UserAgent problems with Planet3 + helmi_c ROMs - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro Software Upgrading

Hey there!
I have installed Some of helmi_c ROMs (AKU 3.5 beta 13, WM6) and I'm always facing the same problems with the UserAgent. The first thing I noticed was that if I create a new connection (Celularline 3G) and I connect to the Internet I don't see a "3G" connection symbol in the taskbar but only a "G". This wasn't so with my last ROM (German 1.30.96)
Now to the main problem:
My cellular network provider in Austria is "Three". To get to their mobile internet zone called "Planet3" I have to change the UserAgent Default="Nokia6680" so the server thinks I am this cell phone and then I can watch the content. This works with all ROMs I found at the FTP server, except those from helmi_c (those I've tested). I also tried a ROM from Ivan (AKU 3.2) and this worked.
Now I want to switch to WM6 but it doesn't work.
I hope you guys can help me!
Best regards
Tom

The answer to the first problem is simple - almost all of the AKU 3.5 / WM6 ROMs on this site specifically say that they don't support the change of that little icon from G to 3G and vice versa. You should see the main icon change from G to 3G, though.
Have you tried this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=293375

Hello again!
Thanks for your help, I also found this thread and copied the dll file, now it shows the right icon... But this was only a side effect of the main problem.
I installed Netfront, and when I change the UserAgent in the program itself it works perfectly. So it must be a problem of PIE. You might ask, why I don't use Netfront overall? Well, the answer is simple, Netfront doesn't support to open a rtsp stream in the Streaming Player, and I want to watch the videos and TV programs on my Qtek.
So please helmi_c or someone else, help me to solve my problem!
I think this doesn't only affect me, but many others too.
Best regards
Tom

I'd be interested in the solution to the UserAgent problem too, if for no other reason than to make Google give me the standard page, rather than the PDA version.
Pocket IE in Crossbow with MultiIE installed is now my browser of choice over Opera 8.6, but it is a bit of a pain that I can't seem to change the UserAgent, despite altering a number of settings in the registry.
Cheers,
Steve

Can't help with the user agent thing, but for Google, you can use the following address to get "full" Google on a PPC without any registry edits...
http://www.google.com/webhp

Still need some help plz!
I can limit this problem to the PIE, so does anyone know why the phone ignores the UserAgent? What registry key can I change in addition sot that the phone sends the right UserAgent?
best regards
Tom

no solution now... plz help!

Same problem on HTC TyTn with AKU3.3+.
Maybe the PIE doesn't send the User Agent, or the wrond User Agent.
How can we read out the User Agent String in the sent information?

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=290818
this thread may be of some help

No doesn't help, tried like posted in this thread, but still the same.
It is 99% the PIE which doesn't send the User Agent, because with older ROM it works again, and with Netfront too.

There is really a bug in PIE on AKU3.3 and as i heard on WM6 too in german forum.

As we can see the User Agent is still Mozilla/4.0, even if changing all Mozilla-Strings to Nokia, always sending Mozilla/4.0. The User Agent seems to be written constantly to one of the IE-Files in Windows Directory. Can some developer change the 4 hidden files beginning with IE in Windows-dir to ones from Trinity-ROM or AKU2.3-ROM? There it's working.

WM6 & O2 WAP-Flat in Germany / Proxy-Support

Hey folks,
didn't find a thread regarding this problem:
I live in Germany and use the o2 WAP-Flat, that's a Web-Only internet-flatrate through a proxy-server. I configured it the right way, as I did on WM5 (AKU 3.5) and on my WM5 Smartphone. There everything works fine.
On WM6 however I get a strange result:
The connection works, as I can sync my data with exchange. So the connection and proxy settings are right. But when I try to surf using IE, it says "connecting" then "locating" and then "opening" but then nothing happens for about 60 seconds and then IE tells me: "The page you are looking for cannot be found due to unknown error 0x80072f78."
Any suggestions? WM5 works, WM6 not, not with Helmi 1.0, not with Helmi 1.1 and not with PDAVIET 2.0.6.
Its due to the browser identifing to the proxy.
Afaik does the o2 germany proxy accept the crossbow browser not yet.
Try different setting in registry.
I thought about something like that because that also seems to be the reason why opera doesn't work although I have put in the right proxy...
Now I have to find somewhere the Information about what is the right registry key and what I do have to export to use it again.
Do you have a little hint for me?
yeah you just need the WM5 useragent settings... er...
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=WM5_Tweaks_Other
scroll down to "PIE"
-edit-
actually I think: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Universal_Registry better shows the default values.
Thanks a lot ivor.
OK, I'll try that, the keys are now stored in another location.
The new location is:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\5.0\User Agent\
The standard-values for Crossbow in Helmi v1.1 are:
# Default "Mozilla/4.0"
# Version "MSIE 6.0"
# Platform "Windows CE"
I'll try to change it one by one and post the results here...
Would be great to know what the standard-values for AKU 3.5 are. That one was the most recent version where it worked for me...
Edit: There's also another "Folder" named "Templates" with 2 Subfolders called "Same as Pocket PC" and "Same as Windows XP". I would like to know if Helmi added them or Microsoft or should I try to copy the settings over the original ones or is there a possibility to easily switch between them?
Edit 2:
Tried it with these settings but it doesn't work:
# Default "Mozilla/2.0"
# Version "MSIE 3.02"
# Platform "Windows CE"
Does anyone have the right settings from AKU 3.5? That would help to narrow the problem.
It´s not only the browser identify.
There is another parameter to adjust.
UA-Prof must read f.i.:
Correct browser identify is
"Mozilla/4.0 (compatible;MSIE 6.0; Windows CE; IEMobile 6.8)"
Works for me with O2 proxy 82.113.100.4
You can check the correct settings over

