Now that Vista doesn't require ActiveSync, I can't find where you set up the push mail settings? I know you can do some of it on the device, but there are other settings for it that required using ActiveSync on the PC... such as selecting which folders to sync.
Is there an equivalent to that function in Vista?
I think you're confused... You're gonna need access to an Exchange 2003 server before push mail is gonna work for you.
(Isn't there some sort of questionaire potential members have to fill out before they're allowed to become actual menbers? This isn't HoFo, after all...)

OK smartass, I've already got the Exchange 2003 server and it's set up and working just fine on my phone with push. I just asked how to modify the settings on the PC like I did with ActiveSync in XP. Vista doesn't have ActiveSync anymore, so what do I use to modify the push settings?
Don't they do some sort of a reading comprehension test before people are allowed to become actual members?
...well... no question is a bad question, but... Have you checked the Microsoft Windows Mobile site for this info? It is pretty basic, and no, you don't need ActiveSync, or a PC at all of you're using Push-Mail, folders can all be configured via the device -- the same whether you're using XP or Vista. You can also use the ActiveSync replacement on Vista to specify folders, but don't need to.
This is more of a place to post questions after you've read the basic documentation.

Now there's a helpful answer. I was under the impression that this is something that would come standard with the version of Device Center that came with Vista would support this feature, since it's been standard with ActiveSync for a while now.
And on top of that, Windows Update did not suggest that there were any updates.
In any case, the update offered on MS's site is much more friendly. For anyone else who has this problem, the update is here:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...89cZ3LWVMCWaF4pcOE196jjPpF3zpomEvPWVSGOVdMQ==
I agree 100% -- should be part of Windows Update. It should all be part of Wndows Update, and having Sync Center and a separate Windows Mobile Device Center is, at best, confusing. It doesn't sound like you've had extensive experience with Push Mail though, as you thought using it fully (specifying which folders to sync) required ActiveSync when you used XP.

Plus, the download is actually labeled "Windows Mobile Device Center" instead of "Sync Center"

Coming from an MDA 3 this thing is a huge leap forward
The only thing that kinda bugs me is that i havent been able to find any MSN like apps on it.
It seems that Pocket MSN only goes as far as Winmobile 2003, perhaps any of you have a solution here?
Mine has Pocket MSN on it. Original ROM with no mods to it bought from Expansys. Not sure why your's wouldn't. In a pinch, you could use: http://mobile.msn.com to use the web version of it. Gives you everything except MSN Messenger but you can search the forums here for the Live Messenger Beta.

Contacts to Address Book
hey guyz,
has anyone tried that file i post the other day.
i installed it and used it for a good 1hr. the only thing i was not happy with was the first time you use it, it asks do u want to add contacts to device address book. the only options you have is OK for yes and Cancel. Do cancel and you cant login. So its forcing you add the contacts, which i dont really want. I was wondering if anyone knows how to get around this??

ok i thought would be smart and delete the contacts from the device...hmmm not the best idea. Seems that it deleted the contacts within msn messenger as well.
anyone know i dont know how to get them back. without typing each one of my 200 contacts
why do microsoft have to make things so difficult
UPDATE 15/12/06 22:00
hi guys just to update you on this issue with the contacts. got my normal msn contacts back, thank god i do backups.
i have synced my MDA with my Apple mac and its built-in address book. Something i noticed on the MDA contacts was that there was one contact whose number, email/msn, address i had. and in his details it had his msn email under a field called IM (instant messeging). So i went back to my Mac Address book to see if it had similer field... and yep it did. So i spent a good 1hr changing all my 200 contacts email field into IM field...
Re-Synced the MDA and computer.... *wants to rip hair out*.... thats right no luck. Now my mda address book doesnt reconise the IM field from the Mac Address book...so the mda has no EMAILS at all now.
Hi all.
My Orbit has MSN installed, but instead I use the free Agile Messenger. Here's from the developers:
"Agile Messenger is the most feature rich and versatile Instant Messenger for mobile phones on the market today. Agile Messenger is used daily by over 2,000,000 users and has been perfected based on feature requests and feedback from tens of thousands of users. No other mobile Instant Messenger is as mature and reliable as Agile Messenger. "
You can get it here: http://www.getjar.com/products/5317/AgileMessenger
only about 500k file. Oh yeah, did I mention it's free?
Damn, I had to edit this post...this WAS free, I can see now that there's only a free trial. Well as they grow, the greed grows with them I guess... Even when I installed the previous FREE version after starting the program they FORCED me to upgrade, and then the upgraded app informed me that it will expire in 7 days unless...well you know.
ok, so just to do a quick recap.
I installed the above posted file, all went well, my contacts were imported and are now in my device address book and they are still on my msn on my PC.
What should I not do (or do) to not lose all my contacts?
oh and can the good gentleman that helped me before please tell me how to make a back up of my MSN contacts. CHeers

