Quick question about WM6 - HTC Excalibur

does WM6 STANDARD (smartphone edition) supports network browsing as opposed to its predecessor WM5?
thanks

No, it does not, but there are apps that would allow you to do that, like Total Commander.

ok what i meant is if it's ABLE to browse through local network. if OS supports that i can do it with any app. but from ur reply i assume that u have WM6 device and u can browse through network shares is that right?

AT commands and PPC?

Hello All,
Is it possible to send AT commands directly to PPC and If Yes How?
Thanks & Regards,
Usha
Send AT commands from where? From the serial port of an attached computer? In that case, use the Wireless modem feature present in the latest ROMs: the Qtek 4.16.52 ROM, O2 XDA 4.17.03 or our own XDA-developers Special Edition ROM v1.1 (based on O2's 4.17.03 with lots of extras).
Hi
Do you want to have connections both through the gprs and dial-up to an isp from within your stand-alone XDA. In other words using the pocket internet explorer you want choose between GPRS and Dial-Up connection.
GPRS is expensive for large downloads and Dial-Up is expension for extended connections with low activity.
Cheers
Ian Bennetts
Thanks for the replies, but.,
Hello again,
XDA developer Peter Poelman
Yes, I want to send AT commands from the serial port of an attached computer. Will you please elaborate on the wireless modem feature(remember I am new to PPC) and how do I send AT commands such as CSIM, CRSM using Hyper Terminal to XDA?
Ian Bennetts
No Ian, I am not interested in 'having connections through the gprs and dial-up to an isp from within the stand-alone XDA'. As I have mentioned above, I am interested in talking to SIM with AT interface and want to know how its done.
Thanks & Regards,
Usha
Hmmm, talking to the SIM...
First of all: modern ROMs for the XDA come with an application installed in 'Programs' called 'Wireless Modem'. It allows you to 'disconnect' the internal phone application and talk to the modem directly from a connected PC, using either wired RS-232 or infrared. Contrary to the built-in connectivity, this seems to somehow be limited to 9600, as recently reported in another thread here.
But as far as talking to the SIM: I'm not sure whether these commands are implemented, and you'd need to figure out for yourself if the modem will do what you want. I'm not aware of anyone that has talked to the SIM through the Wireless Modem app.
Do let us know how things turn out...
At least on the SPV, I'd say that only restricted SIM commands are exposed through the RIL, which makes the complexity of the call pretty useless (ie we can't do more than what's exported in cellcore, no raw APDU exchanges) - I may be a total newbie at handsets design but I'd have expected (in my dreams) to have SIM1: being a handle to access the card reader and not some virtualization above the RIL
note that I'm not completly satisfied by this and still investigating - I'd really like a full SIM control, I can be satisfied with envelopes for the moment, but the more the better

Network Share

Is there a way with an HTC Dash / Excalibur running WM6 Standard to access network resources on a LAN through the WIFI? I've tried looking for an option in Total Commander, and I installed the Resco Explorer 2007 trial. It seems that Resco's PocketPC version supports mapping drives, but not for the WM6 Standard. I've seen screenshots of what is available in Resco Explorer. That option is omitted for the WM6 Standard version.
I've tried ORB and Soonr. Those seem to be the only methods, but I was hoping for a more native method.
Any suggestions or advice?
Thank you,
Tim
Mapping to Home Network Share
Is this not possible on an HTC S620/S621 ? I would like to be able to map to my network shares. I could then even use Hamachi VPN to connect even if I'm away from home.
But first things first. There seems to be no way to map a drive letter, or even connect via a UNC statement of \\abc\123 ... etc.
So far the only methods I've seen are soonr and orb. I suppose it's a work around, but I was hoping for a more windows native method.
From my research, it seems that those running touch screen / windows mobile professional can do this. If they add Resco Explorer 2007 it has that option. I installed the Windows Smartphone Standard trial version, and the option doesn't exist.
Nor does it exist with Total Commander.
Thank you,
- Tim
Not possible with WM6 Standard Devices?
Haven't received an answer. I've been googling for a response, but everything I've read seem to indicate that the network mapping thing is a real crippling part of these phones.
I've noticed that this seems to be a major difference between WM6 devices with touch screens, therefore running WM6 professional versus the WM6 Standard Devices.
Touchscreen WM6 Devices can map drives, use remote connectivity software, and even have more advance function in pocket office.
Non-touchscreen WM6 devices can't perform drive mappings, or use remote connectivity software like RDP or VNC.
I'd like to be able to map a drive to my network, and transfer files that way, rather than through activesync. I can't understand how I can obtain an IP using my HTC Dash's WIFI over my wireless router, but yet, not connect in any manner to the network that I have shared drives on.
If someone knows of a way, then please let me know.
Thank you,
Tim
no one has ever mapped a drive w/ the excalibur??
i have tried for months...it seems as if the phone is the big proble. it doesnt support netbios from what i have seen. on my network i can ping it by netbios name and everything from the pc end of things..but from the phone i cant see the computer by anything but ip which is fine. but i cannot acces a share or network drive via \\ip.address. no idea how you would create a share on the phone either

