Recently after flashing WM6 Black edition v1.1, my Mapking software suddenly shuts down after some usage. I tried to uninstall and reinstall many times still having the same problem. then LVSW came out with a new version, so I flash it in and reinstall MapKing several times but cannot start the software. Now I flash in Black edition v1.2 and retry but MapKing still won't starts.
Finally, I decided to check for bad blocks. Using mtty.exe, it shows 3 bad blocks which was not present the very 1st time i checked before flashing all those cooked roms.
Does anyone else experience the same problem as me? Hope that the bad blocks could be cleared to original....

no one else has experienced bad blocks chump... sorry... time to send it to the repair shop...
Flash memories are fabbed with redundant blocks as during the manufacturing process there are process variencies that cause some memory blocks not to be fabbed correctly. so if there werent any redundant blocks fabbed in the ROM, any resulting bad block will result in a complete throw out of that ROM memory, so companies fab additional blocks that are addressed to take place of bad block. They do this to increase their yield rates to save costs.
Btw, I have PhD in microelectronic engineering and have fabricated many IC's.
and i have 3 bad blocks, and so do 1000's of other hermes users.
If your 3 bad blocks are 936, 937 and 938, this is nothing to worry as these are factory marked bad blocks and appear on the device sooner or later... it doesn't have any bad effect at all, and also is nothing related to your problem with Mapking.
Code:
Block 0x3A8(936) is BAD block !!!
Block 0x3A9(937) is BAD block !!!
Block 0x3AA(938) is BAD block !!!

Thanks pof for the reassurance mine are exactly the same bad blocks you mentioned above. But the bad blocks were not present the 1st time I checked, which was the cause of my false alarm. If it is factory marked, then why does it not appear in the 1st place, but appears after some time?

From what I have read, the bad blocks may or may not become visible, but it is built-in to the rom by the manufacturer to take up space. You were just lucky I guess....LOL.
I too have those three showing as bad blocks, but I am having NO problems with any of my software or hardware.I am running Tom Tom 6 just fine with no lock ups!

Any idea what else could have caused Mapking to stopped working, even after flashing oS upgrade? Nowadays I only only flash OS because it is the fastest, by stripping off IPL, GSM, MainSPlash, SPL, ExtROM and Subsplash using Olipro's ROM Cooker.
After installing MapKing, click on it will load its splash screen, but then it will exit abruptly from the splash screen. Checking the running programs from settings/systems/memory shows that MapKing is not loaded. No matter how many times I reinstall or restart, it just won't get past its splash screen.
Could this problem be caused by corrupted components which I did not flash? Should I reflash the whole rom, not just the OS? Any good advices?
Can someone with WM6 confirm mapking 2007 works? This bad block may be an isolated case?
Why not try MapKing G10. If it works means MapKing 2007 is compartible with WM6 and wait for upgrade.

I get the same problem now! I have tried MapKing G10 and 2007,both can not work(just show the splash screen)
Both G10 and 2007 does not work with all radios from 1.34-1.41 and all versions of WM6 roms I tried. LSVW, WMXL, Black
Mapking splashscreen Quits
Dont know if anyone solved the Mapking closes after Splashscreen issue yet but i kinda fixed it.
I installed Pocket Mechanics, Low Level format the Card. Set Cluster size to 4K.
Reinstall mapking 2007 and its working. Still testing it. Unless there is a problem. I wouldnt be posting anything.
Hope this helps the Mapking users. with the same issue

same thing happened to me, but not after the wm6 flash, I flashed to aku 3.3. Basically in the comm manager you click on the wlan icon, the wait icon pops up for about 3 seconds, but it doesnt even turn green, it just stays greyed with the x on it. I'm pretty sure its a hardware problem, I haven't been able to fix it with multiple flashes and hard resets. I only know of one other person that has it, I forgot their name, but if you search for "WLAN broken," or something like that you will find them.
Tell me if you got it fixed, and if so, how
I have it too...
I'm pretty sure its not a hardware problem because I was using it right before flashing...now it stays off even though i try to start it...
HELP PLEASE!!!
Working fine to me.
But .... few times I noticed that even that I click the icon on the comm manager the icon do not change (not sure what is happening to the WiFi itself).
Clicking it again (setting off) and once again and everything working fine.
I had some issues with wifi on XDA 0.20, it worked, but kept disconnecting and losing the security parameters.
I changed to LVSW ROM and wifi works perfectly.

