Socket WiFi companion - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam ROM Development

Is anybody using this SW from Socket Communications?
http://www.socketcom.com/support/downloads/wlan/default.asp?Type=WiFi
It makes WiFi usage a breeze but you loose some of the features after a power on/off cycle
Anybody has experience on how to avoid the soft reset to get back all the features?
Let me know!

tomtom Nav5 and high battery consumption with PDA Off

Upgraded from Nav3 to 5 which is working great except that the PDA will not power off automatically with Nav5 running. Also even if I manually switch the PDA off the battery consumption is very high (runs flat overnight). I'm not using bluetooth or WLAN and they are definately off. I don't have any other app's running.
Anyone else have this problem or suggest a workaround?
If I Stop the Nav5 application then power functions as normal but being forgettful it's hard to remember to do this every time!
Of course Tomtom support have been as useless as ever!!
It maybe dumb to suggest, but....
...do you 'Exit Application' when you've finished using TTN5?
If you don't, it will keep polling the Serial Port for your GPS reciever, and thus the handset won't fully 'stand-by' as serial activity will drain power.
I use TTN5, and as long as I exit, I have still got around 2 days out of a battery, with 'careful' usage.
No offence intended at all in this post - just perhaps highlighting the obvious!
R.
You are correct that exiting (ie Stopping) the application resolves the battery drain but I was using TTN3 previously with a serial receiver and that happily shut down when the PDA was off and did not need stopping.
Also with TTN5 running it stops the PDA switching off automatically, I have to switch off with the power switch.
I have an XDA II and M2000. i have the battery drain problem on both. i exit the app like i am supposed to, but when i start the device in the morning it has completely run flat! in the task manager there is nothing running when i put the device in standby...
any further thoughts?
i am using tomtom v5.21 and the latest roms.
Maybe do a scriptlike "shotdown all" before it goes into it's nightsleep
But i don't see a problem in shutting down TTN5 if you don't use it...
I don't even see a problem in switching off the Radio if i'm not listening etc. No pun intended, but if a programm keeps running it's pretty likely it drains the battery. You're just lucky if it doen't...

Keep ON wireless in standby mode

Do you know if it's possible avoid turn-off wireless in stand-by???
I'd like to use VoIP with my Artemis (with hand-free and wireless connection), but it's impossible becouse after 1 minute (my pda is set to turn-off after 1 minute) the phone goes in stand-by mode and plugs off the wireless antenna.
Can I set "Always on" to wireless connection???
as yet i failed to accomplish this. all i can do so far is turn off the monitor to save a bit power. not the same as standby mode at all though.
I've got this tweak from somewhere, I'm not sure (maybe wiki page):
"AUTO DISCONNECT WHEN GPRS IDLE
you can edit the registry key ...
HKey_Local_Machine/Comm/ConnMgr/Planner/Settings/CacheTime
Change from 600 to 60
it will disconnect after connection is idle for 60 seconds ...
There's also another key needed to be set. Otherwise, my PDA still has always on 3G data connection.
HKey_Local_Machine/Comm/ConnMgr/Planner/Settings/SuspendResume
Change from ~GPRS! - Always on
to GPRS_bye_if_device_off - switch off after timeout"
It may help if you make the changes THE OTHER WAY ROUND. For you the desired value in 'HKey_Local_Machine/Comm/ConnMgr/Planner/Settings/SuspendResume' is '~GPRS!' And the cache time value should be set to '0' (as infinite), if it doesn't work, set to a high value (i.e. 3600 - it means 1 hour).
I'm not sure it helps but it's worth to give it a try...
i guess he was talking about WLAN connection, not gprs or 3G. however, i might be wrong.

You are right, sorry. I've just misunderstood the problem, paying not enough attention to the first post...
So the only way is disable auto sandby and swith-off screen?
I thought a way to solve this situation could be keeping active OS during VoIP connection, just to avoid standby...
Its not enabled for a very good reason, it consumes so much power your device would last just a few hours before running out of power.

that is true. however, they could still give us the option
i think the real "problem" is that WLAN needs the OS running to work. the GSM unit is working differently.
Using S2U is a solution for me
Using S2U2 is the only solution for me.

