WM6 Word Suggestion Fix - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro Software Upgrading

Hi,
I see that currently leaked WM6 versions have problem with word suggestion checkbox in Start / Settings. You have to uncheck word suggestion on every soft reset. WM6 forget this setting.
This little fix should cure this
Install:
Copy wsuggfix.cab to Universal and uncheck word suggestion.
Try soft reset. Windows should remember your setting.
How does it work?
-------------------
The fix consists of two files:
wsgfix.dll
sippoll.exe
wsgfix.dll is a service dll. After installing cab wsgfix.dll creates a hidden window, and requests notifications about
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Sip, SuggWords value changes.
When Suggwords changes wsgfix copy this value to its own registry key.
sippoll.exe is only started on system startup. sippoll reads Suggwords and disables word suggestion if disabled and copy Suggwords back to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Sip, SuggWords. That's all. sippoll doesn't occupy precious program memory

SuggWords fix...
I have discovered another way to fix this and even chang it to the number of words you want -of course reasonable.
\HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\CompIME
...change the "SuggWords" DWORD to the value tht reflects number of words suggested. I use 8, quite okay though.
I thought the same about SIP string but it is very stubborn!

Thanks, it's good to know that.
But If I use this method, I have to edit registry after modifying settings in Control Panel. Or I have to completly leave Control Panel's Word completion tab, and only change registry. And Control Panel applet's tab become unused.
I know it's not a big thing, but I don't like this

thank you for this fix. Works great!

Yes, the same here.
The fix worked fine for the first couple of days, after that it suddenly stopped working. When I check the suggesting words box (so enabled!) the suggesting words stops again.
When I then uncheck it again, it stays disabled after a soft reset, but it will start suggesting some time later again.....
I'd sure like to see some sort of true 'final' of Windows Mobile 6.0 for the Universal, only containing three fixes:
1. No more word suggesting trouble - disabling means disabling, enabling means enabling.
2. Windows Live Messenger uses only Wi-Fi when connected to a Wi-Fi network and only uses GPRS/3G when not connected to Wi-Fi network.
3. Ofcourse: full 3G video call support.

Word suggestion
Hi,
Don't know but do you use tools like SK Tools or PocketMechanic?
Sometimes they clean the registry to deep.

hi i'm new here. i have tried your solution with no luck. please help me!

Thanks for the registry keys!! I added them to the wizard wiki, someone else can change it around I guess...
Does anyone know how to stop WM6 from auto-capping the first letter in a new sentence automatically? I just don't want it to do this anymore, and the Settings > Input checkbox isn't helping... so where in the registry is it?
Please no more CAB files, I like to know where in the registry it is for knowledge reasons

Fix with MortScript
There are another solution (simply - maybe stoopid) to fix this Word Suggestion bug - with MortScript.
When you have MortScript installed simply create text file named SuggWords_Off.mscr with this code:
Code:
RegWriteDWord( "HKCU", "ControlPanel\Sip", "SuggWords", "0" )
and put this file into \Windows\StartUp .

Damn GPRS sometimes works and sometimes doesn't!!!!!!!

Aaahhhhhhhhhhh
Can anyone help please?
I am running a PDA2K with i-mate 1.4 roms and radio 1.13.
Sometimes after a telephone call my GPRS fails to connect.
As I have Smartner push email on my phone this is a REAL pain and means I need to reset my device in order to re-establish GPRS and hence email.
THIS HAPPNES 4-8 TIMES A DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Any ideas for a fix out there please?
Cheers.
Robin
I've got this problem too. But i don't know how to make it work correctly!
Every time i need to reconnect the GPRS.
And i realy doesn't like it!!!
Try this chaps. I have applied the registry tweak and now I keep GPRS on all the time.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\ConnMgr\Providers\{7C4B7A38-5FF7-4bc1-80F6-5DA7870BB1AA}\Connections\(GPRS connection name)\AlwaysOn
Just change it from 0 to 1.
(GPRS connection name) is, of course, the name of your GPRS connection, and I'm not sure if that GUID is the same on
every machine or not, but I only had about 5 GUIDs under Providers, so it shouldn't be too hard to find.

Okay.
HOW do I make this change please?
I have no idea how to do it?

