Good evening everyone. I was wondering if anyone found a problem with upgrading their radio to 1.38.30.10. I have read that some people see a big battery drain. Does anyone know the best combination in relation to having the best radio version alongside having installed a cook rom of Windows Mobile Black Edition 1.2 with SPL 1.13.Olipro Bootloader
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_ExtractedRadioRoms
at the moment the general concensus is that 1.38.00.10 is the most reliable. However the battery drain issues might be due to 3rd party software (can understand why but cant really explain my hunch very well).
Your best bet is to upgrade to radio 1.38.00.10, do remember to flash HardSPL first.
it says on the page you need to update it to SPL 1.4, it wouldn't screw up my phone if i already have SPL 1.13 that came with Windows Mobile 6 Black Edition 1.2?
If you follow the links i provided you dont need SPL 1.04, unless you insist on flashing them manually(caution advised).
First flash HardSPL which will upgrade you to SPL version 1.40.olipro, top do that CLICK HERE.
Then next upgrade to radio 1.38.00.10 by following the guide, CLICK HERE.

Good stuff dude.
As always i recommend giving the wiki a damn good read, my guides are good to get stuff flashed but its always good to know the stuff behind the scenes aswell enjoy
I read till my eyes bled. I spent a good 2 weeks looking over the Wiki, guides, and user posts/experiences/problems so I'd be ready for most anything.

the 2nd link you provided, when I was about to update it, it said would you like to update to 1.18.00.10... I think this is incorrect....

If you are referring to the screenshots i do say to IGNORE THE VERSION number!
yes sir i know that.. this is the screen shot
wierd but i still went thru with it... and i went to device information and it showed up with the 1.38.00.10.. very weird.. but still works non-the-less

Please read the guide word for word before posting on something i have already covered.
Good though the upgrade worked.
I have just upgraded to 1.38.30.10 but did not have time to check the battery lifetime.
I did this actually because in combination with WMBE 1.2 and Radio 1.38.00.10 the original HTC handsfree M100 was working very very bad, with lots of voice path interruptions.
Needless to say that neither 1.38.30.10 did a better job, as well as other ROM and Radio combinations.
I'll come back with impressions on battery lifetime and speech quality as well about the 1.38.30.10 version...

I've been running with 1.38.30.10 for several days now (since it came out actually). Before that I was on 1.35, then 1.38.00.11, then 1.38.00.10 (which is just 1.38.00.11 with the GPS stripped out). Only time I've noticed excessive battery drain is when I'm in a questionable 3G area & the phone keeps switching between 3G & 2G (GSM). I don't find that surprising, however.
If you are in Aus & using Telstra, it is my understanding that the minimum recommended radio version will soon be 1.38.30.10 due to some 3G Network upgrades in progress by Telstra.

I thought you meant ignore the version displayed on your SCREEN SHOTS! But everything is alright. Need to check out the battery drain issue if there is.
Usually i use internet but not all the time, and i have my BT running for my ear piece, and just usual regular calls. Will see how things are doing tomorrow so i can see whats going on.

I don't know what's going on, but lately my Universal has been...not necessarily 'dropping calls' but it seems like during any call the phone stops working.
By this I mean (it seems like) the mic goes out, and the ear piece goes out, but I can see that the call is still connected. And it randomly comes back in AND back out as it pleases. I doubt it is a hardware problem, because it happens while I am sitting still, doesn't resolve itself when I shake the phone(lol), and even happens when I'm using my bluetooth headset.
It just goes out. And I end up having to continuously call the person back, because they hang up, thinking my phone dropped the call, or hung up.
I do have reason to believe it may have to do with Cingular, because I haven't been getting the same amount of bars I usually get in this area (2 out of the ususal full 5), and a lot of my text messages haven't been able to be sent lately, but I'm not completely sure it's a carrier issue.
I am getting extremely frustrated and tempted to go back to my Sony Ericsson, just to refrain from stomping the hell out of my XDA.
Can someone please help me? Thanks a lot.
Oh and I have JWrightmcps' 2.01.06 Crossbow ROM and Radio 1.14.10, have had both for a few weeks now
Have you tried his Version 2.01.08 WWE ROM?
And have you tried other versions of radio?
Might be worth trying 1.13, dunno how it will perform in US, but it seems to be more stable for some. If you flash it alone (if you're happy with your current OS), it seems to sort out hanging issues previously faced with push mail etc....
Have a look at recent posts in Jwrights thread, have been some new developments regarding radio.
Best of luck
frustrating eh?
Frustrating eh, you want the newest software on your phone, with the latest (unreleased) gadgets and such, and all the sudden... BUGS!!!! don't get TOO frustrated man, with unreleased software comes bugs...
And like my mom always says: if you can't stand the heat....

