Hi all
This post is in relation to the 'corrupt 2gb' posting. My 2 week old Orbit has needed to be re-set twice in the last couple weeks so I guess I'm part of the 'forgetful' micro SD card brigade. Having to re-install everything is a PITA.
I was flicking through my PC magazine and saw an advert for HTC P3300 and the inclusion of TT6 as the SatNav solution bundled in.
So that got me thinking, what brand/type of card do those units ship with? the website http://www.europe.htc.com/products/htcp3300.html shows various UK stockists, has anyone bought one like this? and are they experiencing the same?
Are the HTC branded units are having the same issue as 'orbit' owners? if so, then there is a genuine case that the units are not 'fit for purpose' and HTC could well have a situation on their hands. The many many people who are experiencing this 'issue' should go back to the retail outlet where the unit was purchased and put in a note that the unit isn't fit for pupose and is indeed faulty from initial or very early on it's useful operational life and get thier money back. Statutory rights - certainly within the UK, should allow this course of action - however, I'm not saying everyone should and will run out to do this as the handset is very sought after.
Anyone have info or using the HTC branded unit with the TT6 ? please let us know if the same issue exists!
Apologies if this has been included in another thread, if so, I haven't seen it!
I'm very miffed with this issue...!!
Cheers! Dennis! West London UK!
My HTC Artemis was supplied with a 512MB card and the TomTom DVD containing maps for Europe, I have installed just the UK map along with Route 66 nav software and a number of other products - topographical mapping etc - in the 3 plus months I have used the unit I have had no such data corruption - only use the card for storage though nothing else, and allways exit the programs properly (in the case of TTN don't just switch off the device, exit the application first) - the supplied 512MB card is a typical San Disk offering - nothing special - Mike
I got my P3300 with TT6.02 and had no microSD card - so it was bundled in with the rest of the software. (I should mention that I didn't get the Premium Version). I was allowed 1 free map to download and it wasn't even for the whole country either.
After following along the 2GB corrupt card thread for a while, I got a 1GB Sandisk microSD Ultra II card and I am only using that for storage - notes made with Word Mobile.
The only application I have installed so far is Magic Button - Yet Another Task Manager 2.0.

Ok so this is my first post here, so if I drop a clanger, please bear with me.
I've got an HTC Wizard (T Mobile Vario etc) but there is something I'm really missing.
Does anyone know of anybody that makes & sells a wired hands free kit with a built in FM Tuner? I would have preferred a built in FM radio in the phone (yes I know, I should have got an Atom), but I didnt & now I have to live with it.
I know Nokia & Sony Ericsson do external tuners for their phones. It should be easy with an Wizard because the only connections are via jack sockets.
I have turned EBay upside down looking for this type of thing, but all I can find are cheap looking plasticy things from China that run on watch batteries! I was looking for something a bit more up market.
I'm sure I can't be the only person in the world that
wants an FM radio bolt on for their Wizard!?
Or am I???????????????????????????????????????
you can get a fm radio sdio card which would add fm radio to all pda's with a sdio slot
the Wizard uses MiniSD, and as such won't work with any SD I/O cards. Afaik, you can't get an SD I/O > MiniSD converter either?
This is not good news. I too have seen the SDIO cards. I think all they do is bleed power from the device, rateher than being truely integrated. But never seen a mini SD devive
Anyone seen anything combined into a headset?????
Plenty of radios that are basically stuck on a plug and two earbuds;
http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0002EQXFK.01.LZZZZZZZ.jpg
But I don't know if they work together with the Wizard for e.g. voice commands (which I personally don't use, so doesn't matter to me)
Yes I am aware of the type of radio that you mention. As I said in my original post "I know Nokia & Sony Ericsson do external tuners for their phones". Problem is they dont have the correct plug to use with a wizard (ie 4 conector, 2.5mm jack plug) which is what you need to listen to MP3 music (for example) then maybe switch to a phone call & then listen to the radio all using the same headset. The Motorola one is close, but the pins on the jack plug are not correct Something like this would be great, ie a headset (with microphone) + a radio. Am I asking for too much?????
[/img]
I guess you are
Could take some cutters and a soldering iron and work some magic with that :>
Hi, have a look on the following link, it is the one i am using.
http://www.expansys.com/product.asp?code=111492
N I C E !
It almost fits the bill. If only it could use the bluetooth connection to use the MP3 player on your phone (in stereo of course). I think I need one of these N*k*a (sorry I nearly swore) & A2DP. Assuming the T Mobile ROM ever turns up will A2DP work on a wizard?
Why is it that the BIG 3 phone companies look after their phones with good accessories? Come on HTC, your phones are great, but they need to branch out & support the phone range with some add on goodies.

