This works with my laptop, YMMV:
1. Enable Bluetooth PAN on the laptop, go into bluetooth settings and enable it there.
2. Pair the phone with the laptop, using a secure connection.
3. One the phone go to Start>Accessories>Internet Sharing (click the icon).
4. Before you hit Connect (left soft button), be sure that PC Connection is set to Bluetooth Pan and Network Connection is set to T-mobile Data.
5. Hit Connect, now on the laptop, double-click or right-click and hit connect on the shortcut for the phone PAN Icon.
6. It should say Status: "Connected" on the phone.
7. Surf to your heart's desire if you have unlimited data.

Wifi
Will this also work with the Dash's wifi? I mean i have another pda with bluetooth and would like to be able to use the dash's wifi to browse.

thank you, jehlinger!

Bluetooh Dun Works!
I have bluetooth dun working on my devices using the the newly released 080308 6.1 ROM.....!

ActiveSync via wifi is awsome, but one question remains

I managed to finally figure out how to use activesync without having to use a cradle. So far I haven't had the troubles that I have had when I used the cable and cradle. No more inactive activesync, can't synchronize errors, and having to restart activesync every few hours or so.
I managed to have activesync running for 2 days straight without any problems and restart of any sorts. This leads me to beleive that using wifi with activesync is more stable than using a usb/cradle.
My question is, can I completely abandon the USB/cradle when upgrading ROM, app installs, or anything that has to do with using the cradle and usb cables?
I don't know the answer for certain but I should think so.
What I need to know is how to sync using wifi without it trying to access GPRS instead.
Any ideas?
My 2s is configured to access wifi first (I think the setting is under the wifi config). If wifi isn't available, then it tried to access GPRS. My carrier charges an arm and a leg to use gprs, so I never configure the phone to access my carrier's GPRS. I rely on free public WIFI access and my home WIFI access to do all my internet jobs.
You'll still need the USB for ROM updates; everything else you can do over WiFi or BT.
wifi
Hi nomad,
im trying to configure my laptop wifi (peer-to-peer) and 2s. My 2s can connect to laptop wifi but the activesync is not performing connection or no connection at all. appreciate your help.
thanks.
@3waygeek, Thanks as I have not tried update anything since I pay a service to upgrade my things on my PPC. Sprite also does not like to backup via WiFi. I had to connect the PPC to the cradle.
@hoobas, I have WinXp/Sp2 installed. I have not had any problems connecting other than the occasional ActiveSync annoyance when I'm connecting with the USB cable. I'm sorry that I can't help you. I have not experience your problems so I can not give you a diagnosis.
wifi and MS Activsync
hi nomadman
can u let me know how u set up wifi to sync activesync? i have a WLAN at home and cannot see where the option is to use wifi to sync MS Activesync.
I also want to get away from having to use the cradle each time i want to sync . AT present i am doing it using infrared which is ok but like u said wifi must be better.
Also, i have two machines (a laptop and a desktop) in my wifi network. Desktop is hardwired and laptop hangs off wirelessly. How will my xda IIs know which machine to sync with?
cheers
azeem
ActiveSync starts automiatically on USB, serial, and Bluetooth connections. You'll have to use the ActiveSync link located on your PPC to connect to the PC via WiFi. This is assuming that ActiveSync does work on both your PPC and desktop. So it's best to connect to ActiveSync at least once via cradle before going ActiveSync via WiFi.
Only install ActiveSync on either your lappy or your deskop, but not on both. One limitation with ActiveSync is that you can not use more than two partnerships without some fiddling around with your PPC and your networked PC.
About Cradle ActiveSync.
Uninstall ActiveSync -> Reboot PC -> Reinstall Active Sync 3.8 and don't touch any thing or open any programs while installation is in progress.
Mine is working like a charm

How did you do it?
I've used the search function but I couldn't find anything about it.
Thanks,
Dino
OK, got it to work, too. Very nice
But I had to set my Network Connection from "Internet" to "Work".
Is it possible to use both settings? My Wireless LAN connects also
to the internet, so I won't switch everytime I want to sync or surf.

In the network settings of yr phone, enter the ip address of machine you want to sync with as WINS server. That will tell yr phone which machine it has to connect to. You can set up peak and offpeak timings in the mobile schedule of activsync on ye PDA, so that it can sync every 10 or 15 mins .
Sorry if my question is too noobish. I have read so many articles talking about establishing wifi sync between a wifi enabled PPC and a wifi enabled PC, but havent been able to do yet. Do i have to have another software to enable the connection ?
Can any one please explain slowly and in detail how you could do that, i've been searching for quite a long time but still no result. And 1 more question is that after i can sync through wifi between my O22s and my laptop, does it affect the wifi connection of my laptop and my O22s? A bit silly right but i'm a new user and i'm not in IT field also. Thanks for any suggestion from you guys.
@azeemakhtar,

@ducga,
1. Install ActiveSync 3.8 on your lappy or PC, but not on both.
2. connect to activesync via cradle first.
3. remove unit from the cradle and reset.
4. click on the ActiveSync link on your PPC and tap on the Sync button.
* The above procedure should be able to get activesync working via wifi as long as there isn't a setting problem in your router managment or firewall.
* The above precedure should work if your are able to connect to the interent on your PPC via wifi.

