Hi All
Since 2 days ago my cradle stopped charging via the mains. It charges the battery separately in the back and It syncs fine but nothing happens when I plug the mains in. However it does charge the XDA when it is sync'd and in the car
any ideas???
The XDA i have is a XDA iis (blueangel PH20B) with my cradle (desktop stand)it charges either with mains adaptor or will charge via the usb cable without the mains connected. What XDA do you have also what is the cradle part no.
I have the XDA II (Himalayer PH10B).
I don't get why it will sync & charge and mains charge the battery separately but won't mains charge in the cradle.
it sounds like a fault with the cradle, if you can check it against another one
maybe a friend has got one if not ask at the phone shops, see if anyone has got one in and get them to check it for you.
my xda2 cradle had a pretty poor connector
sometimes it would sync and charge something not
(was a bit of an issue in the middle of a flash :S)
changed to my old xda1 cradle and no problems
no car charging either
update:
I don't think its the cradle after all as its not charging in the car now either but the wired sat nav is still working.
could it be a lose connection in the XDA itself?

As in the title, it will not charge through the power cable. (i have tried 2)
I can only charge the battery through the cradle in the AUX battery slot, and O2 say it will take 3 weeks to fix.
Any ideas?
well, if you put the plug in the wrong way around it will not charge.
My himalaya has stopped charging through the cradle or car charger. It syncs and charges through the usb and my wired sat nav connects up but neither method charges my phone anymore. Obviously the battery will die down quick when I use my tom tom so I need that to work and only being able to charge via usb is a pain and inconvienient.
What can I do to fix it??
What kind of charging connector your PDA has? ie. my universal has a mini usb, it is used to charge/sync, it can be done at the same time, on the contrary an old Ipaq (series H38XX & H39XX) had two different ways for power to arrive to the PDA, this means that you could charge it with its charger or via usb while syncing or just charge via usb.
Why am I asking this?
In this way I'm trying to understand if you could have a problem with a connector/cable (different connector for charging with the craddle/car charger and usb charging) or you could have other problems.
If it's possible for you, take some pictures of your pda's syncing and/or charging connector, to your craddle, car charger and usb syncing/charging cable.
Possible causes for your problem are:
Defective craddle/car chargers, defects can be not the chargers themselves, but the cables that go from the chargers to the PDA.
Defective/unsoldered PDA power/charging connector, it is not so unusual that after you pull the cable too hard, without pressing the unlocking secures (in case your cables have them), accidentally hit your charging cable/craddle or the PDA itself while they are tied togheter you cause a malfunction due to a false contact or a broken cable.
See if one of this might be the cause in your case, how? Can you have a borrowed craddle/car charger to verify if yours are ok?
Try to move the charging cable/craddle or the PDA (easy and carefully) to see if the PDA begins to charge.
Let me know how it goes.
unfortunately I don't know anyone that has an XDA - so no other chargers unless I try the o2 shop.
THe XDA has a cradle with a usb connector that can charge and sync and also a mains lead which plugs into the cradle or there is a little adaptor piece(which I've lost) which plugs straight into the xda to charge. I stiooed using that because it would push in properly.
My thoughts are that its the PDA itself as the car charger was only bought december whilst I have had the PDA and cradle since 2004 and they both stopped charging at the same time. The adaptor stopped chargin in the summer.
Hi,
I recently bought a car charger (actually, it's a 3-in-1 kit, with USB-2-miniUSB cable, plug-in car charger, and travel charger). This set seems not to work with my TyTn, but work perfectly with other HTC pda's - Touch, Cruise etc. However, that cable works nicely when plugged to PC.
Anyone have a clue? Maybe, I should change some power management settings in the TyTN?
Thanx
Hi,
I have the same problem.
Sometimes is charging O.K. (when the screen is off and Hermes is in Standby). But if I have a Phone Call, or if I use the car navigation, charging won´t work.
(Everythink was O.K. with WM5, I think, but WM6 and WM6.1 has this problem on my Hermes - I tried many ROMs, now I use CRCs PHKv12r9, Radio 1.47.30.10)
Get an inverter from Maplins http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=48723&criteria=inverter&doy=3m4 for £19.99 you can then use your home charger...
Ah OK scratch that idea I didn't look at the flags before posting...
I have one, but the question is, why car charger won´t work.
I use the inverter with everything up to 300W without any problems.
I dont understand WHY people have this problem.... I bought a CHEAP little car charger that allows me to use a usb cable. I plug in, leave for a minute or so and it starts charging. Make/ recieve calls, use GPS software and never have a problem. I would say that the charger was made good BUT its a generic "made in china" charger.... Must've been BLOODY LUCKY to find it...
I had this problem with mine, sometimes it would charge, other times it would need to be restarted before picking up the charger? This was using the same sort of charger that plugged into the lighter socket, then the USB-to-MiniUSB plugged into the charger.
I started using a spare charger for a TomTom One which worked perfectly.
In fact, I have 2 car chargers to which I plug USB-mini cable, both not working. I just wonder why... Can it be hardware or software problem? I suspect you all use WM6.... OK with WM5?
I can't find the post now, but there have been a couple of discussions about the charging issues with the TyTN. My TyTN is very picky about the charging cable. It has something to do with a requirement that the data pin in the USB cable either be connected to something live(like a computer) or that the data pin be jumpered to the ground pin.
I have tried a number of charging solutions and keep going back to the AT&T store for a charger that works. I have an external battery for my laptop from Battery Geek, Inc that has both a USB port on it and a mini USB charging cable. Both don't work with my TyTN but work with my wife's Wizard. Actually they work with my TyTN about 2% of the time, just enough to make me think it is going to work.
Someplace back in the archives I've seen a description of how to modify a USB charging cable to work with the TyTN, but I can't find it right now.

