Anyone else having issues that the roaming icon is now constantly on with Black 2.0? Would love to figure out how to make it go away. I am on Cingular/ATT
No and in my experience its completely random no matter what ROM I have used..
When I did have the problem I used the cingular settings cab at www.htcclub.net
yeah
yeah i had that issue when i went to Vegas where there is solid 3g coverage everywhere, as soon as i got back home to NJ it went away
Having the same issue.
Not really a problem but, somewhat annoying I tried the cab suggested in the thread to no avail.
yeah -- the cab did nothing for me too.. I will worry about this more if I have the problem when I get back home in a few days. (just hope I am no getting some high roaming charges)!
don't worry about roaming charges, it's all Cingular. Just some of the ROMs have trouble telling the Cingular (Orange) towers from the Cingular (Blue - old AT&T) towers. It will think you are roaming on the Blue towers for some strange reason, but they are both Cingular.
Thanks -- that makes sense. I also checked my bill online and confirmed that there are no surprises there ... the calls I made since moving to Black 2.0 and having the roaming icon are not being billed at any higher rates .. so no worries. Maybe when I get back to the bay area the roaming icon will disappear.
I also got the roaming icon when I was in Vegas, but I did not get it when I was going thru the Oakland airport on the way home...
if all else fails, try a different radio rom to get rid of the roaming icon.
New SIM card removed the Roaming icon for me.
In a strange twist of fate, the guy who sold me my device (he owns the are Cingular franchise) called me and said he needed to upgrade my SIM card. He dropped it buy and I popped it in and...
Voila! No more Roaming icon...
so is there no hope for T-Mobile US users using th 8525? lol its bugging me too!
back in the bay area -- roaming icon went away -- go figure. Not sure why I had this issue on Black 2.0 and not on LVSW

Yeah, probably no hope. I was on T-Mobile before I switched to AT&T for the 3G, and I had the roaming icon a lot with T-Mobile.
oo dang...i remember there was a registry tweak on the wizard that removed it, i dont remember what it was, but i wonder if that will do the trick...

Man!! I too are in the same area (S. Cali) and have the same damn roaming icon. It's bugging me. If you find the reg tweak, please let me know!
FYI, someone said to set the registry key in:
----------
Go into your registry and modify this key
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\RIL\NoRoamInd
Change Value to 1 for no indication.
If it's not there create REG_DWORD "NoRoamInd"
-------------
I created this but this did not work in Black 2.0. I'm all out of ideas here. I'd hate to go back to branded Cingular. Good damn hackers!!! Help us US peeps out here.

Ok so i went to use the latest WM5 Shipped Rom from Cingular/ATT: RUU_Hermes_CINGULAR_WWE_2_1_.15.502.3_6275_1.40.30.00_108_Ship.exe
Get this!!! You ready??! Interesting find... I got the roaming icon after the new OS was built. But! When it installed ATT's branded stuff from the extended ROM, the Roaming ICON went away. Something in there changed it. We must disect this and figure it out. Any takers? I'd love to go back to wm6 but I won't until this is fixed.

Cell tower based location - poor man's GPS
Has anyone managed to get the new "My Location" feature working on their Excalibur? I have an S621 running Rogers' WM6 on Rogers network, and it doesn't work. At the bottom of the Help/About screen, it says "myl: N/A"
Anyone had success with any other OS builds and/or networks? It's supposed to support "most Windows Mobile devices". Is it the device that's not compatible, or is the network not sending cell tower info?

Works Like a charm, on T-Mobile's network, it gives me my location to a "T", and got the blinking light too, poor man's GPS........!(lol)
work with dopod c720w roger wm6 rom
work very well on my dopod C720w. i use roger wm6 rom with singtel in singapore.
it works well if you've previously used it with a gps at your location. As soon as you move you'll find the accuracy goes way off.
doesn't seem to work in Ottawa Ont on the rogers network. I made a couple of calls to make sure there was a recent connect to a tower...no luck.
Worse than not working
Not only did the My location feature not work for me on my Dash running the T-mobile WM6 ROM but it crashed my Dash. I had to hard reset, and it took a few tries to get the phone to hard reset successfully.
Works fine for me on T-Mobile in the states -- thought I read initially that the current release for just for the U.S.A. ...?
Works very well in Kitchener on Rogers/Fido network. My actual location was within the blue circle.
Good way to find out where the towers are too.
I've never used GPS on my excalibur, and it works perfectly fine for me.