Maybe Microsoft's Live Mesh technology will help this. Apparently there will be a client for mobiles and could give you a way to access your files on the go. (I know this doesn't quite answer your question, but maybe helps solve the problem)
See http://channel9.msdn.com/Showpost.aspx?postid=399577 for some details
How to map a network Drive with Built in WM software.
Hey guys. I have to say the solution is so simple it is Genious.
Simply open up internet explorer on your device and type in \\SHARENAME\
IE will translate this into file://\\sharename\ and if it is password protected it will ask you for the user name and password. You will then be sent to Windows File Explorer, and Viola you are surfing your network resources. You can even save them as a favorite for later use.
I hope this helps.
That doesn't seem to do anything?? Did you get this to work in IE for wm6.1?

BB Connect

BB Connect with TMO Dash - repost in the correct forum
Hi All,
I am trying to replace my company issued BB 7520 (Nextel) with a T-mobile Dash. (my personal cell)
-I have downloaded the BB Connect Cab file to the Dash and installed. Ver2.1.2.39
-I have downloaded the BB Connect for Windows Mobileto my desktop and synched the Dash ver 2.1.1.9.
- I synched my Dash, it recognized the new PIN and I created a new encryption key
- I have called Tmo and had them add the BB service to my account.
The Dash is connecting to the TMO BB Network. The identity, Status Services and IT Policy all look OK.
However, I cannot send or receive emails, and my calender is not synching. I have turned off Calender synch in Activesynch. I don't have Activesynch synching anything.
Am I missing something? When I run the BB Connect Desktop for Windows Mobile, I only get panel that looks like the redirector settings on the BB Desktop Manager.
Do I need to run the Desktop Manager when I run the BB Connect for WM?
Thanks in Advance
James
I haven't been able to get BB Connect on my Excaibur afterthe first restart of the device. It does work though if I deselect the radio button for wireless PIM. Anyone know why this (I think the BBconnect service is CICAL) is preventing BBConnect from working?
Help, I am lost now.. I had BB Connect work on my Dash, then I flashed the ROM. I have BB installed and I can receive all my emails no problem, but I can't create new or reply to emails the action is greyed out. Since this is the only way I can email I really need to get this working.
Please help!!
Thanks
I fixed it, I just had to send a service book to my phone and everything works now..

****UPDATE*****
Fixed the mms messages not coming in.
The problem was I selected the blackberry 8100 on my tmobile account so I can add the blackberry and set it up. Once I switched it to the dash. The picture messages come in just fine.
Any one out there that can help with the slow internet problem ?
Was the slow Internet problem ever figured out? I installed BB Connect 4.0 and im noticing the same problem too.

Blackberry Connect using BIS (not BES) on WM6, possible?
I am using a Rogers S621 Excalibur (Carrier, CID, & App unlocked).
On my phone I am running WM6 standard 5.2.1238 (Russian ROM)
On my computer I am running Vista.
I do have a BB Connect data plan on my account.
I have installed the BB Connect software seen here:
http://www.sems.org/entry.asp?ENTRY_ID=228
and here: http://www.sems.org/entry.asp?ENTRY_ID=225
If I try to run the Blackberry Connect Desktop for Windows Mobile it begins to start up and then says "The account is not provisioned properly on the server" and then shuts down. I don't think that is an issue as I believe the desktop client is only for BES.
On my phone when I try to select the BB Connect app and select Register now it says:
Blackberry: Not Connected
Blackberry: Network Available
Blackberry: Data Tunnel Available
Blackberry: Not connected
On the BIS (www.rogers.com/bis) when I select "Change Device" and then enter my PIN & IMEI (found on my phone by selecting Blackberry>Settings>Identity ) it says: "The information you have provided could not be verified. Please check your information and try again".
On my phone when I select Start>Blackberry>Settings>Email Settings it says "Email settings unavailable".
What have I done wrong, or what can I try?
bb connect dont work with wm6...i had it on wm5 but once i updated the rom to wm6 it stopped..happened to all of us.. some ppl got it to work by editing stuff ...but thats jsut too much to go through

What carrier are you on? Rogers?
BES? or BIS?
does this means you are confirming that your S621 is indeed CID & APP unlocked ?? and this is a "software" issue ??
I was starting to get confused with other posts of yours going back & forth not knowing yes or no

What are you talking about? When was I "going back & forth"?
And why are you rolling your eyes at me?
And wasn't it a "software" issue the whole time? It certainly wasn't a hardware issue.