Yea I think I'll go back to 1.13, I see the posts you're talking about, and I'm not using push mail at this time.
Also, I'm satisfied fully with this ROM, so I don't think I'll update to the newer one anytime soon.

Wish you luck... speaking for myself, 1.13 is the most stable AND I get reception where I never did before (like my flat). Very stable for me on O2 in UK, hope it performs as well for you

Universal radio
Could anyone send me the link to "downgrade" to radio 1.09? I'm having the same problems. Also, if you have Wisbar, try removing it. It works!
FTP is still up, instructions on the WIKI.
I wud recommend 1.08 for the best battery life..
Having nearly the same problem I noticed if I squeeze the phone a little the voice comes back, then goes off again when I loosen the grip. But what I say to the phone the person can hear, only I can't hear the other end.
If I turn speaker on, it also helps. It refers to electrical contact (hardware) failure at the ear piece so I take it back to the shop, as I have 2 years warranty for it.
I have my universal since Jan 2006 and I have this problem 3-4 weeks ago. My Radio ROM is 1.13, but I tried 1.09 with the same result.

Mine has nothing to do with that. I'll be sitting still, and it messes up, even with the bluetooth.
And I'm getting more annoyed because it's messing up with the .09 radio too!!! WTH???
I'm gonna try .13 now, to see if i get any difference...anyone have any other ideas? I'm seriously about to go back to my SE W810...
EDIT: I've noticed that it happens A LOT more often when I have two bars of reception or less...is there anything I can do about that?

I have had a lot of Radio related issues, not just with calls but with data connections showing as connected but not able to connect to anything, failing to pick up email etc ....
I have downgraded to the O2 last release of software, AKU2 (not sure on full detail) so that I can do some comparison testing. It has Radio 1.09 so I will be testing this week to establish whether any version of software will perform or whether the Uni is a bit flaky altogether.

With the service I DO get, 1.09 works the best. Seems like the faster Radio ROM when it comes to picking up service and reconnecting.

After a lot of experiments I have settled down to 1.13 (not upgraded my signature !). From all posts it is quite clear the best radio version depends on your location and servive providers. How useful it will be if someone comes with a ROM with switchable Radio !!! just in my wishlist.
Hey Guys
i just considered installing the new WM6 Update for my German O2 XDA Orbit...
but as far as I read, I came to a conclusion, its not yet worth installing because of the very poor battery life? Or is this "registry hack" mentioned in another thread really working?
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\AutoLoad\ TRUEFFS_DOC1] "Bootphase"=dword:00000002
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\Profiles\ TRUEFFS_DOC1] "MountHidden"=dword:00000000
Did anybody have a good experience? I am still unsure.
Thx for your hints!
Vic
i have edit, customized and write to XDA Orbit extrom, this is work perfect and i have not problem with battery !!
look this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=296276
I'm with you on that nicknicker. It is tempting to do the WWE WM6 but it doesnt seem like it would be as stable as I would need it to be. I travel a lot and relay on the calender/wifi/and email functions of my phone and risking stability is not in my budget. I guess one could ask why I even bother playing with it in the first place...but what I have accomplished thanks to this board has been worth it. I am going to wait for the HTC or O2-UK WM6 release.
I am however very impressed with the fact that these people were able to do this...
i did the WM6 english update as it is described in this forum 5 days ago and the only thing i can say is that its AMAZING !!.. everything works fine , super FAST and i have absolutely no problem..
i havent noticed any battery problem and definetely i will keep this rom.
i recomend it!
My P3300 is running faster than with WM5 before. The battery indeed seems to drain a little faster than in WM5.
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\AutoLoad\ TRUEFFS_DOC1] "Bootphase"=dword:00000002
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\Profiles\ TRUEFFS_DOC1] "MountHidden"=dword:00000000
Not realy working for me.
After one night battery goes down with 20-30% only in standby

Is this not because you're playing with the phone more now that its WM6? I know that when I first got my Artemis the battery life seemed appalling after my previous SE device. After a few days once I'd stopped playing around with it so much the battery life seemed to get better (possibly the battery becoming better conditioned after a few charges?) and even now when I use it more it obviously lasts less time.
Have to say, no issue with battery life since WM6 upgrade here.
I did the OS upgrade only as my device is still CID locked. Perhaps it's something in ther radio flash from the rest of the full package.
I did the upgrade, battery life is worse, but machine is pretty faster than B4.
Another issue is that the call-auto recorder Vitonote software ainta able to record calls anymore. I am waitin for un update.
Each time I did the registery hack my ppc goes bad, with new "extendROM" appears in my storagecard??? wondering why?
Is there a way to flash the windows mobile 6 part only and keep the existing radio version 02.67.90 ?
TIA

This WW6 doesn't touch your radio version at all cuz it aint complete ROM, so Don't worry about Radio here.