Yes i have the same problem!!!
here as well! exactly the same!
I tried several roms now already, XDA 0.20, LVSW.
Even after downgrading to WM5, the error persists..
AND IT WORKED Just 5 minutes before flashing to WM6...
Any ideas?
Thanks

P.S. it's a Vario 2 from T-Mobile Austria.
Exact wifi problem...
...been after this for a while now...seems nobody has an answer to it.
Mine is an HERM200, I tried downgrading OS, Radio, BL....everything....no luck!
Someone call out of warranty repair, and ask for an estimate for a new motherboard, its a hardware problem

i downgrading with the original shipped rom, but the wifi doesnìt work!!!

So flashing kills the WLAN???
I just dont get it...
Can these people who have wifi problems after upgrade please use mtty and the info 8 command to report if they have any bad blocks in NAND. Info is in the wiki under bootloader commands.
The reason why i ask this is because this has been mentioned in another thread and some discovered that it was due to bad blocks in NAND (ie, flash went horribly bad).
Report your findings

I had a very similar problem with the phone and wifi. In Comm Manager both were switched off, when I clicked on them they would attempt to come on, sometimes for a good 20 seconds then go out again. Sometimes the phone function would switch back on but would then crash the phone.
After numerous hard resets with no luck, my solution was to get Orange to replace it which they did promptly, sorry I can't be of any further help.
BTW. I can't remember the specific cause of it now, but I had not flashed the ROM, everything was standard. I may have been installing new software.

I'm on a Cingular 8525. Updated the SPL, radio, and am currently running WM6 Black Edition. When my 8525 was completely "stock" and running WM5, I noticed that every morning I had to soft reset the device after leaving it charge over-night. Sometimes daily too and just totally random. The phone would "freeze" or be unresponsive, so i had to soft reset it. Not very stable in the "stock" condition. Ok, so after upgrading to WM6, I'm running into almost the same problem. Is this pretty normal? It's annoying, but if this is just one of those things that 'happens', then so-be-it, but I did notice the upgrades have limited the soft resets. Are there known apps that can cause this "problem"? Searching the forums I've seen others with the same or similar problem, but no real definitive "reasons". Any advice on said matter would be MUCH appreciated.
Sincerely,
SFC Fin

What 3rd party apps ahve you installed?? and what stuff is running??
I presume its black v2.0 correct? (if not then upgrade to 2.0)
3rd party apps currently running are as followed:
Wisbar Advance, and WADesktop
Photo Contacts Pro
MagiCall
psshutXP
That's pretty much the only things running. I'm gonna take your advice and update to 2.0
*Question: Are the above mentioned apps that I have currently running known to be "buggy" or to cause this soft-reset problem?
Thanks,
Fin
Almost all SPB software is known to cause one crash or another, remove WAD and WA and see what the effect is??
Besides the black theme is cool looking anyway!
EDIT: upgrade as described in my guide to make sure you have the latest SPL and radio.
Figures! lol The apps I like to skin my device cause problems. Murphy's Law v2.0!
Ok, I'm on radio 1.38, and SPL 1.3Oli Upgradind the SPL wont cause any modifications correct? Also, to re-inforce your statement on "SpB" software, I tried to use SpB Shell last night and it sucked, to be blunt. Once the bugs of 2.0 are worked out in the next few days by the initial "testers" and "CAB" makers, I'll join the masses once again, and just in time for the next upgrade!
Again, thanks for all your help,
Fin
Not Wisbar
I have both Wisbar Advance and Desktop and I don't run into the soft reset problem. I am running WMXL0.20 and everything is running smoothly.

ronfin44,
Do you have your ext rom mounted? I have the problem you describe if I leave my ext rom mounted, but when I unmount it all problem go away and it never needs a reset.
Not sure. Need a point in the right direct as far as EXT ROM MOUNT goes. So is this a good idea?
Also, I have a sync issue, so upgrading to SPL 1.40 is temporarily on hold. It doesn't "settle down" like the guide states. It stays in a constant state of "syncronising", where the green animation keeps on rolling and Active Sync never comes to a final stop. I can upload new apps and delete things still, but I'm cautious to continue with a ROM update if this sync issue could cause me to brick my pants and device.
Fin
You mount the ext rom through HTweaksC, so if you don't remember doing it it isn't done. Sorry I couldn't help.