You're right about that. I had an SDIO WiFi card for my magician. Whereas the battery would normally last a few days, it would be dead within an hour with the WiFi card in.
Hello any news on this yet?
Hi,
I have been searching around for something like this too. Unfortunately no luck.
Any of you guys find something interesting?
rohseq
Sadly not. I too am still searching the internet for something, but so far nothing that matches the criteria has popped up. Its becoming more & more annoying :x Every time I see something its a specific product for one of the big phone manufacturers. Clearly they put a value on selling accessories (presumably for a good profit) to enhance their phones, whereas most Windows powered phone owners are left to fend for themselves with stuff off fleabay.
Makes me wonder if its worth going down this route again So far I have had an original SPV, E200, C500, C550 & now a Vario (Wizard). Next time around I might go back to the big "N" & enjoy the benefits of buying something from a fully supported product range.
o2 have offered me an upgrade from my IIi to the orbit. As some of you have been using the orbit for a little while is it all it's cracked up to be?
and does tomtom work ok with the orbit and the built in gps reciever?
cheers guys
Go for it you will love it if not sell it many will be after it if you don't like it.
Or you could wait for the zinc (feb 07 or so) if you can do without the gps in-built?
There is an issue with MicroSD's that possibly dosnt effect all units. See other threads.
Apart from that and if you clock it to 250MHz it works extremely well. I loved my BlueAngel but even my old stylus feels fat now. The jog dial / track ball is mega and internal GPS a breeze. The slower CPU also has the benefit of longer battery life.
I am currently looking for one for a friend on eBay and they are going for £300+ so if you dont like it can always sell and keep old phone...
ps. I use a Sandisk UltraII 2gb MicroSD which may speed up map access etc, its generally slightly slower than my 500MHz BlueAngel but no problem.
I'm a new user of the Xda Orbit, my first WM PDA after owning a tapwave zodiac and the first phone I can really type text messages on. For a PDA it's light, snappy (my last wm device was a Compaq Aero 15xx), has an excellent battery life and the GPS works a treat.
The biggest benefit is the size, though, compared to the other similarly featured Xda's in the o2 lineup this one is TINY, it dropped the jaws of my techy colleagues to the floor.
I find TomTom to be pretty fast and accurate getting a fix, route calculations are fast enough, but it is a little slow to start up initially- overclocking helps but not much. I have overclocked to 260 for PocketSNES and on other occasions but find it normally fast enough to be comfortable - quite a feat with a meer 200mhz!
I'd say go for it, I'm posting this message from Mine now! got 3 tabs open text-mode in NetFront- browsing perfection!
I have had the following:
XDA II
XDA IIs
XDA IIi
XDA Exec
And recently upgraded to the Orbit. I must say that it is the closest I have come to being 100% happy with an XDA.
Had no idea how compact this device is. No more holding a brick to your ear, this is an aesthetically pleasing device - even for non PDA'ers.
I haven't found anything that doesn't work yet. I thought the GPS would be just another gimick and there was no way it was going to work properly without an external antenna - WRONG! Stick TomTom 6.02 on it and away you go. Managed nearly seven hours of GPS directed driving before the battery got too low (have now got a car charger).
I have been waiting for a device that combined all the functionality of a good PDA and phone in a phone size package and here it is.............and they throw in a GPS and FM Radio to boot.
and one more thing if you get a decent set of headphones (either buy an adapter or do a bit of DIY soldering) it's a pretty decent MP3 player too. 2GB micro SD from Moby Memory for about £40 and painless synching with Media Player 11 and your away.
The main reason I have a PDA phone is for Terminal Server. I provide software support and it gives me the freedom to get out of the House/Office and still be able to support my Clients. I was always able to justify carrying around a house brick (EXEC) because of this. Now I don't have to this phone is great and I have to say it ..... Gorgeous.
OK now it's out - I love my Orbit!!!
Go get one - I'm pretty sure you'll be happy!
Hope this helped!
Since a couple of weeks ago, I'm also the proud owner of a HTC P3300, after owning a Qtek S100 for a year and a half.
I'm truly very happy with my new P3300.
Almost all of the features have been mentioned in other replies to your post (and I agree with them), so, I want to add that, despite having the same 64Mb of RAM as the S100, it seems to me (I'm no expert) that memory management works better (probably WM5 instead of WM2003 has something to to with it) than it did on the S100.
Also the new 2Mpixel camera works very well, the picture quality is very good. It doesn't have flash or 'macro mode' selector, but I can live without it.
The phone capabilities are good (I had a lot of problems with the S100 not relating phone numbers to names or contact photos).
Apart from a little problem I had with activesync (mentioned in another thread and already solved) it's been working perfectly.
As for the GPS softwares, I use Destinator 6 (instead of TomTom) and Navitel (with custom Madeira map) for navigation and both of them work perfectly.
Bottom line, and yes, I'll be repating myself, I'm very very happy with my P3300.
regards,
thanks for the advice guys! looks like im off to get myself one then!
How about InfraRed capability?
I currently own a Mini S and I'm really keen to upgrade to the Orbit. I've however found that Orbit seems not to have an InfraRed port. So I wouldn't be able to use it as a TV remote control. Can anyone please confirm? Thanks.