Dude you need a PPC registry editor. I use EdReg.
Very similar to a normal windows registry editor.
Fatzzz
I have found something like that there: HKCU\Software\Microsoft\ConnMgr\Providers\{7C4B7A38-5FF7-4bc1-80F6-5DA7870BB1AA}\Connections\Providers\(GPRS Connevtion name)
But there is no key named "Always on"!!...
Well you have got further than I have.
I download PHM Registry Edit.
I opened KKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE then Comm and the only 2 options that start with a C under there are:-
Cellular Line and CXPort?????????
Is it something I am doing wrong????

Okay.
It DOES help to check one of the check boxes asking for the kind of data I am looking for............. Dohhhhh
Well I found it under Microsoft.

Vodafone Internet
Vodafone MMS
Vodafone WAP and
Vodafone WAP CSD

GPRS problem
From another post someone indicated that in the new rom build its a problem with the caller ID program, and that downgrading this will help the issue:
Here is a step by step instruction:
1. Download the older version of caller-id from:
ftp://xda:[email protected]/BlueAngel/CAB_Files/Caller ID/IA_CallerID_1.20_WWE.CAB
and transfer it over to your device. Any directory is OK. I used ActiveSync to put it into the My Documents folder.
2. Remove the file IA_CD-Startup.exe from \Windows\Startup on your device.
3. Rename iacontacts.dll to something else (e.g. old-iacontacts.dll). This file is in the \Windows directory of your device but is hidden. However you can rename it using your PC. Open Windows explorer, and navigate to Mobile Device>My PocketPC>Windows.
4. Rename displayCID.dll to something else (e.g. old-displayCID.dll). Access it via your PC the same as for the previous step.
5. Soft reset
6. Run the CAB file on the device - just tap on it.
7. Soft reset.
That should do it.
Hope that helps someone, I have downgraded to the 1.22 rom which does not have this issue, but I am considering trying to upgrade to 1.40 and try this as a workaround to the gprs not able to reconnect issue, except after a soft reset or flight mode on/off cycle...
Many thanks.
I am off on holiday tomorrow so don't want to do anything that I cannot repare very quickly in case I have no phone while I am away.
I will give this a try on my return.
If anyone else tries this and is succesful please let us know.
Cheers.

GPRS Problems and caller Display
I too have been having problems with GPRS connecting once and then not again until a soft-reset or turning the phone off - on top of which caller display was slow and would often hang. (This is on an Alpine) I have succesfully downgraded the caller-id app and the GPRS problems have completely disappeared - on top of which, the app responds quicker, does not hang at all, and responds quicker on an incoming call. All in all, a result!
One note of caution - I had a password on my machine, and after renaming the files and doing a soft reset (as per instructions above) my Alpine would not restart. I had to to a hard reset! if you have a password on yr machine, disable it before you do the downgrade. The GPRS issue was really my only problem with my XDA, and now I'm a happy bunny.
Im just had to install this. Will see if it will be ok. I'll let you know.
I installed yesterday.
Seems to be working a treat.
EXCELLENT.
Many thanks for all the help.

