Aaahhhhhhhhhhh
Can anyone help please?
I am running a PDA2K with i-mate 1.4 roms and radio 1.13.
Sometimes after a telephone call my GPRS fails to connect.
As I have Smartner push email on my phone this is a REAL pain and means I need to reset my device in order to re-establish GPRS and hence email.
THIS HAPPNES 4-8 TIMES A DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Any ideas for a fix out there please?
Cheers.
Robin
I've got this problem too. But i don't know how to make it work correctly!
Every time i need to reconnect the GPRS.
And i realy doesn't like it!!!
Try this chaps. I have applied the registry tweak and now I keep GPRS on all the time.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\ConnMgr\Providers\{7C4B7A38-5FF7-4bc1-80F6-5DA7870BB1AA}\Connections\(GPRS connection name)\AlwaysOn
Just change it from 0 to 1.
(GPRS connection name) is, of course, the name of your GPRS connection, and I'm not sure if that GUID is the same on
every machine or not, but I only had about 5 GUIDs under Providers, so it shouldn't be too hard to find.

Okay.
HOW do I make this change please?
I have no idea how to do it?
Cheers.
Robin
Dude you need a PPC registry editor. I use EdReg.
Very similar to a normal windows registry editor.
Fatzzz
I have found something like that there: HKCU\Software\Microsoft\ConnMgr\Providers\{7C4B7A38-5FF7-4bc1-80F6-5DA7870BB1AA}\Connections\Providers\(GPRS Connevtion name)
But there is no key named "Always on"!!...
Well you have got further than I have.
I download PHM Registry Edit.
I opened KKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE then Comm and the only 2 options that start with a C under there are:-
Cellular Line and CXPort?????????
Is it something I am doing wrong????

Try ConnMgr!
NOPE.
Nothing.
Now I am getting really worried.
Either I am doing something very wrong or some of my setup is shot to peices.
And yet apart from this disconnect issue the phone is working fine!!!!!!
Robin
Okay.
It DOES help to check one of the check boxes asking for the kind of data I am looking for............. Dohhhhh
Well I found it under Microsoft.
I Have the following:-
Vodafone Internet
Vodafone MMS
Vodafone WAP and
Vodafone WAP CSD
NOTHING that says GPRS?
Any more ideas?

GPRS problem
From another post someone indicated that in the new rom build its a problem with the caller ID program, and that downgrading this will help the issue:
Here is a step by step instruction:
1. Download the older version of caller-id from:
ftp://xda:[email protected]/BlueAngel/CAB_Files/Caller ID/IA_CallerID_1.20_WWE.CAB
and transfer it over to your device. Any directory is OK. I used ActiveSync to put it into the My Documents folder.
2. Remove the file IA_CD-Startup.exe from \Windows\Startup on your device.
3. Rename iacontacts.dll to something else (e.g. old-iacontacts.dll). This file is in the \Windows directory of your device but is hidden. However you can rename it using your PC. Open Windows explorer, and navigate to Mobile Device>My PocketPC>Windows.
4. Rename displayCID.dll to something else (e.g. old-displayCID.dll). Access it via your PC the same as for the previous step.
5. Soft reset
6. Run the CAB file on the device - just tap on it.
7. Soft reset.
That should do it.
Hope that helps someone, I have downgraded to the 1.22 rom which does not have this issue, but I am considering trying to upgrade to 1.40 and try this as a workaround to the gprs not able to reconnect issue, except after a soft reset or flight mode on/off cycle...
Many thanks.
I am off on holiday tomorrow so don't want to do anything that I cannot repare very quickly in case I have no phone while I am away.
I will give this a try on my return.
If anyone else tries this and is succesful please let us know.
Cheers.

GPRS Problems and caller Display
I too have been having problems with GPRS connecting once and then not again until a soft-reset or turning the phone off - on top of which caller display was slow and would often hang. (This is on an Alpine) I have succesfully downgraded the caller-id app and the GPRS problems have completely disappeared - on top of which, the app responds quicker, does not hang at all, and responds quicker on an incoming call. All in all, a result!
One note of caution - I had a password on my machine, and after renaming the files and doing a soft reset (as per instructions above) my Alpine would not restart. I had to to a hard reset! if you have a password on yr machine, disable it before you do the downgrade. The GPRS issue was really my only problem with my XDA, and now I'm a happy bunny.
Im just had to install this. Will see if it will be ok. I'll let you know.
I installed yesterday.
Seems to be working a treat.
EXCELLENT.
Many thanks for all the help.