I also have to do the following:
3a. Click Start / settings / connections / Network cards
3b. Select Network Adapters
3c. Change 'My network card connects to' from 'The Internet' change to 'Work'
3d. Close, reset (for luck)
3e. Open ActiveSync on your desktop PC, select File / connection settings / and tick allow Network Ethernet !!
4. Now when you click on the ActiveSync link on your PPC and tap on the Sync button - it won't try to use GPRS to connect and WiFi will be listed as your Work connection.
I always have to change my network card settings back to 'The Internet' before I can browse again.

Go to ActiveSync on your XDA, click tools, options.
It will say "When syncing remotely with a PC Use this PC:"
It should list the network name of the PC you currently have a partnership with. i.e. "TOMSLAPTOP"

How to use the 8525 as a modem through Bluetooth PAN?

Hello,
I did a search and didnt find much, I also checked on Wiki and they explain how to use it as a modem via bluetooth dial up networking. I would like to use the bluetooth PAN feature in Internet Sharing but cant get it to work.
Firstly, I got the bluetooth dongle connected with the Bluetooth PAN. It tells me that they are connected and communicating with each other, the bluetooth software (bluesoleil) even provides me with an ip address, however when I try browsing on my laptop I get the message page cannot be displayed...
Can anyone please shed some light as to why it does not work?
Thanks a lot!
EDIT:
Seems like when the connection is established it gives the windows bluetooth adapter a weird ip address
like: 169.254.6.198
but I checked in network adapters of the 8525 everything is set for ip addresses to be assigned automatically .. strange..
in windows xp its also set to assign the ip address automatically :S
im not sure what else to do..
Launch Internet Sharing on your Hermes & set the PC connection to bleutooth PAN. Now, make sure the Network Connection is set to your correct data connectiion and press connect. It should say "Waiting for connection" Next, connect your PC & Internet Sharing should show "Connected". If you still can't surf then its a bluetooth driver issue on your PC. The built in M$ bluetooth stack (XP SP2 & >)works correctly with bluetooth PAN for sure. YMMV on others. The latest Toshiba BT stack definitely works too (based on pesonal experience).

OS X 10.5 (Leopard) and WM6 - how to set up HSDPA via BT?

I tried couple of things but it just does not work, period.
Anyone has a working solution? Thanks!
I'm using WM6.1 by Faria with Leopard. This is how I use it...
1. Ensure the phone is paired with mac.
2. Turn on internet sharing on the phone using Bluetooth PAN as the PC connection and your data connection for the network connection.
3. I have the Bluetooth Icon in the status bar, I click on it, then highlight my phone and then connect to net work.
that's it!
mine works fine. Try the above procedure.