Just how does QuickGPS work

Hello and thanks in advance for any answers to my questions on QuickGPS.
I have an XDA-Orbit and am running it on Vodafone, not O2. I am also running TomTom 6.x. I find that my GPS acquisition times are not as good as people are reporting. Best case it takes about a minute or so... and worst case, longer than 15 min.
I keep my quickgps files up to date, but just what are in these files? I gather that it gets my approximate location based on which cell tower I am connected to, and then gets satellite positioning info. However, do all cell towers broadcast their location, etc. For example, is using QuickGPS with a vodafone SIM useless because it is looking for an O2 cell tower?
Also, does tomtom make use of quickgps? In my tomtom settings, the option to use quickgpsfix is greyed out. Should I be using quickgpsfix instead of quickgps, or is it basically the same thing.
Thanks again!
N.
Have a look in your windows folder and check out the file size of 'packedephemeris.ee' it should be around 50k. If it's not then as I understand it it's not updating properly. I have a mda compact iii and the default settings give me a file size of about 8k, if I use this TomTom takes about 4-5 mins to get a fix.
After following the instructions in the 'update quickGPS manually' thread and replacing the file I'm getting a fix in about 20 seconds.
However the registry fix doesn't seem to be working at the moment but you can do it manually.
Thanks for the response. I just checked the size of the file in windows and it was 47.7k, updated yesterday. One thing that may be causing this is that I travel quite a lot and often times the last known position of the gps is totally different than where I am when I start up the app. Maybe this is causing the problem.
Just use this file for update. Download it and copy it to your windows folder.
http://service.mio-tech.com/eeservice/packedephemeris.ee
Thanks for the response. How often should I update this file? Daily?
If you update it manually it updates the 'download' and 'valid time' in the quickGPS app so if you have the 'remind me when data expires' I'm guessing it should let you know when you next need to do it.
A slightly better solution :
Replace the following ip's in the register:
Use resco reg edit or any other register editor.
HKLM\SOFTWARE\HTC\QuickGPS\0\0\IP -> htctsvr.htc.com.tw
HKLM\SOFTWARE\HTC\QuickGPS\0\1\IP -> htctsvr.htc.com.tw
HKLM\SOFTWARE\HTC\QuickGPS\1\0\IP -> htctsvr.htc.com.tw
HKLM\SOFTWARE\HTC\QuickGPS\2\0\IP -> htctsvr.htc.com.tw
HKLM\SOFTWARE\HTC\QuickGPS\2\1\IP -> htctsvr.htc.com.tw
Here you go. now just use quickGPS to download the location file.
Just for reference, I did manage to download the file, and replace the existing one. The GPS signal picked up within 15 seconds! This is a huge difference from before.
One thing though... if I update through the quickgps program, my file is indeed about 50k in size, but obviously does not do much or does not contain valid data.
I wonder if the data provided is carrier specific.. Ie, an XDA gets data that will not work on a different carrier than O2.

The ip servers i posted should work. the have been working for over a week now for me. The thing is, if you adjust the ip adresses in the register you have to do a soft reset to make sure the register keeps the setting. if you check your register now you'll see that the default values are back.
How i got them? easy, google on the file P...ee and look for url's with this structure : http://SITENAME/clm/p..ee

Done the check and truely the reg settings did not stick. Corrected and the settings work great after soft-reset
Thanks for this fix. I've now got a 47k packedephemeris file, so that's better than it was. But should I have a QuickGPS option in TomTom? I'm on 6.020 but I can't see any such option...
thanks for this, worked a treat, I was having the sat fix time issues and looking at the packed ephomeris file it was only 3.7k,
I thought the reason that it was taking so long is that I always update it at home but I never turn it one when I depart, most time at a completley different location.
Hi all
First post here.
I know I am resurrecting an old thread... I found it while googling for a fix for my inoperative quickGPS on my MDA Compact III.
This has failed to connect for some weeks now and it definitely affects lock-on speeds.
Red Baron's solution above works for me - i.e. download the file and manually put it in the Windows folder on the device - but it is a bit of a chore.
So I then tried Bonkey's solution and edited the IP addresses as shown - but this doesn't work sadly.
Should I be putting a www in front of the addresses listed?
Or has there been some change to the addresses?
It's a bit of a crappy piece of software, very difficult to find out if any updates or changes are required.
I'm very glad of RedBaron's solution, it is so far the only one on the net that I can find that works!
Thanks for any advice you can give.

Delay in choosing text input

I've got the o2 version of the Artemis, had it for a few weeks now and very happy with it. The only problem I've found is that when the device is restarted it sets the default text input as the on screen keyboard and not Transcriber (which I prefer) Is there any way I can set the default method as Transcriber from start-up?
I would happily choose the transcriber each time but clicking the keyboard icon to choose the input from the menu causes a delay of 20-30 seconds for some reason. Does anyone know why this is?
because the OMAP sucks.
I'm not talkin about slight processor lag here tho, TomTom 6 and everything else runs fine with minimal slow downs. And once the menu has been displayed I'd expect it to be quicker the second or third time which it isn't. Could anyone else running the standard o2 build confirm if their's has any delays? As I suspect its a software issue rather than hardware.
I have the same trouble, although not to the extent that you have. I have the T9 input cab, and the text message input dfaults to the keyboard which I find useless as I can't use my finger to do it. I click on the select input icon and it can take 5-6 seconds before it opens.
bit annoying but I get used to it.
I don't have that delay - I use HappyTapping, and T9 input.
Search for a program called AC IMSelecter on here or on google. It lets you overide default keyboard choice, and has helped solve some problems I've had with non-standard keyboards displaying incorrectly.
I think I found it bundled in a HappyTapping keyboard zip.