If you are from germany read in the german forum:

I've been looking for this hack for while, its been driving me mad too, under WM2006 Identify PIE as IE 6.0 hack doesn't work.
I've tried to manuly modified reg keys & also with tweak2k2 latest version but no joy.
Opera works fine but my favorite RSS feed app Newsbreak doesn't like it.
Any advise would be grate.
RE
Hassan
You got opera to work with the German WAP-Flatrate? I didn't get that one to work. Neither any other webbrowser than PIE.
The strange thing is, I hat to get my MDA Pro exchanged because the headset-port was broken, and now with the new one and the same ROM (helmi v1.1) the trick with UAProf doesn't work anymore. Am I so stupid or what? ;-)

WM6 d have issue with Internet link

I have tried both the LSVW and Black WM6 ROM and I always have this issue:
After I installed Opera 8 (update 2), whenever I click on a URL, say from email, WM6 complained that it can't open 'OperaLaunch'. This is even when I didnt select Opera as the default browser. This was not an issue in WM5.
Any ideas?
I solved this on my device by looking for operalaunch in the registry and deleting the 3 keys. I am very careless when it comes to deleting in the registry but have never had any major problems. My device is now able to open the url's in messaging.
I did that, but now Opera won't launch. Do you recall which key was that?

I actually removed OPERA and had to delete these keys manually since they were not removed in the uninstallation process. Then I was able to launch URL´S via messaging with IE.
I think that OPERA is not 100% WM6 friendly so therefore I removed it until they get it to work as it should work.
Change registry
I had the same problems after uninstalling Opera.
Error message: OperaLaunch cannot open , blabla
I had to change the following registrykeys:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\wsp\Shell\Open\Command
String Value (Default) = iexplorer.exe %1
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Shell\Rai\EFBROWSER"
String Value 0 = Pocket IE
String Value 1 = :MSPIE
Good Luck

user Agent string reg edit won't work on WM6.. JJ?

I've used many other roms, including Vp3Gs' and lvsw, but the "BLACK" roms are the only ones that enable me to log into my Wells Fargo because all other go to the page where it says that the IE is not compatible... is there any reason this happens? is there any ways to fix this on other roms?.. thanks
google user agent string
then find out how to change it in pocket ie. its a reg hack
I second this. You change that string and you can do the same on any ROM.
Proxy setting
I have 'disabled' proxy setting, and this has allowed me to use IE.
Hope this helps!
there was/is a app out there that basicly hides the fact that you are using a phone to acces the web i think it was tweak lite??? this was from a while back in the wm2003 days so i am not sure it is still around.
i stopped using my phone for heavy web browsing a while back and lost the cab for it. seemed like all it was is a reg hack.
maybe you can get one of the fantastic cooks around here to slap one together.
or buy opera i hear that it also does the same thing.
Buy Opera
If you get the paid for version of Opera, you can change it to identify itself as the "Desktop Version". This works well for me on the UK's National Rail website, which insists on giving me the rubbish cut-down version.
Well I've tried the desktop association with Opera, but I still can't access my online account with Wellsfargo because it is not a supported browser... I tried the user agent hack from WM5, but it won't work with WM6.. anyone out there... JJ? care to enlighten?
Changing the PIE User Agent is not as simple as a regedit anymore. The later builds of WM5 and all WM6 builds have the User Agent hard coded into the browser.dll in the \Windows folder. The User Agent string in the registry is now only for OEM's / Telco's to add any specific customisations.
The only way to edit the full User Agent string is to hex edit the browser.dll. If you search across all the Hermes forums (not just Wm6) there are numerous posts covering the topic.
Cheers
EDIT: Thanks for the below update PAPPL, seems my info was a bit out of date
Download "Schaps Advanced Configuration 0.9" here at xda-devs.
There you can simply change the User Agent in a User Interface!
The new WM6 Builds do have a UserAgent registrykey again. It's called "CustomBase"
Schaps Tool replaces this string.
browser.dll doesn't need to be hexedited anymore for WM6!
Only WM5 Aku3.x+ needs hexediting!
Thanks.. PAPPL.. I'm using schaps rom and have just been living with the fact that I can't do it..
Would I just have to change where it says Mozilla/4.0 to MSIE 6.0?
sry, but I browsed around and that all that had to be done with the registry but it doesn't seem to work with the advanced config tool... maybe I need to change the whole string to something else?