I test in Singtel mobile in Singapore and AIS in Bangkok Thailand. Both works OK.
It worked perfect for me...maybe a little too perfect. It said that it could find me within 1700 meters of my actual location, and it did.
Did not work
I have a US tmo unlocked and setup for US att network. I get "error: connecterror [183]". Nothing on google seems to tell me what this is. I can go send/receive calls, go online and receive mms (following att setup per this sites board), but it always gives this error at load. Take sim out, same error, as if the software sees no connection settings when sim inserted. Ideas?
WTF I keep getting location currently unavailable. Whether it be in NYC, Connecticut or Rochester, NY. (T-Mobile Dash)
um the problem might be that you do not have a data plan or what not... or maybe you are not near a cell tower I am guessing... trying moving around or maybe try it next time you go to the mall or shopping (somewhere further from your house).
Me too
I just tried it on my Dash running AT&T's EDGE (US). I got a location that was supposed to be accurate to 2.1 Kilometers. It was closer to a kilometer. Not quite GPS accurate, but hopefully it should be nice next time I'm trying to help a friend navigate around Philly or some other big city I don't know my way around.
SurrealNetworks App Unlock
Hey guys all you need for google map "My location" to work on your T-Mobile dash you must app unlock your device with an application called SurrealNetworks App Unlock
This is the link where you can download the application.

Once you install this program my location should work perfectly, because this is what I did and it been working great on my Dash...

I had the same issue when I was on WiFi and was connected to my wireless router. Then when I turned it off and went for a drive it worked.
I honestly think this is useless unless your in a brand new city. I disabled this feature because it wasn't helpful in telling me were I was exactly. I'd rather take the 15 seconds and type the intersection in rather than the 25 seconds of looking around to see where I am according to the map.
Usually its more than 1700 meters for me. At one time it was in the wrong town.
Using a Rogers S621 w/Rogers WM6 ROM and My Location won't work.
amazing, it works !
Roger User Here - Works Perfectly Including MyLocation but it's inaccurate. it's very close to where i am but still not right - i guess you don't get everything you want lol
It's up and running.
I now have full signal roaming on the orange network, not tried it with any anger but seems good so far - I also seem to have 3g data whilst roaming
Theres a link on the t-mobile home page
I signed up a while ago and I cant use orange network. How did you make it roam on orange?
Sent from the past.
Its only in a "beta" phase, if you run out of Tmobile (or Orange) signal completely then it will switch to the other service if that is available.
At some point early 2011 your phone will start to use whichever has the stronger signal.
Ahh shame. I only get 2g at home on t-mobile wish it could switch to orange as my home has good coverage. This could make me stick to t-mobile now!
What if at home I force wcdma? Will it connect to orange then? Must try it!

Try forcing it to orange :-
wireless & networks -> mobile networks -> network operators -> search networks
and select t-mobile orange
Wonder if this could be automated with tasker depending on location?

It worked for my mrs sony erik, but mine still says "won't work with this sim"......
Works here. I registered on the Orange site and got a text saying it was ready, but it wouldn't work til about 3 hours later when I got a sim update from Orange. It now says Orange T-Mobile when I manually search for the network. The only issue is I don't think I ever lose Orange signal wherever I go..

Same here, I have to MANUALLY search and set. Does anyone know if this new "T-Mobile/Orange" network we are finding simply works with both? Or if we go out of range of a 'converted' transmitter, will we have to look (i.e. search again) for the original Orange (or T-M) network? Seems a bit Heath-Robinson if you ask me.
Is there a way on the Desire of setting more than one network as 'preferred'? I used to be able to do that on an old S-E I think.
Mine is set to auto and now mine yoyo's between T-Mobile and T-Orange depending on signal strength.

Guys,
Unlocked and rooted One X on AT&T and my pegged out signal keeps changing from H to 3G over and over and over.... you get the picture. Never stays on one very long before changing and will disrupt data services for a brief moment while it does.
Is anyone else seeing this behavior and if so, any fix to resolve?

Yea I notice it. I believe it's part of the way it saves power but idk if thats true because on my Galaxy Nexus, it would almost always stay on "H".
Mine doesn't really switch out of "H" though when actually loading something, just takes a bit to go from "3G" to "H". I've maybe experienced it once or twice when actually loading something where it would switch out of "H" to "3G" while loading something on XDA or a website. But it's usually when connection is weak.
I'm having the same issue.
if it keeps happening, then complain to ATT and ask for credit on your data plan because it doesn't work the way it should.
From what I read, AT&T phones show only h, even though in the background they switch back and forth.
But when you use international phones on the network, it will show the switching around. I'm not sure if that's related to your issue, but over here on rogers, my phone switches between 3g and h constantly, even when I'm at one location.. The thing is that I don't get long disruptions though, if any at all.
I'm on att and don't experience this. My icon switches frequently but I don't see any interruption in service.

Thanks all, just wanted to make sure that I was the only one experiencing. I will probably go into the AT&T store and see if their One XL display units is doing the same thing while I have mine with me.
Could be that "international" issue type of thing... who knows.
Yes, mine does this too. Im on straight talk which uses at&t and it frequently keeps switching back and forth.

