I have tried both the LSVW and Black WM6 ROM and I always have this issue:
After I installed Opera 8 (update 2), whenever I click on a URL, say from email, WM6 complained that it can't open 'OperaLaunch'. This is even when I didnt select Opera as the default browser. This was not an issue in WM5.
Any ideas?
I solved this on my device by looking for operalaunch in the registry and deleting the 3 keys. I am very careless when it comes to deleting in the registry but have never had any major problems. My device is now able to open the url's in messaging.
I did that, but now Opera won't launch. Do you recall which key was that?

I actually removed OPERA and had to delete these keys manually since they were not removed in the uninstallation process. Then I was able to launch URLĀ“S via messaging with IE.
I think that OPERA is not 100% WM6 friendly so therefore I removed it until they get it to work as it should work.
Change registry
I had the same problems after uninstalling Opera.
Error message: OperaLaunch cannot open , blabla
I had to change the following registrykeys:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\wsp\Shell\Open\Command
String Value (Default) = iexplorer.exe %1
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Shell\Rai\EFBROWSER"
String Value 0 = Pocket IE
String Value 1 = :MSPIE

hi to everyone,
thanks to this forum i started to use opera 8.5 on my qtek 9000 but infortunately every time i receive an email with a link it launches ( as i click on the link) PIE. is there a registry hack to modify the default inetrnet browser or am i condamned to copy the link and paste it on opera tu use it?
thanks for your help.
I know this answer is not up to the level of this forum...but maybe it is better than no answer:
I have installed Netfront 3.3 ( i definitely believe it is superior to Opera) and it allows to select NF as the default browser.
I had installed Opera and deinstalled it later, so I cannot check if it offers such an option to select it as default.
Andy.
Answer
To set any browser as the default one
open a registry editor
point to HKCR
and the extensions that you want the new browser to open:
htmlfile
http
https
ftp
url
xml
go to shell\open\command\default
For opera9 modify into:
"OperaL.exe" %1
it should be the same for other browsers
What the f**k!!
This is a 2 years old thread!!

Opera 9.5 gives you the chance to set as the default borwser and works like a charm! I have not tested Netfront.

Thread may be 2 years old, but it's useful to me. I am trying to kludge together a way to have Opera open up when I click on a shortcut in the Favorites folder, which I have attached to the start menu. This will allow me to store/sync my favorites through my work desktop IE, since I'm not permitted to install Opera on it. (BTW I'm actually using a Titan, but I figure the reg hack should be the same. And I have a used Uni in the mail, so I sort of belong here!)
Under HKCR->urlfile->shell->open->command, I have this not including the quotes: "operaL.exe %1"
This triggers Opera when I click on sopmething in my Favs folder, but it fails saying that the local file is not available. Am I missing something, or is this not possible? I somehow have Opera set to open when I click a link in an email, so I should be able to copy the syntax of that reg entry, but not sure where to look for it.
TIA
What do I change it to if I want it to Pocket IE? When I open the "Video Sites" for Flash Video Bundle, I get Opera Mobile 9.5... I can't access the videos straight from there. Can someone help me out?

I have installed the IrisBrowser on the storage card, do I have to do anything different as just changing the registry does not seem to work ...
I've used many other roms, including Vp3Gs' and lvsw, but the "BLACK" roms are the only ones that enable me to log into my Wells Fargo because all other go to the page where it says that the IE is not compatible... is there any reason this happens? is there any ways to fix this on other roms?.. thanks
google user agent string
then find out how to change it in pocket ie. its a reg hack
I second this. You change that string and you can do the same on any ROM.
Proxy setting
I have 'disabled' proxy setting, and this has allowed me to use IE.
Hope this helps!
there was/is a app out there that basicly hides the fact that you are using a phone to acces the web i think it was tweak lite??? this was from a while back in the wm2003 days so i am not sure it is still around.
i stopped using my phone for heavy web browsing a while back and lost the cab for it. seemed like all it was is a reg hack.
maybe you can get one of the fantastic cooks around here to slap one together.
or buy opera i hear that it also does the same thing.
Buy Opera
If you get the paid for version of Opera, you can change it to identify itself as the "Desktop Version". This works well for me on the UK's National Rail website, which insists on giving me the rubbish cut-down version.
Well I've tried the desktop association with Opera, but I still can't access my online account with Wellsfargo because it is not a supported browser... I tried the user agent hack from WM5, but it won't work with WM6.. anyone out there... JJ? care to enlighten?
Changing the PIE User Agent is not as simple as a regedit anymore. The later builds of WM5 and all WM6 builds have the User Agent hard coded into the browser.dll in the \Windows folder. The User Agent string in the registry is now only for OEM's / Telco's to add any specific customisations.
The only way to edit the full User Agent string is to hex edit the browser.dll. If you search across all the Hermes forums (not just Wm6) there are numerous posts covering the topic.
Cheers
EDIT: Thanks for the below update PAPPL, seems my info was a bit out of date
Download "Schaps Advanced Configuration 0.9" here at xda-devs.
There you can simply change the User Agent in a User Interface!
The new WM6 Builds do have a UserAgent registrykey again. It's called "CustomBase"
Schaps Tool replaces this string.
browser.dll doesn't need to be hexedited anymore for WM6!
Only WM5 Aku3.x+ needs hexediting!
Thanks.. PAPPL.. I'm using schaps rom and have just been living with the fact that I can't do it..
Would I just have to change where it says Mozilla/4.0 to MSIE 6.0?
sry, but I browsed around and that all that had to be done with the registry but it doesn't seem to work with the advanced config tool... maybe I need to change the whole string to something else?