Not sure if this is too relevant to the thread but thought i would share anyway!
I spoke to th lovely people at O2 UK whom suggested the proper release of the WM6 rom for the XDA Orbit (Artemis) will be the back end of the summer!
This being my first XDA, is the the kind of support you get from O2 UK? I mean, Germany have the ROM already available as a download, not only that but their site is far better and far more informative!

Followed this up. Reinstated the original t-mobile ROM then did the OS upgrade keeping my old radio 02.49.90.
Seems to have worked well. There doesn't seem to be any issue with the CPU being ramped up and so far the battery life seems much better.
Maybe the t-mobile devices don't get on with the latest radio version?
ps does anyone which drains the battery faster exchange server or imap checking every 5 min?
Cheers
Matt

have a look on my signature below, my history of radio and why did I choose it.
Newest Hermes radio versions 1.54.30.10
Is good...
What you gotta remember is that how well the radio rom works is dependant on your carrier. I can suggest 154.30.10 for Australia cos thats what the telstra network promotes but that may have serious issues with someone from another part of the world causing SHORT battery life, cutout in signal and may cause the "No GSM" error if continued to be used. Check around to see what other people from your area are using and that may be best, even if it is an older radio. This part of the phone is probabaly the most touchy and if you do have a problem (from what I've read) you will probably be looking at a brick. PDA will still work but phone is useless. Upgrade at own risk. Cheers.

Yeh absolutely right !!!
i have 1.54.30.1 is the wifi affect by radio version, this one seems to kill the battery in an hour so
currently use 1.54.30.1 and phone can last a day easily, though generally specking 1.47 - 1.48 lasts longer, will be changing mine soon enough.
Go to here for discussion on signal strengths/battery lifes etc
Connectivity using 1.54.30.10 is great in Switzerland but batterry life is less than 24hours.
Here's a thread where they tested the different radios:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=358933
And here's the link to the 1.47.30.10 radio rom thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=326995) which I've been using with good results on ATT for both voice and data connectivity as well as improved battery life:

HardSPL is one of the greatest gifts, as XtreMe_G says. Actually I can't imagine not HardSPLing, why take a chance....
I paid $500 buckazoids for my 8525, with the 2 year. Explaining a "brick" to my wife (much less Cingular) when I had the means to not brick... I don't think so.

Thank you for your help, I got the new rom on the phone with almost no trouble. I had some issues with my direct push email. But I fixed that by removing the proxy that was set.
This is much, much faster then then the rom I was running before (ATT WM6 release).
The only other problem I seem to have is the weather doesnt seem to want to connect, I looked it up and figured out the code for my city (Danville VA USA) I used NAM|US|VA|DANVILLE
This works if you go through the Accuweather website, but it doesnt want to connect through the phone... anyone have any ideas? The phone goes out to the internet fine, getting email and browsing.
there is plenty of threads about this including this one
flipping though the ultimate radio list, most replies were out of the US and those that were, only 1 was with AT&T and that 1 user has a custom ROM.
how many AT&T users do we have here?? don't tell me 2. I am interested in the 25.23 since it's fast but eats up battery life which i can live with since a charger is always nearby for me.
any other radios AT&T users here are running off of? thanks!
I am on AT&T in New Orleans, LA. I am using 1.09.25.23 and have been satisfied with it. It does use a bit more battery than the stock radio I was on, but overall I have been satisfied. I am able to get signal in almost every place, which is saying a lot since I am a med student, and most phones drop signal as you walk in the hospital.

