Critical Low Memory - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

hi guys! i successfully translated my japanese softbank x01ht to english and now it;s running ok... the only problem is when i try to install games on it, it installs the game but the game doesn't work and "critical low memory" always appears on the screen and my unit stops responding... any suggestions.... thank you

maybe ...
not so precise what you are saying but :
- check that you really closed all other applications. As you might know, closing an app. in ppc does't really close it. There are freewares to do that (like pbar).
- you can run pocket mecanic professionnal, there is a section free RAM. (free like more bear not like free bear)
- I think there are some tweaks to allow a different RAM allocation (increase screen performance) You would need a register editor. need to be confirm though...
- I don't know if CPU speed can improve RAM use. BUt if it does, do overclock your little diamond.
voila monsieur,
hope that helped
cheers

Dont want it to sound boring..

Hello, I decided to get the XDA Orbit instead rather then the wifi less MDA. Ive searched but could not find a result. How can I change the new text message sound alert to something a bit more...well me?! Don't fancy a dog barking!!
change the mp3 into a wav and drop it into the windows folder
thanks for that I have more questions, please can you help me?
ive only had mine a little time but go ahead, im sure if I cant help someone else can!
My friend overclocks his orbit with some software but he won't tell me because hes being a meany:-( I know about overclocking the risks etc. Id just like to give mine a tiny boost. Anyone know any reliable free app?
ive just done it 5 mins ago, ill find the stuff for you, its in this section of the forum
this is the thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=282006
direct link to software with instructions: http://www.chi-tai.info/cs_BatteryStatus_XDA_Neo_WM5_iM_cs.htm
ive clokced mine to 260mhz and notice the difference immediatley when browsing, people have gone higher but I read one post on the thread said that over 273mhz and TomTom locks up
mine has been stable so far for the moment
I have tried omapclock and other overclocking apps but find them unstable and difficult to use (well im a newbie to overclocking).. till i found Anton Tomov Pocket Hack Master! It runs smoothly on my machine and it is very configurable... you can even set a specific speed to different applications... and it also does automatic scaling so you dont always run at full speed when using non demanding applications. It has automatic overclock testing and informs you that a certain Mhz setting is unstable on your machine.

[Common Problem] Slow performance when using stylus or touch screen

I noticed that whenever you touch the screen, the device slows down BIG TIME. I mean if you try to use a CPU utilization app, it will show you that whenver you touch the screen, CPU utilization immediately jumps to 41-45%! And if you try, there is no way that you can actually play touchscreen games like Skyforce or KRally because of this problem.
I just want to know, is this problem ROM specific? for WM6? WM5? or is it really just a flaw in the device? I searched and found out here that the Trinity also suffers from this. I used to have a Himalaya and a Universal, and this was never a problem.
Is there a known solution for this?
I hope nobody will mention overclocking as a solution. Cause even overclocked, it is still slow.
HTC Advantage X7500 with 624Mhz CPU is suffering same problem.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=305627
Looks like it's an HTC problem, and don't hesitate to write to HTC support for complaining
cheers
I guess nobody really cares about this issue and nobody tried to fix it. Not even HTC.. oh well.. I guess Hermes devices are just not bound for stylus intensive type games.
same thing..

Dude, avoid speaking in tagalog.
I'm using WM6 TNT 2.0 Pro.. I also tried Schaps' ROMs, but it's a little slow for my taste. But regardless of the ROM, it still suffers from this issue. Also tried the ATI fix, no effect. It's either a bad hardware or driver design/fault.. and sadly, nobody could fix it.
I think Ill bring this topic back to life...anyone found a solution?
I've noticed this a lot in games like skyforce. Makes the game a lot easier though Hope someone comes up with a fix.
want just to bring this back to life again
as I know this haven't been fixed yet
Would be really cool if somebody has a solution
Other phones have this problem got fixed so why not ours too?

Yeah! really appreciate if someone already figured out the reason behind this..
I can't even play skyforce on my Hermes which I enjoy playing on my O2 XDA II mini.
I have the same problem, i try to remove "HTC Home", from Today Menu.
Now its work fine.
I hope that is the solution
I have TyTn II with WM 6.1
well you must know that We have a strong arm processor... samsung... very powerfull at 400mhz nice but the god dam ati accelerator makes the issue!
even tho in newer builds in 6.5.1... we are experiencing new issue touch response at repeatedly tapping...
So i think is a mix betwen Processor acelerator and the OS... If you are in winmo6.5.1 and you dislike that delay at tapping this key allows you to tap more fast not so fast as first 6.5 but good enogh to continue with the sip typing... the games are... games... Skyforce in a Universal with almost 600mhz has the same delay... in 6.1 and 6.5 so... in games the procesor is important but the stability and the PAGEPOOL is the meaning of our troubles. i have cook with 4 PP and the new IE cant works fine but skyfire works good... MSFT develops his PP at 15mb!!!!! to test the speed on IE... just to reinforce my point of view...
the reg to fix the delay at touch response ( alil fix )...

