Backing up / copying messages... - P3300, MDA Compact III General

Long story short- new orbit coming, old one has to go back.
Ive got SPB Backup, but will that have my messages when i put it into my new orbit?
Any other handy way of saving my messages so i can put them onto this other phone?

Hi,
I think your backup program should backup-restore messages, but there is another backup application on xda-developers - PIM Backup (by dotfred). You can find it here:

RE
Hi the_erk!
But thats for smartphone only.
I think Sprite Backup may be able to do the job, here:-
http://www.spritesoftware.com/products/sprite_backup_premium.html
provided you know where the sms are stored
Try Sprite backup..
you can backup EVERYTHING, and restore selectively.
this includes mail, sms, settings, contacts, as well call list and such..
hope that helps..
RE
Hi AntiProxy,
Can you do selective backup instead of everything using Sprite Backup?
Thanks
You could also use Jeyo mobile companion or outlook add-in, available here:
http://www.pocketgear.com/software_detail.asp?id=14070
http://www.pocketgear.com/software_detail.asp?id=14071
These allow you to manipulate and send SMS messages on your device, including copying them to your PC.

yup, you can choose to backup any of the following separately:
file system, Personal databases, mail, System Data
under File System, you may choose to backup individual paths
under Personal databases, you may choose any of the following individual DBs: Phone (Speed dials, Call logs), Categories, Contacts, Tasks, Appointments
under System data, you may choose any of the following:
Other Databases, File System, Registry.
so in short, yeah, you can backup anything and everything
i personally have it autorun at midnight taking a full backup onto the SD card, with 2 last backups retension..
i know it'll come in handy one day
with the generated backup files being self-contained executables, you can recover from a hard reset without a host computer
Try Jeyo
one of the BEST SMS utitlities for SMSing that I have used so far is the Jeyo Mobile Extender.
It allows you to backup all of your SMSes into the Outlook folders on your PC.
You can even send SMSes from the PC if your PDA is sync-ed.
It doesn't have the option of sending your smses back to the PDA though.
Check it out at www.jeyo.com
It didn't seem to work with my XDA, but worked just fine with the IIs.

Couldn't agree more its great I love it best little download yet
just to tell you, you can't backup subfolders of your sms
ie if you created any subfolders in the sms tree, jeyo doesn't back them up.
does anyne know how to back up incoming sms for XDA IIs?
Just re-read above post, it's already been explained....use sprite back up..mas

Sorry for being off-topic, but I have searched and searched to my wit's end. Do you plan to have a version of SMS Organizer for the smartphone?

Complete backup tool?

Im about to install a "cooked" rom from over on the Herald section. Its not TOTALLY working for my phone, but majority are getting along with it.
What I would like to do is backup my ENTIRE phone to my computer (much like norton Ghost or any other backup software), and save it incase I dont like the new ROM. This way I will have something to revert to if I dont fully like the new one.
Is there a suggestion as to which program you all think I should use? I'd like to have a program where its an easy backup procedure, and also an easy restore procedure if possible. Im running WM6 currently on my Tmobile Wing (HTC Herald)
Thank everyone so much!
Active Sync will back up your contacts, calendar, emails, notes, files and program data.
In addition, you can use PIMBackup for your Call Logs, Messages, Speed Dials, etc. and either Spb Backup or Sprite Backup for a full system backup (i.e. you won't have to reinstall all your apps as long as you restore to the same ROM you backed up from).
spb and sprite sound like what Im looking for. Suggestion to as which one is better?
I think it's more of a personal preference, but for some reason I use Spb Backup. I've been perfectly happy with it.
Make that another vote for SPB, it backs up to MiniSD card, least on my Trinity it does, and following a hard reset, just run the exe on the card to restore exactly as it was when the backup was taken.

Backing up

Hi,
for years and years (well..3 maybe) I've used SPB back up on my devices. I only ever back up my contacts and messages as I've found the trying to do system details causes problems.
Just recently I've discovered (sadly) that SPB backup doesn't back up sub-folders that I've created in my SMS box (Saved, Logs, Important etc).
The advantage to SPB though is that it creates an executable and doesn't require me to install the software on another phone.
Does anyone know if PIM Backup will back up ALL of me SMS box? ok, so I would have to reinstall after a hard reset to perform the restore, but I'll have to live with that.
or, an alternative application perhaps?
thanks

SMS/MMS gone after Sprite restore! Help!!

Hello All...
I've searched high and low, googled till my finger tips are worn. I did a complete backup of my At&t tilt using the included sprite backup software, after clearing the storage and reinstalling WM6.1 I attempted to restore "email" and "pim" via my backup. Roughly 2 hours passed till the restore finished, but when I attempted to access my messages the message folder will not open. I tried restoring the complete backup and that didn't work (still no messages), I tried everything seen here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=529023. I cannot seem to get my messages back even though the cemail.vol file is intact. Is there anything I can do? I need help!
P.S. - when I try to do a backup using PIMBackup 2.8 after restoring everything via sprite, PIMBackup tells me that no messages were found.
i bet ur smss r gone, u should have used pimbackup in the first place.
anyway, look at the bright side... u r on a clean start now!! and really, whats the purpose of storing smss several days/weeks/months old?

[Q] Combining Titanium Backups of SMS

Have been testing the new CoolBliss 3.5 ROM the past few days, but after getting a few sudden FCs, I decided to revert to a nandroid of RCMix for daily use. I had made Titanium backups before I started, in an attempt to preserve my sms conversations.
Before I could restore my messages, I received an sms from an important friend. Now what I have, is half a conversation stored as a TB, with the remainder from last night showing on my phone...essentially, I am unable to see three days of this convo. For personal reasons, I want to keep this conversation intact and complete...
I have a spare SD, so my hope is that I can make a TB of my messages as they are now and upload that to my PC. I would then also upload the backup I made early last night, find the appropriate files from both backups and mesh them into one, to be restored to my phone.
Is this possible, and more importantly, which files would I be wanting to extract and combine? Is there an easier way?
If I'm the one on your position, I would download SMS Backup Restore app on the market. Create a backup of the recent sms conversation. Then once I am sure that a backup file has been created on the sd card I would copy that same file on a PC just to be sure. I would then run TB to get the earlier messages and create another backup using SMS Backup Restore.
Then once you have both old and new sms backup files created using the SMS Backup app, I would do a restore. I believe it has an ability to restore several backup files into one continuous conversation.
I would suggest to check the options on the SMS backup app as it gives you an option to save all sms under one file or as individual files based on the time the back up was performed.
I haven't tried the thing you want to do in all honesty so there...
Good luck.
I'd be wary of SMS Backup & Restore because twice now it's wiped my SMS backup. I think it's basically corrupted the files when trying to restore. I know others who have had the same problem, though it's not the case for every user.
OMO.