I've just installed the SIP Select program as I couldn't find the one you mentioned Squire. Have got to soft reset to see if it works but need to copy the shortcut into my startup folder first. Cheers for the help guys.
EDIT: SIP Select works a treat, cheers for the link to the file.
Those with the problems - have you installed the Microsoft Voice Commander? This is suspected of causing a massive SIP menu delay.
I've got a solution to improve the speed in switching SIP. Just try to export the registry of HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT_CLSID and import it again. And after that you'll feel much better when you switch SIP.
Don't ask me the reason, because I've no idea at all...
I did have it installed but quickly realised I hardly use it so uninstalled it. Perhaps its left some unwanted registry entries? Does anyone know of a program that can remove unnecessary registry entries for WM5?
EDIT: Talking to Leyton about MS Voice Commander btw
Can someone solve this situation - what is needed:
Hard reset.
Take an image using SKTracker
Install MS Voice Command
Uninstall MS Voice Command
Take an image with SKTracker
Compare the images
Whatever is left over will be the problem causing the slow SIP.
Anyone who does this - please post your results!!
(I would but can't afford a hard reset at the moment)

TOMTOM does not need speedy processor, but when you change sip, yes, the speed of processor counts. So just be patient, 5-10 seconds will be ok for you.

3G and wifi balloons missing options

Hey!
So I upgraded to WM6 using Schapps' rom. So far so good, but I am really missing my connect / disconnect options from WM5 in the Today icons at the top of the screen. All they give me now is an option to go to the wireless manager.
How do I restore this much needed functionality? For example, when I launch IE or Opera by 3G / GPRS and then close the browser, I stay connected (with a little timer in the bubble). How come this no longer auto-disconnects? Also there is no option to force a disconnection from within the bubble.
Use shadowmite's tweak tool, this is a reg hack.
http://shadowmite.com/wiki/index.php/HTCustom
Hi, thanks for that, but I've got Schapps' Advanced Configuration tool in his ROM, which appears to closely resemble this. But there is nothing about the wifi balloon, nor is there anything about making 3G / GPRS auto-disconnecting. The "3G and GPRS disconnect and timer" option doesn't seem to work.
Edit: I don't really understand; why are reg hacks even needed to restore functionality that was in the previous version of WM? It seems like things are going backwards!!!

Those functions were unlocked using the exact same reg hack by carriers. They are disabled by default on all ROMs afaik.
Hi, I'll give the tweak tool a go once I get home. However I certainly did not have a countdown timer for 3G / GPRS when I had WM5. Is there no way to have an auto-disconnnect?
Also the tweak tool doesn't mention anything about the wifi balloon?
I know it's bad form to reply to one's own post, but just to crystallise this:
Why has my Wifi and 3G "Connnect / Disconnect" options in the icons at the top of the today screen (on the title bar), been replaced with a link saying, "wireless manager"?
And how do I get them back?
Okay looks like I may have found a solution. Please tell me the below is possible in WM6?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=294987&highlight=flight+mode+bubble
Hi,
maybe this should help you
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=299075&highlight=bubble+fix
- but, I don´t know exactly why - for me it´s not working on Schaps c version - but could be only a problem of the german release.
Let me know if it works for you...
I changed back to Elf´s rom - this is the on that satisfies me most until now, btw. the bubblefix works prfectly on that one.

HSDPA timer.

I've tried searching. Found nothing.
I remember on windows 6.1, when I used to have a 3G or HSDPA connection, clicking on their respective icons would bring up a disconnect button (Which I'm not too worried about) and a timer, showing how long the connection had been active. The timer is what I'm looking for.
Anyone here know of a way to re-enable it via the registry, or any good freeware software which would do the trick?
Really? 110 views and not a single suggestion?
Do you mean like this? (1st Image)
If so then you can enable it via touchflo settings (See 2nd and 3rd images)
Providing you have touchflo settings in there, I'll look in the registry to see what value its changing, if it does change one
I'm running a custom ROM of my own creation. I have removed TouchFlo (As I use a combination of various today screens instead) and only have the "Vibrate the device when tapping the tabs........" option available
Try this:
With a regeditor navigate to
HKLM\ControlPanel\Phone\Flags2
and change its value to 16 (Decimal).. Soft reset