Thanks, I have been using a really old browser.dll to get CV to work guess I can stop doing that now.
Still doesn't work properly
I've done the registry change in CustomBase, but it still doesn't fix the problem
Useragentstring.com still reports my browser as Windows CE and I still get the WAP crap on some sites.
Using Opera set to "Desktop" fixes it, although Opera has other compatibility issues -and it's not compatible with my wallet.
WM6 is obviously still reading either the "Platform" setting in the WM5 key area, or it's doing something else equally creative.
I think the browser.dll hack is the only thing that is going to fix it, at this stage, anyway.
Anyone with any other ideas?

HTC HD2 and Month Calendar - CListCtrl

Hi,
I have a program that uses Month Calendar controls. It works fine on any Windows Mobile 6.5 device, except HTC HD2 (Leo), where nothing is shown where the Month Calendar must be shown and because of this, SendDlgItemMessage(IDC_ROUTEDAYCALENDAR, MCM_GETCURSEL, 0, (LPARAM) (LPSYSTEMTIME)&iDate); returns an invalid iDate (0-00-65535). The program was made with embedded Visual C++ 4.0 using the PocketPC 2003 SDK, but the Calendar control is not shown even when I use the Windows Mobile 6 SDK with Visual Studio 2005, the symptom is the same: nothing is shown (just the window behind the calendar dialog).
The other thing that works fine with any Windows Mobile device except this, is a control that is derived from CListCtrl. This control is implemented in a .dll and sends user defined windows message to the app when the user changes a value in it. On the HTC HD2, this message is not received by the app.
Do you have any idea that can take me closer to the solution for these problems ?
Thanks,
Viktor
Hi,
I got the same problem with c# and VS 2008. It looks like that HTC has replaced the standard windows monthcalendar control with a custom made one and a lot of properties haven´t been implemented propertly like size, location aso. However the datetimepicker is working but looks strange since the calendar is allways fullscreen. So if you want to pick one date you can try to use that one.

Hi,
thanks for your reply. Now I use the datetimepicker control, but the problem is that the month calendar of the datetimepicker is shown at about 200%, most of it is out of the screen:
It is displayed by default...
Do you have any idea?
Hi,
sorry I haven´t check the forum for a while now.
I haven´t seen that problem bevor but maybe the problem is the formfactor of your usercontrol or form? I guess the autoresize of the control is not working correct so I would suggest to set the FromFactor to Windows Mobile 6 Professional VGA. Maybe that helps.

HTC HD2 Calendar Bug
Hi,
I have the same problem
The simple code :
m_MonthCalCtl = CreateWindowEx(0, MONTHCAL_CLASS, _T(""),
WS_BORDER | WS_CHILD | WS_VISIBLE | MCS_DAYSTATE,
0, 0, 0, 0, m_hWnd, (HMENU)ID_MONTHCAL, hInst, NULL);
works perfectly with others devices like :
- HTC Touch2 (WM6.5)
- Samsung GT-I8000 (WM6.5)
- ACER E-101 (WM6.5)
- HTC Diamond (WM6.1)
But with the HTC HD2, calendar appears in zoom mode.
We can't resize it.
Here a link to an image ( remove the space in the word "http" )

Does anyone have a solution ?

HTC adds a registry key in
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\GWE\Commctrl\CustomDateTimeCtrl] = \windows\htcDTP.dll
if you remove this registry key on the HTC HD2, everything will be ok.
Thanks for the registry key! Couldn't figure out why the latest 6.5 ROMs for TP2 were no longer working with my .NET applications where MonthCalendar was used. Removed the key and now everything is working.
Thanks! I removed the line and now I can access the WM 6.5.3 normal common built-in functions.
Now I have:
- The normal date/week picker (since HTC:s own doesnt show weeks - and I need see the week numbers in my work)
- The normal time picker. (which is quite good in 6.5.3)
Why is always HTC always removning many of the built in functions. In this case it means that developers can not build applications for all WM-platforms.

NETCF GetTextExtentExPointW missing

Hi to all Guys,
I Was developing a custom textbox and I had the necessity to measure the string's width, so I try to define GetTextExtentPoint32 for NETCF, but I didn't find it.
After investigating on Google I found that on NETCF the right function would be GetTextExtentExPointW.
Some people say GetTextExtentExPoint some say GetTextExtentExPoint , others say GetTextExtentPointW. I Tried all these names without results and when I launch the program on the device I get err message "NotSupportedException".
Now my current try is :
[DllImport("coredll.dll")] static public extern int GetTextExtentExPointW(IntPtr DC, string Str, int Len, int nMaxExtent, ref int[] lpnFit, int[] alpDx, out SIZE size);
Could any one say what is the right name if one is there ? My device is acer neo S200 with WM6.5 but NETCF 2.0 SP2.
Could also anyone say how to get a list of the coredll.dll functions. Stated that I use sharpdevelop 2.2.1and not VS.
Thanks to all
Joss