Thanks, I have been using a really old browser.dll to get CV to work guess I can stop doing that now.
Still doesn't work properly
I've done the registry change in CustomBase, but it still doesn't fix the problem
Useragentstring.com still reports my browser as Windows CE and I still get the WAP crap on some sites.
Using Opera set to "Desktop" fixes it, although Opera has other compatibility issues -and it's not compatible with my wallet.
WM6 is obviously still reading either the "Platform" setting in the WM5 key area, or it's doing something else equally creative.
I think the browser.dll hack is the only thing that is going to fix it, at this stage, anyway.
Anyone with any other ideas?
Alright I know its a beta, but please help. It runs fine, but when I click on the address bar to type, instead of using my default keyboard (TouchPal) it switchs to the regular wm6 keyboard (the one with small letters, need a stylus for it) and I have to change it back to TouchPal cause I can't type with the other keyboard! I am using wm6.1 on a sprint HTC touch. I installed Opera 9.5 to my storage card.
Is there a way to fix this? If so please tell me! Thanks. Btw I would've asked this on opera forums, but I'm not registered. So I need YOUR help!

Download the Diamond Opera 1660 build, there are no SIP (Keyboard) issues with it.
Have the same issue too.
I suspect it is a Opera issue. It is in the beta still so bugs are expected.
Also notable is the fact that the Diamond builds aren't crippled in the way that the official beta is thus enabling you to use flash and active x. My own experience with the beta was also interupted by out of memory notifications every 10 seconds while the Diamond build did not do this.
Just for informational purposes I am running a
Dell Axim x51v
L07 WM6.1 ROM (i think)
A diamond build though it might be different than the one mentioned above.
Registry fix for keyboard issue
I had the same issue with Opera 9.5 beta 2 (including version still on Opera site, 10th March 09). Up comes the really small keyboard as soon as you go to enter text. I found a posting in the Opera Mobile forum, which has done the trick for me (I have the Touch Diamond and preference for "Full QWERTY" input method).
http://my.opera.com/operamobile/blog/show.dml/2398155 Posted as far back as last August!
You need a registry editor. The free PHM Registry Editor did the trick for me.
1. Open your registry editor.
2. Select "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT", which is one step down from the top of the tregistry heirarchy (might display as HKCR in different editor?).
3. Use the built-in "Find" function to find "IsSIPInputMethod". (PHM Registry Editor has the find function under "Tools".) It should find that entry under this class: {42429667-ae04-11d0-a4f8-00aa00a749b9}.
4. Set the value of Default to 0.
5. Exit your registry editor.
It worked straight away. I've subsequently soft-rebooted my Touch Diamond and it's still working nicely - no more annoying small keyboard!
Many thanks to Dexterously for his entry in the Opera Mobile forum.
Hopefully this helps a few of you out there who have been going nuts!
Chris
When I go to "bookmarks" on the Internet tab, I only see about half of my Opera bookmarks / folders. Has anyone else seen this? Is there a fix?
there is a limit to the amount of bookmarks that can be shown on the internet tab (I think the limit is 5). So if your bookmarks exceed that number, only the first 5 are shown on the internet tab. Maybe there is a registry key that can change that.
I think the original poster is referring to the screen when you press the left soft-key "Bookmarks" on the Internet Tab. I experience the same problem. Unfortunately, my only work-around is to simply not access that screen.
OK, sorry for my mistake. If that what he is referring to, thenits important to know which version of opera he/she uses. With opera 9.5 on my TP2, I do not have that problem.
It is Opera 9.5 ... the version that comes pre-installed on the Sprint Touch Pro2. However, my bookmarks were copied over to the device from another phone that was running Opera 9.7 (I copied them over by moving the opera6.adr file from the old device to the new one), which may be the source of the problem. They do show up fine within Opera though ...