Hi,
On Universal WM5 AKU 3 versions, and WM6 the little G icon in the upper left corner of signal strength icon is not correctly displayed.
G is displayed instead of 3G when Universal is connected to the internet via 3G.
So my current toy is to fix this
Helmi talked about RSSI_Icons.dll on an other forum. ( Thanks )
RSSI_Icons.dll is responsible for radio signal strength and big data icon displaying.
I have written a new RSSI_Icons.dll.
It's a very first version, so it may contain bugs.
And unfortunately I don't have possibility to test it under different network conditions. It's working in my room(3G), and it's working If I try it on G network. But who knows
So anybody who likes can try it and report any bugs here. Thanks!
Install :
- unzip RSSI_Icons.zip and copy RSSI_Icons.dll to Universal's Windows directory
- soft reset
Uninstall:
- rename RSSI_Icons.dll to RSSI_Icon.dll for example
- soft reset
- After soft reset you will see original RSSI_Icons.dll because it's in ROM
- delete RSSI_Icon.dll
See the attached screenshots with the new RSSI_Icons.dll
First pic:
Universal is esablishing connection to the internet on 3G network.
Animated arrows, and little 3G icon!
Second Pic:
Universal is connected to the internet via 3G.
Notice little 3G icon
Version 2 (RSSI_IconsV2.zip)
---------------------------------
- Fixed small memory leak bug and slightly modified conditions
- Before installing uninstall previous version
I will leave previous version here if somebody have problem with V2.

Have tried it on O2 in London and seems to work fine. Couldn't get a 3G connection at first but I suspect that that was probably down to the weather at the time! Now I have a 3G connection, it seems to swap icons happily when I go from 3G to GPRS. Thanks for curing that annoying niggle!
Ok..work perfectly!
Installed... Nice tweak, congrats!

I niticed that I no longer was able to activate wifi with your dll. The option is not there and wifi would not activate in the com manager.

It's not my dll's fault. Maybe one program that was installed before.
I use wifi every day and I can activate it from the big G/3G icon and from Comm Manager.
And I'm using my own RSSI_Icons.dll of course

Hi is there a way of converting the large G/U icon to say 3G instead of U??
If you understand me. When connected to umts it says U but the small icons now say 3g. Hmmmmmm confusing.
Not working
Hello all,
Tried this in a i-amte JasJar, with Helmi's WM Aku 3.2, and did not get the little U, altough I was for sure conected in UMTS mode.
In fact, the only diference I could see, is that the normal, big U, dissapeared, and now it shows only big G, no matter wath kind of phone connection I get.
Any ideas?
TIA

I don't have this error because I'm Using Helmi WM6 1.1.
It seems that your OS didn't load my RSSI_Icons.dll at all.
The factory default RSSI_Icons.dll is only responsible for big U, and when you overwrite it with mine and your OS doesn't like it, you will only see big G.
The question is why..
Do you see warning bubbles when you run unsigned exe/dlls ?

Yes, I understand.
It's strange because big 3G icon is included in my RSSI_Icons.dll.
Windows should call the exported LoadOemDataIcon and LoadOemDataIcon should do LoadIcon for big 3G if HKLM\System\OEM_State\RSSI, CSAF value is 16. Can you check this registry value ?
If it's present, then something other is the problem.
Maybe windows doesn't call at all LoadOemDataIcon on your OS.
I don't know
But if you like drawing you can use a resource editor to change small 3Gs to Us. That's my last idea, but it must work
Hi,
I've been using this since it came out, both V1 and V2, however, I've noticed a problem with it, I think.
I don't get the text and mail notification icons in the top bar (possibly voicemail too), and when there are multiple notifications (when you get the speech bubble) then the lower bar is always empty.
I can't say all of these symptoms are due to this DLL, but the text icon definately seems to be.
For info, I'm using Helmi's v1.1 Crossbow.
Cheers,
Steve.

I noticed on mine, I don't have the small bubble notification on top like on AKU 2 ROMs, but it was replaced by a big bubble notification showing how much I was charged with an OK button. A temporary mail icon appeared for 5 seconds followed by a left soft key notification, which I setup from settings. I also have the flashing orange light setup with sounds. So I think we have a lot of options here to remind us that there is a message.
I forgot to mention, I am using PDAViet's ROM.
I'm definately missing some of the icons on the top bar - they have returned now I've uninstalled.
Cheers,
Steve.