Well, with a raw CPU power test (using 7zip's built-in test) it comes as good as XScale at the same clock frequency so it seems it's really powerful.
Thank's for the response.
I try to find your key, but there isn't. I use PHM Registry Editor, i use also "Find", but nothing.
Thank you

Dell Axim X50v WM6 A02 RTM with 0Mb PP (Discussion/Download)

I opened a new thread to discuss the effects of Maglite's WM6 A02 ROM with 0Mb PAGEPOOL and to not overload his own thread.
All info transfered from the original post and waiting for feedback.
Test this please:
- Check if Filesys.exe hits harder or smoother.
- Check if there is any diference in responsivness(faster/slower)
- Install apps to your Main Storage and test
Note: All of the hard work was made by Maglite_Rus, i just changed the PagePool for testing.
Until now, all is good. My Axim is fast, Filesys.exe appears, but very smooth and briefly.
Zeus_Alex
Uploading WM6 with 0Mb Pagepool to rapidshare... It will be up in a few moments for who wants to try it...
It has no changes yet, but its very good... In my spare time, will change some stuff, adding some more, removing a few stuff and then ill tell you guys whats new or not...
Greets from Portugal..
Edited: Now its the right link, the 0Mb PP rom..Ehehe...
http://rapidshare.com/files/57962070...o_0Mb.rar.html
Its the same procedure to flash.
Copy both files to root of SD Card with Fat32, press Wireless + Power + Soft reset to start...etc, etc...
Test it and tell something... I tested in 2 different X50v's and had diferent results in both..Mine has near 40Mb of free RAM and its quite fast, with no problems changing from one app to another.
The other one i flashed, had only 36Mb of Free Ram and it was as fast as mine...I dont understand why the Free RAM is diferent from one to another and with the same rom...Strange..lol...
P.S. - Try it at your own risk.. dont want to be blamed or flamed if anything goes wrong...

I instaled 0mb pp version on my axim and only have 30 mb free.
When finishing instalation, first time of use I experimented a very low speed, and filesys.exe was stuck at ~50% of processor for several minutes.
Then work fine, not too fast, but fine, with wisbar installed work better.
I still have the filesys problem, 3 times on the day, for severals minutes the processor at ~50%.
I've give to 0 pp few more days.
Good try, but my guess is that when you set the pagepool to 0, it is like to let windows mobile o/s decide what pagepool is suitable for your axim. and the decision is dynamic. That explains why sometime you get 34MB free ram while the other times you get 30MB free ram.
Rember what windows xp does when you let xp decide its Virtual Memory on its own.

I dont think that the OS is deciding what pagepool to use, but something is happening because for me, filesys is much smoother.
But as i said, its just a test, nothing to serious, altough the rom is very stable.
But a few minutes ago i had an idea to, maybe, stop filesys.exe from hitting. A few more days and, if it works, ill release it for testing. But please, no PM's about it as this is only an idea of mine, and im going to have to rebuild the entire system..
Thank you both for your feedback.

By this, do you mean remove Filesys.exe entirely from Windows Mobile? Or are you referring to some other method of keeping Filesys.exe from firing as often?
I hope it's not the former, as removing Filesys.exe completely could seriously reduce the expected lifetime of an Axim. (as I'm sure you already know)

He's refering to the total of ram, not the free and available...eheh..sure it would be good having the total of 64Mb..eheh...
As for my ideia, i was thinking of another aproach on filesys.exe...not removing it completely, as the Axim could be very unstable. But i am thinking in switch it with another one...I have to make some tests an probably will damage one of my X50v's, but i think it will work...
We'll see...

Okay, I see now. Now that I've looked at it, it does seem strange. It's saying I have roughly 18mb of free RAM, but I'm running without any slowdowns whatsoever! It doesn't make sense, but it's hard not to like it anyway!
I'm excited to see what happens with the alternate "Filesys" that you have in mind, Zeus! I hope it doesn't brick any of your Axims though!
Ok..so, let me explain whats going up to now...
I'm testing my idea as we speak but having some dificulty. I've sucecssfully tested and make my idea work, but not all traces of compactation disapeared.
What i want is really to make compactation go away or not being noticed.
Here's how all of you can help.
I have to check the specs of all PDA's, but not Axim's, with the Filesys.exe file on it... If you dont mind, you could help.
Just install a process viewer and check if filesys.exe is running. If your system has Filesys.exe, post the specs of your machine here and, if possible, the file "Filesys.exe".
I need help from all of you to make this work. All devices could help...
Thank you.
Note: I've attached a free taskmanager tha will do...Its very good. If you dont have any, try this one.