Actually, you helped by saying that. Since I haven't touched HTweaksC, I'm un-mounted at this time...and damn does that sound gay when you re-read it. hahaha
Ok, so on to this sync issue. I'm gonna upgrade to ActiveSync 4.5 and see if that stops the constant problem before I up my ROM to SPL 1.40
EDIT: ***I'm an Idiot*** Ok, glad I ask so many questions over and over, cause after asking about my sync issues I went BACK into the ActiveSync thread after updating a ROM, and noticed I never made the proper changes. Guess what, all fixed. See, following the guide completely makes less of these annoying posts.

Roger that, I have a 2G card installed. Upgraded to SPL 1.40 also. Fixed sync problems too.
I have had lockup problems just as you describe with bone stock wm5 and nothing on the today whatsoever, but had a card in.
If you dig deep back in the hermes thread, I posted about lockups long ago, and it even came back on my xdalive 0.1 install, but it had been so long ago, I initially forgot how to fix it.
I have yet to determine if it is related to a file name, size, or possibly the ammount/number of files, but I can have my device locking up for days in a row, and then Ill clean out my storage card, and it's everytime I clean the junk out of the root of the card, and put it into folders, all is fine.
Ill even go for a month or so and have a lot of crap in there, and it wont do it..so I could be wrong, but you might give your card a cleaning, or try pullin it for a night, and see if it locks up.
That is if its still doin it...the "fixed activesync too" has me sightly confused...even though you said "roger that"....so Im not 100% sure if you meant its still locking up or not.
I had also freeze, lockup, wakeup and charging overnight issues with the shipped Dopod 838pro WM05 ROM, even after soft reset.
Then i tried to flash with newer Australian WM05 ROM, then it became more stable and i did softreset only once every week.
With WM06 i tried first time to use WM06 with XDA Live! V0.2 ROM, then it became unstabile again. On one hand it solved the charging overnight issue but on the other hand other issues remains there.
The i tried now with LVSW Edition (2007-03-26) ROM, all problem solved now. I have no above mentioned issues any longer. I never do softreset until now since 27-03-2007. I think it is the most stable ROM i ever have. You may try to use this ROM also.
Good Luck!
Seems as microSD card is to Blame
We're investigating the lockups for some time, since also reported with stock ROM. Tests conducted on both Hermes 100 (IMate JasJam), and Hermes 200 (HTC TyTN). Tested with all WM6 ROMs, now on Black2.
Build: 17740.0.2.0
AKU: 0.2.0
CE: 5.2.968
Radio: 1.38.00.10
S/W install status: No SPB s/w, no Today screen PIns, both with Taiwan controller cards (Sandisk and TekQ) and with Japan controller cards (original Toshiba and Kingston 1GB). Only SatNav app on card, no Today PIn, normally closed.
When microSD is in device: once every 12 Hrs. Lockup. LEDs On, no Power On, not getting calls. Long (2 secs) time from pressing power button, to Device Power-On. Only SR to release.
No such problems when micro (any) SD card is out.
If you care to test on your device and report, it will be appreciated. Just take off the mSD for 48 Hrs.

Card seems to be the problem here too... No Card in, no lookups at all... but we have something other folks here certainly don't, on top of all we have a non core level localization environment that may add an unknown to the equation. I'm gonna put back the cards, and suspend the localization to re-test.
As in OMC's, card is one of my usual suspects, but so is the localization,

No lockups here anymore, with EVERYTHING installed to sd..except dialer skins...etc.
To everyone that are finding out it is sd card related, and you find out pulling it helps, I advise to clean out your card, and leave nothing, except folders/directories in the sd card root, I do keep .tsk themes in the root, so they show in settings...so Im not sayin it always has to be clean.
Im not sayin that Im 100% right...and people with lockups might already have empty sd cards...but I can simply move files from my root with resco explorer, and it goes away.
Hopefully this won't be in the invisible font, that I think gets used for my posts sometimes.
I can just add that some time ago when I owned a Wizard it used to freeze when I used Wisbar. Without it, it either didn't freeze at all or rarely, just don't remember. In case of my first Hermes (T-Mobile version) it was the same. Now my new one freezes without it. What I checked was that it usually freezes while charged. If I left it without charging over night I was ok in the morning.