It seems to be what I want, an application that avoid standby mode but preserve battery (setting lcd off, various device option off...)
I'll try it!
Thanks
Skype
I am not sure if this is still relevant, but in skype i think to have seen an option that says: "disable stand by mode when connected to Wlan" or something like that...
however of course the "batteryproblem" will still be there...
Please post your experiences with S2U2 once made, thanks!
Don't mean to "thread jack" but how can I tell the difference between the screen just being off and the phone being in standby mode?
I'm asking because I'm having a problem with my phone when I turn on Flight mode. Usually I turn on flight mode at night or in a meeting but I'm finding that the battery is still draining (rather quickly too) when I'm in flight mode and the device is off all night. If I'm at 40% batt level at 11:00pm and put the phone in Flight mode, by the morning about 6:30am, the battery is down to like 5%! And there are no programs running at all, screen is off, device is untouched all night. So when I saw this thread, I started to wonder if the phone was in really in standby or if the screen was just off.
Is S2U2 the option to keep the WLAN enabled when in standby mode?
I know i can disable going in to standby but would be nice if it can be done without this.
The power drain is most peoples concern but if i'm at work i have it plugged into the power anyway but would like to use one of the WLAN's here that isn't being monitored

Battery charger controler

Hi all, i'm wondering if any one has built and app that controls the battery charger in ppc. What I mean is that on my laptop , it has a built in app that prevents overcharge by removing the power to the battery by software and then applying the charge back on at around 90% (changeable).
Can this be done for a PPC. Within the power options on my HD2, it has a tick which prevent charging when phone is connected to PC via usb, so i'm assuming an app can be built to monitor the connection/charge level and then by software , charge/not-charge by a variable measure..... just a thought... as i work from home and my PPC is constantly on dock , and in 6 months time i'll probably be needing a new battery due to over/constant charge
Thanks in anticipation ....

Here's my workaround for the annoying WiFi battery drain bug on CM10.1

This is no longer needed! The bug is fixed with the new quattrimus and the Wind kernels... and probably an upcoming official one as well. 3-30-13
This is for those of you on CM10.1 (or ROMs based on it) who use wifi and need a way to work around the Wifi battery draining bug. If you didn't know, the wifi bug will cause your device to lose power at at rate of 6-10% per hour while just sitting idle with wifi turned on. This is aggravating for those of us who use wifi a lot and are used to just leaving it on because normally wifi uses LESS power than other connections!
I was formerly using DS Battery Saver or Green Power to toggle my connections, but I like the following method better because it is a bit smarter (you'll see what I mean). Also, sometimes those connection toggler apps would screw up my autosyncing and messages wouldn't show up for hours.
I tried the wifi timeout hack, which kind of sucked because wifi still stayed on in areas with no wifi.
After trying a ton of apps and combinations of apps, I've found a solution that works pretty well. Here it is:
1) Install the app "Better Wifi On/Off" by Sven Knispel
2) Open it up and hit the settings button. Put a check on "Expert Mode", then back out of the settings and go back in.
3) Place check marks next to the following settings options only:
- Enable when user turns wifi on
- Start on boot
- On when screen unlocked
- On when plugged in
- Only if connected
- If wakelock is held
- If network activity
- If plugged in
- Off when unplugged
- Off when screen off
4) Now find the option marked 'Delay - Time to wait before checking Wifi status' and set it to 10s. 0s may also work well, but I haven't tested it.
5) Profit.
*If you have problems with the program stopping, you can go back into Settings and put a check on 'Run as foreground service'.
**The program has a widget you can add to a homescreen so you can quickly disable/enable it if you have to.
With this setup, Wifi simply turns on when I need it and automatically turns off when I don't. It checks for traffic and won't kill the connection until your download or stream is done. It checks for access points, and if there are none available it turns wifi off... something that DSBS and other similar apps don't do all that well.
I'm getting battery life similar to if I had DSBS, Juice Defender or Green Power running- but I never lose autosync and nothing is ever delayed, because mobile data never turns off. I tested my hotspot function and it worked just fine with no interference.
Hope this helps until (if) we ever get a real fix for the wifi drain bug.
I'm not sure if I had something set wrong or it was an interaction with another program or something else, but I tried it and it locked up my phone hard. Not even the buttons light or feedback goes off but no screen. Had to use the hold power to reset.
I hope they're able to get the power issues taken care of in CM10. With the newer nightlies and the wind kernel it's honestly about as stable as CM9 for me. Power usage is my only major issue now.

Yeah it must have been something else at play- the above app doesn't really do anything unusual that would cause a hang. It's been doing well for me today- I've been using my phone pretty steady since 7am and I'm at 40% battery (now almost 4pm). I'm currently on miroslav_mm's CM10.1 build.

Modded Firmware/Webui for ZTE MF673?

Hello guys,
I was wondering whether anyone here know about any modded firmware or WebUI for ZTE MF673 (Hardware Version:M01).
Currently I have the stock firmware and it has several issues.
1) The battery drains to low levels even when the device is connected to a 2A power supply while using. The ability to use it without a battery may also be helpful.
2) The WiFi automatically disconnects sometimes.
3) There is no mobile data auto disconnect feature. I have seen devices with automatic data disconnect after 5/10/15 minutes etc.
Thanks!