hi will,
congrats installing it.
this is the problem everyone is facing with live messenger. theres a thread about this problem.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=282540
one thing you DEF DONT!!! want to do (speaking from experiance lol) is delete the contacts from your device - Do that and contacts from your contacts PC msn messenger will happly be removed also.
if you want to back-up your PC msn that should be very easy. My experinace is based on msn on Apple Mac. Shouldnt be too different on Windows. YOu simply go to File > Save Contact List ... And choose a location to want.
Hope that helps.

hi rawedge,
the 2 ways i know of syncing is two apps
1) great app called Missing Sync can be found at here and is great syncs iCal, Address, Time, Photos, iTunes, etc see website for more details. Its one of the best app i have used for syncing.
2) the other one is called PocketMac i think this app doesnt have support for WM5 yet but should do soon.
http://www.pocketmac.net/
this is what there website says about WM5
"Windows Mobile 5:
We are currently testing cumulative updates for all of our Windows Mobile products (PocketMac Pro, PocketMac Lite and PocketMac Phone). We expect to have updates out shortly and will email all of our customers the moment they're available."
You can download both apps for a triel period, after which you have to pay for it. Altho i think Missing Sync is worth the money.
As far as i know of iSync doesnt sync with Windows Mobile platform. But i think missing sync uses some of the technology behind iSync for sync information.
Hoep this helps. Anything else just holla
thanks
I've just looked at missing sync however the artemis/02xda orbit isn't listed in their supported phones. has anyone got it to succesfully work? Don't want to fork out ££ if it's not going to work

You could use Windows Live! Mobile. Please read the Wiki and search the forums next time before asking such a repetitive question .
You can get it from here (it's in the .zip file)
Ive just installed it on my phone, it really is the dogs danglies, far better than that £10.99 pocket msn rubbish Microsoft sell.
I used mobile live to get hotmail BUT this causes the wake up problem for me even after I remove it. I now use a fresh rom with GETMAIL program. I use the getmail freeware on my home desktop and forward all hotmail recieved to a pop3 capable account which I can use the built in outlook to check. Until a new version of live comes out I do not recommend it.

hello,
basically i want to ask is there anyway to disable the privacy protection settings in wM6 outlook. I want outlook to automatically download all the pictures in the email without my permission. Is it possible???
Thanks in advance
I'd like to download images automatically too without going through the options. What security issues are there about automatically downloading images?

1. What does this have to do with windows mobile 6
2. What does this have to do wth a Hermes
3. What does this have to do with a PDA
4. HTTP://WWW.GOOGLE.COM

And in response to the question when you download a image from a server the server knows the fact that you requested the image.
Also you can actually put info into the image url eg : www.spammer.com/[email protected]
This then shows the spammer that the email [email protected] is active cause an e-mail client (outlook) downloaded the picture.

1. outlook in WM6 can display full html emails, the 1st time a M$ mobile operating system can do this.
2. WM6 is now on the Hermes
3. Hermes is a PDA
The rest of your reply was an intelligent answer to a good question. Thanks.
This forum might as well shut down if a good question asked for the first time that affects a lot of people is flamed, we don't need xda-developers because we can spend hours going through Google for different questions instead of finding all the great advice in one place. What is the point of this forum if if we can't ask for help?