Ok, I know my SD card is a mess, so I'll clean it up, and report back in 24 hrs. I guess I'll report on each step and see if anything fixes the problem, and if a "fix" works, or the SR's become rare, I'll backup one step and see if they re-occur, so atleast we'll know what helps cure this problem, or atleast make it a rare occurrence.

Hey, this is bull**** - can u specify which apps etc? I am using LVSW 20070423 from the first day of release and no problem...
This ROM is pretty damned good - so slow operation is probably something you've got installed.
To go back to your original orange ROM (PRESUMABLY wm5) you first need a copy of the original ROM, then follow Mrvanx's guide.

lol... i know is bull****... prob is when i m tryin to call ... i hear 2 sounds ... and that`s it ... and office give me this error "Program Not Recognised" .. anyway ... now i am with the previous of lvsw rom
Problem during a call I supposed in GSM part, which is indipendent on LVSW's ROM (maybe other causes - 3rd party app, bad A2DP mod etc.) - but primary try new RADIO ROM.
Office works me well - I just try it before a few secs (immediately after HR) and its ok?
I am using phone daily for hard work and no problems, you mentioned.
Some unstability was caused by wrong Page Pool, but I suppose, that it is not your case.
LVSW ROM is very good, I like it compared to others. Try installing a new radio and try a hard reset or reflash it.
Remember LVSW bundles the Radio along with his ROMs, could you please tell us your Radio version??

@mrvanx, LVSW 20070423 is an OS-only distribution. He recommends that Hard-SPL-v7 and Radio 1.41.00.10 be installed beforehand (links provided). A deviation from his previous ROMs.

What do you mean many apps doesn't work? All apps works on mine..IMO, LVSW's rom is the best. There must be something you didn't follow correctly or you installed some bull**** 3rd party apps. I am sorry if that offense you.
LSVW 423 is a great ROM - fast with all the bits I want and none of the bits I don't want, but I'm having issues with hanging on soft resets (about 10%) of the time as well as freezing and not able to resume from suspend. I have had these issues with most if not all the WM6 ROMs and can't figure it out.
Anyone else with similar issues?
Meanwhile orange have released a new WM5 AKU3.3 rom on their business site.
I've had no issues with LVSW 4/23 rom. I use the phone heavly during each day for the office and I never had experienced any issues. LVSV rom is the most stable in my opion. All apps are working as they should.
I only down graded my radio back to 1.40.30.00 cause of stability and the fact 1.41.xx.xx kept dropping my calls between 3G to Edge, not to mention weaker signal. Fact, 1.40.30.00 is I beleive the offical ATT radio release ATM (I might be wrong, something more official may be out).
Did you read the entire forum before flashing? As Johnburn mentioned, LVSW repackaged to OS only and given specific instructions to Hard-SPL-v7 and Radio before the OS only ROM due to issues on the his first post of the full package.
I think you're the only who has bad experience w/ LVSW release and you blamed it on the ROM. way to go.

Anyone else with similar issues?

yep exact same issue right here.
LOVE the roms, hate the fact that I keep freezing in suspend with all wm6 roms.
thought it was my phone till I flashed back to wm5, and its working perfectly again.

What do you have installed??? Also please note if installed programs are on the DEVICE or MEMORY CARD. What today items do you have??? And did you have cabs in the extended ROM??? All of these things will affect the device and could possibility cause it to lock up. Any whos I have no problems with WM6.

to fix the freezing go to:
start-> settings-> today-> items(tab)-> and set the today timeout to 12hr

I always installed EVERYTHING on device memory. Nothing on storage card (even though it worked fine with Wm5 for anything other than Today apps).
I thought it was my applications so I went back to scratch. Even no apps installed and even with SD card removed, it fails to wake up from sleep if anything other than Exchange Activesync tried to use the radio while it was asleep.
Main culprits include IMAP mail sync and weather app syncing. You can verify this by setting sync interval to some ridiculously low value (every 5 minutes) and then watch a sitcom or something. It will be locked by the time it's over. (Hey, I just looked down and whaddya know, my phone is locked again).
There are some files laying around in extended ROM but They are not installed on hard reset. Are you saying they might be interfering nevertheless?
I hear rumors that LSVW 3/23 does not have this problem so I'm going to try that one last time. If I can't resolve it, I'm going back to WM5.