Back when I had the base Cingular WM5 rom on my phone I was able to talk on the phone and have my data connection going at the same time. Since upgrading to WM6, XDA Live .20 and Black 2.0 I have not been able to get that feature back. To make a call it has to disconnect me. Then once I get off the phone call the data connection connects again. I tried the Allways On option in HTweakC that came with the WM6 releases but that doesn't appear to be what I am looking for. Does anyone else notice this or have a fix?
My device maintains a data connection whilst I am on voice calls. I receive emails fine whilst talking. Its on Black 2.0

yes.. try your phone and data in a 3G area... voice and data only works in 3G not edge......
I have tried it in a 3G area, right by my work I have 4 bars of 3G. But everytime I try to call or get a call it always closes the data connection.
try using bandswitch and manually fixing the phone to 3G only.. just to make sure its really on 3G and not secretly on Edge..
When I select the WCDMA Network I get the 3G Icon, when I select the GSM Network I get the E Icon. So I think it knows the difference between 3G and E just fine. I leave the "band" setting set to Auto.
BTW I am using radio rom 1.38.00.10 now, but even when I had the factory 1.16.00.00 I still had this problem with WM6. It only seemed to work with WM5. Another strange thing, in the phone app it says UMTS Cingular, just another sign it is actually using UMTS (3G).
Its just so annoying if I am online doing anything, slingbox, browsing the web, then when I want to make a call, it usually fails the first time while it disconnects then it goes through
Another odd thing probably just part of the new radio rom, when online and it starts to load data it switches to an H icon, I guess for HPDSA or whatever that abbreviation is.
Are you sure its really closing the data connection? Ignore the icons. Send yourself some emails and see if they arrive whilst on voicecall.

i was saying to do this as a test, just to make sure the phone wasnt doing something funny... just some basic troubleshooting to help find the problem...
kinda like if your car wont start.. there are different problems that could cause it, maybe its out of gas, maybe the fuel filter is clogged, maybe the battery is dead.. different things can cause similiar problems, its better to eliminate all possibilities
I tested it this morning, data and voice works fine at the same time. Called voicemail and then opened up IE and was able to load several pages while on the call.
Edit, where are you located? Is it possible there is a problem with the network there? Try downgrading back to the Cingular software and see if that works.
Shogunmark, I figured thats what you were getting at, and I tried all the options I could that would give me a connection to the network, but I still couldn't do data and telephone at the same time. Everytime I was connected online then went to place a data call it would have to disconnect me first. I tried doing a phone call then connecting online, but nothing would load.
I guess I could try going back to WM5, but I have hard spl 1.4 on so I gotta do a little rom editing of the cingular rom to get WM5 back I guess. didn't realize it was that complicated to go back to factory after installing hard spl.
Im surprised no one else has this issue. Its been like this for me pretty much as long as I have had WM6, so I doubt its the cingular network.

not at all, just drop a WM5 NBH into a folder with CustomRUU and use autodetect. it'll flash quite happily
How would I take the HTC Cingular rom (found here, http://www.america.htc.com/support/8525/software-downloads.html) and get the WM5 NBH? Or will I have to use another WM5 version?
Just chiming in to say I don't have this problem and I've used both those roms and still using WMXL 0.20 now and use data and calling all the time. I am using the same radio ROM as you now too and it still works ok.
What apps do you have installed? anything that would end the data connection for some reason? Maybe put a list of apps and customisations you've made since installing the WM6 rom you have?
You could also try it with a blank WM6 rom, manually add the data connection settings and try and see if that works? Just to eliminate 3rd party apps and thing's you've changed.
The only other similar thing i can think of is I do remember there was an issue where data would disconnect when changing between 3G and EDGE. I don't remember who had this problem or why but it could be related.
Let us know how it goes?

Use this guide to go back to the Cingular ROM.
http://www.mrvanx.myzen.co.uk/hermes_guide/Downgrade/index.html
Here are the apps I have
Resco File Explorer
Core Media Player
Slingbox
Don't run to many apps on my ppc as you can see. I mainly just use it to stream media from home (orb, slingbox), and internet connection sharing. I'll probably find some time tonight to revert back to WM5 and let you know what I find.
Well I just flashed back to the cingular rom, and guess what it's working again, can talk on the phone and be on the internet at the same time. So weird. well I guess I will try going back to Black 2.0 and see what happens.
Kanos,
Your problem is definitely not WM6. As in WM5, I can concurrently browse the internet during a voice call. As Mark said, there may be other issues specific to your case -- you'll have to methodically eliminate one-by-one... you'll have to decide if the process is really worth the time yourself.
FWIW:
Radio 1.34
HERMES 200 HT625 (in use since 7/4/2006)
Network: Manual (Taiwan UMTS)
Band: Auto/GSM(900+1800)+UMTS(2100)
Cheers
I believe it's not truly a problem with WM6, as people obviously have gotten it to work. I will definitely look into it more and keep you all updated on what I find. Right now I am still on WM5 but I will flash back to WM6, no apps installed, right after a fresh hard reset and see if it works or not for me.
I decided to try LVSW this time. Guess what it worked, I was able to both data and phone at the same time. Next test will be to install Black 2.0 again and see what happens.
My theory is this, I had XDALive .10 and maybe that version had this issue, then when I upgraded to .20 it carried over somehow and then carried over to black 2.0. Then once I went back to WM5 it reset everything. Don't ask me how, but obviously I have a lot more flashing to do to test this theory.
the imate site on wm5 proclaim this as a problem. when u r receiving data at a specific point in time u cannot receive a call.
the aust. telstra latest release says the upgrade fixes this.
to bypass going back to wm5 i just used the xda radio only upgrade to try and bypass. this was i believe only when receiving data and a call inwards simultaneously.
otherwise i have never had ur problem n likely a flash issue.
there is another i have noticed in recent releases is activesync now asks to allow data to be received when activesync this is a 4.5 change so perhaps looking for this setting may also help ur simultaneous data issue. just a guess but it might have been easy to not allow this when u upgraded to wmg which rwquired 4.5 to do this.
anyway goodluck with it.
Anyone know how to turn the GPRS off so that it never comes on?
What you need is this ......... creates an icon called No Data, with it you can toggle on and off your GPRS, I've been using for a while and it is excellent, stops GPRS connections altogether until you want it...
Activesync it somewhere on your orbit and then click on it within File Explorer
Ah! Stew! Saviour! A million thanks... exactly what I was looking for...
Why?