Mine should be in on Tuesday. Think we might have the wrong APN's??
Have you checked the APN settings?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1109983
Moving from 2/3G to HSPA+ is by design and called fast dormancy. Here's more than you could ever possibly want to know about it.
http://www.slideshare.net/zahidtg/gsma-fast-dormancy-best-practices
It saves battery life and when working properly it's undetectable. That is when FD is active on a device and the network it's using supports it. (AT&T does). If OP's dropping signal something's wrong. I'd check...
- The APN's you use on AT&T must match the plan that's provisioned in your account settings. If you're on a 3G plan (grandfathered unlimited, MediaNet, data for non-Smartphones) use the 3G (Cingular) settings. If you're on a 4G (non-LTE) plan use the 4G (HSPA+) APN. Wrong APN means funky data even if it seems fine sometimes.
- Older SIMs or SIMs from iPhone's in non-Apple devices have caused problems. As has bad surgery in the move to micro. Pop in to an AT&T store and get a new micro SIM matched to the provisioning of your account.
- Bad phone h/w. In not the above it could be the device.
I've just been across the country on the AT&T network and my phone has performed better than my i9100 in picking up and maintaining a signal (I'm on a 3G plan). It's been impressive actually especially in moving from HSPA to Wi-Fi and back. So with the right settings the phone itself should be fine.

Just tried that and it's not working for me. Doubled checked, everything is exactly as he said. I just don't have the option to switch from what it currently is (MediaNet). There's no radio button for the other two. Even after deleting the original (only leaving the two I just made) and restarting, I have no connection to the network.

After you set up the new APN's try deleting the old one. You can always get it back by selecting "restore to default."

I had an unactivated micro SIM that I had my corporate account rep activate so my situation's different than yours; the SIM is tied exactly to the settings in my account. I popped it in, it picked up the MediaNet settings, and all was good.
My phone has a single APN so I can't see the way the settings look when there are multiples. The last setting in the active APN is "APN enable/disable" which is greyed out on my because there's no other choice. Did you try disabling it after you got the new APN's entered? Maybe if you do it'll allow you to select the new APN's you created.

My "APN enable/disable" is greyed out as well. I tried the new APNs in the other thread and couldn't get a internet connection. The only successful APN with the One X was the medianet. Other than that, I'll settle for the medianet but only wanted to change it to get better speeds in my area since this phone is capable of receiving up to 21mbps.

The highest I've seen on either an international phone or an AT&T 21MB-capable phone is 8MBish down. That's in TX where there's lots of bandwidth shared by not a lot of people. In markets like LAX, NYC, and SFO you're lucky to break 5MB because of the congestion. I've seen 2MB and under in Manhatten. HSPA+ speeds on AT&T are very much YMMV.

Hey xda-dev.
I recently rooted my phone and did a carrier unlock through the dial code method.
I'm currently in the US travelling, and even though I paid for a unlimited text/call US and Canada, I get a "EMERGENCY CALLS ONLY" and now, there's just a circle with a line through it at the top where the signal bars should be.
I will be in the US for another 4 days or so, and I need a way to get my phone to start working because I need to get ahold of friends and people at home while I'm travelling.
Is there any way to reset to default on the service menu? What is wrong with this even? I have no idea how to troubleshoot this whatsoever.
There is nothing wrong with your phone. Who is your carrier? It's probably the fact your carrier does not have any roaming agreement in place where you are.

You'd have to allow roaming. You can call Rogers about it, one thing though, unlimited text/call US & Canada can mean from your city. Once in the US, you're not on Rogers towers anymore, therefor, you get roaming fees.

It's not your service, It's your phone. I noticed this the other day when I went to the states too, but I forgot to make sure that I automatically roamed to the right network.
Try this.... Go to Settings -> More Settings -> Mobile Networks -> Network Operators | Searching | -> Automatic
As soon as you go into the Network Ops it will start to search to see what's available around you. Make sure after you've searched its set to Automatic. That way when you are out and about, It will go to whatever network the sim card is in your phone it will choose that one first, but if it can't find that one it will go to the next best thing.
I did the same thing myself when I moved to Vegas for 2 months... I unlocked my sim and put in a T-Mobile card in...
If that doesn't solve the problem, then your phone wasn't unlocked fully. Reason why I say this is I work for Rogers/Fido and have seen this issue a few times other than doing it personally myself.
Sorry wrong thread

All,
I have searched everywhere with all sort of keywords and Boolean but just cant seem to find any thread or response related to the issue I am facing.
I was traveling with my Tmo S4 running the 2/3 Nightly, when I went roaming and the carrier changed to ATT.
Now I am back at home, and the phone is just stuck on ATT as the carrier name. Everywhere, where it would say Carrier Name, it says ATT. I checked the APN and it is connected to fast.tmo APN. I also tried changing other settings hoping it would change but no luck. I have used up over 1 GB of data since returning back on Thursday, and if it was truly on ATT, I would not be getting LTE signal with the same download speeds and should have hit the Roaming allowance.
I even went to 2/8 Nightly, but still no go.
Any thoughts? Would appreciate it, considering that I have a passion for hating ATT, and having its name on my phone, makes me want to throw it away.
Thanks in Advance.
RP.