How did you know that the service book transfered to your handset? I did the same but there were no new service books.
BB Connect 4 and WM6
I've just installed BlackBerry Connect 4.0 on my T-Mobile Dash with WM6. It works like a charm...!!!.
Regards.
Pedro.
Hi, in order for the BB connect to work on the Dash you have to have the BB data plan through your carrier. After you install the cab, go to your website where you can manage your device, pick a blackberry as your current device and then you can send the service books. You can also call your company and ask them to send the, just tell em your using a pearl or something. ANy way after that make sure you update the pin and then your good to go. Oh by the way the current US smartphones cant multitask APN's so you will not be able to access the blackberry.net apn for mail and the wap apn for internet at the same time. In order to use the internet you must suspend the bb connect software. I have a .cab for for smartphones which works if you want one. It was designed for the dash, excalibur, etc. It works great.

I am using 2.1.2.39 and I can get the software running, where I seem to have the problem is with the service books. TMO has another PIN and IMIE number and will not let me change it.
I can send a new service book but they are not showing up on the handset.
BB Connect 4.0 not working on WM6
Hi there,
I have my HTC S621 from Rogers with Blackberry plan and recently upgraded to WM6. When loaded with BBC 4.0. It will not connect (works well under WM5). I have seen some ppl say it works and some ppl say it does not work.
Not sure if there is a way to fix it ?
Here is the info of my HTC:
ROM: 1.27.405.1
WM6 CEOS: 5.2.1238 (build 17745.0.2.3)
radio : 4.1.13.44_02.94.90
Thx.
BB Connect question: Is it possible to change (or get a different) PIN?
Long story short, my BIS won't accept my PIN and tech support has no idea why, so changing my PIN or getting a new phone seem to be my only options.

Accessing Computers on LAN through Wifi

I need help accessing my shared folders on my LAN when connected to my router via Wifi.
I can access the internet in IE from my Artemis but cannot access folders on my PC!
I'm sure with my old Alpine (which died and was replaced by O2 with the Artemis) I was able to do this by simply browsing the local IP - I definately could use remote desktop.
I want to be able to open files residing on my PC from my PPC but can't find any apps. When trying to do it in IE I get an error saying "The network path was not found." ( I put \\192.168.11.2\c$ in the browser)
Please can someone tell me what I'm not doing or doing wrong? If it's simply security/authentication configuration I need to sort out, please can someone write me a basic tutorial?
Thanking all in advance,
a desperate PPC enthusiast
Spirit
O2
WM6.1 Artemis
Vanilla 4.01
Try Resco Explorer. It can access to shared folders on PC.
Or try the network plugin from HTC. Is included in almost all ROMs
many thanks guys, I downloaded Resco Explorer... looks good
If anyone else needs the network plugin, I found one thanks to the others advice at
http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-network-folder-plugin-v1-0.html
cheers again for a job well done!

I had a bit of an issue trying to get this working too, but now i have it sorted and i have acces to my entire home network via my Orbit, its great. The best way I find is to make sure you have turned on file and printer sharing , added permission for "Full Control" for "Everyone" on the folder/file you want to share, install the HTC Network Plugin and finally you can use either standard folder (if you make network folder visible using HTC Network Plugin) , or use Resco Explorer (which I recommend as its very good). I have HTC Network plugin and Resco Explorer if ya need them.
I haven't found htc network plugin so if you can make it available, I'm sure it would help me and others with the same requirements.... many, many thanks for your input friend.

n00b help!

Hello,
I'm quite new to the world of PDA. I actually found an old i-mate Pocket PC with WM 2003 in my fathers office and I'm planning to sqeeze as much out of it as possible. I have these questions:
1) Can I upgrade my current WM to (at least) 5? If not, what WM can I upgrade to?
2)I can see that with a network card present in a device I can connect to wireless internet. What freeware would you recomend? (I believe that with current software, I can only connect to 2 previously set networks-home and work, correct?)
Thank you for every help, I'm trying to learn and hopefully I'll be able to help someone else one day!
I know you probably have to answer such questions all the time and that you are fed up with them, but I would really need some help!
I'm not sure about rom updates, but "home" and "work" are not names of networks, but names of network profiles. You could always try pocket boingo for network connectivity freeware.
if you want to know about flash'ing we need more info about what imate it is
and at times if you want the most out of a device speedwise you may not want to upgrade it
as newer os versions demand more of the hardware