I once thought that was my problem as well when I copied the opera6 file over from my Diamond. But it's not. I created the bookmarks manually with my TP2 and it worked fine for a while. But after a couple days, they started disappearing again. I somehow think it's related to the little image icon that Opera saves for each bookmark (eg, the "Y!" icon for a Yahoo bookmark).
Did anyone find a solution for this?
What version of Esmertec should I use for WM 6.5? I'm trying to get Opera Mini going on my AT&T Tilt2..
This guy has done all the work for us... He uses 20090216.5.1 & sets the fonts to be a little bigger so they're not to small on VGA/WVGA screens.
I <3 Opera Mini more than any other mobile browser (except Safari but we can't use that)

mine are currently set as this, you can probably make them bigger though.

Good info here. Opera mini is a great light browser.
Great info, everyone. Thank you. Two questions:
1. Any way to make it the default browser (there was a cab for this on my Tilt)?
2. Any way to register it to remove those annoying permission prompts?
Thanks again.

Yes & Yes.
I don't have a cab for 1) handy - search for mortscript and you will get there.
2) go to \windows\appdb and find selector.utf. (Backup &) Edit it. You will see an entry for domain
change:
domain=untrusted, \
to:
domain=tckmax , \
(note that I added spaces to make the length of the second entry identical to the first)
copy the file back and u are all set - no more Java Nag..
Thanks very much!
Actually when I tried making that change, I got an error:
The MIDlet could not be instantiated:
java.lang.NullPointerException
Any ideas? Thanks.

make sure you put enough spaces to match the length of the old entry.. The best way is to open the file in a program which allows you to see spaces/hidden chars, copy the domain line and replace untrusted with tckmax and start adding spaces till the length of the two lines match. then delete untrusted..
I did this tweak on my Fuze w/ WM 6.1. Worked fine.

But last night, after I installed both versions of Opera Mini (v4 and the new Beta) on my Tilt 2 , I searched for the appdb folder and the selector.utf file -- to perform the tweak on the Tilt -- couldn't find them anywhere.
Can any of you folks help me out here? Did something change with WM 6.5? What am I missing, and what do I have to do to run Mini.
Those annoying "untrusted" prompts are driving me crazy. Thanks.
Instead of the utf hack, uninstall Opera Mini, go back to the download page from Opera Mobile (do not dL from your PC). Choose the option to download a previous version (do not select the Download Opera Mini link), and select the Verisign version (it's still 4.2). Viola! No more confirmation screens. I got this tip from this board, so thanks to whomever it was that posted it.
I'm surprised anyone likes Safari better than Mini. iPhone, Pre, and Opera Mobile all have the same problem, which is you need to grow and shrink multiple times to read a web page. I find it cumbersome. Plus, I can switch between mobile & non-moblie views. Each has their uses.

That worked. Went to the previous version, selected the "multiple certificates" choice (of 4.2), and installed it. When I ran it, the first time Mini connected to the internet, I got a "... accesses the network" prompt, but with one of those little check-boxes that says "don't show this message again." Well, on my 6.5 Tilt 2, when I check it, it does show up again, but only once, the FIRST time Mini connects. After that, no more prompts until you exit Mini and start another session. Nice. Thanks!
That's odd -- I only got the message once and was never asked again, regardless of reboots, hard reboots, etc. It loads the first page directly, no questions asked. I used the Verisign version on 6.1.

Tried the Verisign ver., too. Same result for me (It's not like I'm complaining, mind you). Probably a combination of the phone, OS and who knows what else.
I'm just happy to be able to use Mini without the annoyance. Even with an excellent 3G connection, the version of Opera that shipped with my Tilt 2 performs horribly. I could grow old trying to bring up Google, or WAP pages. It's worse than IE. Never thought anything could be worse than IE.
Skyfire really rocks here, though, for some reason. Just a few steps behind Mini for busy sites like the Wall Street Journal. Go figure.
Anyway, thanks again.