Bluetooth PAN internet sharing

Hi,
I haven't managed to get BT internet sharing working between the TP2 and my laptop. I've been trying to create a BT personal area network that enables internet sharing. Whenever i select the internet sharing option, it claims my laptop doesn't support it.
This is bogus, because i had the same laptop with the same setup working just fine through my old Tytn II. You just enabled internet sharing and away you go! How HTC have managed to mess this up is baffling (and annoying!). Trouble is i need to route my laptop through my phone or it's not very useful.
Is there any way that is known to work?
Thanks for any ideas,
Don't know if this is feasible in your situation, but can't you just use the USB cable and ICS? Tethering through BT would be slower and less reliable than using the cable.
It is easy but I'm not sure if you aware about the new widcomm btooth settings applet. In the 3rd tab, select Networking Manager > Share Internet Connection > Follow On Screen > Done.
I am having the same problems and I have tried the network manager > share internet connection but no luck. what makes my case worse is that i have the Toshiba bluetooth stack. any ideas?
gotta try that with tp2 btw yesterday when i tried to send some files from tp2 to my old hermes (tytn) it didn't work because tp2 claims 'device does not support a suitable service to perform this operation'. however the bt-link between my lap-top and tp2 or tytn works fine and i have used the internet sharing many times with my old tytn
so maby the are some issues with the newer bt? dunno
Eureka! I have manged to get a connection and i am posting this over it. But I tried so many things that I am going to have to delete the connection and start all over again so I can create a step by step guide for anyone that may be intersted. Test enviroment is TP 2 WM 6.1 (obviously) and Toshiba laptop with Toshiba stack running Vista.
You have the same problem as i did if you will get the error msg 'remote device does not support bluetooth PAN' and have a toshiba bluetooth stack. I should be back soon. Wish me luck so I dont mess up everything.
1. Enable BT on TP2 and make device discoverable
2. On laptop right click BT icon --> options --> General --> select PAN networking service
--> yes --> ok.
3. On laptpp right click BT icon --> add new connection --> custom mode --> next --> select your TP2 --> next --> select group ad-hoc network --> next --> next --> finish.
4. On your device --> open ICS --> select bluetooth PAN --> select your PC from list of BT devices --> accept connection on PC.
You should be good to go at this stage cos it works for me. If you dont mind leaving the PAN networking icon on your taskbar then you only need to do step 1 and 4 anytime you want to share your internet connection otherwise it will be step 1, 2 and 4.
Good luck and I hope someone finds this useful. I also hope in the future there will be an easier and more straightforward way to connect. There probably is now but I just dont know it. Half bread they say is better than none. cheers
If the fix from lombardo8 does not work/apply to you - try the following:
1) Setup/ connect an ordinary BT serial port from your PC to the phone.
2) Use the Widcomm BT applet as monx suggested above to setup the rest.
I have found that I cannot initiate any BT activity from my phone to the PC without a connection made from the PC to the phone first - even though the PC and phone both use Broadcomm stacks!
Also my Tytn II worked perfectly with my PC so likely not to be a PC problem.
Hope this helps...
lombardo8 - you are the dude!
this worked! indeed, i too am running the toshiba BT stack. it's the one i found before worked. I had tried creating all sorts of new connections from the PC settings, but the difference you have found is in the BT options/general settings.
Strangely, the "select PAN networking service" box was not checked. i guess this explains why PAN networking wasnt active. however, what is strange is that this must have worked before using my old TyTn II without this setting.
So once this is enabled, it makes a connection fine!
with regard to wire tethering, this is always a handy fallback, but i have found that BT usually worked quite well, once set up and working, additionally you dont need a wire.
For the life of me i cannot get it to work with my work notebook running Win7 and my netbook running Win7 & OSX
It's driving me nuts
Why can't they just leave it simple. Damn Bluetooth 2.1
Is there any chance somebody can have a .cabs to install back the old internet sharing where there is a Bluetooth PAN in the drop down list. I figured that would be alot easier.
I had the same issues with TP2 and a Mac Book Pro. It works perfectly on Windows XP on this machine but not in OSX. I found a solution for OS X though:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4101986
Thanks for the info but now i'm getting the error msg below
"Failed to establish Internet Sharing connection to remote devices as it supports only Network Access Point (NAP) mode"
What does that mean and how do i configure it in OSX?? Appreciate any help with this as i need ISC in OSX.
Well it means that TP2 thinks that your Macbook offers the internet sharing and not the TP2. I get that same message until i kill the blued and tick that mark again. Then it works until next reboot where i have to repeat the sequence again. Which OSX Version and hardware are you using btw?
Seems the new Snow Leopard fixes some issues with bluetooth. I re-paired my TP2 with Snow Leopard and this works like a charm out of the box. No more fiddling with the bluetooth daemon. Let's see if it stays that way
Just disable DHCP on laptop/PC PAN & u r ready to go.

Yes bro. v1.11 will have this feature but still Widcomm stack & bt PAN working 100%
Bluetooth ICS Windows 7 WinMo 6.5
I'd like to chime in here. I've flashed several 6.5 ROMs, but with the 23016 and 23017 sys roms I can't seem to connect bia BT ICS. The USB cable works fine. It seems that my netbook does not acquire an IP address from the TouchPro. I'd sure like to find a fix for this as I use this technology all the time.

Hi monx!
How do you disable DHCP on the PC's BT PAN profile? I'm using Widcomm/Broadcom firmware 2.1.211.299 by the way.
And if I do disable it, how will the PC get an IP address??
Thanks,

TP2 for internet connexion

Hi all.
I have a problem attempting to connect my computer (with Windows Seven) with my TP2 to make an Internet connexion (dialing) using bluetooth.
Please note that the connexion work great with a cable between the two devices. But I want to make it work with bluetooth.
So I used the "Internet sharing" in the "Start" menu. I choose "Bluetooth PAN" and my favorite Internet 3G connexion. Next, the TP2 asked me to select the new bluetooth device, and i choose my computer, naturally. Please note that I'm able to establish bluetooth port between my phone and my computer, so they can connect both. And now my HTC attempt to connect with my PC : "looking for bluetooth services" and finally, he said to me : "Remote device does not support personal area networking"...
What did I wrong ? Please help me ! Thank you very much !!!
I would just get Wi-Fi Router and use that:
