Dash & WM6 is so darn buggy

I love the Dash and I like WM6 but the OS on the phone is a buggy as hell.
I have had many WM phones and apart from the MTeoR this is the buggiest yet.
1) No roaming icon.
2) Memory leaks all over the place - biggest problem.
3) Looping alarm.
4) Auto time zone update does not work correctly.
5) Buggy profiles (patch available).
6) 1 minute after first low battery warning the phone turns off.
7) Favourites don't sync correctly even using latest ActiveSync

The roaming icon is not a WM6 problem, it's the specific customization of the ROM.
Memory leaks aren't a problem if you get rid of the voice dial and MyFaves startup stuff. Also load up a good task manager and kill IE when you're not using it, as it hogs memory and won't ever let it go until you kill it.
Not sure about the low battery thing, but the favorites work fine for me... I'm using Vista though.

All issues I have never had with a WM device before.

You've never had IE take up all of your RAM? It's always done that. IE is a hog.
If you bother to notice, all but the looping alarm (which i suspect is a problem with a 3rd party app not developed by microsoft) are problems caused not by microsoft, but by the people who put together this specific build of wm6. Microsoft has no control over idiots at HTC who don't cook a ROM properly, and leave things out of the default profiles, etc.
I'm 100% sure that the Favorites thing is a problem on your end, or there would be a LOT more people yelling about it than just you.

Schap's 3.60a crash after phone call!!!

it happen to me several times as i finish a phone call and go back to the Today screen but on the left top corner still display the title "phone".and i cant press it to open the start menu when im at the Today screen not even the start key works.try hold down the power button to shut down but no luck.but everything still works at the Today screen (weather,music plug-in etc)
had to soft reset it.anyone have this problem as well?or is it a radio problem?

I use this rom with 1.51 radio till the rom is issued. I never had to soft reset because the rom crashed. The only really annoying issue i had is the bluetooth's one (Time to time, it is impossible to reactivate bluetooth without SR. This is why i do not desactivate it anymore ). We can always argue on choices, taste and colors but this rom is quite stable and fast enough for what i do.
EDIT: BTW check also which applications you have loaded. Did you reinstall a backup done with SPB after coming from another rom? I experienced many problems with that. Even if not pretty, i always reinstall now all my applications after installing a new rom (and i use pimbackup for calendar, contacts,... infos)

I don't agree with that the ROM issue after call. Your deveice may be has some problem. What about bluetooth yes, there is some interesting moment that you select open bluetooth, it doesn't open, as soon as you mark to open you should restart your deveice, then it starts with opened bluetooth. BUt when you are going to turn the bluetooth off there is no problem.
I'm sure, Schap as a great moderator will solve this problems in next generation of his ROMs. The variation 3.60a (has posted), may be 3.60b, then 3.60c may be. Or he will post something interesting like Iphone platform.(I want him to do it)

I have the same problem too, what I have discover is that during the call and the screen is off (either it off automatically after a time or you press the power button) then anytime you power on the screen again in between the call or after the call in a short time the problem tiggered.
the only way you can 'fix' it is to wait until call end then off and on your screen once then the 'start menu' back or wait for an amount of time until the phone lock tigger (that one with number pad)
I said 'fix' (with quote) because this definitely a temporary solution to deal with this problem
hope schaps can get more idea in how to trigger the problem and can fix this soon
other than this issue, the rom is really very great

To the OP,
If you are using a Hermes I suggest you reflash from scratch ie Schaps ver 3.6 rom, then use radio rom version 1.47.10..
Install ALL your applications from scratch, manually. DO NOT restore from a previous backup using, say SPB Backup; that will screw your installation. Make sure all your apps are the latest versions, capable of running under WM6.
Preferably install one app at a time, as you would anyway, then test the phone and make sure it is working before installing another app, and so on.
Don't install a theme changer or other similar software until you are absolutely sure your installation works. Leave the performance parameter settings as they are, ie at default.
If all else fails use the ROM combination in my signature below. Rock solid installation, no problems or crashes.

No BT Issue till now
I use BT also with DrYAR-Bluetooth 1.6 (Whoopy!) No Issues at all either starting or Stopping BT
I'm using It for two days now It's OK
Did I mention that this rom Is even FASTER than the previous 3.5x?

When did this problem start?

I didnt have the bluetooth turn on just using it normally.and all application i install is fresh onto the phone memory.never install any program on the SD card.about the dialer skin i use Schen Kaiser 3G dialer.
Anyone got fix yet?

I've had this same issue for weeks now, ever since the newer ROMs have come out for the official releases (i'll have to track back the build numbers). I had it with Sleuth's last release, the vp3G 3.0 release, and now Schap's 3.60. I've done what other posters have said and hard reset, not loaded any apps, and still have the issue.
I believe I have tracked it down to do with X-button, as that's one of the few apps that is installed without customizations in both Sleuth and vp3G (and I run it in Schap 3.60a). My next step is to run vp3G 3.60 lite, without X-button, and see if that really solves my problem.

As a follow-up, I went to VP3G 3.60.1 install, ran the base install with nothing else installed and still had the problem. Still, the workaround suggested by others (putting the phone in standby and coming out) fixes the issue for me.

Problem with TF3D

Hi all,
First I have to say that I'm over the moon with my new TP2!!
I absolutely love it
Today I started customizing it, and I've got one problem.
No matter what task bar I'm installing, after soft reset TF3D won't start.
It just shows HTC, and nothing happens.
At this moment I have the stock Dutch rom that ships with the TP2.
I installed sdkcerts.
Anyone experiencing the same thing??

I've had the same issue with my UK spec, a reboot often cures it but it is a bit lame when the software wont even start up.
So far this has only happened to me about 3 times but I have been playing with it immensly and have rebooted it about 20 times already whilst cocking up some Shat Nav software.
Still loving it in general though ;-)

I'm having the same problem, rebooting doesn't solve anything.
A hard reset does, but than I have to reinstall everyting.
Manually starting manila.exe is an option, unfortunately than the time isn't updated.
Anybody has a sollution for this?

My solution was:
1. Go to: Start > Settings > first tab and click on Today > Go to Items Tab.
2. Uncheck TouchFLO 3d and click OK.
3. Do step 1 and 2 agian but then Check TouchFLO 3D.
4. Soft reset.
Done

tried that but it didn't work for me.
Just removed TomTom 7 & SPB Backup and now it seems to start up fine....
That's a bit of a shame, because TomTom and backup are very helpfull apps...

ive had similar issues but only when trying to customise manila theme. kept saying launching touchflo but nothing happens and then reverts to saying tap here to launch manila. if any of the programs you are adding or any of the customisations you are making involve messing with manila then you will have issues! once hard spl is out then all these things wont be an issue any more.

same problem here, don't try to change startmenu things (standaard startmenu/small startmenu, extra rows etc).
If I enable the extra program tab the buttons won't work most of the time.
The stability of the TP2 is not so good yet, hope that there will be a fix or update for it or a very good custom rom from a good chef.

I have experienced it twice. I got TF running again by unchecking TF3d in the items screen of the today settings, shutting the TP2 down by pressing the on/of switch some seconds, then restarting ,rechecking TF3D and shutting down once more. This has the same effect as a soft reset, only the system is disconnected longer. So perhaps taking the battery out works as well.

I think this problem is there because TF3D is so much integrated in WM 6.1. So the chance of apps interfering with it is pretty big. I hope with WM 6.5, they remove the big menus's (since they are there already in WM 6.5) and other stuff. Just to get more memmory back, and to make TF3D more compatible with other apps. (still waiting for my TP2)

Error no longer happens
Hi Guys,
I found out that mine was being affected by an old copy of IGO 8 that I was trying to install, since I've upgraded to the new version the TF3D issue has completely vanished.
I noticed that when the TF3D failed it was after a period of low memory or high CPU useage, perhaps using some software that isnt compatible with the TP2 is causing TF3D to screw up.
it's just a theory at the mo... can anyone else share their experiences?

this is the third thread about this subject. I have the same problem. HTC is not aware about this problem and encourages those who HAVE these issues to call them. Calling is free...
please do so in order to get rid if this massive bug!

I have been doing some investigation of my own on this one.
I have SPB Backup installed which reboots my phone every night and found that TF3D would not start. Even after a few reboots it would not start. Removed it tried again still an issue.
Hard reset and still was getting some issues.
After alot of rebooting etc I found that if you have a pin enabled on your SIM card TF3D has issues on startup.
No PIN and all is fine.
With that in mind I have just left the phone lock on for now until a fix is found for the bug by HTC

thought i disabled my PIN and the problem still persists. although i had a "loading..." once. but it didnt load...

I have contacted HTC about this. I am awaiting a reply from them about the issue.

I had the same problem when installing the .cab to remove the bottom curtain. Soft resets, unchecking and checking TouchFlo3D didn't work. I then reinstalled the .cab and the TouchFlo3D also came back.
Perhaps that will work for you too? Try reinstalling the last program after the problems has occured?

I have the same problem, and i did notice that after uninstalling an application it usually works again. The strange this is that it looks like it is not a specific application that I need to uninstall. It could be a cab for a different clock or tab icons or an g-sensor app, or probably any other app.

Hmz, I soft resetted my TP2 and found out that the TF3D again didn't start. Had to re-install the "Bottom Curtain Remover.cab", soft reset and then it started again.
Looks like ahlung has a point in saying that it doesn't look like it's a specific application that needs to be uninstalled / reinstalled.

It can also be affected by file read errors, including files on the SD Card, if you have corrupt files on the SD Card, this can cause TF to not launch and even lock the device.

I also contacted HTC and told them the issue. They suggested me to do a hard reset! If I couldn't think to do it by myself!

WM6.5 update - Feedback & initial impressions

All,
Upgraded my unbranded UK TP2 to WM6.5 yesterday and just re-installed all the apps; here's some initial impressions.
It IS worth doing the hard reset to do the upgrade. First off, you're going to have a nice clean install which is always a good thing; secondly WM6.5 itself is more evolution than revolution; small graphical tweaks, things are 'easier' to stab at with your fingers (the screen seems more forgiving), and text/menu options/e-mails etc are spaced out more to make using the device easier on the run.
Some changes/good things/quirks in WM6.5:
Owner information option is gone from the "settings" menu. Simply activate on the Today Screen, click where it says "Touch here to enter owner information" and you're in the same place. Don't bother messing with a nice clean install with that .cab file doing the rounds on here when you just don't have to.
The honeycomb menu is a personal choice, but it's flexible and clean looking enough to make it easy to navigate around. I've gone from using SPB Menu 2 (as version 3 just did NOT integrate with TF3D and the phone contacts (soft key) option) back to just using the standard WM6.5 menu and Today Screen.
WM6.5 introduces new options to reject calls with a text message - most useful.
WM6.5 introduces a new option to automatically activate the pen notes application when the stylus is removed from the holster during a call. The main reason to remove the stylus is to scribble a phone number down, so this option is again, most welcome.
VOICE DIALLING OVER BLUETOOTH WORKS AGAIN! The feature I missed the most on my TP2 works again. I installed MS Voice Dialler 1.6UK version and with my Jawbone BT headset I'm back to normal operation.
Re-organising the main honeycomb menu is a little painful; rather than a nice "hold and drag" method, you can only "Move To Top" or "Move Down". Putting things into folders and using File Explorer is the order of the day.
The new 'slide to unlock' screen lock is a real boon for not messing up your phone while it's in your holster and avoids installing battery killing 3rd party apps.
FM Radio application is installed as a default. Again, no need for 3rd party hacks or apps.
WiFi reception and throughput speed appears to have been boosted. I certainly get a better reception in my home, in the same locations I used to get slow/juttery video streaming in.
Battery increments - not seen it in 1% as yet, anyone else confirm if it's 1 or 10% increments?
No major application incompatibility problems that I can see as yet.
Run the Rhodium Advanced Config app over the device to ensure fast GPS, A-GPS and the like is tweaked to your convenience and you'll find you can get pretty much everything you want done with a standard configuration, with your normal apps installed on it, rather than hacking and tweaking. As a result the system takes a much smaller memory footprint and everything seems to hang together more smoothly and without slowing the system down.
Hope this helps clear some things up for your normal/power users looking to update their devices. All-in-all I'm really happy with the WM6.5 update. It almost feels like the TP2 was made in the first place for WM6.5 and its just come to life with it, almost as if WM6.1 was a (temporary) necessary retrograde step that HTC didn't want to do...

Looks very promising.
Hope I can install this soon and add some comments. Dutch version however not yet available.

The quick drop down menu from the start button is gone in 6.5/ Is there a decent cab to get it back? I've tried some previously that did not work. One thing I would miss with 6.5. Yeah, I know a petty thing to some, important to me.
I dislike BT so that feature means nothing, don't care for titanium or tf3d, so ms 3.5 is my prefered ui. My tp2 is one of the most finger friendly phones I've had yet even while running 6.1 . I know it always seems to make sense to upgrade to the latest and greatest, but the latest isn't neccessarily the greatest.
Having tried several diff cooked 6.5's on my old tp I may sit this one out for awhile. If you've neve tried 6.5 then by all means one should give it a try. Judge for yourself.

Bluetooth
Does the fact that Voice Dialling now works over BT mean that htc have upgraded the BT stack, ie hopefully gone back to the MS one?

Maybe I'm missing something. It seems that the slide to unlock doesn't lock the hardware buttons. If the phone is in a case or a pocket and a call comes in, it's possible to accidentally press the hardware accept or hang up button. That's a problem that only seems solvable using 3rd party apps.

I'm very satisfied with this 6.5 rom release. It includes basically everything I wanted. The only thing is the Manila 6.5 with the animated today menu that changes as the weather from your localization changes.

even though this official release of winMo 6.5 looks great (installed the french one on an unbranded tp2) :
-i think the colored tf3d look is giving the rhodium a less serious image (too much green in it
-in general, the OS seem to be quite heavy for the device
-there's an obvious problem with the tf3d today clock (which is always giving me exactly 1hour & 2minutes earlier for 2seconds everytime i press the "no" button)
-also i noticed that the wi-fi antenna doesn't automatically reconnect to the selected network after i put the phone out of sleep mode, while the wi-fi antenna stays active on the phone!!?
and seriously guys, i still don't get why they didn't provide tp2 users with manila 2.5, it makes absolutelly no "SENSE"

agreed, it's a bit annoying, it also deactiveates the wi-fi when you soft reset the device... I'm sure there will be a tweak for it soon!

s2u2 still works but the new 'lock' that this version of Windows Mobile is very similar...

I noticed the thing about the clock temporarily showing the time an hour and 2 minutes earlier for about 2 seconds. Can the OP please explain how I can get the owner info screen to enter my details. I cant find anywhere on the today screen where it says 'tap to enter information'

This is a feature of the manila/sense itself to give the effect of the old clocks with the flipping numbers.

never had this with the stock rom, plus it's more than annoying when it happens after using the task manager or locking the device with the "no/end call" button... so it often happens to me and when it does, it's three times in two seconds so thanks to htc guys for making it worst

I think it actually has something to do with the my location thing, but since I can't get that to work properly most of it is just an annoyance. Lol

I've been using the Windows Mobile 6.1 for a while and found a bug that I was expecting to be solved in the 6.5 release but unfortunately no.
When I choose in the weather tab the City of Lisbon, Portugal and update the forecast it corrects me the system time to GMT CASABLANCA instead of using the correct GMT LONDON, DUBLIN.
The Portuguese Time includes changes to the Winter Time and Summer Time, like in UK. To correct that I need to use always as my default city London, not taking use of the function from the new Manila: "My Location".
Can that be corrected in a next release?