Look HERE !
My Desire has already connected to the AC but it had done nothing after an overnight charged. Any solution for this? The LED is on when it connected to the AC.
Same here since a few days
anyone with a solution?
If it is refusing to charge, maybe a dead battery or something like that? If so talk to HTC about it. Could be something else but very much unlikely.
Usb and car charger seem to work fortunately. Probably a broken ac adaptor . Strange because the orange charging led is lit while plugged in however it's not charging. Whrn I plugged in an old cigarette to usb charger in my car which resulted in amessage from the phonr cmplaining that there is not enough current. Not the case with the ac adaptor. Charging led is on but using battery instead of charging
Hi,
I've dropped my phone while charging and after that I could not charge it. What happened was that the two hooks on the mini-USB port were ripped off and the contact was imperfect. I replaced the USB-miniUSB cable and it worked, I've had no problems since. I hope that your problem is as easy as this.
Hi!
All owners of Kidigi car dock should read and do this!
I got a Kidigi car dock with charger. The first thing I tried was putting the phone on the included charger - and indeed, it did charge in "AC mode" (aka 1000mA max).
Then I installed the cradle, connected the charger to the cradle and started using it.
But after 2 days I noticed it doesn't really charge when navigating or recording - and it was not an overheat issue. So today I looked again and it was charging in USB mode!
Apparently, the good folks at Kidigi screwed up the connection inside the dock (probably to trigger Car mode and forgot to connect it all).
The fix:
1) unscrew the four visible screws on the back of the dock (not the 4 center ones)
2) unscrew the fifth screw under the label on top
3) unscrew the phillips screw that holds the connector
4) short PINs on the phone side labelled D- and D+ (I just used a blob of solder)
5) that's it
Now it triggers Car mode AND charges in AC.
This fix is essential for anybody using this dock, and I'll be mailing Kidigi shortly to let them know they screwed up...
mine charges mine fine whilst using GPS and Bluetooth.
Not a quick charge tho but it definitely charges more than discharges if that makes sense .
I will check the pins tho thanks =)

I hope this wasn't on purpose for the sake of overheating?

It doesn't overheat from charging, but from using it (Navigation, recording, video...). AC charging does no harm in this respect (nor does it help).
You'll notice it when something is running and the brightness is on full - USB charging will not feed the phone and it will start to discharge.
So is this a problem at the charger end if so I have a belkin 1amp charger I can use.
I understand the data pins have to be shorted for it to see the AC mode.
In my power menu both the chargers I have say AC whether plugged in through the dock
or just to the cable and charger without the dock.
surely this means its OK or would show usb am I wrong?
I've opened the dock and can't see for the life of me the name on the pins +
my soldering skills are a bit much to be desired when working this small

No, the problem is inside the cradle itself - even though pins on your charger are shorted, they are not even connected through the cradle connector. You have to short them at the cradle connector.
Btw all chargers will work as AC then
Strange that it shows AC for you, are you sure it's right? Can you make a photo of the connector? Maybe you got a different revision or something...

Yes it definately shows AC for both my chargers whether plugged through the cradle or not.
Does yours show USB or something? Like I said mine does charge all be it very slowly when using copilot.
Is the writing for the pins obvious for you as I swear I have none

I'll be damned!
Plug phone in dock then plug in charger (shows AC!)
Plug charger in FIRST then put phone in dock shows USB!
In the instructions they say to do it the first way I think.
I wonder if it is charging AC then hmmmmmm?

I got mine today and found it was charging in AC when I tried either way!

Gonna go get dressed ( I'm having a lazy morning ) and i will double check but I swear its fine
EDIT : Confirmed mine is fine. I checked with the bundled charger cable as well as my own and whether the plug is in before the HOX is in the cradle or after, power settings shows "Charging AC" in all cases. I haven't seen USB charging at all with the cradle. They must have realised their mistake and fixed it.
Today the car dock Kidigi arrived.
When connecting the phone, I noticed that there is recharged via USB.
Through this tip, Is now loaded by AC ....!
BIG [email protected] zvieratko.
(Sorry for my bad English)
Seems I'm the only one with a working dock out the box!!
Mine is aslo writing AC charge, but it is definitelly not AC charge. Going to fix it
I'm definitely curious how mine is going to work.
Ordered mine last week through ebay, so I hope it's a late build without the problem.
'Cause I don't have a blob or solder or whatever can fix this thing...
Hi guys,
I recently bought one of these Kidigi car mounts for my HTX One X and have found that the battery will slowly drain (about 1% every 10 mins) when I have it docked and am using sat nav (Google Nav or Co-Pilot). My battery app says that the phone is charging (estimates about 6 hours to charge 30%).
I've checked the charging method and it shows that it's charging via AC (not USB).
I've tried a few things like running Co-Pilot in power saving mode, dimming the screen, closing down all over background apps, but my battery still slowly drains.
Do you think this soldering fix might help?
Thanks all.
AC or USB changing
Hi, i've brought various chargers off ebay and other sources and even when the phone reports AC charging i've had leads that use wire so thin that the phone cant get the high current charging to work.
Check that your adapter is providing more than 500 mA. Certainly I've had no trouble with it charging the phone while navigating.
I have a question regarding this mod. I bought this charger and am fixing to recenter the microusb port to properly mate with otterbox commuter case still on. The OP states to just short the 2 data pins together, but I'm wondering if I should do this with a resistor to load balance the lines or if that is even necessary?
