Relinking Software to new ROM? - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

I have freshly installed WM6 on my Wizard. everything works fine.
I can even start programs that are installed on the Storage Card, by looking for the .exe on the Storage Card.
- How can i make a shortcut for these Programs in my "Programs"-folder so that i can access them from the Start menu, or even uninstall them?
This would be very nice to know because i dont want to reinstall all my software each time i install a new ROM.
thanks for your advice.

all shorcuts in \windows\start menu\programs are display'd
you can make shortcuts using total commander

hey thanks alot! This Forum Rocks because of people like you! Quick and helpful!

Intresting that - out of curiousity and future use,can you make shortcuts using other editors like PHMRegEdit which I have and use please?

hi, I had the same issue but you can go to the directory using the built in file explorer and click and hold, there is now an option to send shortcut to programs which is really handy.

Easy Guide to Creating Shortcuts .vanilla wm6

Im running the Vanilla wm6 ROM still on my TyTN and its working great, im not changing to the XDA or other ROMS out. i dont like not having the Word, Excell, and Powerpoint programs in my PROGRAMS.
can someone guide me an easy way to locate them and create the shortcut for them so they are there when i go to PRoGRAMS?
thanks in advance
Go to File Explorer. It should default in your My Documents folder. Click Up once to "My Device." Click Windows. Click Start Menu.
Now you'll see the Start Menu you get when you click Start, along with the Programs and Settings Folders. Click Programs. Click Office. Click and Hold the program of your choice. Choose Copy. Click Up. Now you're back in the Programs Folder. Click Menu-> Edit-> Paste Shortcut.
Repeat this process to copy shortcuts to your Programs folder or your Start menu. (by going up one more level.)
there is no Office in Windows>Start Menu>Programs....
the office apps are located in the windows folder of the vanilla version,
to make shortcuts open file explorer and go to the windows folder, find the office apps (like pworc) copy the app, goto windows/startup/programs click paste shortcut for each one
if this does not makes sense, then read the whole vanilla thread, someone created a cab folder to install the shortcuts for you.
how is this creating shortcuts? looks like you guys are just coping exe files. i'm interesting in creating actual shortcuts. does anyone know if this is possible?

Yes ... eagle just told you how to do it, either that or use the cab file in the wm6 vanilla thread which will do this for you.
Choose "paste shortcut" instead of "paste" to get the shortcut instead of a copy of the exe file.

Adding programs installed on storage card to touchflo 3d programs?

Hi guys...
I have several programs installed onto my 8gb storage card..like Tomtom and Need 4 Speed...however they do NOT show up in the Programs menu or even in the all programs menu...
The only way i can launch the apps is by going to file explorer, navigating to them and then executing the files...
is there an easier way to creat a shortcut or something? So that they show up in the programs list in touch flo???

you need to create a shortcut to these apps and then place the shortcut in \windows\start menu\programs folder
Thanks man worked like a charm!!! Finally got Tomtom in my programs list

adding program file manually to start menu

Hi all,
I installed the navigon 1 month trial, I have it on my SD card and it runs from there (I browse to it using Total Commander). It wasn't installed using a .cab or something, just copied to the SD card.
I want to add it to the programs menu (start) but it is not on 'add program' list, most likely due to not being really installed.
Is there any way to add it manually?
thanks in advance
Go into File Explorer, find the executable, copy it, then paste a shortcut in the Windows\Start Menu folder.
this worked more or less like a charm, thanks a lot!

[Q] replacing a deleted icon in start menu

Hi all
after some great advice from miami_son I have managed to sort out the mess that was my programs start up page.
sadly i also managed to delete the link file for the file explorer program
try as i might (and being very thick) i cant get it back.
can anyone point me in the direction (or tell me how to do it) to get the file link back
many thanks in advance
Use Total Commander to locate fexplore.exe in the \windows directory and select it with a single click. Click on file in lower left corner of Total Commander to bring up the menu. Click on >>>>>> and then click on create shortcut. Use the tree function to place the file in \windows\startmenu\programs.
Follow Kevin's instructions, works for any .exe file you want to create a shortcut for. But I would just skip creating one for that particular file. For one, Total Commander is a much better file explorer and can do more, and the OEM file explorer can cause you to delete things by accident if you aren't real careful.

I'm not sure, but I think that many programs use the file explorer to open files, rather than opening it themselves. Or at least this appears to be the case.

He didn't delete the program, just the shortcut for it. Once you have Total Commander installed you no longer need the stock shortcut. Like I said, TC is a much better file explorer.
You guys are just brilliant!!!!
Thanks so very much
was on the verge of hard resetting the device to start again!!
thanks again

The shortcuts (*.lnk files) are located in \Windows\Start Menu\Programs.
The icons for the programs are located (normally) in \Windows.
thanks so how do i delete them?
sorry i know i am being thick

Any file browser application on the device. File Explorer is on every ROM. You could even do it from your PC if you rather.
Install Total Commander. Unzip file, connect device to PC, run the EXE file.
thanks miami son
am i correct in thinking ( from the advice you gave me about a year ago) that you cant actually delete the program but you can delete the icon file (png?)
thanks all

It sounds like you're just trying to remove some links from your start menu. Is that correct? If it is, then just navigate to \Windows\Start Menu\Programs and delete the ones you don't want to appear in the Start Menu. In File Explorer, tap and hold on the one you want to delete until the menu pops up. Select delete and then tap yes. In Total Commander, do the exact same thing. I don't think I can explain that better without making a video of it.
well i would like to delete the progs but I was under the impression that they were installed on the rom and, as such, they cannot be deleted
(certainly when you delete the icon and then do a hard reset the icon re appears)
i will try to combine (my bad) memory and the instructions and see where i can go
thanks all

You can't uninstall apps that are cooked into the ROM whether you use stock or custom ROMs. Deleting the link files as I've instructed will prevent them from showing up in your start menu. If you hard reset, they will be right back where they started.
Thanks for all your help guys
i can start to sort out the phone now
thanks again

[Q] Adding new programs from .cab files into Start Menu folders?

Hello, I just had a question about adding new programs on my Rhodium. Whenever I install a new program over active sync, or through a .cab file, it places the link to the program (the icon) right in my start menu (Using a Rom that has WM 6.5 with the new start page)
But, in my start page, there are folders like "Internet," "Tools," and "Multimedia" that I would like to add my new programs into. For example, I want my Slacker Radio app I just installed to show up in the Multimedia folder instead of just thrown at the end of my start menu.
I was wondering if there's any tweaks or anything to get my new programs to be installed to one of these folders instead of just the start menu.
You can use Total Commander or JSPA Program Manager to move the shortcuts to the desired folder. JSPA is the easiest to use and is free.