WoW, I looking forward to it.
Don't blame me if I ask a dumb question.
Since filesys.exe is a necessary process on wm device.Although it would attack by no reason.Sometimes It actually do it's job.If force to suppress the cpu usage. When filesys.exe actually doing the right thing, reading or writing rom and eat 100% cpu usage in a short while.Maybe suppress is not a good solution in this situation that causing slow down.
Rom link is dead. just letting you know
Let me tell you the correct file name to get a persistent upload:
"in_this_file__is_Chuck_Norris_you're_adverted"
Without jokes, this file is down, always that I say myself "um Im going to get..." when clic the link... If I get the file, I'll upload to another site, for sure!
Sorry abou the link guys...Maybe it was the name..lol...
I'll upload it as soon as i get my hand on my home pc..Or maybe who has the file already, may upload it too and share the link...
Very soon, i promisse you..no more filesys and slowdowns. Im working on it and right now i am posting this with one of the test X50v with a "hacked" filesys...Its not perfect yet, but will be.
I'll be in touch.

Zero PP don't solve "filesys problem"...
This problem associated with the type of flash ROM memory because NOR flash is too slow for writing information...

First of all, is a pleasure to see you post here and knowing you are reading this thread. Thank you for all the hard work.
Ok, now to the point.
I know that the PP hardly affects or resolves the compactation thread that is present in all our X50v's.
I also know that NOR is far more slow writting, but if you noticed, and im sure you did, reading is much faster and no slowdowns are present.
My idea is as simple as that. Without "bricking" our Axim's, im trying to implement faster speeds writting blocks of NOR.
Thats why im testing it myself and not sharing it for now. If theres any chance of bricking it, it will brick only mine and no one elses Axim. Once i am certain of the results, i'll post here.
For now, just testing and adjusting...

"High Performance" ROM

Hello,
i have a Problem. I have a Diamond with about 5000 Contacts.
Problem is, that with the standardrom, the diamond is very slow.
So i tryed some other roms and got no better rom. Most times, the Diamond freezes when you try to open the contacts.
Maybe someone has a good suggestion for a "High Performance" rom for me.
Thank you very much.
They are all the same!
ready to get flamed at
hm... maybe there is an tweak to make the contacts database smaller?
Try an external contacts management app, like PocketCM, iContact, YotaContacts...
try a 6.5 rom... maybe the outlook contact handling is better...
it'll OS limitation than anything else...
another suggestion, maybe delete all info/user pictures/store only 1 number...
but 5000 contacts?... damn
delete people you dont call any more?

5000??!!! woahhhh. i bet u havent even met half of the 5000.
your diamond didnt freeze. it's using all possible resources just to open your contacts. open your contacts and leave it to search. lets say an hour or so? make it 2.
Thanks for all this answers. I will try this external tool and a 6.5 rom.
The owner of this device is a Marketing/Salesman so he needs those lots of contacts :/
With 5k contacts, I guess you're running out of RAM / balloon.
just write a program that calls thaousands of contacts.. it's spamming anyway, so, why do it in person
When you've got contacts open... do you have some free mem left? If so, it's a speed issue. Most roms with 6 mb pagepool will be too slow for you. Raise the pagepool to get some speed!
use a databse software like accessmanager for ppc.
generate intelligent mask/filters. not needed load first all contacts if you only need the phonenumber of madonna or don king or ....
if needed example and have a little time to wait (a lot of time
than ask for it.
no garanty but possible

Ok, I've tried about "at least" 90% of all the ROMs for Diamond. I'll tell you without any shred of doubt, the fastest & most stable ROM with tweaks no one other than Microsoft even heard of is Dia Duit 1.3. Lots f space too - with EVERYTHING (xbmod manila, games, apps, etc) I want installed in the system RAM, I have about 60MBs left! When you boot up the first time it'll ask you a good bunch of questions include a "system performance profile"make sure you choose either tweaked (fastest) or balanced (medium). You will never use another ROM!
Regards,
A happy diamond user (!!!!)
Hello,
thank you for all your Answers. So i have now many things to try
udk r6 may suite you, by the way best is using icontact for your contact browsing.
cooking(compiling) roms really isnt too challenging of a task and then you could customize exactly what apps you want on the phone which could help with system performance.
also, advanced config will add performance if you expand you file system cache.

[ROM] Asus P565/O2 XDA Zest WM6.5 28232 (RE-UPLOADED to MU)+BLADE0RZ KITCHEN

RE-UPLOADED
I've cooked a Rom for the Asus Zest Build 28232.
Download link below
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=AHK4D9NF
Mirror: http://ul.to/xvu21b
It seems to be faster than previous builds. ~44 MB RAM free on first boot.
MS online services/widgets removed.
Give the interface some time to load at startup, before pressing Start or other buttons, or you might get a Shell32 crash (nothing major, anyways).
In Program Files you will find two empty folders: "Finger keyboard" and SIP change" (these were part of the Blade0rz kitchen on which I cooked and forgot to remove); just delete if not needed.