Dont know about you but my 2007 exchange downloads all the pics before i even opne the email.
Has anyone figured this out yet? I do know that Exchange will download the pictures but the POP3 will not automatically download. I have searched exstensivly with no luck.
I had the same problem with my POP3 account from Yahoo. There is an option in the Yahoo account (on the Yahoo server) to block images for privacy reasons, etc. I had to log in to my Yahoo account from my desktop, switch to the Yahoo Classic version (not the beta), then click options, then it is the 3rd page of the SPAM settings. Apparently it also affects emails that are sent to the mobile device. Hope this helps, even if you use another mail provider.
How would anyone tell MS of an issue with WP7?
I found a issue that would stop me from using WP7:
If your Exchange Active Sync User ID contains a space, you cannot type in the space to complete your login info!!!
I cannot use this platform with my own exchange server or my companies Exchange server.
Currently WM 6.5 and older did not stop the use of a space in the User ID.
Do you have a developer device? In that case I'd get in touch with those who sent it to you.
On a side note, are you running your own exchange server? Do you use SSL on it? If so, are you using a self-signed certificate on it? Does it work? WM was very bad at it - it would just throw an error and you'd have to install the certificate manually. WP7 won't allow users to install certs, so unless they corrected this Exchange would be a no-go in these cases.

Running GoDaddy SSL's on both Exchange servers. I can access Exchange(EAS) when the User ID has no space.
Well, the emulator isn't indicative of the real device behavior, it has tons of bugs and I think it doesn't even have mail - you'll need to unlock it for that. MS certainly won't comment on the problems you got this way.
Re GoDaddy - what about the certificate? Is it from Verisign or is it self-signed? When you go to the web interface, does the browser warn you about certificate problems at first?

The emulator/dev has email with EAS. It does work with a (no-space) user id. From Verisign. Browser does not warn of problem. GoDaddy SSL works for any device with the EAS feature (Palm devices (WebOS or WM 6.1), iPhone, iPad, Andriod, Any other WM 6.5 or lower device)
Can anyone with a developer device confirm the problem as well?
The emulator has no ability to add accounts, not even the unlocked one??? It sounds like you have access to the updated bits that the rest of us don't. Maybe you could share?
But at any rate, you should be reporting/asking these sorts of things on the connect site at http://connect.microsoft.com/windowsphone
You're the first person I've seen post on here that has a device so consider yourself fortunate

That one doesn't support syncing to exchange, or any other accounts, at all... at least not that I'm aware of?
Sorry, you are correct. Just tried the emulator version and it never syncs up. The setup does complete but, never reachs EAS.
EAS - WP7 User Name with Space Issue
This is still an issue with RTM devices. Here is a thread on the MS forum:
http://social.answers.microsoft.com...f96-3037-4f57-ac6a-83bc030aeec6?prof=required
The 7.0.7355.0 build still has the same issue.

to install self-signed certificates simply email them to yourself and open the attachments on the phone. This is how my school installed self-signed certificates for their mail server so I could get my school emails straight to my phone.
Anyone have any new information or found a fix for receiving HTML email in the stock HTC mail client? From what I understand Exchange ActiveSync 2007 works but not 2003. Is this correct? I've used TouchDown (which works with 2003) but I prefer the interface of the stock client.
Thanks for reading...
This is important to me.
I want to reply to emails that give the appearance of writing from my desk. Some people do question your efficiency if you often appear to be mobile.

It think that depends on who you interface with, I've typed:
---
Sent via mobile phone
...before from my desktop to give a short answer as I look into something. But I think you should generally stick to the 5 sentences rule, or better yet 3 sentence rule.
Emails should be just a little more than a text mssg would be. Short, concise and convenient.
Touchdown has the option not to add your signature, just uncheck it...did you try that? Just sayin.
Hope you find a way, I'm on 2003 too.
Cheers
Actually, I practice that. The only thing that resembles the fact that I'm on a cellphone is that it's not html.