Hmm... seems an unlikely fix. Is this verified to work? What about just unchecking the Today timeout box altogether? I'll give it a try...
EDITED:
I tried the Today timeout fix and it still locks up.
@khammo01
Good to see you have tried to isolate the problem. However you say that a fresh install also locks up. If this is true then the problem is deeper. Have you tried each Cooked ROM? I have and only by preference choose Black2.5. So far the only lock-up I have had came from a today plugin. WHich I should have put on the DEVICE instead of the CARD. At times the Active Sync appears to be sluggish but it is only right as it connects. Then all is well. Verify your download and try again.

I have tried LSVW, Black 2.0, 2.5, Dutty, Custel, you name it. They all have the sleep error.
If I have IMAP or anything enabled that uses the radio when the device is asleep, I get lockups.
Basically I cannot enable anything useful. I'm going to try LSVW 3/23 (pretty much the only ROM I haven't tried) and if that doesn't work, I'm going back to WM5.
I have an XDA IIs recently upgraded to WM6.
I set it up so that after a few mins the password prompt pops up. This stops it from being knocked in my bag etc.
But a few days later and it has decided to change the pass for some reason? And I have no idea what it has set it to.
Is there anyway I can bypass the password screen?
Thanks!
EDIT: If it makes any difference, I guess the battery must've been low, because before the problem happened it had to do a full boot rather than just coming out of standby.

This is a known flaw in WM6. The only solution is to delete the hive. Soft-reset, hold the 2 buttons next to the volume slider until a menu comes up and select yes for the delete hive option. You do not need to format storage, but your registry (hive) will not know about the installed programs so you might choose to format storage as well. If you do both it will just like when you first flashed the ROM and you will have to re-install everything. After doing this do NOT use the built-in password option WM6 gives you, this will happen everytime you remove your battery or it goes dead. There are other locking programs out there that wok instead.
I use S2U2 as do many others to keep the phone "locked" when not in use, it does not use a password, but requires you to slide your finger across the screen to "unlock" it.
Thanks!
That seems to have done the trick.
Bit strange that microsoft haven't bothered patching WM6 to fix this...?
Oh well its sorted now anyways, so thats a relief

It's not been patched by microsoft because it's really not a WM6 problem, it's a 'running a massisvely hack version of WM6 on an old, unsupported device' issue.
Remember, the angel was released some time ago when WM2003 was the latest. These devices were never even considered as an option to run wm6. The fact that Helmi was able to make it run at all is amazing, and really shows just how good he is (I'm assuming Helmi is a male, I've actually never seen anything stating if Helmi has boy or girl wibbly bits ).
yeah...
WM6 really is not made for our BA, there's a thread here regarding your problem.
no sense of saying search first. but im glad someone helped you.
WM6 on our BA? Helmi did miracles to make that happen.
P.S.
actually it's Helmi not Hemli (pardon the correction)
and now that you said that it made me curious too. hmm.... ahaha...

Bah. Thanks for noticing that. Post corrected.
Good evening .
I have been trying to solve a problem that i have with my o2 xda. The problem is that the Bluetooth device is not working, it won’t even start, and I tried to turn it on from the communications manager but nothing. I tried to turn it on from the settings/communications/Bluetooth/turn Bluetooth make it visible to devices, but also nothing.
It turns on when I soft reset the device a few times, than sometimes it comes back on with the Bluetooth on, blue light flashing, but I’m unable to get it to pair with any devices. Sometimes my laptop will pick up the signal for a few seconds, but it is not able to sink with device.
I have tried everything I could think of, even have done some hard resets but nothing.
Someone told me to do an Artemis reset. So I downloaded the 4.02 with cube zip that I found around this website, but since I have never done such a procedure, in fact this is my first time with windows mobile, so I didn’t want to mess it up.
I read in this forums that third party applications can cause sometimes this problems because of driver contamination , my device did have lots of extra apps so that could be the problem .
In any case I’m not an expert, not even close especially with this system, so any help / suggestions / diagnostics / instructions, will be greatly appreciated.
The device is an o2 xda with built in gps, running windows mobile 6.1.
ROM Athemis Touch 4.02 WWe
Rom date : 4/8/8
Radio Version : 03.08.90
Protocol Version : 4.1.13.52
CPU: OMAP850
Speed: 201MHz
Ram: 64MB
Flash Size 128Mb
Data Bus 16bits
Storage size 44.74MB
And if the best solution is to do this artemis reset, i will really appreciate some instructions on how to exactly do this task, and if there is any known issues of this procedure killing the phone? , since sometimes with this types of "resets / flashes” this type of devices sometimes dies! So any help will be appreciated.
Thanks a lot.