"Google maps" - in ASUS_ROM.
This is very fast build. I think it's twice fast than 28205. After some reg tweaks I got near 50MB free RAM at start.
I didn't explore reg tweaks possibilities... Anyways, i'm really new to all this cooking staff. Can you share the tweaks you mentioned?
Also kindly specify Asus soft to be removed... I would'n want to remove something I shouldn't.
Cheers
Basically, it's not "tweaks".
I am an old-fashioned user, and I don't use Titanium. So I don't need many plug-ins.
First, I remove every unnecessary registry keys for plug-ins.
Second, I remove content of regkeys for "ErorReporting", and every similar unnecessary (for me) service (BtHID, Vindows Live, IPv6 and so on).
About Asus software.
I am not sure, but maybe AsusZip and Network Settings (which is WM6.1 - maybe). I first thought of Asus dialer, but it is a dialer wit VideoCall capability, so we need it.
I think you don't need to remove any regkeys, coz the "tweaks" are for my customization only.
In general it is a good idea to build a "basic and full" release... but it's a time-consuming job.
P.S. After removing unnecessary services&plug-ins, the stand-by time increases about 2 times...
Thanks for the ROM genci! It works flawlessly and my MMS works again! I installed a couple of the O2 specific cabs to get the network settings, USSD and emergency call settings set up. If any body else wants these cabs you can find them in the Zest Upgrade Pack on the Blade0rz ROM thread here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=551379
Does this ROM have User Configuration (UC) built in? I know the original one from the kitchen you are using did (it was one way to load the Zest Upgrade Pack automatically). Any idea?
Thanks, agitate! I'm glad to hear you liked and you are using my rom.
I've never used UC; you are right, I used Blade0rz kitchen that should have UC.
I just ported the system, without touching anything further (OEM). In fact i would like to explore more on removing Asus soft from the OEM misc folder, without damaging functionality of the ROM, just to free some more RAM, mainly for using it with some more fancy UI, like the memory hungry SPB Mobile Shell.
Can you advise on the above?
I'm planning to cook a 23544 ROM (issued the last couple of days). Do you have any info on which is better, 23xxx vs 28xxx.
Thanks

It would be very useful to me if you provide some feedback on the rom.

Unless the ASUS software is running in the background then you aren't going to free any RAM by removing it. Only ROM for installing other programs in. Right?

I used to follow Da_G's release thread, but, as you probably know, if you stop reading it for more than 10 seconds, you find yourself 6 billion posts out of date. I remember being very excited when the COM8 branch started, but it would seem that the COM5 (235xx) branch is the most active at the moment. Sorry I can't be of more help.
I've been using your ROM for nearly a week now without any problems whatsoever. One weird thing I noticed is that there are a load of cabs in \asus_rom that haven't been installed as part of the initial ROM setup. Google maps is in there and also the Network Settings cabs (which I installed the O2 version of separately after noticing that they were missing). Is there something missing from your ROM setup that has stopped this first boot install from working. Or did it just not run on my device? I started the install and then got distracted and when I came back it was sat on the Screen Setup page waiting for my input, so maybe I missed something. Any ideas?
Thanks again for all your hard work! It's appreciated.
They were part of the UC, which I removed, but without removing those files.
So don't worry, you didn't miss anything... I did.
I'll try to address in other releases, if necessary..
Cheers

does anybody can explain differences between different builds?
why do you choose 28232 and not another one?
I already used this rom for two weeks til now, it run well to me, no problem except the error after finish instal rom that already mention in this forum.
My big concern is about total program memory dan free program memory (not storage memory), is there a way to make it bigger? because Asus P565 has default total program memory = 128MB, but in setting it show only ~89MB in total, where is the rest? Or anybody now what to do to free more memory?
Also, lag of scroll feature when read document in word mobile, and hard to select bunch of text when read incoming email (with keyboard already open). But I found both of this lag also in Rishi's rom, I don't know is this common or not, since I only try Genci's rom and Rishi's rom.
For now I used 'AE Button Plus' to remap volume key to page up and page down function for read document (long press to change sound volume), and used 'Cootek Touchpal keyboard' for select text in email (it has feature to select text with visual arrow).
Waiting your promised rom, Genci, thank for sharing.
is this taken off?
hope you could put it back on or an updated rom.
my device is hanging on me 4 times a day and im in need of a new rom
I use Rishi ROM, it isn't 100% stable but stable enough for everyday use