wow, that's great to hear. i'm trying to flash it but i'm stuck at 0% with the 262 error.
gonna investigate and get this radio rom working; i really need something that has better/faster gps reception as well as getting a signal though what i have now, 25.08 isn't *that* bad when it comes to calls/data.
I have AT&T in FL and I've been using Radio 1.15.25.14 with the same Rilphone...battery life is great, I typically get 36-48 hours with pretty heavy use (calls, text, email, facebook, internet, playing...) I've had no problems with call quality or anything. Don't know if there's a better radio, but this one has been working great for me. Not sure about the speed of the GPS, although with "my location" in the weather tab, it tends to find me quickly...hope that helps.
Interesting Andrew I might have to give that a try. I was pretty happy with my radio, but it has been draing pretty quick with yoz's new rom. How are you liking Benko's rom? I had it, but not the 5.0, previous versions were a little buggy for me.
As far as the gps for my rom, gps takes a while the first time I boot it up after a rom instal, but after than, I am able to get a lock in under 30 secs usually. I do use quick gps, so not sure if that makes a difference.
sumtin wong.... i can't flash anything. i can't even put in a hard-spl (any version) on my phone to change the radio.

I'm not too far from you, up in Fruitland Park, just north of Leesburg...
As far as changing the radio, there's some good stickies on how to do that, as well as upgrading ROM, and I'm not qualified enough to try to explain it...
Recommendations on ROMs: from what I've found, ALL of them have some things you'll like, and some things that you won't...it's a matter of trying out a bunch til you find the one that suits you. I've been switching on a regular basis just to find the nonexistant perfect ROM. My thoughts: Benko's are real nice, stable, and functional. I'm downloading 5.8 now, so we'll see. Couldn't use 5.7 b/c of email issues. NRG's are the best looking, but RAM issues are a consistant problem. SUN Y RC1 is my current, but I've been having some weird issues, and I like WM 6.5 or 6.5.1 better than 6.1...
Again, just my two cents, try some out and see what you like...but be careful, it's addicting

Thanks for replying back Andrew! yeah you are not too far from O town, good stuff. Hey would you mind sending me a link to download that same Radio code you have. I too am using At&T on my stock Radio from HTC v1.00.25.08. Its not that great at all, I hardly get more than half signal strength. I would appreciate it if you could share a link where I could get it. I couldn't find it on the Stickies for Radio upgrading. Thanks pal. Hey I heard this ROM is really good and stable 6.5cleanbasic ROm, I'm going to give this a try..

Not sure about the speed of the GPS, although with "my location" in the weather tab, it tends to find me quickly...hope that helps.

is this how you got yours to work? i will have to dedicate a whole day to it as it seems a bit complicated but i'm sure i'll figure it out. thanks!
Coud you please post a link to the 1.15.25.14 Radio to download ?
Thank you
I have AT&T and im from chicago, I have been using v1.11.25.01 Radio, and its been not bad at all. GPS is about 20sec, battery life is enough for what I use it for, but I would not mind checking a new radio.
also the 1.16 I saw in some fourums has been a good one, anyone tried it ?
i think all radio ROM is found here:

One of the links for the 1.15 radio is in post 773...FYI, I don't mind sharing the info, but there are some people on here that will yell at you for not searching...just type in diamond radio 1.15 in the search to find more info. (I actually had to do that to re-find the radio).
@apple, I have hardspl 1.40 as well, that's all you need, just make sure you've read all the flashing info ahead of time so you don't brick you're phone.

Hi Guys,
I'm in SF Bay Area using AT&T, have been using 1.00.25.16 on my DIAM100 (Diamond from UK). One thing I'm frustrated with newer radios (those ones other than 1.00.25.*) is I couldn't get 850MHz band to work on my Diamond. With my current radio, signal quality is fair and battery lasts only about a day.
Can anyone please try to identify if your are on the AT&T 850MHz band.
What I need to know is:
1. Your Diamond Version: DIAM??? or just US Diamond, or EU Diamond
2. Your Radio Version:
2. the "Band" from the HTC Field Test: can be PCS or 850
To invoke the HTC Field Test, just dial
*#*#364#*#*
Some chefs removed this utility from their ROM, but you can always get it from the following thread.

Andrew my man, I'm sorry bro, I search and search, can't find it. Page 773? which listing is that page on? I'm confused man, help a brother out?? lolz....me and soo many others have asked this question, If you get yelled at? tell them to direct at me, I'll take the heat for it,lolz....later amigo.
im using 1.00.08.25 in Indiana, i tried the newest 1.17 but it didn't work out to well around here.
battery life is great, usually 2-3 days with normal use (text/call and internet browsing occasionally) gps speed is good, kinda has a tendency to lag about half a block behind my actual position, but i think most of them are like that.