Ps. IM STILL A LITTLE AFRAID TO DO IT, SINCE I HAVE NEVER DONE SOMETHING LIKE THIS BEFORE, AND I AM A LITTLE SCARED THAT I WILL SCREW IT UP EVEN MORE!... (DO YOU KNOW IF BY DOING THIS I WILL LOOSE THE WINDOWS MOBILE 6.1 THAT I HAVE NOW LOADED, AND IT DIDN’T CAME ORIGINALLY, ON MY DEVICE ? .. ALSO, MY DEVICE IS UNLOOK FOR ANY CARRIER.. WILL THE RESET HAVE ANY EFFECT WITH THIS?)
MY DEVICE IS GIVING ME NOW EVEN MORE PRBLEMS, IT FREEZES UP, WONT GET A PHONE SIGNAL, AND OVERALL FREEZES, TO THE POINT THAT I HAVE TO SOFT RESET IT TIME AND TIME AGAIN UNTIL IT WORKS… AND EVEN THEM, A SLIGHT MOVE, OR TO MUCH WORK, OR DON’T KNOW WHAT!!! CAUSES IT TO LOOS SIGNAL AGAIN … EVEN THE WIFI IS NOT WORKING PROPERTLY!!. SO I AM NOW REALLY! COMPELL TO DO THIS RESET, BUT
P L E A S E!!! I WILL APPRECIATE ANY ADVICE AND INSTRUCTIONS SO THAT I WONT MESS IT UP EVEN MORE. …
THANKS A LOT.

This should be in the Artemis Forum....
Anyways, don't worry too much about the Bluetooth problem, I had the same issues when I first got my phone (P3300). Once I flashed the ROM there was a significant difference with the phone. I am currently using Tom's Oops black ROM, there are a few small issues (like not seeing the OK button on a pop up window) but nothing serious. In fact I would go as far as to say that a "cooked ROM" is WAY better than the OEM ROM that you have. It was assembled by a user of the phone with speed and usability in mind. If anything these ROM chefs should be approached by the OEMs for advice & suggestions.
Now for the scariest thing ever: Your first ROM Flash. Mine was with the WM6 update so it wasn't as scary as it came direct from HTC. My second Flash was Artemis Touch full 4.0, it wasn't as smooth as I would have liked it to be, I recommend having two seperate copies of the downloaded rom. I had an ROM Error saying the ROM was invalid 6% into installation. All I did was download another copy and try again. It is really that easy. I recommend you download PPC PIM backup and backup before you flash or you will lose all sms's and contacts! Not a fun prospect.
My Artemis has 25mb free RAm and is running stable 247Mhz, this is an extremely good phone especially when considering the price.
Thank you for your advice....
Thanks a lot for your responce... and sorry for mi ignorance when it comes to windows mobile, but this
is mi first time with it.. I had always used symbian, but in any case....
I downloaded the Artemis_Touch_4[1].02_Full_with_4_sided_cube 54.2 MB, but to tell you the trouth, I dont
have the SMALLEST!! idea of how to do it at all!!!??
Should I just install this on my pc, and the instructions on how to do the reset trough the phone
will come on? or should I do something to my phone allow the reset ?
Also, you advice me the oops black room.. thanks for that.. but do you know from where, and what version
should I download? the only link/version I couls find if this : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=401062
I will really appreciate a little extra help...
thanks a lot for your time, and I really hope to hear from you soon. ...

PS/ what about the unlook phone deal? will this wont be affected in my device? since im ussing my device
outside a normal carrier... moviestar, ecuador. .. thanks .