Quick and easy - don't bother downloading and installing cabs, this is easier!
Go to Settings -> Today and make sure that in the "Items" tab, the option for "Owner Info" is ticked.
Now go to your today screen. There will be the owner information line - and if you've entered nothing, it'll say "Tap to enter info..." just tap there and enter the info in the control panel that appears.
If you then don't want Owner Info on your today screen (but just wanted to enter a username for app registration etc), then go back into Settings -> Today and untick the Owner Info option.

Touch pro 2 screen not powering off

Hi folks, having a slight issue with my TP2. It is running the preinstalled vodafone rom for the UK. (version 1.14.161.6 (50207) WWE)
Over the last two days it has stopped automatically powering down the screen when not being used. The backlight switches off as normal, but the screen does not shut down until i press the power button. So if I forget, the screen can stay on all night, killing the battery.
Have been into the settings,on the power screen, and checked all 4 boxes are checked for the times to shut off the backlight and screen on both battery and mains power, and they are.
Any ideas? I have not installed any new software so am stumped. Any common causes of this behaviour?

did you change it through the manila settings tab or start/settings/system/power/backlight ? the reason why i ask is because sometimes when you set settings through manila tab settings, the settings dont work. try deactivating manila, then start/settings/system/power/backlight , then reactivate manila. hope that helps. if not im stumped too.

Is manila part of touchflo? If so I don't have it enabled, I just use spb shell on top of winmo 6.1, so yes was using start/settings/power method.
However, not sure if I have hit upon the problem - I use a program called g-alarm (which is one of the best programs ever), and in it's settings there is a way to keep the screen on when the alarm is snoozed. I recently enabled this, and wonder if it might have messed up the os settings somehow.
I tried uninstalling g-alarm last night and it made no difference, but since restoring a backup, and changing the screen-on setting within g-alarm to off the phone is working normally.
I daren't re-enable the setting to test it, just in case the phone gets messed up again for good this time so this might be a total red herring, and perhaps it was just the restore that did the trick (although have restoring before at least 3 or 4 times with no joy). Will report back when I dare to mess again.

cool to here you are back to normal lol. it would have been a major hassle if you had alot of apps, accounts and whatnot to reinstall. i got really pissed at g-alarm one time when it wouldnt stop going off (phantom alarm) so i will never use it again. you might want to find the thread from where you got it and report the bug. maybe someone else has the same problem and the developer came out with a patch or upgrade for it.

Had same problem on 2 phones
I had same problem on 2 phones- Tilt2 and Kaiser (Tilt). Problem was.... Microsoft Live. When mail account set to ..As Arrived... phone doesn't go to sleep and keeps screen on permanently. Battery was empty in half of the day. After I switched to use POP or IMAP mail and stopped using Live, everything became normal and works excellent.

Well, it still happened today, so I think that rules out the g-alarm backlight setting. However, it worked fine most of the time, so intermittent.
Papasha, I think you could be onto something there, I do use MS live. Be a shame to lose the push mail though, but that's the next thing i'll try disabling if it recurs again.
Will try that too fishman if problem comes back, the backlight key is present but the display setting is not. Easily created though.

The problem did start recurring again, so I tried the suggestion to disable the hotmail pushmail (sync items as they arrive) and that has definitely sorted the problem. As a very welcome side effect the phone suffers major slow downs far less now, if at all. I still use livemail but just set it to sync every 60 mins.
