of questions about the roaming options on CyanogenMod. If I change my network to "Affiliated Networks," I am unable to get data transfers to work unless I turn on both Data Roaming and International Data Roaming, despite the fact that I am well inside the borders of my country. Is this a well known issue, or am I experiencing something out of the ordinary?
Thanks in advance.

1. it wont show 3g if you are roaming, normally.
2.not always roaming when it says 1x but if you are roaming it will always show 1x
3. evdo is 3g so see above.
cant help you with the last one thought.

#2 isn't exact, I used to get 3g (EVDO) on my HTC touch diamond when roaming at work.

its not supposed to connect to 3g when roaming.
Don't you get a triangle next to your signal bar if you're roaming? I do. That would also indicate data roaming as well....
is there an advantage to roaming? I get free 3g data but I usually keep in on the sprint mode and turn off roaming.
Whats the benefit of keeping it on?

If you leave roaming turned off, you can hit areas where you either need to roam or you will get 1x data. Turning on roaming gives you the best chance to maintain a fast connection.
I found several options that I thought would force roaming, but it never seemed to work.
I was at a lakehouse recently where sprint coverage was present, but weak, but my buddy's droid 1 (VZ) was solid. I thought I could force myself on Verizon, but wasn't able to.
Is this easily doable through software? Or did I just dream all this up?

Roam Control works for voice, but for data, it only allows 1x speeds. To get full 3g speeds while roaming, you need to flash the Verizon PRL.
im having same problem, when im on sprint signal 3g and 4g works fine, but when i roam im just getting 1x speed before i rooted my phone i had 3g speed while roaming but on the other roms i have tried only 1x,
is there a fix for this?
update: i flashed back to the original stock rom that i had backed up and im getting 3g speeds while roaming so I know it cant be a prl issue it has to be a flaw in peoples roms? can anyone confirm a actual rom that has 3g speed while roaming????
Is there a way to force the GNex to use EvDo for 3G, rather than eHRPD? I know the Thunderbolt had a modem settings menu (##778, or something similar) where you could do this. Seems like it might help to be able to do this when the eHRPD network is being flaky.
Sprint Gnex currently running AOKP 35 w/ Franco Milestone 3 kernel.
Whenever I am tethering via native or WiFi Tether, incoming phone calls break internet connection. I just came from HTC EVO 4g which had DDTM mode option in menu which prevented this.
I was able to access DDTM mode on Gnex by entering *#*#DATA#*#* and MSL (obtained via a script found elsewhere on this board), but whenever I try to toggle DDTM "on", it immediately reverts to "off".
I have purchased Tasker from Market and am trying to figure out a profile which auto forwards all calls to voicemail during active net connection to prevent interruption but there must be a more elegant/simpler solution.
I have already tried flashing back to stock, rooted ROM, and CM9 ROM with same results, i.e., unable to toggle DDTM on through dialer codes and MSL.
follow up
I found another option in dialer codes which allows me to set as "EVDO only". Will this accomplish uninterrupted tethering?
I know VZW can only handle voice or data at once over 3G, if you are on LTE it can do both voice and data at the same time. I am guessing it is the same for Sprint. Maybe someone else will be able to confirm this.
Um... You can't do simultaneous data and voice over EVDO (3G) on the Sprint Galaxy Nexus. It's not an SVDO device.

it is the same for sprint.
if you are on 3g, you can only do 1 or the other. limitation of EVDO.
if you're on LTE (which is not common for sprint), you can do both as the data is using LTE and not CDMA.
I realize it's a limitation of CDMA; hence reason for OP
However, previously being able to toggle into DDTM mode on my OG EVO alleviated problem while tethering on same CDMA network.
I think I have found workaround for my Gnex: *#*#data#*#<EDIT<MSL<Others/More<HDR/1X Selection<EVDO Only Mode.
Kind of a PIA, but until a more elegant solution arrives, it will work to avoid pesky breaks/interrupts in long DLs.
If you're near a wifi hotspot, wifi will continue to d/l also while talking on phone, as that's a different radio. If you're on the road, then that won't help! Unless you buy a second phone, enable that as a wifi hotspot, connect to phone 2 using phone 1 wifi....jk

I find that when I am tethering on LTE data, my data shuts off when a call comes in.
I would love to find a way to stop this. LTE and Voice should be able to be simultaneous.
So I've been reading around but can't find or c anything, btw this is for a friends phone, not rooted, a T989 from T-Mo, the phone got updated and ever since the battery just dies fast, could anybody recommend a toggle or widget to shut or switch 3G/4G?
Thanks for any courteous help. :good:

Hi, I'm pretty sure you want just to disable 4g and stay on 3g and not go to 2g as suggested...
I would be very happy to find a way to do it since my area doesn't have 4g (DC-dual channel) coverage (I'm not even on T-Mobile network) and it's draining my battery like crazy. unfortunately, couldn't find anyway to do it, tried to flush some different radio versions but since all the recent ROMs requires JellyBean radio this is not an option anymore.
If anyone knows how to disable DC and just stay on normal 3g and can help it will be awesome.