Why turn GPS totally off? does it use more battery when your not using it?

Hi there MicTh...
I'm with O2 and their data tarrifs are somewhat expensive.

This can be done easily by:
Settings->Connections->Connections->Advanced->Select Networks->(in the first ComboBox) select "My Work Network" and click OK
No GPRS does it much simpler, simply toggling between on and off....GPRS can sometimes connect on demand, the phones demand not yours when receiving messages or when Quick GOS has become outdated, NO GPRS is the simplest solution I've found.......

thanks for your help ive got it sorted
now ive installed it and i click on the nodata icon it shows gprs as deactivated but if im usin wifii it says connecting to gprs is that normal or have i done something wrong.
also if it says connecting to gprs while nodata is installed does it still run up the bill, orbit is all new to me so im still trying to find my way around it im used to normal phone.
Hi,
just a question on this wifi-gprs. Is there a way to include a priority on one of the two?
I would like my phone to connect through wifi is it finds free or known connections, otherwise it should use wifi.
Anybody know of a setting to get this done?
Patrick
I have a Hermes and I can stop my GPRS connection instantly.
Please try this (also on other HTC models)...
When you still have a GPRS connection press and hold down the hangup button for 3 to 6 secs. (the red phone you use the end a phonecall) until the little GPRS icon disappears.
GPRS as a service will stay available.
Hi.
I'm sorry but I am having a noobie moment.
I have transferred the 3 NOGPRS files into My Music (cos I couldn't think of anywhere else to put it) and clicked on the "setup" file which opens revealing lines of code. But that's it, how do I install it? Where do I find the icon?
Sorry, this might seem basic to you but it is very complicated and difficult to understand for me.

Hey!
So I upgraded to WM6 using Schapps' rom. So far so good, but I am really missing my connect / disconnect options from WM5 in the Today icons at the top of the screen. All they give me now is an option to go to the wireless manager.
How do I restore this much needed functionality? For example, when I launch IE or Opera by 3G / GPRS and then close the browser, I stay connected (with a little timer in the bubble). How come this no longer auto-disconnects? Also there is no option to force a disconnection from within the bubble.
Use shadowmite's tweak tool, this is a reg hack.
http://shadowmite.com/wiki/index.php/HTCustom
Hi, thanks for that, but I've got Schapps' Advanced Configuration tool in his ROM, which appears to closely resemble this. But there is nothing about the wifi balloon, nor is there anything about making 3G / GPRS auto-disconnecting. The "3G and GPRS disconnect and timer" option doesn't seem to work.
Edit: I don't really understand; why are reg hacks even needed to restore functionality that was in the previous version of WM? It seems like things are going backwards!!!

Those functions were unlocked using the exact same reg hack by carriers. They are disabled by default on all ROMs afaik.
Hi, I'll give the tweak tool a go once I get home. However I certainly did not have a countdown timer for 3G / GPRS when I had WM5. Is there no way to have an auto-disconnnect?
Also the tweak tool doesn't mention anything about the wifi balloon?
I know it's bad form to reply to one's own post, but just to crystallise this:
Why has my Wifi and 3G "Connnect / Disconnect" options in the icons at the top of the today screen (on the title bar), been replaced with a link saying, "wireless manager"?
And how do I get them back?
Okay looks like I may have found a solution. Please tell me the below is possible in WM6?

- but, I don´t know exactly why - for me it´s not working on Schaps c version - but could be only a problem of the german release.
Let me know if it works for you...
I changed back to Elf´s rom - this is the on that satisfies me most until now, btw. the bubblefix works prfectly on that one.
