this is not a specific wm6 question, just general windows question,
if you searched u will find the answer on how to delete ROM fliles

I have searched and still cant seem to find a way of doing it with out cooking my own rom. Is that the only way of accomplishing this?

Customize a Rom?

Hello all, i was wondering if it was possible to take a rom made by someone, and remove some of the apps installed on it and maybe add a few others. Thanks in advance.

Of course it is. That's what the ROM cookers do, and is the basis for these forums.
It will take a LOT of studying in order to pull it off, but everything you need to do it is provided by the gurus who build the utilities and give them to us here.
You will need to do a lot of searching, studying, reading and practicing. I don't believe you will find someone who will be able to spoon-feed you. It will take a lot of effort and perseverence.
Probably the easiest way will be with the likes of Pandora's Kitchen. But you should really read up on things...even with that kitchen, so that you know what you're doing.
Good luck,

So you can't just uninstall apps that are built into the ROM, just like any other application, if I'm getting this right?

Alright, but when you "unlock" the Extended Rom... can you then install/unistall apps that are in the ROM? Or what's the deal with the extended rom?
Sorry for all my n00by questions

Extended ROM is a memory area on your phone that typically holds some customization programs that are run when you boot your device for the first time after a hard-reset. It is typically about 10MB of space on a Hermes. Unlocking it gives you access to this space, which you can then use as if it was another memory card ... storing applications and/or data there. Using this space comes with its own set of ramifications, which you should read up on before attempting any modifications.
Unlocking this space does not do anything about programs and files that are flashed to your phone with the ROM. These files can be "masked", but can never be deleted or overwritten through normal phone usage. The only way to change what programs are installed at Hard Reset is to customize the ROM before flashing it to the phone. That is why the current trend with ROM cooking is to make the ROM as lean as possible, so that apps can be added, updated and deleted at will.
Hope this helps,
-pvs
PS: "MASKING" files in ROM is what happens if you attempt to overwrite one with a file by the same name. What happens here is that the old file is really still there ... taking up the same space it used to, but the new file is the one that the OS sees. It is MASKING the old file. If you delete the new file you just copied there, the old one magically reappears, and cannot be deleted.

If its a cab file you're trying to install, copy it anywhere on the phone. Then using file explorer on your phone, click on the cab file and installation will begin.
If its an exe file, these install from your pc through Activesync. On your pc(with phone connected), click on the exe file and it will copy the files to your phone. It will then tell you to check your phone, which will then look like you had just started a cab file installation.
If either cab or exe asks you if you want to install to device or storage card, it should be your choice unless the creator has specified otherwise.
Some files require rebooting the phone after installation. Most will tell you before they reboot, and some creators will tell you its necessary. In this case you should manually reboot it if the installation doesn't automatically do it for you.
just out of curiosity. how did you manage to flash 6.1 on the phone when you are unsure of how to install a simple application?

what kind of stuff? like does the phone do backflips or break dance?
be a little more specific man..
for the keyboard go look in the sticky ontop of this forum and download the keyboard file to your pc. plug your phone into the pc and let it sync. then take that file and through activesync > explorer put it on your phone
on your phone, go to where that file is located and just execute it..install to device. then reboot the phone when its done installing.
Stop opening new threads for the same topic...first last warning.
Keep using the same thread.

there are sticky's full of instructions for installing new roms....followed by 1000 pages of the same questions and the same answers.
i wasnt trying to be a jerk.i was honestly asking because id like to know how he installed his 6.1 so we can try to make it a lot easier on n00bs that ask the same questions time and time again. since he seems like a new user, hes the one to ask right?

You honestly think hes the one? I didn't think installing cabs was that hard. Put cab on phone, click on it from explorer, and wait just a bit, Done. I really don't think he is the chosen one. In fact, I would venture a guess that it was pure luck he was able to get 6.1 flashed at all. No offense. I nominate Gixxum to be his personal tutor
which is why id like to know how or what instructions he followed.
I didn't think you was being a jerk, infact i found your answer rather commicle, so i had to reply with comedy, i just imagined he followed the forum thread and think from his answer i was correct? But maybe not?
Biglarge what's the answer?

Im glad you guys are having fun at my expense, this is how I figured it out. It was posted in this forum, I wish I had the name on it, but I give thanks to ever wrote this and am sorry I didnt have the nameHeres how to beat the 270 error.
When running the installer, "push any key" through the first few steps as it says.
When the queue comes up saying "press center key and screen should turn white", "press any key to continue"
FIRST - press any key, to bring up the next queue
SECOND - now push the center button on your phone, and it should turn white
THIRD - push any key on your PC to start the actual flash.
If you do step 2 before 1, it will still continue onto the flash screens, but will Error 270 at 1-10%.....
Hope this helps some of you!

Maybe if next time you are more clear with what you are trying to get help on. We can help you.
Error 720 is/has nothing to do with "Installing programs"
Think about it.
That was regards to gixxum, and in my post of installing programs, I clearly stated installing the keyboard and I believe the sirius program. I am sorry for all the confusion. Later

BigLarge: we're just trying to have fun, did you get your cabs installed?
Im almost afraid to say it, but no, I put them on the phone and it seems to install but nothing after that, I have learned to type with what ever text is on there though.

Newbie..help please

I really just wanna know how to get started with how to flash. Also..I have a problem with my phone showing unread text messages that don't exist. I found a file that is supposed to fix it but..it doesn't say how/where to put it on my phone..and then how to use it. If there are tutorials on these types of things..can someone point me in the right direction? I'm pretty good with learning..just need to know where to start???

Try this, the fix unread count cab:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=278937&d=1265747454
Did you try a Forum search first? This is a pretty common problem.
by flash I assume you mean ROM's? this is well covered with detailed instructions and tutorials look at the stickys on the touch pro 2 custum rom subforum. pay attention that you dont flash gsm rom's to cdma device. cdma device is the sprint/verizon tp2. use the search function
for your phantom message try going to all messages from the message tab and just open everything i have had to do that a couple times.
start off by looking for hardspl on your device thats the first step. from there you can go down the rabbit hole as far as you want. have fun

[Q] Deleted Pictures?

I unlocked my Bootloader today and without knowing basically wiped my SD card of all personal files including music, text message backup files, my backup root files, ALL files. I honestly dont care to recover all files that were deleted but am dying to get my pictures back. Is there anyway i can get them back without the guide used to get back all deleted files as seen in this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1994705 guide? I was trying it but it doesnt wanna play right with my laptop(Windows 8 and it keeps saying i dont have "permission", even though im the main and only user). I tried the disk digger app but its finding all kind of random pictures i never remember and things like that, just too much. So please if anyone knows anyway i can get them back share some insight.
Anything????
That was a super fast bump...you could try recovering everything with disk digger and trying to pick out what you're looking for after it finishes. The recovery applications look for anything that has not been overwritten in memory (even if it was deleted), it won't pick and choose the most recently saved stuff for you; you usually need to do that yourself.