as far as i could see and i've read no it doesnt have an IR port, but surely using your phone as a tv remote isn't the be all and end all is it?

I asked HTC about making this device with consumer grade IR and 3G to make this a complete device. This is the response i got from HTC.
"Thank you for getting in contact with HTC regarding your recommendations and support. its more than likely a phone will come out with the functions you have asked. Its a case that at the moment a trade of as to be implemented due to technology reasons due to the GPS functions incorporated in to the phone, which requires other hardware to be dropped from the phone. The GPS being implemented is still fairly new concept and even through I don't have details of future phones its only a matter of time before it happens. Personally i'm waiting for a phone/GPS with slide out keyboard, which again can only be a matter of time.
Thank You for your comments"
All in all adding IR and 3G would make this one compact complete device. Use it to control your gadgets, navigate you around when driving, using it for phone and all manner of PPC functionality with virtually every connection option. One day it will be reality.
Just a snippet from HTC
Hope that helps.
Absolutely YES
Look at my signature, I've worked with nearly all HTCs from an early stage. If you can live without a keyboard, this is THE device to have at the moment.
HTC are nearing perfection!
Best device ever released (excluding the Universal for business use, still unbeatable).
I just got one - having been through the magician (which the wife now loves and uses) and the exec (which I still use as an excellent business tool) I have got to say that I am bowled over by the Orbit/3300 - WM5.0 AKU3, GPS, great screen, brilliant battery life (I get 3 days moderate usage out of mine between charges - 10 calls per day, push email on 18 hours per day, occasional GPS use!
GET ONE - U WILL NOT REGRET IT - and per other posts, if you don't like it I am sure it will get snapped up on EBAY

Hi Guys,
Firstly - what a great forum.
Secondly - I am a complete newbie - both here, and to the world of XDA.
Yesterday I received and XDA Exec (as it is known after O2 get their rebranding done)
It was shipped with the standard memory (ie: very little). I discover that it accepts SD/MMC cards in it's expansion slot.
A few questions about this for you if you don't mind....
1. SD/MMc are two separate formats - right? - What is the essential difference between the two in relation to a PDA usage of them etc?
2. What is the maximum size card available on the market today?
3. What is the maximum size card which the XDA exec will recognise?
4. Where can I get them?
Also - I am slowly beginning to realise just how much tweaking can be done with these devices. I will dilligently read on before I destroy my new toy.
Please reply as I have had it from listening to over-the-counter phone store sales guys who do not know what they are talking about.
Regards,
ConnorP

dont get a cheap sd card off ebay what ever you do, in most cases these cards are half the size they actually are. ie 2 gig sd card is actually a 1 gig with a 2 gig partition to make it look 2 gig

Hi,
Am I missing something here? Just upgraded to xda Orbit. All working lovely jubbley.
But....no SatNav software (CoPilot I think should come free with it). There's nothing in the box except the usual stuff....unless I'm being really stupid and it's right under my nose?!?! Where should it be??!?!
Anyone? Or am I not entitled to the free software as I am not a new customer?
Any light shed most appreciated.
I think o2 only gave away Copilot on the higher tariffs, otherwise you had to pay for it.
Possibly, but I'm on £50 / month.
Plus it says nothing about it on the website: https://shop.o2.co.uk/phone/O2/Xda_Orbit_-_Sat_Nav
Have they just forgotten to put it in the pack? Should it come in the normal box or in a seperate box?
Anyone know?

Its not preinstalled on your memory card is it?
No....but have found an answer.
Looked on another forum and saw posts detailing NO CoPilot software unless you order online.
I am an o2 select customer (as most are I think anyway....) so used the phone to upgrade.
Well unhappy about this, but then again, I love a good argument (esp with o2), so watch this space, will have my free software by the end of tomorrow if it kills me!!
Thanks for any help given, and if anyone has any ideas about how to get this freakin software it would be most appreciated.

They send it out separately so may arrive in the next few days. But if I was you I'd ring them up and find out for sure. On a £50 tariff you're definitely entitled to a free Copilt. The Copilot pack should include memory card, CD, car charger and car mount.
Great, thanks for the heads up! Think I will go easy on them at first then!!

Not quite true. Online gave away copilot on any tariff, but have now changed to the same as the high street where you get it free on the higher tariffs only. Ring them and get it sorted.
I upgraded over the phone but am an online customer (billing done online as opposed to paper statements sent thru the post each month). I got everything bundled into 1 box, should be 1 o2 branded box for the phone and a separate one for the Co-Pilot stuff.
Spoke to o2 this morning. Apparently I am eligible for the CoPilot, however o2 had neglected to order it....no surprise really.
Anyway, its on order and will be with me shortly...again, apparently....!!
Will keep you update,
Thanks.
Many thanks...due to this topic I called O2 and suprise suprise they found the Co-Pilot software in the store I should have got free. Went straight down and got it....thanks for the info.
Eoin
Had a right nightmare upgrading mine with O2 over the phone mate.
After the usual yes you will give me what I want conversation I got em to agree to including the copilot and the handset for free.
Phone turns up...... no copilot anywere.
Call to customer services, "no notes saying its included sir"
"well I suggest you listen to the call" I said. "I wanna speak to the bloke who upgraded me (insert time date and name of operator) "
He calls me back, makes his appologies and explains he's sending it out today. Turns up next day, on a MINI SD Card!!!!!
Called back (again) explaining the problem, rather miffed by now. "only one I can order " he says
(Me banging my head against the wall icon)
Finally get him to send me a Free Micro SD card to put it on, principle really as I'd already ordered a 2GB one
Just shows how sometimes the operators haven't got a clue! rant over LOL
Everyone be calm...I have received my CoPilot.....everyone can now relax!!
Only joking, but yes it is here.
So, in summary, o2 need a hefty nudge now and again. But we all knew that, didn't we?! If you ain't got your free software, a few well placed calls will do the trick.
End of thread methinks. Thanks for your help.
Hi...
Don't know if I'm allowed, so if not: admin can remove my post, no prob...
I am looking for a BlueAngel device for testing with Linux installation etc...
Device may be in (heavily) used state, battery time more than 2 minutes is not necessary.
What need to be ok is: screen, touchscreen, keyboard, gsm radio...
Anyone want to sell an old (double) device for a small price, let me know!
Thanks!
Moved the thread out of WM6. See no problem with this request.

1 gig? Are you talking about a gig of memory on board, or via a SD card?
if it's onboard, how the heck was that done?
